  1. It will be available in both Liftback and estate version, while the next generation Passat will be available solely in estate form. For me, I will gladly take this estate variant, preferably in Scout trim (with >270 horsepower, 4x4 drive train, raised height,etc.). This heavily camouflaged prototype was caught testing with Czech registration plates without fake body panels or cladding. The proportions seem largely unchanged with the only notable difference probably being the slightly more sloped roofline. Underneath the skin, the architecture underpinning the new Superb will be an evolution of the MQB platform used by the current model. The production of the new Superb should begin next year at Volkswagen’s plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. In local context, that means end 2024 will be the earliest it will hit our shore.
  2. Dedicated F1 fans here might know there's a Netflix series based on it called "Drive to Survive". I haven't watched a full episode of it — since the current 2021 season rivalry between Verstappen and Hamilton is more than enough drama for me — but I'm aware of its great production quality. If you're into that kind of stuff, I highly recommend this free series on Porsche's official YouTube channel called "Michael Fassbender: Road to Le Mans": It's based on Pro-Am driver Michael Fassbender's journey through the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), in his quest to eventually compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). If you find his name familiar, that's probably because he has starred in the movies you've watched, most notably as Magneto in the X-Men series: Maybe he can make use of his mental powers to force opponents off the track to secure his wins? The 3rd season just started this month, and each episode averages about 20 minutes. The 1st season had 6 episodes and the 2nd season expanded it to 9, but you can easily binge the whole thing over a weekend, which I highly recommend if you want to understand the full context behind his struggles. To watch them all, just click on the red bolded text within this paragraph for each respective season's playlist. As mentioned, this whole series is entirely FREE, so don't say I never jio you all when I got lobang ah! In the meantime, enjoy the first episode of this latest season:
  3. 2015 Skoda Suberb driven: almost as comfortable as a Rolls-Royce Previous Skoda Superbs haven't lived up to the immodest name, but the latest version is much more impressive The latest Superb has looks inspired by the sleek Vision C concept that Skoda showed at the 2014 Geneva motor show Credit: Uli Sonntag/Uli_Sonntag 30 April 2015 • 9:15pm Andrew EnglishMotoring Correspondent, Telegraph Cars Get in touch Of course it’s a ridiculous name. I’m thinking of changing mine to Andrew the Magnificent. And giving a car the name Superb was probably a monstrous act of self aggrandisement even back in the 1930s when Skoda first used it, despite the Czech firm having a considerable reputation as a maker of fine motors back then. More recently we have seen the fall of Skoda during the communist era, followed by its inexorable rise under Volkswagen ownership. Only bad comics joke about Skodas these days - they are no longer cheap and cheerful flivvers. But the company needs to be more than just a budget VW to survive, and so far it’s done well in gaming VW’s parts to build interesting vehicles such as the Yeti and Roomster, even if there’s been a suspicion of late that the ride and handling department have fallen asleep on the job. The outgoing Superb, launched in 2008, was interesting, too, but not in a good way. It wasn’t really aimed at Europe, where big, non-premium cars struggle against the German hegemony (Ford Granada, Vauxhall Carlton RIP). No, this was a car for Eastern Europe, Russia and China, which is its biggest market. It stood out only by having a boot that could be opened like a saloon car’s or a hatchback’s; Skoda narrowly beat BMW to market with this feature, but both car makers have since dropped the idea. František Drábek, project leader on the new Superb, admits it was too heavy and expensive and no one really understood it. “I caught a Superb taxi in Shanghai recently,” he said. “Even that driver didn’t know what the saloon/hatch boot was for.” It also made the car look really ugly, which is perhaps why 61 per cent of the modest UK Superb sales (5,900 last year) were of the handsome estate version which, like the old Rover 75 Tourer, looked like a lot of car for the money. The 2015 Skoda Superb uses a stretched version of the platform that underpins the VW Passat Credit: Uli_Sonntag But a year after the launch of the last Superb, VW introduced its common platform/parts/design/production system known as MQB, which underpins everything from from the Polo to the Touareg. Drábek sheds an interesting light on the conception of this system where Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat sat down to hammer out what they each wanted out of it. “We needed value for money,” he said. “We can’t ask Audi prices so we are always trying to keep the costs of the system down.” And that’s exactly