  1. Jaguar has just handed out details of its XFR-S Sportbrake - a fire breathing, 543bhp 5.0-litre supercharged wagon capable of dishing out a 4.8 seconds century sprint. Everytime a carmaker spices things up, people (like us) get excited. Moreover we are talking about a Jag here - who could resist a sexy feline that has just gotten hotter? Based on the XF, the XFR-S Sportbrake is Jaguar's first high performance, R-S badged estate. With that in mind, you can't help but to bring in more 'established' players - such as Audi's RS6 Avant and Mercedes-Benz's E63 AMG S-Model Estate into the picture. A quick comparison with the two Germans shows that the Jag loses out both in the horsepower contest and the race to 100km/h. The RS6's 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 develops 560bhp and 700Nm of torque for a 3.9 seconds century sprint timing. The E63 AMG, too, has a bi-turbo V8 - but bored to 5.5-litre. With 585bhp on tap, it will despatch the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds. But we reckon you won't encounter either of these two on a daily basis. More importantly, the Jag has the looks to kill. Like any super sports car, the XFR-S gets larger-than-life 20-inch rims to help boast a solid, purposeful stance. Those side blades do look a tad too familiar though (like those on the RS6). And of course, part of the Sportbrake's appeal lies in its ability to swallow cargo while keeping up with supercars - up to 1,675 litres with the rear seats folded.
  2. Everytime when a super sports carmaker, especially one of Koenigsegg's calibre, releases a new model, the world stands still. And not just any hypercar - the Koenigsegg One:1 is the most powerful car by the Swedish carmaker and also, most probably the fastest car on Earth. With a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1, the 1,340kg hypercar will have an equivalent amount of horses on tap. And DRIVE gives us a short, less-than-a-minute teaser of the hypercar just before its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

    C1 Swiss & Me

Citroen's new city car - the C1 - has made buzz online when it was revealed (in pictures) before its official debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The funky looks and character are hard not to fall for, especially for the younger audiences. Now, the French automaker has chosen to use this chic supermini to pay tribute to the motor show - by wearing the national colours of Switzerland. The city of Geneva has always been considered one of the world's most liveable. That means it should be the perfect place to launch a car of such playful character. Dubbed 'Swiss & Me', the C1 Concept car has a two-tone effect - red roof and white body, with the Swiss flag proudly worn on the roof. Works are not limited to aesthetics - the C1 Swiss & Me has a central tailpipe, wing extensions and large wheels to hint at its performance. Now imagine if our streets are filled with cars of a similar concept - but wearing the national flag of Singapore instead. How cool is that?
  4. Based on the 12C super car, albeit with the face of the McLaren P1, McLaren Automotive expands its young lineup with the McLaren 650S - which would formally debut on the 4th of March, at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show. Like the 12C, the 650S is available either as a Coupe or a Spider with a retractable folding hard top. According to McLaren, the 650S promises to redefine the high-performance supercar segment, and has been designed and developed to provide the ultimate in driver engagement on both the road and the race track. The badge designation refers to the power output - 650PS - amounting to 641bhp - from the British-built McLaren M838T twin turbo V8 engine, while 'S' stands for 'Sport'. Inspired by the McLaren P1, the front bumper and the better integrated front splitter contribute to increased levels of downforce, for a greater level of steering feeling and confidence to the driver on turn-in, while also adding to the agility and handling. A new design five-spoke lightweight forged '650S' alloy wheels are unique to the model, and are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres for optimised road holding, handling and driver feedback. The bespoke 'MC1' branded tyres have been developed alongside the 650S by Pirelli. The McLaren Airbrake, now operates with a greater level of functionality providing increased stability. The newly developed system deploys the Airbrake when the car requires added downforce - instead of braking or when manually operated in 'Aero' mode. Below the Airbrake, a distinctive rear three-piece bumper, similar to the GT3 racing version of the 12C, compliments the aerodynamic shape of the McLaren 650S. Active aerodynamics featured on its stable of cars have been further developed and honed to ensure the ultimate performance and ability for the 650S. Enhanced levels of specifications are also available as an added option. These include fixed-back carbon racing seats, an electric steering column adjustment, a rear parking camera and extended carbon fibre throughout the interior.
