  1. From TST. Will our F-35s be affected? Pentagon stops F-35 deliveries after discovery of engine part made in China The Pentagon has stopped delivery of F-35 fighter jets after the aircraft’s maker, Lockheed Martin, found a part used in the jet’s engine was made in China, the Defense Department and company confirmed Wednesday. The Defense Contract Management Agency on Aug. 19 notified the F-35 Joint Program Office that an alloy used in magnets in the F-35’s turbomachine pumps was produced in China, office spokesperson Russell Goemaere said in a statement to The Hill. The program office “temporarily paused the acceptance of new F-35 aircraft to ensure the F-35 program’s compliance” with defense regulations “pertaining to specialty metals,” Goemaere said. Though Lockheed makes the aircraft, Honeywell produces the turbomachine. In late August, Honeywell was notified by one of their third-tier suppliers for the turbomachine that they were using alloy sourced from China which was then magnetized in the United States, according to a statement from Lockheed. “Out of abundance of caution, there is a temporary pause on deliveries,” the statement said, noting that the magnet does not provide any visibility or access to sensitive program information and there are no safety issues for F-35s currently in use. US recovers more than $30M in cryptocurrency from North Korean hackersOn The Money — Inflation losing ground to other midterm issues The F-35 Joint Program Office also confirmed the part does not affect flight operations of the fifth-generation fighter jets already in service. “We have confirmed that the magnet does not transmit information or harm the integrity of the aircraft and there are no performance, quality, safety, or security risks associated with this issue and flight operations for the F-35 in-service fleet will continue as normal,” Goemaere said. Both the Pentagon and Lockheed said an alternative source for the alloy will be used in future turbomachines. https://thehill.com/policy/defense/3632630-pentagon-stops-f-35-deliveries-after-discovery-of-engine-part-made-in-china/

  5. This appears to be the next Land Rover Discovery, hews closely to the design of the Discovery Vision Concept of 2014. In fact, you can match up almost every detail on this prototype to the concept. The SUV retains the subtle bulge that starts above the C-pillar as a tribute to the old Discovery, LR3 and LR4. The character line running from the fender vent to the edge of the taillight, the semi-floating roof design and the shape of the lights and front grille vents are all carried over from the concept as well. Outside of small proportional changes, this Discovery is a dead-ringer for its show-car predecessor. Clearly, the days of tall, upright, and boxy are numbered at Land Rover. Our spy photographer also expects this new Discovery to trade its current body-on-frame chassis for an aluminum unibody. This wouldn't be surprising as the Discovery Sport also uses an unibody chassis with a mix of aluminum and high-strength steel. Expect the future Discovery to make its debut at the end of this year or sometime in 2017 with a supercharged gasoline 3.0-liter V6 and possibly a diesel 3.0-liter V6. Rumors suggest that the current supercharged V6 may be replaced by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six from Ford, and a plug-in hybrid may also become an option somewhere down the line.

  8. Any bros watched this just now? It was a American show of 4 men competing for the title of One Man Army based on speed, strength and intelligence. Host was a ex-SF also giving running commentary also. The four men comprised two ex-Recon Marines, a ex-SEAL Team Six operator and an Argentinian non-military MMA (mixed-martial arts) specialist and the whole idea of the show was that one by one would be eliminated through challenges until a sole winner was left standing in the end to receive a US$10k prize. One ex-Recon Marine was a mature and steady beefy dude aged 41 while the other was a cocky super fit 26 yo just returning from Iraq. The ex-SEAL Team Six anti-terrorist expert was a grand old 49 yo oldie but still looked trim and deadly. The last guy who was Argentinian spoke perfect English and was the odd ball because he had had no military background though from footages he seemed very good in MMA. Interesting plus entertaining typical American show though some of you bros especially MO might sneered at it and brush it aside
  9. Any bros following this series? Have been following it since season 1 and really to these fellows from Red Jacket. They have been converting normal small arms to all sorts of deadly configurations as accordance to customers from average Joes to private security firms. Not sure if they have gotten permission or any permit from their state or federal agencies (should have right?) to do that because they have for example converted semi-auto firing (by law) say AR15s or even Browning 50-cal HMGs to full auto modes. Which means any psycho customers can suka suka train his Browning 50-cal HMG on his neighbours to unleash hell... [sweatdrop] For a strictly gun control state like ours, it is really an eye-opener that their Constitution allow them to own guns And I thought the last time they fired a civil war-era cannon was the biggest calibre weapon they had gotten their hands on until last night when these fellas repaired a WWII-era M1 57mm AT gun and fired it. They even re-furbished the rounds themselves by filling up empty fired shell casings with explosive propellant, installed primers and topped them off with projectiles. Below is a shot of these guys firing the 57mm gun: How about that?
  10. Body stuffed in trolley bag found off Sentosa http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...203607-865.html A decomposed male body was found in a luggage trolley bag in the waters off a construction site at Resorts World Sentosa on Saturday morning. The bag was found by two foreign workers and brought ashore. According to Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News, the male body had been placed inside a luggage bag and dumped at sea. According to media reports, police said the body was clothed but had no identification. The police were informed at about 8.40am, and the man was pronounced dead by paramedics at 9.15 am. The man is believed to have been dead for two to three days. The body was bloated and features were not discernible. RWS is building two hotels, a spa and maritime museum at the construction site, which is situated behind Underwater World. The police are investigating the case. Separately, a 36-year-old Chinese national was also found dead with a bloodied face in Marina Boulevard on Thursday morning. Police said a passerby alerted them at about 6 am of the body, which was lying face-up on a bench along a walkway at The Promontory@Marina Bay, reported local daily MyPaper. The man, who was pronounced dead at 6.30 am, suffered a laceration to the backof his head, said the police. They have classified the case as an unnatural death. There is no indication the death is gang-related and no weapons were found at the scene. It is believed that the man's wallet, with cash intact, was found. His haversack was also found near the body. 12. 14 years in the making and i don't even know such thing exist! should i say wow? "Will the Large Hadron Collider save the world, or destroy it? As the atom-smasher at Europe's CERN research center is readied for its official startup on Wednesday, researchers might wish that the general public was captivated by the quest for the Higgs boson, the search for supersymmetric particles and even the evidence for extra dimensions. But if the feedback so far is any guide, the real headline-grabber is the claim that the world's most powerful particle-smasher could create microscopic black holes that some fear would gobble up the planet...." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24556999/
