  1. Any existing owner? Is it recommended to buy a 2011 version where mileage is more than 80k km?
  2. Seems like no one notices this... Fast Lane: Volkswagen Polo big on featureshttps://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/motoring/fast-lane-volkswagen-polo-big-on-features Volkswagen's sixth-generation Polo is here. The first Polo built on the carmaker's new MQB platform, the car is powered by a 115hp/200Nm 1-litre turbocharged engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. For a small car, it has big features, including keyless entry, smartphone connectivity and six airbags. Two versions are available - Comfortline and Beats. The Polo accelerates from zero to 100kmh in 9.5 seconds. Prices start at $89,900.
  3. Starting a discussion thread for past, current & future potential owners of 2010 Polo. Lai lai lai, come share tips, FC, modifications, etc
  4. This appears to be the all new Volkswagen Polo and it has been spotted recently in South Africa without a shred of camouflage. Spotted on the net via Cars.co.za, the car looks larger than the one being replaced. Details of the car remains scarce but it is expected to be based on the new MQB-A0 platform and will get a range of newly updated engines, including a new 1.5-litre TSI petrol turbo unit that will have 128bhp or 148bhp. A smaller 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol turbo will also be made available with multiple power ratings of 64bhp, 74bhp, 94bhp and 113bhp. The engines mentioned will be paired with a 7 speed dual-clutch gearbox. Inside, the new Polo will be better built and is likely to feature a digital instrument display, large touchscreen infotainment screen and a wide array of active safety systems. The supermini is scheduled to debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
  5. Not sure whether this have been done before, but what are the major difference btw this two car other than turbo and engine size? FC?
  6. There have been rumours going around saying that Volkswagen is preparing a high performance version of the Polo. The German automaker has been rather tight lipped over it initially and later on denied that there would be such a model. But at the 31st GTI Meeting held in Worthersee, Austria, held earlier this year; Volkswagen unveiled a Polo concept which is known as the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street Concept (top most image). The concept is a road version of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC that will be competing in the World Rally Championships in 2013. And now, there are reports of a production version of the Polo R that is said to be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will be offered to the public shortly after that. Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen's head of R&D, has confirmed that the company will debut the Volkswagen Polo R at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show and the launch will coincide with the automaker's entry into the World Rally Championships. Hackneberg also mentioned that the Polo R's announcement was in fact to draw attention to Volkswagen's WRC efforts and the company originally had no intentions to release such a model. The production Polo R is said to get a tuned version of the same engine used in the Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk VI. The 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder unit is tuned to deliver 225bhp. This will give the Polo R a higher performance level over the Polo GTI (second image from top). With a lighter kerb weight compared to the Golf GTI, this means that the Polo R will be slightly faster than the Golf GTI's 0-100km/h timing of 6.9 seconds. The Polo R will remain a front wheel drive unlike its Golf R sibling and it will benefit from a mechanical limited slip differential. Exterior wise, the Polo R will surely be kitted with a host of body modifications and bigger sized wheels in order to differentiate it with the base and GTI models. Expect it to feature a lowered, and probably adjustable, suspension kit and bigger brakes. Photo credit: Net Car Show
  7. The Volkswagen Polo has been named the 2010 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show. VW's car beat out two other finalists, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Toyota Prius, to win the award. 30 vehicles had originally been nominated for the prize, a list that was whittled down until the three finalists were announced last month. To be considered for the award, a vehicle had to be in production and sold on at least two different continents in 2009. At least 500 units of each nominated vehicle had to be produced in 2009 to qualify. “Holding its own in the most competitive market segment, the all-new Polo MkV is one of VW’s star performers," a representitive of the jury said in a press release. "Draped in head-turning stylish curves, the Polo is certainly one of the classiest small VWs ever built. It’s also safe; generating a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating. Behind the wheel, the Polo demonstrates mature manners and boasts a superb driving position that’s adjustable and, in common with the latest Golf, all the controls are well weighted and precise." "The Polo is just one brilliant supermini.” The award is voted on by a jury of 59 automotive experts from around the world, though only one juror was from Africa or South America. Collectively, they narrowed the field from 30 to ten in January, before choosing the finalists a month later. Previous award winners include the VW Golf, Mazda2/Demio, Lexus LS460, BMW 3-Series, and Audi A6. Separately, the jury awarded the Chevrolet Camaro with the World Car Design of the Year prize, and the entire Volkswagen BlueMotion lineup as World Green Car of the Year. The jury did not disclose why they picked the BlueMotion Golf, Passat, and Polo collectively, instead of choosing a single vehicle.