  5. Audi launched its flagship performance series line, the RS, with the Audi RS2 Avant twenty years ago. To pay tribute to the founding model, Audi will launch a special edition RS4 Avant Nogaro from early 2014. Although previewed through digital media, the car will celebrate its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, finished in Nogaro blue and carrying exclusive equipment. Like its forefather, the customised Nogaro blue pearl effect paint finish is the most noticeable visual signal of the anniversary model. Originally, the RS2 Avant was optionally finished with an exclusive Nogaro blue hue, recalling the two victories achieved by Frank Biela on the Nogaro circuit in the French Touring Car Championship of 1993. The RS4 Avant Nogaro houses a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 powerplant that delivers 450bhp at 8,250rpm, with a peak torque of 430Nm available between 4,000 and 6,000rpm. The lump propels the RS4 Avant from nought to century in a brisk 4.7 seconds before climbing to a governed speed of 280km/h. It sips 10.7L/100km - for a CO2 equivalent of 249g/km. In the sporty interior, Audi offers two different upholstery versions. In both cases, the side sections are covered with black Valcona leather, Alcantara synthetic fibres for the centre sections and door trim inserts are coloured either black or Nogaro blue. A modern classic: the Audi Avant RS2 from 1994 The Audi RS2 was the first RS model from Audi, and also the brand's first high-performance model to combine everyday usability with a dynamic character. Audi developed the RS2 in cooperation with Porsche, with assembly occurring at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Its appearance alone was indicative of the power it held within. The front bumper featured powerful air inlets, and the grille was painted black. The rump of the RS2 Avant was dominated by a thick horizontal band of light that emphasises the width of the vehicle. The force fed 2.2-litre five-cylinder engine delivered a modest 315bhp and 410Nm of torque and sprinted to the century mark in a respectable 5.4 seconds and reached a top speed of 262km/h. A six-speed manual transmission delivered the power to the quattro drivetrain, which had a manually activated locking differential at the rear axle. Fast forward twenty years later and the Audi RS6 Avant, the most powerful car in its lineup, is armed with 560bhp and a dizzying 700Nm of torque from a 4.0-litre V8. Dubbed the everyday supercar, the RS6 Avant completes the sprint to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds - 0.7 seconds quicker than a V8 powered Audi R8.
  6. Previewed as the Cactus concept back in September last year, the production-ready Citroen C4 Cactus retains the funky looks, practicality, and the radical but functional, 'Airbump' element. Citroen believes the Citroen C4 Cactus stands out from its rivals in the C segment, and unites good looks with functionality - with unique styling and flush surfaces that are free of harsh edges. The C4 Cactus boasts a length of 4,160mm, sits 1,730mm wide and stands just 1,480mm tall for improved aerodynamics - with a 2,600mm wheelbase - akin to the C4 hatchback. Fitted to the sides of the car and the bumpers, the innovative Airbump technology, they are available in four colours and can be matched with the ten body colours and three choices of interior trim for a wide range of personal customisation. Above all they provide real protection, as the supple Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) skin comprises air capsules to absorb impacts - and require no specific maintenance, which contributes in reducing the vehicle repair costs. Don’t they remind your of Nike Air sneakers from the nineties? Inside, the linear and tidy cabin provides more space for the driver and passengers cocooned in a friendly, relaxing environment. The rear passenger legroom is similar to the Citroen C4 - but with more compact exterior dimensions. Boot capacity is an adequate 358 litres. The large panoramic sunroof provides effective shield from UV rays, while excellent light, heat and acoustic protection eliminates the need to fit a sunblind - which shaves 6kg of the vehicle weight. Cars equipped with the Efficient Tronic Gearbox (ETG) feature a simplified 'Easy Push' system - comprising 'Drive, Neutral and Reverse' selection control on the lower fascia, while steering wheel paddles allow the driver to manually shift gears. Tipping the scales at just 965kg, Citroen has adopted smaller latest generation engines, which reduce fuel consumption whilst maximising driveability. As a result, the C4 Cactus is available with a petrol version emitting less than 100g/km of CO2 and a diesel version emitting just 82g/km - despite returning 38.7km/L.
