  1. Road tax is a wealth tax lah... When things were simpler back in my parents generation, all cars are NA, bigger the CC means bigger the HP and bigger the car, the more expensive the car. Commoners like my dad will be buying Cat A b&b cars like 1.5l nissan sunny, 1.5-1.6l toyota corollas, 1.6l mitsibishi Lancer, 1.5L honda civics... The prudent towkays will go one up getting Cat B 2.0-2.5L camry, 2.0-2.5L V6 cefiros, 2.0-2.5L accords The more attas towkays will be rolling around in contis where engines less 6 cyl and less than 3L are unheard of. When technology advances, turbo charging, multi injection, VVTL, engines gets more efficient producing more power for the same size...emission also improve... To the extent that when environmental concerns raises, contis started to pack smaller capacity and more efficient TC engines into their large bodied cars.... Volvos S80 T2, Merc E180, BMW 520i... Then comes the hybrids. All these advances are still manageable for LTA with quick fix like Cat A power cap and hybrid road tax claculations. With BEVs, LTA is still trying to tax the wealth of the car owners who can afford powerful fast BEVs despite no logical reason besides trying to recoup their petro duties and making it more painful for people to own fun cars.
  2. What I notice when i go Merc/BMW/Audi showrroms is that their price on price list is so high but actually there is huge discounts almost all the time. For merc is often in the form of overtrade. So I thought I would share some discounts that I know. Of coz it is updated all the time so maybe the bros here can share what you have heard so it is easier for ppl to have an idea before heading down to the show room. I shall start first: CLA: 173,888, 8k overtrade and 3k service credit 520i business: 242,800, 10k overtrade E-class and S-class got 10k COE discount or high COE rebate at 76k VW Jetta: 118,800
  3. Its the 520i..... Not ready yet for full electric at the moment. Hee 1. The new 5 series is larger, more menacing in looks. Longer. 2. The seats are comfy. Actually super comfy. I had taken it to as far as Perak. And my passengers felt the back seats are comfy. Its kinda slope in, super support for the backsides. And helps induce sleep. Lol. 3. Interior is nice. As usual, the soft touches as expected. Nice panels to go along. Though its more touch screen nowadays. The in-build navigation is nice, easier to use than W213. 4. The pick up is decent. W213 e200 is slightly quicker honestly. But 520i has superb handling and after 140km 150km/hr its still not panicking like w213. slow warmer. Hee 5. Theres no soft touch closing which is a fuah. The doors are heavier than the w213. Sometimes, the passenger could not close completely. Dang. 6. Theres also missing the passenger adjustment from driver for passenger seat. Passenger has to adjust electrically from his side himself which is a dang too as my w213 has this option leh. 7. 520i comes with the base driving assistant. Like parking and back-tracking 50mtrs thingy. HUD. etc plus harmon kardon speakers. 8. A bit overpriced tbh. Coz its a new car model. The disc is little. 9. Overall. Its still a little nice upgrade over the W213 in terms of comfort and driving experience.
  4. Most RWD BMW used 8 Speed ZF Autobox..even the 320/520i.
  5. 520i 352k with another 25k overtrade
  6. The all-new BMW 5 Series has premiered in Singapore, and for the first time will be offered in full-electric i5 form. Pricing starts at S$385,888 with COE for the 520i, while the electric i5 eDrive40 variant starts from S$417,888 with COE. Those are the prices for the base model trim, but both are also available in sportier M Sport spec, with prices going at S$393,888 with COE for the 520i M Sport, and S$428,888 with COE for the i5 eDrive40 M Sport. The M Sport cars get a lower and sportier suspension setup, as well as slightly more aggressive design elements. BMW 520i Launch Edition Finally, there are also a limited run of 20 Launch Edition units for both models (10 of each), with the 520i Launch Edition going for S$392,888 with COE, and the i5 eDrive40 Launch Edition retailing at S$430,888 with COE. The Launch Edition models feature unique 20-inch wheels exclusively finished in Titanium Bronze, which are also applied to the interior and exterior trim as well as the grille
  7. Nice , overall , do you enjoy the car and felt its worth it? thats the most impt 🙂 I think the 520i is at about 350k after all the OT etc right
  8. I dislike the reversion of handles to this as well.. it’s also less practical and can only be opened by gripping from bottom.. perhaps I’m already used to gripping the door handles from the top like a handle bar but it feels a lot more natural to me.. I’ve noticed that the 520i and i5’s ambient lighting is drastically different but not pointed out in any spec sheet as they just simply call it ambient light
  9. Now only have 520i,no more 540i,6 Cyls B58 Engine,

  14. Oh dear....maybe this is how the basic PI 520i would look like without the fancy M-Sport dress? https://www.motor1.com/news/669002/2024-bmw-5-series-base-model/
  15. the official spec sheet is out, looks like only releasing the i5s and 520i/520d on launch https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/attachment/T0416261EN/585427
  16. Countryman cooper S 0 to 100km/h is 7sec+. Like many other German 2.0L turbo. I drove my friend one once, pick up very similar to my XT. It is the engine as the older BMW X3 Sdrive, 320i or 520i.
  17. Only a real buyer will know the difference. 44k or more for 318mspt vs 320mspt , using same engine etc. (f series using diff engine) , most will go for 520i instead. 520i Exe same price range as 320i msport. Not the same for E180 vs E200 tho, as different engine.

  19. Hi, great to see so much discussions on this tire! I actually read thru all the 35 pages in 3hours! A question to all. My 530i comes stock with Assy5 20in stagger. Compared with my previous 520i which came with stock 18in Cinturato, i find that Assy5 actually feels MORE slippery in the wet than Cinturato. And when i drive down my house basement carpark bend, when i brake to turn, sometimes it actually slide like power slide…scary. This doesn’t happen in the Cinturato. Is there any issue with my tires since i keep reading Assy5 has excellent wet grip….so I’m quite perplexed. Also is there any recommendations for a good tire 20in (RFT would be bonus) that feels great in wet cornering driving? Actually just excellent in the wet? TIA!
  20. List of PHV cars that I took before: - Jaguar XF/XJF [the diesel one] - JustGrab - E250 - JustGrab - 520i - JustGrab - 535i - JustGrab - Impreza [manual, suspect stage 2 mod] - JustGrab These rides were taken when JustGrab was launch, think 5 yrs ago?
  21. Just got back from their showroom, asking 148k . . . i think if negotiate till the cow comes home, can get below 145k !!!
  22. hi, my friend has a 520i bought 2 years already. since day 1, the car will vibrate when stop at traffic light in Drive mode. this is of course with the engine still running, idling at traffic lights. can feel the whole car vibrate from the feet and whole seat. every passenger can feel it. It happens the whole day even after warming up. the worst part is that his mechanic at PML says it is normal for this model. they even let my friend test sit the demo car to prove that their demo car has the same vibration. i help my friend search on BMW forums but no one complain of this permanent vibration. only some people complain of intermittent vibrations which goes away after warm up. anyone who drives 520i or has friends who has driven 520i, please comment whether yours got vibrate at idle?
  23. Nice single digit E plate on a 520i (very basic spec tho, didnt even have solar film on the windows). Other 2 are my neighbours hahahaha. Can see my gti in the background hehehe. Merc has a rather perculiar model badge 😅