  8. Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled a Polo concept known as the Polo R WRC Street Concept at the annual GTI meeting in Worthersee, Austria. The production version is now ready and as initially confirmed; the car will go on display at the upcoming 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen has released images of the car which is now known as the Polo R WRC and the car will be produced in limited numbers and it is considered to be the road version of the Polo R that will participate in the World Rally championships. The final product was heavily inspired by the concept shown at the GTI meeting. The Polo R WRC looks more aggressive and beefier than the Polo GTI, all thanks to the reshaped bumpers and wider stance. 18 inch rally inspired wheels are fitted on all four corners of the car. At the rear, the car receives a trunk mounted spoilers and dual chrome exhausts tips. The Polo R WRC is available only in white with grey and blue stickers placed on the front hood and at the side of the car. In the interior department, the front seats are fitted with bucket seats and the seats are wrapped in a mix of leather and alcantara. A three spoke steering wheel and aluminium pedals complete the racing look. The Polo R WRC is the most powerful street legal Polo that the company has ever built. The car is fitted with a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine and it is the same unit from the Golf GTI. The engine makes around 220bhp and with a torque of 350Nm. The car completes the century sprint in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 240km/h. As mentioned above, the Polo R WRC will be built in limited numbers and Volkswagen will built only 2,500 units of it.
  9. The Volkswagen Polo R WRC, driven by Andreas Mikkelsen goes up against skiing pro against Norway’s downhill skiing champion Aksel Lund Svindal in this 'Top Gear style' race. In this video, Mikkelsen's mission was to drive down this spectacular Lyseveien road in the southwest of Norway, which features 27 hairpins spread over 29km as fast as he could while Svindal used the a more straightforward approach, going directly towards the finish line on his skis. 10. http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2015/06/27/Hitandrun-driver-forgiven-Cops-focus-on-the-positives-after-crash/ KUALA LUMPUR: Sporting dark glasses to cover up their blackened eyes, the policemen who were rear-ended by a student in a viral hit-and-run video say they have already forgiven the driver. Kpl Zainal Abu Bee Din and Kpl Nor Alhayari Buyong said they would rather focus on the positi ves that came out of the accident. “We were not badly hurt. We have been injured much worse than this before. Luckily, the boy only hit us and not anyone else. “And we saw how quickly people were willing to help us. One motorcyclist chased after the Volkswagen after he ran and another gave us his video of the accident to help in the investigation,” said Kpl Nor Alhayari, 58. The two Mobile Patrol Vehicle partners were out on their rounds at about 8.55am on Wednesday in an underpass in Jalan Pudu when they were hit from behind by the student in a blue Volkswagen Polo. The student braked for a fleeting second before stepping on the gas pedal, pushing the skidding police car into a concrete barrier before speeding off. “We were totally caught by surprise. We were just talking in the car. I was checking my phone and then all of a sudden, BANG!” Kpl Zainal said. Kpl Nor Alhayari gripped his wheel tighter to stop the car from overturning as the Volkswagen’s hood dug into the bottom of the police car and lifted its two back wheels. Kpl Zainal, 50, was cut in his right eye while his partner hit the dashboard. Despite their injuries, Kpl Zainal was back patrolling the streets on Thursday while Kpl Nor Alhayari hung out in the Dang Wangi police station after being given medical leave. The officers said the student was returning from a night club party the evening before the accident. “He messaged us later that day to apologise, and we both accept. “I did not want to reply to him because you know how people can take what we say and try to make us look bad on the Internet. “So, we just accept the apology and move on,” Kpl Zainal said, adding that the Volkswagen in question had already had three accidents before this. The student was charged yesterday and pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.

  13. - Polo R The happy people at R GmbH have decided to show us a picture of the new Polo R. It seems the official tuning arm of the People's Car, a.k.a Volkswagen, have come up with the R version of the Polo GTI. This Polo R is the fourth R version following the Passat, Golf and Scirocco versions already shown to the general public. According to the still secretive R GmbH, the Polo R makes 210bhp from a new direct injection 1.6liter turbocharged TSI engine. The base Polo GTI has a supercharged and turbocharged direct injection 1.4liter engine. That small four-pot makes 178bhp and 249Nm of torque. The reason I said that R GmbH are secretive is that torque figures of the R has not been released at yet but I expect that it should at least make 270-280Nm. Pretty impressive figures for a production 1.6liter engine. - the Polo R is derived from this car, the Polo GTI. According to sources, unlike the Golf R, the Polo R is front wheel drive like the Polo GTI. I believe as according to some, a front wheel drive is capable of handling up to 260bhp without much handling and grip problems. And because the Polo R only has 210bhp front wheel drive is sufficient. I would also expect a more aggressive electronic XDS differential as well as the usual higher (and harder) specced suspension to go along with the engine upgrade. The usual seven speed DSG transmission would be the gearbox utilised in the R. Of course the biggest change is the visible one. The front bumper is clearly more aggressive with those three large air intakes. The R specified blue color follows the other R cars released recently. This is a Volkswagen which I kind of fancy. It is small (therefore light and nimble), specced well, looks like a hot hatch from the 1980s and early 1990s. Compare this to a Golf GTI which has grown and grown and grown until it looks like a mini MPV. I'd buy this Polo for proper hot hatch thrills. But of course, more information would be released by R GmbH soon and then I would want to test drive the Polo R first before making any solid conclusion on this latest R version of a Volkswagen.