  7. Back in the Geneva Motor Show last year, British automaker, Lotus, introduced the world to its potentially fastest handmade convertible ever, the Exige S Roadster. Based on the company's new Exige S coupe, this roadster looks mostly identical to its coupe counterpart. However, the rear spoiler has been disposed of and there's now soft top roof available. Weighing no more than 1,166kg, this roadster will let you feel the wind blowing your hair at a speed of 233km/h, thanks to its supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine. Mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or the automaker's Serial Precision Shift (SPS) transmission system, the engine can provide the power of 345 horses in addition to 400Nm of torque. The Lotus Exige S Roadster will get you going to 100km/h in no longer than 3.8 seconds, from a complete standstill. And, to complete your comfort, you can choose a sporty or a comfortable enhanced plush interior. As Lotus is readying the 2013 Lotus Exige S Roadster for order, the automaker has also announced the prices of its latest roadster for 3 regions - UK, European Union, and Japan. With Japan being closer to us here in Singapore than the other two, I think we can assume that the price tag of the roadster there won
  8. The Porsche 911 will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and Porsche kicks-off the celebrations with the introduction of the new 911 GT3. Back in 1999, the 911 GT3 became the fastest ever production car to lap the legendary Nurburgring-Nordschleife circuit and hence after set the benchmark for road legal sports cars. Over the last four generations a total of 14,145 GT3 cars have since been built and now there is another based on the 991 series - Porsche 911. The fifth generation 911 GT3 debuts at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show and aims to set the benchmark among thoroughbred Porsche sports cars with naturally aspirated engines. The engine, transmission, body and chassis are entirely new but the proven characteristics of the track inspired sports car are preserved. The powertrain of the new 911 GT3 comprises a 3.8-litre flat engine developing 475bhp mated to a Porsche PDK double-clutch gearbox, and rear-wheel drive. Though the six-cylinder engine is akin to the 911 Carrera S they only share a few common parts and weigh around 25 kg less than the previous unit. The new 911 GT3 comes with a sports exhaust system, which is revised from the previous model. The 991 based 911 GT3 is 44 mm wider than a Carrera S across the rear axle and houses the distinctive large, fixed rear wing. The 911 GT3 hit 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds while the top speed is attainable with 313km/h via the seventh gear. The 911 GT3 lapped the green hell in less than 7:30.
  9. The new MC Stradale will be the star on the Maserati stand, alongside the all new Quattroporte as they make their European debut. Maserati has unveiled a new, potent MC Stradale that will debut in Geneva. The new four seater GranTurismo MC Stradale, combines sportiness with remarkable Italian styling and luxury. While the new Quattroporte will be built in the newer Giovanni Agnelli plant in Grugliasco (Turin), the aggressive racing inspired GranTurismo MC Stradale will be built in viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. The changes include the new carbon fibre bonnet with a striking central air intake, which reminds me of the Ferrari California, and new forged 20-inch alloy rims. Maserati claims the new GranTurismo MC Stradale boasts four comfortable seats and the cabin houses featuring new materials and style. Sadly there aren't any pictures that shows the interior. The GranTurismo MC Stradale is powered by a capable 4.7-litre, 460bhp V8 engine mated to a robust 6-speed robotised manual gearbox. The Brembo carbon ceramic discs take care of braking performance, for a vehicle with a 302km/h top speed.
  10. The current M3 is long overdue. The fifth generation M3 is on its way and will be revealed during the Geneva Motor Show next year and is rumoured to be powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder. Code-named F80, the M3's appearance in Geneva will be a lightly veiled concept where a clear styling and mechanical package of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG rival can be seen. A production ready model with a production interior will debut at next year's Frankfurt motor show, sources close to the matter have revealed. The current version of the M3 sedan went out of production in October 2011. The new M3 will be launched exclusively as a sedan, as a follow-up to the coupe, cabriolet and maybe a Gran Coupe variant to fall under the M4 nomenclature. The M3 sedan will have subtle styling changes that is also functional like a deeper front bumper with large cooling ducts for the forced-induction engine, a lightly tweaked kidney grille, etc. A trunk-lip spoiler can be spotted from the spy shots that complements the deep rear bumper that incorporates a diffuser and traditional quad exhausts. The M3 will retain a steel structure, though certain parts of the body shell, like the hood and doors, to be constructed from aluminum. To match the performance levels from rivals Mercedes and Audi, BMW's powertrain is expected to deliver about 450bhp. Also for the first time the manual gearbox will be replaced by a standard seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, similar to the M5 but with altered ratios. Picture Credit: Autoblog
