  1. Source: https://insideevs.com/news/685267/toyota-hilux-hydrogen-fuel-cell-prototype/ Toyota built its first Hilux Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype at its Burnaston vehicle plant in Derby, England. It is a joint project with consortium partners and was supported by UK government funding. The automaker intends to build 10 of them before the end of the year. This Hilux's powertrain uses parts from the Toyota Mirai. The automaker estimates that it has a range of 365 miles between hydrogen refills. For comparison, the Australian-market Hilux with the turbodiesel 2.8-liter engine can go about 715 miles (1,150 kilometers) between fill-ups. Images show that the hydrogen tanks fit between the frame rails roughly where the cabin fits. The other fuel cell components are under the hood, where the combustion engine usually is. The battery is at the rear. Toyota started this project in early 2022 as a feasibility study. Design and development began on July 1, 2022. The company started building a prototype on June 5, 2023. The automaker intends to put the 10 prototypes through testing to make sure the model lives up to the Hilux's rugged legacy. Toyota is prepping safety performance, functionality, and durability tests for them. The company wants to understand the opportunities and risks of a fuel-cell-powered pickup. In December 2022, Toyota showed off the electric Hilux Revo BEV Concept. The automaker didn't release any details about the truck at that time, like battery or motor specifications. During the presentation, Akio Toyoda said, "BEVs are not the only way to achieve the world’s carbon neutrality goals." Also in 2022, Toyota announced that it intended to build a light-duty pickup with a hydrogen fuel cell as a joint project with Isuzu and Hino. The company didn't specify a time frame for putting this model into production. Toyota is also considering whether to make a fuel-cell-powered version of the Land Cruiser. Plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions are also a possibility. At this point, it's not clear which, if any of these, would actually go into production.
  2. Today someone from singaporeroadsaccident.com spotted a Singapore Police Force Toyota Hilux that got involved in an accident along Simei Street 3 on Friday morning (Jan 22). And here we see 2 police patrol cars and a fire engine arriving to assist. This is the aftermath. The Singapore Police Force has a fleet of Toyota Hilux (maybe one less now) and it is used as a Fast Response Vehicles. I wish the Police officer involved in this accident has a quick recovery! Good thing there wasnt any pedestrian involved.
  3. I was browsing thru sgcarmart and saw this ad on a used Hilux double cab pickup. The dep is whopping 10K/yr which is higher than big sedan like Camry and Accord. What is so special about this pickup truck that can command such a high resale? Bcos it is rare? This amount of dep can buy sport sedan like Euro R. Can this pickup run faster than a Euro R? Ridiculous pricing. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...238&DL=2047
  4. Toyota's pick up truck, the Hilux has been under fire for not doing well in the Moose test. The test, which basically stimulates a sudden lane change, tests the vehicle's stability when presented with such sudden weight transfer. It also tests the vehicle's electronic stability control ability to keep the vehicle from losing control. The test, carried out by Teknikens Värld’s, the Hilux threatened to flip as it goes through the test at 60km/h while its competitors went through the test at higher speeds without any problems. Watch the video and see what the Swedish publication's test driver Ruben Börjesson has to say about their discovery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoHbn8-ROiQ
  5. Vromos started with a stock double cab Hilux and added a few extra feet to the frame, an extra axle, and custom-built cargo bed. Not content with merely stretching the truck, the company also gave it a generous lift kit, a snorkel, huge fender flares, as well as all-terrain tires. A winch and beefy skid plates help enhance the truck's off-road prowess. While the exterior and the mechanical components are all business, the cabin was built with an unabashed focus on luxury. Another Bulgarian firm called Overdrive has masked the Hilux's utilitarian roots by fitting wall-to-wall leather upholstery, Alcantara accents, and front seats out borrowed from the Land Cruiser. While Vromos hasn't published technical specifications, the fact that the truck is equipped with an automatic transmission suggest it's powered by a 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that makes 171 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 265 lb-ft. of torque from 1,400 to 3,200 rpm. The less powerful 2.4-liter oil-burner that the Euro-spec Hilux is offered with is exclusively offered with a manual transmission. Vromos hasn't revealed whether the six-wheeled Hilux is a preview of a limited-edition model or simply a one-off. Nevertheless, it is extremely unlikely that this model makes it to our shores... :(
  6. After selling its one millionth Hilux, Toyota South Africa decided that the best way to celebrate its milestone was to create a one-off road going version of its Dakar-spec Hilux race truck. Having won the past seven titles in the South African cross-country series and achieving good results in the Dakar race since 2012, it was only natural that Toyota should blend the normal Hilux with its racing version. Claimed to be street legal, it gets a new heart, in the form of a 5.0-litre V8 donated from a Lexus IS F, a Dakar-spec inlet manifold, wiring harness, a Pectel Cosworth engine management and a tubular exhaust system. This allows the truck to output a staggering 449bhp and onto a top speed of more than 150km/h. We mention 150km/h because unlike true Dakar racers, the vehicle doesn’t have an air restrictor which prevents them from going faster than 150km/h. Other goodies that come with the transformation include new differentials with lower gear ratios and larger Dakar-spec brakes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivgSYnDzTFo
  7. In 3-5 months from now I will be assigned in neighboring Asian country for 2 years. I am looking for Isuzu Dmax and Toyota Hilux for personal use and leisures. 4x4 is a must and good suspension and of course reliable. I don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere helpless ;)
