  3. One of Renault's concept cars may need a name change. It seems that the Renault Zoe will make life difficult for a Parisian lady named Zoe Renault. She has complained to a French daily that people will make fun of her if the car manufacturer does use the Zoe moniker on their city car concept. The Renault called Zoe Z.E Concept is Renault's latest Zero Emission concept car. It is a compact 2 door electric car that will showcase Renault's latest electric vehicle ideas. It is either that or they just want to make life a living hell for women with the Renault surname as according to Zoe Renault she cannot bear to hear
  4. The Renault Zoe was recently showcased at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and even before the official launch, later this year, the Zoe has set a new world record for distance traveled in an electric car in 24 hours. It really looks like Renault wants to prove that an electric car can travel sensible distances in a sensible period of time. Renault ran a pair of production-spec Zoes at the Aubevoye speed ring in Normandy, France. The Renault Zoe is powered by a 22kWh lithium ion battery pack which drives a 87bhp synchronous electric motor. The car has a maximum torque of 220Nm and a top speed of 135km/h. The car's NEDC Cycle range is 210km and it's Cameleon charger allows the Zoe to charge at any power level, taking around 30 minutes to nine hours. In the record attempt, the car covered 1,617km or 363 laps of the Aubevoye, in 24 hours and it took 15 drivers to take turns at the steering wheel. The feat averaged to an average speed of just 67km/h but it also included the stoppage time for the car to recharge its batteries. Since the Cameleon charger could take power of any level, the car relied on a fast 43kW charge during the record attempt and this allows to batteries to restore an eighty percent charge in less than 30 minutes. The car had to be charged nine times during the attempt. Renault is hailing this record as proof that the Renault Zoe is just as practical as a normal car. A Renault spokesperson in charge of their electric vehicles mentioned that this feat is a superb technical and human adventure and the victory is a joint commitment to showcase the quality of Renault electric vehicles. The previous record for the above mentioned feat was held by Citroen with their AX CEA which covered 1,279km and the Nissan Leaf could only manage to cover 1,250km in 24 hours. ZOE in Paris

Although ZOE sounds like COE, they are entirely different. One is a piece of paper while the other is an electric vehicle in the making. Following last year's ZOE Z.E. coupe, Renault took the opportunity at the Paris Show to show off the ZOE, which presents a more realistic look at the production version that will be available in 2012. Wearing Renault's newest face, it may also preview the next Clio as well. Similar in size to the Clio, this little electric automobile gets some high-end passenger comfort technology that may show up in the production model (Renault claims 90% of what you see here is what you'll get). To pamper the occupants, the ZOE has a humidity-regulating climate control system with an integrated toxicity sensor and scent diffuser. It also provides "light therapy", which is being co-developed with Philips. The concept seen here is 4.1 meters long and rides on 19-inch wheels. For production, dimensions are going to be similar, but expect those wheels to be replaced by smaller ones. Power comes from an 80-horsepower electric motor that makes 222 Nm of torque. A charge will take from 6 to 8 hours and can be done in two different ways: either with a wall box that you connect to your home's outlet, or by the optional EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment). Renault recommends the wall box method for the sake of convenience.
  6. Local actress Zoe Tay has quit new Channel 8 drama Lost & Found, setting off rumours that she is pregnant again. The crime drama's production team confirmed this morning that the Queen of Caldecott Hill dropped out from the lead role of an undercover cop two weeks ago. She will be replaced by another veteran, Chen Liping. If the rumour proves true, the 42-year-old is expecting her third child. She has two sons, aged 5 and 3, from her nine-year marriage with Air Force pilot Philip Chionh. When contacted, her manager, Ms Ivy Loh, would only say that the decision is due to "personal reasons". She also said that the actress has not been feeling well recently, and has promised to explain her decision to quit in due time. According to Chinese tradition, a woman should not announce her pregnancy during the first trimester. Ms Loh added that Zoe is currently busy wrapping up filming for local breast cancer movie Love Cuts. The gossip mill is speculating that the actress is locked in contract talks, though the pregnancy claim is believed to be the reason for her departure from the drama. Zoe has previously mentioned on more than one occasion that she's looking forward to the "different" role of an informant and its action scenes. In the series, which also stars Rui En, she plays a well-connected hawker who's in fact an undercover cop. Executive producer of the serial, Mr Paul Yuen, commented that Liping is not a last-minute replacement. "We did consider her at the beginning, but couldn't confirm her as she was still filming Your Hand In Mine. "Both Zoe and Liping are well liked by the masses, so they're suitable for the role. I believe Liping will be right for the role," he added. Filming for Lost & Found is scheduled to begin mid-April.
  7. Mon, Jul 30, 2007 AsiaOne MediaCorp drops pregnant Zoe Tay MediaCorp has suspended the contract of Caldecott Hill Queen Zoe Tay, who is seven months pregnant. Ms Tay, 39, who is expecting her second baby, said that under the company's new policy, pregnant actresses are suspended from work but they will be reinstated when they resume work. Gracing the latest cover of Citta bella, Ms Tay told the Chinese women's magazine that she is now "jobless" and confessed that she felt "troubled" about the situation as she currently has no income. She said her main concern now is getting her job back after having the baby, who is due in October. The actress, who has been married for six years to pilot Philip Chionh, also 39, found out that she was pregnant during the Chinese New Year period in February, but chose to announce the good news only after her first trimester. The couple have a two-year-old son, Brayden. She was able to continue working during her first pregnancy in 2004, and hosted an infotainment programme educating women on the dos-and-don'ts when having a baby. Asked if she would consider becoming a full-time mum, the former model-turned-actress said: "No way! I still need to work for myself. So long as the job gives me time to look after my children, I will not become a full-time mum." She added: "It's not easy being a full-time mum." Another MediaCorp star, Ms Huang Biren, who is also pregnant, apparently can continue to work because she is being covered by an old contract. Now two months pregnant with her second child, Miss Huang, who has a seven-year-old son, told Shin Min Daily news that she has not suffered the same fate as Ms Tay and is "still getting her normal salary." "My current contract is an old one which I signed with MediaCorp four years ago," she said. "It will expire next year after I have given birth, which means I can continue to work even while I am pregnant." Ms Huang said she is among a small group of artistes who are still on the old contract. Most of the others either renew or sign new contracts which carry the clause that actresses who get pregnant midway through their contacts will be dropped.
  8. Thief who swallowed a ring jailed 1 1/2 years By Khushwant Singh AN ODD-job worker thought he had hit on the ideal way to swipe a diamond ring from a jeweller: he swallowed it, price tag and all. But Mohamad Azman Abdullah, 48, was caught right away, and handed to the police, who took him to hospital. At Tan Tock Seng Hospital, doctors inserted a long flexible tube down his throat and into his tummy, using instruments at the end to fish out the $2,689 sparkler and its gold setting. He had to stomach this uncomfortable procedure, called an endoscopy, which is usually done without anaesthesia. In court on Wednesday, Azman pleaded guilty to the theft and was jailed 1 1/2 years. What he did not know on the day he went to the Taka Jewellery kiosk at the Midpoint Orchard shopping centre last October was that the staff were watching him closely. Just a month before, they found several rings gone after Azman had stopped by, so their eyes were peeled. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_213692.html
