  2. A total redesign of the compact SUV from Daihatsu / Toyota stable. 3. Hi bro & sis, Anyone driving a toyota rush 1.5 (a)? How's the car? Tot of changing my chevy aveo 1.4 (a)...
  4. This new sexy compact SUV reclaim the chic look the new Rav4 lost over its predecessor. http://www.toyota.co.jp/en/news/06/0117.html This car is developed by Daihatsu and OEMed to Toyota. But since Toyota own Daihatsu...no diff. Daihatsu called it Daihatsu Be-go "CX" and Toyota call it Toyota Rush "G" Both shares similar specs, engine, come with RWD or 4WD. I think only either model will arrive at our shores. I suspect we may just get Daihatsu just like the Siron. If BM bring this Toyota in, it will certainly be a best seller here. This is a car that is suitable for those who want the fun and style factor of SUV without the high road tax, high Fuel consumption of the bigger machines like CRV, Rav4, Tucson etc.
  5. SINGAPORE: As of Monday afternoon, Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has received some 960 applications to get cash rebates from their Certificates of Entitlement (COE) and the Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF). But car dealers have said that they are not expecting a rush of owners to give up their cars for cash. Jackson Lee, managing director of Jia Leong Trading, said: "Some of them might give up because of petrol... inflation... some of them want to be more economical (and) give up the car, but I think (the number is small)." "For the first kind of people, whose vehicle is fully paid (up), this would serve as an advantage to them because they can exchange their PARF paper for full cash with LTA," said Jerry Ong, Manager of Auto Inn. "But for people with outstanding loans, it won't make much of a difference because dealers like us, we've got to come up with the money to fully settle their cars for them." In Singapore, a car's PARF value is the amount credited to motorists who scrap their cars before its 10th year. A COE is the pre-requisite before anyone can buy a car, awarded through a bidding system. As of Monday, car owners have the option to exchange their COE and PARF rebates for cash. The move, announced in March, is aimed at reducing the car population and have Singaporeans turn to public transport. Dealers have said it is still too early to say what car owners will do, as opinions differ among individuals. Phoebe Lim, a car owner, said: "I feel very handicapped without a car, (therefore) whether with or without the rebate, I will still drive. Since I got my licence five years back I've never taken public transport, so no (I wouldn't exchange my car for cash)." "If the public transport is good enough, yes I think I would," said another car owner, Andrew Ong. "I balance the two together, I value the cash rebate, I can have a saving, I can have money in my pocket, so why not?" But whether more people will give up their cars for cash in the days ahead remains to be seen. - CNA/yb

  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUCm4Dmf-VI And so while otw to our department lunch this afternoon, @Kobayashigt and myself encountered this Mercedes Driver SKP1620P. This was along Thomson Road/Moulmein Road (outside Velocity). We have no idea where he came out from as the lane beside us was a mandatory right turn lane.
  11. Anyone here watched the movie Rush? How did you guys find it? I thought it was great, for a guy who wasnt born in that era, nice to see cars and a little bit of their lifestyle and the well know rivalry between the two drivers. Though I feel that the focus was more on James Hunt more than Lauda?
  12. Singapore's SingTel has developed an application to rival the voice-activated Siri on the iPhone 4S that is sure to go down well in the island state -- because it can understand "Singlish". When Apple unveiled its latest handset earlier this month most of the talk was about Siri, which can give directions or even advice to users simply by asking a question into the speaker. However, since the new phone went on sale there have been numerous reports of Siri either responding with a completely irrelevant answer or simply saying it does not understand. YouTube videos of Siri misinterpreting the heavily accented words of iPhone 4S users in Japan -- the first Asian country to get the device on October 14 -- have been widely circulated on the Internet. But Singapore Telecom (SingTel) says its new app, DeF!ND, will help Singaporeans who use "Singlish" -- a localised form of English with words borrowed from Asian languages -- avoid such problems. SingTel said DeF!ND is a localised Siri-like application that is able to decipher uniquely Singaporean accents, names and locations. It made its public debut at the stroke of midnight Thursday, when SingTel Singapore chief executive Allen Lew gave it an instruction in a decidedly local accent as he launched the iPhone 4S in the city-state. "We have a voice application capability in DeF!ND that is unique because it understands the local language... which the voice recognition engine within an international device like Apple doesn't quite have," Lew said after the launch. "When we tried to test different voice recognition systems including... Siri, we found that the Singaporean accent is pretty unique and the common international voice recognition systems don't quite pick up the nuance of how we speak," Lew added. "And of course our street names and our food names are very local so we developed and trained this new system to allow it to recognise it better." DeF!ND will be available for free on the Android platform and Apple's iTunes "soon," a Singtel spokesman told AFP.
  13. I watched the movie at Cathay. Totally rocks man. one of the best films this year. A must watch for petrol head. Though I follow F1, the excitement of present day F1 is nowhere near that of the 70s and 80s. I have great admiration for Niki lauda. I wouldn't have survived a metal rod entering my throat! Spoiler alert. Overall. I give it 9 out of 10. Might just knock Pacific rim out of my favorite movie of the year. But hard to compare also la. One is on true story. the other is robot fantasy
  14. Hi, I need to contact the owner of this Toyota rush SGT8409. If you are the owner or know the owner of this car, pls ask him to contact me. [email protected] or PM me. Thanks.