  14. [extract] Alright folks. More news on affordable cars for you esteemed readers to digest. Volkswagen has just launched the 140ps Polo BlueGT over at the Geneva Motor Show. The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT is the Polo that sits in between the Volkswagen Polo 1.2TSI (105ps) and the Polo GTI (180ps). It therefore is the middle child in terms of power but one that actually more economical than both its siblings. Volkswagen has basically combined its BlueMotion Technology (Stop/Start & battery regeneration systems) onto the 1.4liter TSI petrol engine found in the Polo GTI albeit with a slightly lower state of tune (140ps instead of 180ps) and the addition of cylinder deactivation system (Active Cylinder Management
  15. Volkswagen held a press launch for the new Polo GTI hot hatch on Monday, and it was probably one of the more interesting ones I've experienced in my (relatively short) media career. What they did was lay out a small circuit at the Marina Bay Golf Course, and let us journalists loose in the spicy little car. And, knowing how competitive us motoring writers are, there were prizes awarded for the top three fastest times of the day. How did I fare? Well... The basic circuit layout was this: A long starting straight, before braking to a halt at the other end. Then turning around you get a slalom course, before braking to a stop at the end again. Turn around once more and off you go. Two rounds constitute one lap. Everyone gets a practice turn and two timed laps. We were actually the first to arrive, and so I was the first to give the car (and course) a go. I'm not sure if that helped in any way, but being among the first to check out the Polo GTI's capabilities, it gave me confidence that I could set a quick time on the day. After my first run, we took a short break for lunch (and let other journalists have their turn), and to find out more about the Polo GTI. Volkswagen are embarking on a novel approach in promoting this car, and I will talk about it more later in the article. After lunch, and some vivid dicsussion with the Volkswagen people about the car, I was filled with confidence and ready to go out for my second run. Unfortunately, the confidence from my first run must have gotten to me, for I probably overdid my second shot. I braked far too late for the braking points, and powered on too early during the turnarounds. As I felt the car going away from me, I over-corrected, and then I heard the clunking sounds of traffic cones falling over. Before long, it was over. I was still hopeful of getting a good time, until I was told that I would be penalised for my over-exuberance. Volkswagen wouldn't reveal the times to us (Hmph), but I figured that my antics would probably ranked me somewhere around...last place. Nevertheless, it was loads of fun. I remembered grinning endlessly after I stepped out of the car, not just because of my mad driving, but also because the Polo GTI was such a hoot to drive. Of course, these can only performed in a close, controlled environment, like the one Volkswagen set up for us, and NEVER on public roads. So it was a rare opportunity for us to release a little of our driving beast within. And naturally, I didn't win any prizes that day. But the experience of piloting such a fun car as the Polo GTI would stay with me forever. If you're interested in finding out more, Volkswagen has decided to market the Polo GTI through a series of new online media, with its innovative website (www.pologti.sg) featuring a very fun game, set along to the beatboxing sounds of top local beatboxer Dharni. Give the game a go, and you might even win a prize. In addition, Volkswagen are also releasing a couple of teaser videos on YouTube (the links of which are and ), and hopes to spread them through viral marketing. All in all, the Polo GTI is a very interesting car, aimed at people who seek to do things differently, just like it does. Check it out, and you might just emerge with a smile on your face.