what Skoda got, along with goodies such as a new entertainment system, radar- and camera-based safety technology and DAB radio, to go with the better proportioned and lighter chassis incorporating sophisticated multilink independent rear suspension. Underneath, the new Superb is effectively a stretched VW Passat. While on top it borrows heavily from the rather lovely Vision C concept, which Skoda unveiled at last year’s Geneva motor show. What driveway wouldn’t look a little better for one of these parked on it? It might be a hatchback rather than a saloon, but frankly the new Superb makes the efforts of most premium German rivals look rather blousy and ham fisted. Inside, meanwhile, it’s bigger than my living room. I sat behind a six-foot two-inch driver with six inches of knee room to spare and enough headroom to accommodate a top hat. It’s also as wide as three adults can be and the boot is so big you could have a game of cricket on the retractable cover. The hatch opens automatically and has one of those kick-sensing opening systems, which is more problematic in use than it should be. Simply Clever is Skoda’s slogan for the plethora of knick knacks that accompany its cars: umbrellas in the doors, ice scrapers in the fuel-filler and so on. The latest such feature is a gripping device in the cupholder that’s there so you can undo a screw-top bottle one handed, although it doesn’t work that well. Drábek admits it’s getting more difficult to come up with these gimmicks and said that in future “Simply Clever is likely to be in the multi-media systems.” Every new Superb is available with the whole gamut of Volkswagen safety systems, while further up the five-model range you find adaptive cruise control and dual-zone climate control. The top model is the fully loaded Laurin & Klement, which comes with system to help you deal with parking, blind spots and staying in lane on the motorway, as well as a heated windscreen and a Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system which lets you alter the steering, throttle sensitivity and suspension between Comfort, Normal and Sport settings. Prices start at £18,640, but the Superb Estate will carry a £1,200 premium when it arrives in September, and the 2.0-litre diesel SE L Executive hatch that's expected to be the best seller costs £25,065. MQB cars tend to exhibit similar driving characteristics, most good, and the Superb is no exception. Noise is well damped, even if the Superb isn’t as uncannily quiet as the latest Passat, while the steering is direct, with well judged weighting in most versions; only the 4x4 model disappoints in this regard. The VW Group’s 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine is a really smooth unit, not at all out of breath driving this big car. Similarly, the 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel feels gutsy and is generally refined, although it gets a bit gruff at large throttle openings at low revs, and you feel some fizz through the throttle pedal. As for the 187bhp version of this engine, it certainly has some go, but the combustion vibration is stronger and so is the noise. What really strikes you about the Superb, though (apart from its enormous interior), is the quality of the ride. It’s not quite Rolls-Royce smooth, but is damn close with only a slight nibbly quality over ripples betraying its mass-market nature. I can’t think of a single rival that could ride so comfortably over the truck-damaged autostrada found on the launch route. True, there’s a tad too much wallow through a series of corners when you put the DCC-equipped car in Comfort, but Normal sorts it out, and there’s virtually no penalty to pay for the Superb’s cosseting nature in terms of pitch and squat. This probably isn’t a car you’d throw through the bends, but if you do, it’s secure, with well-judged damping control and just a bit of lift off tightening of the line for those who like such traits. Fun? Not really, but dignified and damn comfy. The new Superb isn’t going to steal many sales from BMW or Mercedes, but that’s only because of the badge on the nose. It’s a good looking alternative and the residuals are looking good, making it a lot less risky than most non-premium big cars. THE FACTS Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI 150 SE L Executive Tested: 1,968cc diesel engine, six-speed manual gearbox (optional six-speed twin-clutch automatic), front-wheel drive Price/on sale: £18,640-£34,505/June (first deliveries September) Power/torque: 148bhp @ 3,500rpm/250lb ft @ 1,750rpm Top speed: 135mph Acceleration: 0-62mph in 8.9sec Fuel economy: 58.9mpg/68.9mpg (EU Urban/Combined) CO2 emissions: 108g/km VED band: B (£0 for first year, £20 thereafter) Verdict: A great looking family car with loads of space and a terrific ride. Estate version is likely to be more popular, but the hatch isn’t the pariah it was. A great alternative to premium German rivals Telegraph rating: Four out of five stars A handsome looking car that probably feels solid and more competitively priced than it's VW brethren. Pity that Skoda is no longer on sale in Singapore. Probably give Camry and Accord a good run for their money.