  11. The 2012 Geneva Motor Show has brought many automakers to the land famous for founding the Red Cross, chocolates, fine timepieces and etc. During this event, Ford has plenty to show the world what they have come up with. Other than the Fiesta ST, Tourneo concept van and the Kuga (or Escape), Ford has unveiled an important model which is the B-Max. You might ask; why is it important? Firstly, the B-Max targets the mini MPV market segment which has increased in popularity. A mini MPV is suitable for those who are looking for a car that provides extra space but not too large in overall dimensions (easy to manoeuvre around). And the B-Max offers not only that but something else that is rather innovative. The B-Max is based on the same platform used on the Fiesta and it does not have a B-pillar. Ford has emphasised that this feature is mainly for easy access into the rear seating area. How did Ford achieve this? This ingenious design integrates the central body pillars into the hinged front doors and the rear sliding doors. The usage of ultra high-strength steel for the integrated central body pillars offers five times more strength, if compared to the usage of ordinary mild steel. And Ford has ensured that this provides excellent crash protection especially from a side impact. This unique feature creates a wide opening which enables someone to load or unload bulky items and it is also useful for large sized passengers to move in and out of the rear passenger compartment. The B-Max is available with several petrol and engine types and the highlight is the all-new 1.0 litre, three cylinder engine from the EcoBoost engine family. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual- clutch transmission and it features a turbocharged direct injection and also a start-stop system. The Ford B-Max will go on sale in Europe later this year as a 2013 model. Photo credit: Net Car Show and Auto Blog

The hot hatch segment has grew rapidly over the last few years and today, these cars are able to deliver performance that was not imaginable in the small hatch segment roughly ten years ago. The performance of larger sized hot hatches are moving towards the sports car category and the space left behind are being taken up by a new generation of performance orientated subcompacts. And Ford has presented the all new 2013 Ford Fiesta ST as part of this new generation. Ford has released pictures of a production ready version of the 2013 Ford Fiesta which the company will unveil during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It is confirmed that the car will be launched first in the European market by 2013. The previous Fiesta ST was last offered in 2008 and fans of the car were clamouring for a new model ever since. Ford didn
  14. [extract] Hyundai has unveiled the European specced Veloster Turbo at Geneva. This turbocharged version of the quirky Veloster brings a little more power to the car that has all the styling of speed but saddled with only 140 horses from its normally aspirated 1.6-litre engine. With the application of a turbocharger, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo makes 183bhp and about 270Nm torque. Good for the affordable single rear door coupe to have a 0-100km/h time of 8.4seconds compared to the 9.7seconds of the 1180kg normally aspirated car. - The normally aspirated Veloster- This is actually an affordable fastback cum coupe for the masses but unfortunately for us over here, Hyundai has not even brought in the normally aspirated model pictured above. The right hand drive variant has been launched early 2011 and it is already being sold in the UK and Australia. This brings us to the problem of affordability

  16. [extract] A few of my friends recently test drove the 2012 Range Rover Evoque and most of them basically decided that those that decided to save SG$20,000 or thereabouts for the BMW X3 or the Audi Q5 must have been either mad or simply too 'poor' to afford that extra amount asked by Range Rover for the Evoque. The car is totally 'worth' the SG$260,000 in terms of looks and its interior appointments. It looks stunning in the flesh and is one of those cars that one yearn to own. If one could afford it of course. Anyway, what owners of Range Rover, Land Rover has done is come up with another stunning Evoque, in a chunky Tonka toy sort of way
  17. Early this year, Audi mentioned that the company will reveal a more powerful Audi TT at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. If you are one of those who are eager to know what Audi have for us, you can stop waiting because the German auto company has officially revealed the most powerful TT variant ahead of its debut in Geneva next month and it is known as the TT RS Plus. Audi has made the TT RS into something like a baby R8; compact and fast. Under the hood is the same 2.5 litre turbocharged engine used in the normal TT RS model but it has been tuned to generate almost 360bhp with a torque of 465Nm. That is an increase of around 20bhp and 15Nm of torque. It is said that Audi is looking to challenge this model with rival cars like the Porsche Boxster S. The car is available in both coupe and roadster versions and potential buyers of the TT RS Plus have the choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (S-tronic). The dual clutch transmission comes installed with a launch control function. The car also gets the company