  16. Just recently, Volkswagen unveiled the Polo R WRC which is considered the road version of the rally bound Polo that will participate in the World Rally Championships and not much was said about the racing version or how will it look like. But now, Volkswagen has finally revealed the race version of the Polo R WRC which will make its competition debut at the 2013 Monte Carlo Rally in January. Although Volkswagen did not give out any technical specifications or power figures, the car is built to the latest WRC specifications and that means it is fitted with a turbocharged 1.6 litre four cylinder engine. Even with an air restrictor, the engine is said to make around 300bhp. The engine is mated to a six speed sequential gearbox and due to WRC regulations, a mechanical differential is fixed onto the front and rear axle. An exceptional feature of the engine is the anti-lag turbocharger system. When the driver lifts his/her leg off the acceleration pedal, the turbo
  17. Well done , Singapore [thumbsup] Have always been puzzled why we can do so well in SEA but unable to replicate that success in Asia or even at world level. 19. You're looking at the all-new four-door sedan version of the latest Volkswagen Polo that was officially revealed in a world premiere in Moscow. The new Polo Saloon extends the German firm's range of sedans into the small car segment and will be built on a completely new assembly line at Volkswagen AG's plant in Kaluga, Russia. VW says that the Polo Saloon is the first car in the history of the brand to have been developed specially for the Russian market, bearing in mind its specific climate and street conditions. Among other things, this translates to the use of more robust paints and chrome parts that are highly resistant to aggressive agents, and a suspension geared to bad roads. In Russia, the Polo sedan will be offered with a new 1.6-litre Otto engine producing 105-horsepower. It can be combined with either a 5 speed manual or a 6 speed Tiptronic gearbox. The small sedan measures 4.38m (L) x 1.7m (B) x 1.46m (H). It will be available in three trim levels - Trendline, Comfortline and the range-topping Highline that comes with standard side air-bags and ESP. The company did not release any more details on the car nor did it say if it will be available in other markets outside Russia. A 1.2 TSI with 7 speed DSG equipped polo Saloon would be a good alternative to the Vios and City in my opinion.
  20. Was comparing these 2 models. Both car have the same Power of 105bhp and & Torque of175Nm. The engine capacity for Golf is 1197, and Polo is 1190. Performance wise, Golf acceleration from 0-100 km/h is 10.6 second as compared to 9.7 second for Polo. Similarities 7-speed (A) DSG and FWD Ventilated Disc Brake in the front and Rear Disc Brake. Control on the Steering Wheel Side Mirror Indicator Audi System with Aux/USB Port Knockdown Rear Seats Leather Steering Wheel Reverse Sensor Immobilizer Remote Alarm ABS Differences Golf is longer by 229 mm, wider by 104mm and higher by 17mm. Golf has a Wheelbase of 5450mm. Polo has a wheelbase of 5300mm Golf has fuel tank capacity of 55L Polo has a smaller fuel tank of 45L Golf
  21. The Volkswagen Polo has made its presence known in India. Eagerly awaited by the Indian market, the Polo will now be available in showrooms by March 2010. Volkswagen is not the only car-maker to venture into the Indian market, Nissan, Ford and General Motors have also taken the plunge and started manufacturing their cars in India. The Chakan factory has an annual capacity of around 110,000 cars and Volkswagen claims it to be the most state of the art amongst the Volkswagen group worldwide. The plant was set up with an initial investment of 580 million Euros and is also one of the largest investments done by a German company in India. It is also the only car manufacturing factory that is operated by the Germans that includes the entire range of the production process from the press shop, body and paint shop to the assembly. Large automakers like Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford and Nissan have now awoken to the fact that Indian consumers prefer small affordable cars rather than the huge luxury models that sell well elsewhere. I think that Volkswagen have taken a huge step to cater to the Indian market, but I'm starting to wonder whether the Polo's in Singapore will come from the same factory in India. If that does happen, it is possible that the price may go down due to the lower cost of production. However, we all know that whenever a car company outsources their production process to other countries like Thailand for instance in the case of Honda and Toyota, the quality has never really been the same as when they were originally produced in Japan. The standard set by the Polo from South Africa is the benchmark and I do hope that the Polo will be equally good wherever its made.
  22. Hi , any info of this promo and comment in term of spec and performance , thank you.

    Toughen up VW Polo

Along with the Bluemotion and GTI Polo models, Volkswagen will also be staging the latest generation CrossPolo, which is a beefed up version of the Polo. It sports black plastic molding around the wheel arches, across the sills and bottom of each door, as well as on the front and rear bumpers. The front bumper gets a honeycomb treatment for the lower air intake and light silver trim at the bottom suggests the presence of underbody protection. Also included are the CrossPolo's trademark silver anodized roof rails and handsome 17-inch two-tone wheels. The CrossPolo may not have extensive external dimensions but is able to swallow about 37 cubic feet of cargo with its rear seat down. Volkswagen offers no less than six engines to haul all that stuff. There are three gas-powered engines that include a 1.2L (70ps) and 1.4L (85ps) four-cylinder units, as well as a range toping 1.2 TSI engine (105ps) that features direct injection and turbocharging. The TSI powered CrossPolo completes the century sprint in 9.9 sec and consumes just 5.5L of petrol per 100km with either the 6 speed manual gearbox or the famed 7 speed DSG. There are also three diesel engines available. The dashboard layout is identical to the standard Polo but I find the stiched "Cross Polo" words on the front seats a nice touch.
