  1. Another odd design luxurious sedan in the making? At a quick glance, it shout Peugeot, to me. The next-generation BMW 7 Series has been caught once more, hinting at a completely redesigned exterior concealed under many layers of camouflage. Those simple headlights are likely provisional as they seem to have a basic look, but the original 8 Series-esque placement and shape is likely the final one. Tiny rivets on many parts of the body indicate the 7 Series prototype has more than just one layer of disguise, so it's best not to jump to any conclusions about the car's exterior appearance. As for the interior, the first thing you will notice are those side-by-side screens akin to the setup you'll find in the iX SUV and i4 Gran Coupe. In those two fully electric vehicles, the instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches and is accompanied by a larger 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment running on iDrive 8. Much like in the EVs, the screens are housed within a massive piece of curved glass slightly tilted towards the driver. It’s going to be a long wait before the next 7 Series will hit the streets as production reportedly won't start until July next year.
  2. THESE BMWS OFFER LUXURIOUS DRIVING PLEASURE There has never been a larger BMW stable than now, and these three cars are the top luxury offerings from the Bavarian automaker. What's in the recipe for a luxury vehicle? Comfort, quality and good looks are some of the ingredients. While these might be the fundamentals, various supplemental factors should be added to cater to the unique tastes of different car buyers. When it comes to luxury, BMW gives you the power of choice - fitting your each and every need, no matter which model you choose. Here are the top-of-the-range BMWs, each a true testament to the brand's expertise in luxury, and what it is about each car that makes them special. 1. The 7 It all starts with the quintessential executive luxury sedan, the BMW 7 Series. There are a few cars that define the luxury sedan segment. The 7 Series is the pinnacle of it all, with looks and a level of comfort that's hard to beat. There is no doubting the 7er's big first impressions. Its strong front is expressive and bold, and The 7 is the car you'll choose if you want your presence to be made known. You only have one chance to make the first impression, and with The 7, you'll certainly make it count. And when it comes to levels of comfort, the 7 Series has plenty. It is a true lounge-like experience inside, especially in the rear where there's loads of legroom. 2. The X7 Looking for the same qualities but in a seven-seat SUV package? The X7 marks its spot with luxury, presence, and space. The X7 certainly makes an impact, and is perhaps the strongest-looking full-sized SUV out today. But where it shines is in the details. The X7 exudes high quality, with premium finishes such as diamond-cut trims for the gear selector and iDrive rotary knob. There are two full-sized seats in the third row, which means 7 people can fit into the X7 comfortably. And when it comes to space, the X7 has plenty. If a getaway up North with the family and a round of golf in between is in the books, the X7 will whisk everything and everyone in absolute luxury. 3. The 8 Want to indulge in luxury, and the impeccable style of a two-door coupe? Well, the 8 Series is for you - a true blue grand tourer that has a sports coupe silhouette and more than just a dash of luxury. In M850i xDrive guise, it sports a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces a tremendous 523bhp and 750Nm of torque. With these figures, tarmac-swallowing capabilities are guaranteed, and The 8 will certainly get any job done with the grace and pace that matches the luxurious fittings and grand affair expected of a BMW flagship. What if you don't want to miss any of the gorgeous looks, but have the need for four doors? Well, there's the 8 Series Gran Coupe. The standout luxury features and design aren't just the only things that make these cars the top-of-the-line BMWs. It is through technology and safety features that come as standard for these cars. 4. Driving Assistant Professional This is BMW's top of the line driving assistance suite, and covers a range of driving assistance features which include Active Cruise Control, Active Steering and Traffic Jam Assist. Driving Assistant Professional certainly helps in emergency situations, improving overall safety. But it takes away the stresses of driving, too. Traffic Jam Assist, for example, works by collecting data from a multitude of radar sensors and a stereo camera. It can detect traffic moving off and slowing down. It can steer as well as accelerate and brake in a traffic jam, without the need for driver inputs. With its gamut of features, the Driving Assistant Professional package reduces the stresses of driving with the latest technology helping the driver keep extra eyes on the road. 5. BMW Laserlight We've heard about High-Intensity Discharge and LED headlamps, but for these BMWs, they come with lasers. Fired through a series of mirrors in the headlight, the light is then focused into a phosphorus-filled lens. This creates a highly intense white light that is 10 times brighter than LED-created light, thereby creating more range from a smaller head light unit. While it improves illumination, it prevents others from getting dazzled too. With an aid of a camera, the Laserlights can illuminate signboards and objects, and direct light away from oncoming traffic. 6. Integral Active Steering The sizeable footprint of these cars certainly brings about added presence and style. But if you assume a large BMW to be one that is hard to manoeuvre, you'd be wrong. The system adapts the steering to different driving speeds and situations, reducing the amount of effort required to turn the wheel. The system turns the rear wheels, too. This helps reduce the turning radius in low speed situations, and for smooth lane changes at higher speeds. All in all, it adds to the overall comfort and driving abilities.