  18. Ferrari has not slowed down development of its other baby Ferrari, the California. The Ferrari California is already a favourite to those who never thought of owning a Ferrari before due to its easy going nature (compared to other red blooded Ferraris). It is actually the first Ferrari that you could actually drive to the market and back without its driver feeling intimidated by it. And for 2012 the Ferrari California will have more Italian horses, goes on a diet and has better running shoes. This car will be 30bhp up from the previous year's model and also up to 30kg lighter than before. It will also have a quicker steering rack and more responsive dampers than before if one opts for the new handling package. This allows the 2012 Ferrari California to reach 100km/h from zero in 3.8seconds. The car is scheduled for its first unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Ferrari has basically upped the California's 4.3liter V8 engine to 438bhp. This was achieved with new exhaust manifolds and a new engine map. Torque is about 503Nm at 5000rpm and the torque curve has been made better by having higher torque output throughout the rev range. The 2012 Ferrari California is also lighter as Ferrari has introduced new aluminium fabrication and construction methods. These new techniques have made the car 30kg lighter without any loss of structural rigidity. Ferrari has also decided to introduce a handling kit for the California. The 'Handling Speciale' package includes steering and suspension upgrades for the car. The HS pack will make the very relaxed (for a Ferrari) California into a more driver oriented car. The HS equipped Ferrari California will include reprogrammed control software for the magnetorheological adjustable dampers. The dampers themselves will have lower-friction seals that will allow the suspension, which has springs 15% stiffer to improve body control, to respond up to 50 per cent faster to bumps. The California's steering rack with the HS pack will be 10 per cent quicker. I suppose Ferrari, while noting that the California is liked by non-fans and has actually helped Ferrari gain a whole new category of customers especially those who used to drive Mercedes Benz SL, Porsche 911 and BMW 6 series cabriolets. But Ferrari has decided that the California needed a performance package to appeal to its more traditional customers therefore broadening the Ferrari California's customer base.
  19. Just one year ago, Volkswagen introduced the Mk6 Golf Cabriolet at the Geneva Motor Show. And this year at the same auto show, Volkswagen is bringing a production ready Mk6 Golf Cabriolet GTI. The car will be the last Mk6 Golf sub-model before the German automaker unveils the next-generation Golf some time at the end of this year. Volkswagen first showed a concept version of the car in the middle of last year during the 2011 Worthersee Tour. Many felt that it was not surprising for Volkswagen to introduce a GTI version for the car as they have done that before in the Mk1 Golf Cabriolet. The car might retain some of the concept
  20. Although Audi is busy with the introduction of its 2012 A4 Allroad model at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show, they have something up their sleeve. And that is the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad which they have announced just recently in Germany. Looks like the Audi A4 Allroad will get a big brother. Audi has adopted its Allroad recipe for the A6 by taking the A6 Avant and making it ready for the urban jungle. If you were to really compare the A6 Avant with the A6 Allroad, the Avant is a sleeker-looking vehicle and the Allroad is more suited for some rough and tough driving. Firstly, the Allroad
  21. [extract] Audi has displayed the upcoming 2013 A3 interior at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show which is currently being held (10-13 January 2012) at Las Vegas. What exactly Audi did was to display a functional mock up interior of the A3. A car
  22. Sometime today (1st March 2011) the Audi A3 Sedan Concept Car made its official debut but in true World Wide Web fashion, photos of the car have already been revealed. It has been a while since we had a small Audi sedan and Audi noticed it. When the A4 started gaining in bulk after the B6, B7 and now the nearly A6 sized B8 models, those that wanted something compact from them had to settle for the A3 Sportback. Not any more as for the first time after nearly a decade, we have an Audi sedan that is compact and good looking. It is presumably as small as the A4 B5 series that was first launched in 1994 and the show car looks like an RS3 Sedan instead of a bread and butter A3 hatchback (Yes, I know its called Sportback, but it IS a hatchback). Take a good look at the size of the alloy wheels, its lowered stance and the aggressive front end if you disagree with my thoughts. I have to again state, look at those rims! 20inches on an A3 sized car is definitely RS3 Sedan Concept car to me. In fact the engine gets the RS3 Sportback 4 cylinder 2.5liter turbocharged engine but with added firepower. The A3 Sedan Concept gets 402bhp instead of 334bhp. It weighs 1540kg and will do 0-100km/h in 4.1seconds. It is Porsche Cayman eating, but I would settle for 350bhp anytime as the car looks good. A good small sized Audi sedan, soon to be back after all these years. Well, better late than never.