  7. Hi all, After 7 years and 250,000km later of driving my beloved and wonderful Skoda Superb I. I am sad to say that I will be retiring my silver bullet soon. I remember that I bought the car purely to usher in the birth of my daughter. We have many shared, loving memory with our "Skody"(everyone in the family calls her that.) I will be dekitting - 1. Tyres - less than 1000 km tyres - FALKEN 18" with RIMS or without. 2. RIMS - BSS RIMs make me an offer - but need to be replaced with wheels... 3. Tools - Reserved for Koolaba. 4. Spare tyres - must be replaced with another spare tyre. I will be moving to a SUV - Kia Sorento Diesel 2.2L CRDi 196hp/436NM torque (if Skoda had a bigger SUV, I would have migrated to it) but alas cant wait. - thanks to Koolaba for the poison, he got me into a Skoda too and never regretted. So ping me if there is anything you might want from the car.
  8. Hi, question to you Gurus in here. Looking to create a detailed maintenance schedule for my superb. I am not looking at when to send to car for servicing but what needs to be looked at each service. I don't completely trust the "outside" workshops. I have heard diffrent things from different workshop when I enquired about my coming 60K service. Not so much that they add "extra" services that are not required but more afraid that they leave something out that will detrimental to car. Thanks Lamy
  9. saw a few 2010/2011 superb on sgcarmart, any thing to look out for? heard about the gearbox problem anything else? thanks in advance
  10. Thank my lucky stars that I sent my car for repairs today, and managed to flag down a Superb taxi today. Best iof all, its a manual. The pick up and low end torque is SUPERB The ride comfort is SUPERB The interor space is SUPERB The rear leg room is SUPERB ...more like stretch limosine, anytime more spacious than the latest Merc E220CDi taxis The driver accelerated within 2500rpm range and I could already feel the surge. When it trabvelled at 90km/h on a 50km/h street, I did not even realise it. No feel at all. Accelerating up the Benjamin Sheares bridge was peanuts and accomplished with ease. It had real leather seats, unlike the Merc E220CDi which came in synthetric leather. The engine was SUPERBly quiet even when the turbo was actuvated. It's a real shame that this diesel Superb 2.5 turbo cartries an annual diesel tax of S$6,300. Wonder if the distributor will consdier bring this in to be registered as private car? Within $70K range? I don't mind. Overall commments - Mercedes Benz E200CDi Skoda Superb 2.5 Diesel Turbo
  11. Greetings. My Skoda Superb 1.8Turbo petrol engine manufactured in 2007 has the following problems: The hose in the picture was broken but do not know what part it is to tell the stockist. In addition, the exhaust manifold was so red in the second picture, I wonder whether anything wrong with that. I would appreciate it very much if you could send me a diagram showing the parts and parts number of the engine bay if you have access to it, so that I can inform my stockist of the part to order, and also shed some light to my exhaust manifold problem. Many thanks, KK
  12. Was at the VW showroom yesterday and walked around but nothing really excited me. The new Jetta was ok, inside wise with all the dashboard systems and all, its the same as our Skodas. Than I popped into the Skoda showroom in Leng Kee and found out some exciting news, the 2.0TSI Superb model is coming in and ready for taking orders before the COE increases again, which seems most likely since alot of people are changing or upgrading their cars. The new Skoda Superb 2.0TSI is fully featured with keyless entry and push button start, price wise, the 2.0TSI is actually cheaper than the VW Passat 1.8TSI by a good 20k. To order it, they said it will take about 3 months to get in. I was so tempted, the 1.8TSI was going for 146,000. Full featured model at a special price this weekend only. And is available now. GO check it out today! What should I get the 2.0TSI or 1.8TSI......hmm...
