  2. Is Singapore also part of the AFTA agreement? Will such cars from Malaysia be allowed to be sold in Singapore? Why and why not? Will there be a price advantage? Or Singaporeans prefers Made in Germany supply? https://paultan.org/2019/11/04/g30-bmw-520i-luxury-assembled-in-malaysia-now-exported-to-philippines-priced-at-rm328500-report/ G30 BMW 520i Luxury assembled in Malaysia now exported to Philippines, priced at RM328,500 – report In BMW, Cars, International News, Local News / By Jonathan Lee / 4 November 2019 4:29 pm / 0 comment A year after originally envisioned, BMW Group Malaysia is finally exporting CKD locally-assembled vehicles to the Philippines, as reported by AutoIndustriya.com. During a test drive of the G30 520i Luxury in the archipelago, the publication discovered documentation in the glovebox proving that the car was built in Kulim, Kedah – a fact confirmed by the president of Philippine distributor SMC Asia Car (SMAC), Spencer Yu. The importation of Malaysian-assembled cars leverages the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) agreement, as the resulting lower import duties lead to better pricing. “There is indeed a cost advantage on acquiring vehicles from Malaysia like the BMW 520i Luxury,” said Yu. “Taking into consideration critical factors such as production and shipping costs, we are able to realize marginal savings. SMAC then passes on these savings to the customer allowing us to have the most competitive products in the segment.” Those savings are fairly substantial – while the 520i Luxury will be priced at “around 4.5 million pesos” (RM370,000), BMW’s participation in the upcoming SEA Games in the Philippines has allowed the company to offer limited units of the car at 3.99 million pesos (RM328,500). That’s a whopping one million pesos (RM82,200) less than the diesel-powered 520d. Yu reassured buyers that the cars are built to the same quality standard here as they are in Germany. “Filipinos may expect that BMW vehicles assembled in Malaysia are engineered in true BMW fashion, by a team of experts appointed by our executive office in Germany. This means that our discerning buyers may now purchase the best of BMW with the best value,” he said. The executive added that SMAC was “working towards that goal” of bringing in more models assembled in Malaysia, which include the 1 Series, 3 Series, 6 Series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X1, X3, X4 and X5.

    2019 3rd Generation BMW 1 Series (F40)

TaIk about pushing price up. I still feel kinda like goondu lor, go for the bigger engine which pushed 1 series (F20) price up to nearly 520i level. Pay near 520i price but get low rent interior. Everytime see the full decked out leather in the 3/5 series like so comfortable after staring at my budget shoebox interior.

  8. Hello everyone, I am starting a AMA thread just for discussion purposes.Possibly to help answer some comparison questions between cars I have driven before, from my individual perspective. (Not a show-off thread - as I am not financially strong enough to own a car). A bit of background, I been a seasoned driver, been driving regularly for the past decade. I have never owned a car before, but I am blessed to have the opportunities to drive my friends and relatives' cars on a regular basis, or sometimes. I also took some time off to test drive some sedans recently as I am contemplating on getting one. So far, I have driven the following models regularly before: Kia Cerato Forte SX 1.6L 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6L Toyota Wish AE10 1.8L Toyota Camry Prestige XV40 2.0L BMW 216i Gran Tourer Diesel-powered BMW 316i F30 BMW 520i E60 XL BMW 523i F30 Audi Q5 8R 2.0T 2019 Mazda 6 2.0L Standard 2018 Mazda CX-5 2.0L Premium I have already managed to clock limited miles on the following cars: 2019 Kia Cerato Forte SX Honda Civic 10-Gen 1.6NA Hyundai Avante S 2019 Mazda 3 HB 1.5L Premium Volvo S90 Happy to answer any questions with respect to interior, exterior, performance and feel of these cars. Cheers.

The Camry and Accord are more Executive with more refined engines while the Mazda 6 is a little noisy and geared towards that sporty image. The Teana is just as reliable but i don't like the rubber band effect of CVT gearboxes.

    BMW 520I - Damn Cheap !!!

Just got back from their showroom, asking 148k . . . i think if negotiate till the cow comes home, can get below 145k !!!
  13. hi, my friend has a 520i bought 2 years already. since day 1, the car will vibrate when stop at traffic light in Drive mode. this is of course with the engine still running, idling at traffic lights. can feel the whole car vibrate from the feet and whole seat. every passenger can feel it. It happens the whole day even after warming up. the worst part is that his mechanic at PML says it is normal for this model. they even let my friend test sit the demo car to prove that their demo car has the same vibration. i help my friend search on BMW forums but no one complain of this permanent vibration. only some people complain of intermittent vibrations which goes away after warm up. anyone who drives 520i or has friends who has driven 520i, please comment whether yours got vibrate at idle?

    Jaguar XE

Yes, Sure, I really get a stealing price at 140k nett. Being monitoring for the XE 2.0t for a long time period as being attempted to buy even since the promotion price at 159k, but due to my BMW 520i still perfectly functioning so to stop my gear to go for that in 2018. Just happened to see the ad that event cars go for 140k with 10 unit limited on 2nd March, so quickly booked a shining red XE within a hour as that is my dreaming Jaguar color. Will be getting my car in about 3 weeks, so would like to hear more feedback and comments from fellow brothers here as what I need to be looking for and attention to after owning of this animal.

    Singapore Reckless Drivers part VII

Come on bro. If you're going by actual dyno figures (which themselves are fraught with variation and uncertainty and poor methodology) rather than manufacturer claims, you should know that BMW underrates many of their cars, including the most powerful models. On that basis, the more powerful engines I mentioned will also have higher HP and torque than advertised. The deficit of the 125i should remain about the same. I had an F10 M5 claimed by BMW to have 560hp. Most people I know who ran it on a dyno reported over 600hp. They play this game with many of their cars. Whatever the case may be, comparing "actual" for one model vs "claimed" for another is just unsound. Should go with like vs like, apples to apples, etc. Also, I've never cited the base 135i or any variant of the 30i, since I have no personal experience with them. The cars that I've mentioned are the M140i and the M240i (which are identical in terms of powertrain). The reason I brought those up is because someone mistook this car for one of those in an earlier post. The BMW models that I know intimately through ownership are: the 4 cylinder 520i (complete pig), the M135i, the F10 M5, the E92 M3 and the M140i. The BMW models that I've test driven are too numerous to list but includs the i8, the F90 M5, F80 M3 (and its sibling M4) and the M2 (original, not competition). I can only comment on what I know well.

    520i tune to 528i performance

The price difference between a 520i and 528i is $17k. The sales consult pointed out only 2 differences: 1) 17" vs 18" rims 2) 184hp vs 245hp (same engine, different state of tune) Question is: can the 520i be simply tuned to offer 528i performance. If so, where can this be reliably done?

Who uses night car wash services from HDB carpark

Use before. But you can expect more hairline scratches as time progresses. They use the cloth to again and again throughout the night. You imagine how many cars they clean. I prefer The steam wash. For ceramic coated cars bmw 520i. I hope still scratch free

I got a friend driving a F10 M5 also rebadged to 520i, he said it was drawing too much attention on NSHY and his factory. I thought with side grill it was quite obvious he told me many people actually can't differentiate except for the badge at the back.

    Car scrap & body value

Thanks for replying. Am confuse as previously when i bought i saw the posting said will buy back body at 1500 dollars at least. Then i saw previous someone said the body value of toyota can be 600-2k (for first generation). Why AD's dealers only offer 500 for a BMW 520i XL with 2 months plus to go for $500? Anyone can quote better?
