The next-generation Volkswagen Beetle concept will be introduced at the Los Angeles auto show in November, according to Autocar. Citing unidentified sources, the magazine claims the car will get a renewed look, and should feature more inspired engine choices as it is prepped for a 2011 market release. A 2.0-liter engine producing 210 bhp (213 PS, 157 kW) could be seen on the car, more powerful than any engine currently sold on the vehicle. Also expected are 1.4-liter 160 bhp (162 PS, 119 kW) and 1.2-liter 105 bhp (106 PS, 78 kW) petrol engines. Diesel offerings could include 2.0-liter 140 bhp (142 PS, 104 kW) and 1.6-liter 105 bhp (106 PS, 78 kW) units. Customers in the US might get the chance to purchase the car with a five-cylinder 2.5-liter model cranking out 170 bhp (172 PS, 127 kW). The company is also toying with the idea of producing a hybrid version of the car. Autocar says the vehicle will have a wider stance and longer wheelbase as it will be produced at the same plant, and on the same architecture, as the VW Jetta. The Beetle is expected to get a MacPherson strut front, torsion beam rear suspension, though a multi-link rear is also possible. Look for exterior changes to be inspired by the 2005 Volkswagen Ragster concept. -

Yearly depreciation of close to $10k. Is this an overpriced old beetle? http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-nxk8sG3-1000.html If one is really keen to own an old piece of beetle, he could just have bought a much cheaper beetle and spend the money on restoration. It still won't add up to $40k. What do you think?

Am thinking of getting the Beetle 1.6A as I've always liked the shape of the original, but need a modern car with auto trans. I'm aware that its a bit underpowered, but hope that it has the typical German car build (ie, robust and quality). Any New Beetle owners here can advise on the maintenance cost/ reliability of this car ? And the service at the agent ? Noticed that the car OMV is only around $20K, but the basic car is really very basic - so the agent markup is quite high - does this translate to better service ?

Hi there! I'm abt the take that huge step to get my first car - with help from daddy of cos. And as a gal, i really like the Beetle (always been my dream car), from a girly fashion point of view of cos. :oP With the recent drop in COEs - i've been quoted $91,888 - less $1,500 if i take more than 50% financing (which is likely), and less 3 months instalments free (max $2500). Is this price ok? would it be more worth looking out for a 2nd hand? How abt servicing? Is the Beetle a sturdy car? is it reputed to break down often? i'm a A to B person, and i'll take good car of it, i.e. wont thrash it abt. Parts may be expensive to find and replace? thanks for advice, ppl.. kimmy

Hi all, A colleague is very keen to do HUPER or VKool on her beetle. When i enquired abt this fr a workshop that installed huper on my car, the boss says that he's not willing to do, as it is too difficult to fit the large and curved windscreen. Is this true? He also claims that no one in market is really confident of doing it well. Anyone has done it before?