  13. Local Skoda Superb review by Carbuyer SKODA OFFERS A SUPERB ALTERNATIVE By Hadi Soedarsono From CarBuyer, Issue 09 Those looking for a European alternative to large sedans like the Toyota Camry and Nissan Cefiro may find the Skoda Superb a worthy proposition. NOW that Skoda is Volkswagen owned, the Czech carmaker is no longer what it used to be. Inferior cars with shady reliability are a thing of the past. The company now makes quality automobiles and sells them at affordable prices. The improvement results from using VW platforms and sharing the same parts bins as its German siblings. Like the Octavia and Fabia models, that are built on the VW Golf and Polo platforms respectively, the Superb is the flagship car that's based on a stretched Passat platform. Compared to the four-door German, the Superb has an extra 100mm between the front and rear wheels, making its wheelbase and overall length comparable to the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The name "Superb" has a lot to live up to for a brand like Skoda, but the Czech company is confident that it has rolled out a winner. Furthermore, "Superb" is a traditional name from Skoda's heritage which was given to its flagship sedans during the 1930s and 40s. DRIVING IT The Superb comes with several engine variants, but only the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder makes it here. The 150bhp unit is smooth and lag-free, but becomes a tad raucous above 4000rpm. It's also a little sluggish during acceleration. However, the ultra-responsive five-speed automatic gearbox helps make overtaking a breeze. Shift quality is flawless in auto mode and there's also a Tiptronic function for you to change gears manually. Although the instantaneous shifting response in Tiptronic mode is well suited for spirited driving, the Superb is more at home when driven in a laid-back manner. The plush suspension provides a cushioned ride under most road conditions, while tyre and wind noise intrusion is minimal. If the Superb is pushed hard around the corners, there is hardly any drama. The tyres grip religiously onto the asphalt and the steering remains nicely weighted and communicative with the only complaint being body roll that could stand to be a little more subdued. INSIDE IT Step into the leather-clad cabin and you will find Passat bits everywhere, which is no bad thing. The dashboard is made from first-class materials and expensive-feeling switchgear. Build quality is bombproof and you won't find any uneven panel gaps. The seats are comfortable and supportive, but the all-black colour scheme makes the cockpit look a little bland. Cabin space is generous in all directions and we especially like the extended rear cabin with its own dedicated air-con vents. Further back, the boot is voluminous and well shaped. It should be able to swallow more than two golf bags. DOLLARS AND SENSE Competitively priced against the Nissan Cefiro and Toyota Camry, the Superb is listed at $108,000 with COE. Some of the highlights that come standard include four airbags, climatronic air-conditioning, multi-function information display and trip computer. VERDICT If you remove the Skoda badges from the Superb you could easily fool anyone into thinking that it is a German car - even its engine is shared with the VW Passat and Audi A4 1.8T. The exceptional build quality and classy cabin materials make it feel like a premium product with a higher price tag. Compared to its intended Japanese rivals, this large Czech feels more solid and posh, albeit not as well equipped. While the Superb is about as powerful as the similarly priced Cefiro and Camry, it's humbler engine size will save you a couple of bucks in road tax as well. Finally, keen drivers might find that the Superb lacks the pace of its larger-engined rivals. However, it is not Skoda's intention to make its flagship car overly sporty in the first place. The Superb is in all honesty about comfort and luxury at an affordable price. In these respects, it is indeed, Superb. SUPERB HISTORY LARGE Skodas are not new. The first Superb was launched in 1934. It had a 2,492cc 6-cylinder engine and produced 55bhp which was good enough to take it to a maximum speed of 110km/h. Over the next decade, succeeding generations of the Superb had larger and larger engines until 1949 where the fifth-generation model had a 3,991cc V8 powerplant that produced 93bhp and reached a top speed of 135km/h. The last Superb was built in 1949, and only 10 units of this variant were ever made. NEED TO KNOW Model: Skoda Superb Classic Engine: 1,781cc 20V in-line 4 Max Power: 150bhp at 5700rpm Max Torque: 210Nm at 1750rpm Gearbox: 5-speed automatic Top Speed: 212km/h 0-100 km/h: 10.9 seconds Price: $108,000 with COE Warranty: 3 years / 60,000km Contact: Czech Auto Pte Ltd, 6472-1188 AT A GLANCE [ol] [*]Headlamps look similar to the Octavia and the front grille is unmistakably Skoda [*]In Classic trim, you get climate control, four airbags and multi-function computer [*]Smooth and responsive five-speed auto has Tiptronic function for manual shifting [*]Turbo charging lets the 1.8-litre engine to keep up with its larger-engined rivals [*]Wheelbase is 100mm longer than VW's Passat making it as roomy as an E-Class [/ol] SIMILAR CARS WE HAVE DRIVEN Toyota Camry 2.0 $106,280 with COE More than a match for the Superb in terms of interior space - especially rear legroom, the Toyota may be ultimately quieter and more comfortable. But the Skoda's firmer damping will please keener drivers. Nissan Cefiro 200JK $103,000 with COE It's a thoroughly modern car with a comprehensive features list. However, the Superb's turbo charged engine will see it gathering pace long after the Cefiro's unit has run out of steam.