  15. Hi guys, if u r in e Rush/Terios forum, kindly help post this msg there cos I wanna clarify with whoever I encounter today. I was driving along Thomson Rd just now and came to a stop @ traffic junction between Balestier Rd n Thomson Rd, in front of Thomson Medical Center. I was on e 2nd lane from e left, waiting for e traffic light to turn green. A white Rush/Terios with loud music on was on e 3rd lane just beside my car on e right. From what I see, there are 5 lanes @ e junction and which 2 lanes on e right is turning right lane, or can say 1 can turn or straight. And if u drive straight, there r 4 lanes for e cars to move into, so technically, if I'm on e 2nd lane, I should be driving into 2nd lane afterwards when light go green, right? Furthermore, extreme left lane has bus lane markings on e floor and when I drive straight, I'm still following e bus lane markings. I just don't understand why e Rush/Terios driver horn n flashes @ me... After that, I wanted to turn left up to PIE, so I signal left. I check all mirrors on e left n no sign of any car or bus, so I filter left into lane 1 on e left. Suddenly, this Rush/Terios driver horn n flashes @ me from e back again. Then I realise he's behind my car which his car wasn't there in e first place. I'm sorry if my driving was slow and hinder ya speeding to somewhere. Also, apologise as I'm driving a slow vehicle... Btw, I'm driving e SX4 just now...

  22. Hope the driver is reading this. I was behind you at the car wash just now. You left the station at 7.30pm. It was bold of you to drive off without paying $3 for the car wash(if u didn't buy coupons). Just to let you know that there are video cameras installed at the vicinity and your car plate number got recorded down. I would urge you to go back and settle the payment privately, rather than wait for the police to knock on your door for $3. cheers...
  23. PR hopefuls queueing overnight More foreigners are applying for PR status for fear of losing their jobs during recession By Cassandra Chew A snaking queue formed outside the ICA building even before 8am on Jan 24. These people stood in line overnight just to get a queue number to have their PR applications processed. -- PHOTO: CAROLINE CHIA Snaking lines starting in the wee hours outside the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) are now a common sight as more foreigners clamour for permanent residency here. From as early as 11pm the night before, they start queueing at the entrance of Lavender MRT station. Hailing from countries like India, China, the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar, most are desperately vying for a spot in the permanent resident (PR) application processing queue. By 3am on Jan 24, at least 10 individuals were already gathered there. They laid out newspapers to lie on and sipped coffee from a nearby 24-hour coffee shop to stay awake. Several came with company so their friends could hold their spot while they took toilet breaks. By 5.30am, the informal queue had swelled to about 60 people. As if in a group march, they collectively crossed the street from the MRT station to the official ICA queue post, which had just opened, in an orderly fashion. By 8am, the line had snaked around ICA's Kallang Road building, with over 220 people in it. A random poll of 20 people in the queue showed that 15 were there to apply for PR. Others were there for visa matters, like the renewal of long-term visit passes. When ICA's doors opened at 8am, the PR hopefuls rushed into the building, scurrying into lifts or rushing up four flights of escalators to the fifth floor where the PR Services Centre is located. Each time The Sunday Times visited on Jan 2, Jan 7 and Jan 24, all queue tickets for PR applicants were snapped up within 15 minutes. Newspaper vendor Ye Yibin, 69, who has been manning a stall by the MRT station for five years, said the lines started growing longer about a year ago but have surged since last November. 'Before, there would be a few people at 6am, but now the lines are much longer. Many of them gather from 2am and use my stools,' she said. Labour watchers say one reason for the desperation of these PR applicants is the recession. Foreigners who fear for their jobs are making a beeline to apply for PR so they can remain here in case they get axed. Employment pass, S-pass and work permit holders can remain in Singapore for between seven and 14 days if they lose their jobs. Personalised employment pass holders can remain unemployed here for up to six months, while PRs can remain here until their five-year re-entry permit expires. Nanyang Technological University economics professor Choy Keen Meng said: 'The rush makes sense because employment pass holders are at high risk of retrenchment during a recession. If they want to stick around, having a PR would mean they won't be repatriated.' Most of those standing in line overnight know that PR applicants have the option of using ICA's e-appointment system to secure a spot in the processing queue, but they said the waiting time for e-appointments is too long. A 44-year-old exhibitions manager, who would give his name only as Alan, had been waiting in line since 12.30am on Jan 7. The Singaporean said he visited ICA's e-appointment website after he failed to obtain a queue ticket on Jan 6, but found that the next available appointment was on March 10. He was there to submit the PR application of his Vietnamese wife of nine years. Permanent residency would allow her to work and supplement their household income. A three-month wait would mean three months of income lost. This was also why China national Lin Wenhai, 33, arrived at 11pm the day before to queue for his ticket. 'Having PR would give me a sense of security here, and would also enable me to bring my parents, wife and daughter in Fujian over,' said the factory worker who has been here for five years. Mr Lin, like many others in line, left his family in search of a better future here, and hopes to be reunited with them soon. In response to queries from The Sunday Times, ICA would only say that while there is no set limit to the number of queue tickets given out daily to PR applicants, limited resources mean it can only process a certain number of applications on any given day. This is why it places a limit on the number of applications it accepts each day. The ICA spokesman added that the success of PR applications is not based on the timing of their submission, but that the applications are considered on individual merit. As of last October, Singapore has 478,200 PRs. Since the e-appointment system's launch in March last year, ICA officers have periodically used tablet PCs to assist those in the queues with the online booking process. 'PR applicants are strongly encouraged to make use of the e-appointment system to book an available date that best suits their schedule and which assures minimal waiting time,' he said.
