In the sixites, when the Miura was introduced, he named the car after a famous bull's race, and this practice became a tradition for the House of the Bull. Honouring this tradition, the Management of Automobili Lamborghini have decided to baptize their latest model with the name of a fighting bulls breed: the Gallardo (pron.: ga:y
  9. Friday May 11, 6:17 AM Lamborghini launches lightened version of Gallardo SINGAPORE: Italian car maker Lamborghini has just launched its newest model - the Gallardo Superleggera. The Superleggera which means Superlight, is 100kg lighter than the regular Gallardo. This latest car, revealed on Thursday at a launch in Singapore, boasts 530 horsepower and is made mostly of lightweight carbon-fibre parts. And this allows the driver to reach high speeds in a shorter time, while using less fuel. The cost? A cool S$918,000, inclusive of COE. In the super-car ladder, the Superleggera is said to be close to the Murcielago flagship. Lamborghini says it will also soon launch a new range of its Murcielago and it would be called, the Murcielago Roadster. - CNA/yy

  12. Reiter Engineering presented a 'street legal' version of their new Lamborghini Gallardo GT3R racer at the Bologna Motor Show. "The Gallardo GT3R ('R' is for race) is immediately identifiable by a huge new rear wing, jutting front lip spoiler, additional cut-out air intakes (including ones slashed across a new engine cover, and large new exits - to allow improved cooling for the two radiators - which have been sliced out in front of the front wheels), new larger exhausts, tow hooks, an even lower suspension (it has a ride height of just 40mm), and huge, bulging 11x18-inch OZ racing alloy wheels. The Gallardo GT3R - fitted with a racing sequential gearbox - will offer 500bhp at 7,800rpm and 510Nm of torque at 4,500rpm." Check out the exhaust.

  17. Ok ok, I know what you're all thinking: He's already beaten a Zonda, why go for the small fry? Well, the difference I must say, is that this guy looked like he was really trying... So I'm off to work, again minding my own business, when this yellow (what is it with yellow ubercars and their penchant for 'death by Focus' anyway?) pulls up one car length behind. The baby Lambo looks tuat and purposeful, having clearly benefitted from Audi's gift of athletic surfacing and spot-on proportions. Some steady driving on my part sees the Gallardo lose five car lengths, and this is where he tries to take me on the left. With a braaap-braap from the twin exhausts, he pulls ahead, but I'm not intimidated. No cut-priced Italian job's going to embarass the Focus. With a mighty sweep, I move past him, and when we part company he's at least ten lengths behind. Sigh... these guys just don't learn... Oh, did I mention that all this ocurred in peak hour bumper-to-bumper traffic?