  17. Hi to all, glad to announce that I am a newbie Superb owner! Just gotten my ride yesterday, thanks to all the countless answers and advise from my "broken record" questions, to people like Koolaba and the rest in this forum that gives Skoda cars great credit and by word of mouth made the Skoda brand stand out just a little more. 18 months ago I would not have known that I would have bought a Superb today. I am glad a made the RIGHT choice. Cheers to all, now to learn all the maintance and ICE queries.

  19. This looks interesting Anybody up for it? Imported used vehicle 1.6L Diesel http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...506&DL=2597 Just sharing I am in no way related to the company selling the car
  20. It was about 5 years ago when I bought my Skoda Superb 1.8T. I found the brand though this very website and from the Skoda community here. I am more than happy with my ride and experience. Being such a used car, I will definitely accelerate the wear and tear duration and had parts changed. Currently my ride is sitting at the workshop to have it's cam changed as there was some issues with it. I am expecting a deeper ride after this. Its almost like a mini-overhaul. After this, ride will be powerful for the next 5 years. - Its true when people say that the car is a keeper and Skoda drivers seldom change their ride.
  21. any comments? Worth to buy? Suitable for what age? owners please response, interested in this car. Thanks
  22. I was doing the test drive rounds today, looking for a MODERATELY priced sedan to replace the wife's ride as the family mover for 3 adults 2 children. It looks like the best fit is either the C5 or the Superb Needs to satisfy the wife's criteria of: Non-MPV; non-hatchback; DVD player; comfort; overtaking oomph; GPS built-in preferred; I am familiar with Volvos and BMWs, but not looking to spend that much on the 2nd car. Having settled on the $100-110 as the price I want to pay, I have test driven the following so far. Includes a couple of stand-outs from that budget range as I wanted to be sure of what I'm missing - Toyota Prius - Skoda Superb - Citroen C5 - Subaru Legacy - MB B200 Turbo - MB C200K Some brief test drive notes. Any comments welcome - Toyota Prius 106K Pros -Huge fuel savings, esp with 70% city driving for the wife -Modern design/fancy electronic dashboard -'green' catchet - steady driving, smooth acceleration/deceleration - plenty of available stock (anyone else read the bad press? 8) ) Cons - lightweight, hybrid-friendly fabric replaced with 'local leather' - cheap interior - a little heavy - soft handling - tight rear seats, though plenty of legroom - MY09 cars. Any comment on buying MY09 car this late in the year? - Skoda Superb 116K Pros - lots of kit for the money - everything VAG has to offer - great looking interior - not sure about how long-lasting it is - 5 star NCAP - great acceleration and handling from 1.8T 7DSG Cons - Skoda - lots of poor reviews internationally on the web, though maybe not this version. Top Gear's review is hilarious - MY09 in stock - which might explain the low price. Any comment on buying MY09 car this late in the year? - local leather - reliability and servicing frequency? anyone care to comment? - 'normal' incentive of 3 free servicing and price level made conditional upon in-house insurance and minimum 50K/7 year financing. - not sure how bad depreciation could be after 3-5 years.. - Citroen C5 110K Pros - lots of kit for the money, interior a match for the Skoda - entirely imported internals - a MUCH smoother ride, the best I've taken. great for sleeping children in the back - Euro NCAP 5 star - Citroen's buy-back guarantee, which caps max depreciation at 50% after 3 years... Cons - weak acceleration, a far cry from the Skoda - steering not as sharp as it could be - reliability and servicing frequency? anyone care to comment? - 3 yr, 60K warranty - probably the worst terms among all the makes - Subaru Legacy 2.0 CVT 97K Pros - Cheapest of the cars tested - sharp handling - internal kit does not match the Skoda/Citroen, but not as 'ah pek' as the Camry Cons - acceleration could be better, but there's always the 2.5GT - wife doesn't like the Subaru radio ads and the image they project - MB B200 Turbo $139K Pros - the badge, albeit the almost the lowest end model (yeah yeah almost as bad as a badge whore). There's always the B170 at $118K.... - engine has enough oomph - lots of space for the money - both headroom and legroom are amazing for the size of the car - Euro NCAP 5 star - reputation for safety/reliability - 5K overtrade Cons - wobbly at speed and around curves - kit is worst of all the cars I've tested, barring maybe the low-spec Legacy 2.0 - MB C200K $159K Pros - Much better package than the B200, at $20K more - much sharper acceleration and handling than the B200 - 5K overtrade Cons - price - price - price