  3. Hi all, I know the model as per title is very old. But if there is anyone who has any inputs about the car to share I would be really grateful. The car I am looking at is the 730LI and is reasonably good condition. I must also add that it could be my first Bimmer :) but not first old car. Is there any things to look out for in terms of maintenance and up keep. It has been used as a daily drive. And currently serviced at a workshop. But I am open to looking for new one. My current mech does not specialise in it as far as I know.
  4. BMW officially unveiled the Vision Future Luxury Concept at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, giving the world's media an in-the-flesh look at not only a future design theme for the brand, but a rumored flagship model. This is a looker in person, thanks to its Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe-inspired design, and it's not too difficult to imagine it in production car form, with smaller wheels, larger mirrors and the other minor transformations that take place from drawing board, to auto show and, finally, to assembly line. In general, it seems like there are more than a few parts of this vehicle that are ready for production. This particular concept is wearing an eDrive badge on its backside, indicating that under the Vision Future Luxury's long hood is some form of plug-in-hybrid propulsion. It's anyone's guess as to what engine, battery and motor combinations BMW is playing with, although it does seem questionable whether BMW would launch a PHEV flagship to do battle with a top-rung variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (which will likely use V12 power). The BMW Vision Future Luxury furnishes a long-term outlook on the perception of modern luxury for the BMW brand. It stands for a forward-looking fusion of exclusivity and innovation, for a driving experience that is at once emotional and exclusive. All this is conveyed through the outstanding exterior and interior design of the BMW Vision Future Luxury along with its innovative technology, a pioneering lightweight engineering concept and a seamlessly integrated user interface and driving experience that caters optimally to the needs of all occupants. The BMW Vision Future Luxury makes its world debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. "Innovative technology and modern luxury have always been an important part of BMW's brand DNA," says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. "We use visionary concept vehicles like the BMW Vision Future Luxury to show where we may be going with these themes in the future, and to give us new inspiration and motivation. The BMW Vision Future Luxury – with its innovative technologies and with meticulous precision and quality in every detail – takes our thinking on modern luxury a logical stage further."
  5. Do you often drive when nighttime falls? Well, my father, for one, quite so often does just that. And, if you do so, too, chances are you often find yourselves kind of blinded by the illumination of cars which are coming from the opposite lane. That's not to mention that there's a great number of cars that utilise Xenon bulbs these days, blinding you even more. However, the frequency of you getting blinded by oncoming traffic is about to decrease, thanks to the so-called 'Intelligent Headlamps' feature. This is an illumination technology that comes from highly reputable German automaker BMW. To be honest, this technology isn't entirely new as it was first introduced back in July last year. Back then, it was introduced exclusively for the BMW 7 Series. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't standard even on the really expensive models from BMW. Instead, customers who desired to have the feature available on their BMW 7 Series would have to purchase the optional Adaptive LED Headlamps package. Nevertheless, probably realising how its technology may actually decrease traffic accidents significantly, ultimately leading to saving a whole lot more people, the luxury German car manufacturer is now offering the technology on the company's new 3 Series Saloon and Touring lineups as well. You'll only have to make sure that the models do have a Visibility package available on them. So, what this feature does is it detects the situations of the road and traffic ahead and then adjusts the lighting that comes from the headlamps of BMW cars accordingly. This way, it prevents the lighting from blinding drivers from the oncoming lane. Not only will it prevent drivers on the oncoming lane from being blinded, it won't emit much glare to the driver ahead of you, either. With that being said, nighttime driving will surely become safer, by a significant degree. Simply put, the technology provides optimal illumination. To make things even better, this technology is useful not only during nighttime but also when the weather isn't very friendly. In order to work its charm, this feature has to work side-by-side with BMW's 'High-beam Assistant' technology. However, my words and words alone may not really give you any ideas on what on Earth I'm talking about. Therefore, I think you may want to check out the accompanying videos. That's even more so in case you happen to be planning to purchase a BMW yourself. BMW's Intelligent Headlamps with High-beam Assistant Real life demonstration
  6. [extract] One undesirable thing that many of us car owners hate is the slamming of our car doors. Sometimes, they are slammed so hard that we could almost hear the car cry. This could make people go nuts and at times we just have to tell everyone in the car to gently close the door. Automotive technologies nowadays have evolved so fast that new and innovative systems see daylight every day to make our lives easier. BMW
  7. [extract] BMW EfficientDynamics Challenge 2011 So similar to what we did last year in Bali, BMW decided to hold another one of its signature EfficientDynamics Challenge with the Singapore journalists again. Only this time round, it
