He's a veteran member of miw... part of the inner-circle... experienced minister (who seemed a good performer except a few flaws plus losing his seat in the last GE), etc. We all know ex-ministers (or senior post holders) will be given 'good' posts in GIC linked businesses after they retire, a typical 'reward system' used by the miw for its members. But GY's case seems to break the 'tradition'..... he joined a foreign group instead of becoming a 'family' member of GIC/Temasek dynasty. What went wrong? Are his views on how singapore should be led/governed so different from the miw's views that the latter TL and 'abandoned' him? or its the other way round: he super TL with miw's refusal to change despite their failed methods which led to him losing his seat during the 2011 GE? Does his departure (from the miw clan) signal the beginning of an 'exodus' of other miws from the party (due to fractions, infighting, etc)? Or is his latest move to a foreign group just a detour / smokescreen leading to something 'drama' eg forming / joining a opp party? Or all is well, nothing to think about, life goes on? miw might have offered him a lucrative post in GIC/temasek etc, but he rejected it? or miw told him "FO, and take care of yourself?"

Such a exceptional, sharp-minded & sincere man of such high-calibre should not fade into the back-ground if he loses his seat in the parliament. WP Pritam Singh did everyone a great service by suggesting he contest in the Presidential Election come August 2011. Ambassadors or GIC/TLC posts seem insignificant as compared to the highest office in our land so I think in the likely possibility George loses his Aljunied GRC seat, he should move on to seek the President's post. That to me is the best scenario under the circumstances & will not put Aljunied GRC votes to a emotional dilemma. For those who argue that LTK should instead go for the Presidential Election, unfortunately he is not qualified based on the high standards required of a potential Presidential candidate.

Aljunied voters have decided and I respect their decision. Having committed 23 years of service to the residents, it is only natural for me to feel disappointed but this is politics. It has been my privilege to have served them all these years and they have enriched my life. They have also enabled me to serve in various capacities as a Cabinet Minister in MITA, Health, MTI and MFA for which I am grateful. Why did we lose Aljunied? Mr Low Thia Kiang himself said that they won Aljunied not because the Aljunied team did not do a good job, but because the voters wanted WP to be their voice in Parliament. Mr Low's analysis is fair and I agree with him. This desire for a strong WP voice in parliament was a political tide which came in through Aljunied which we were unable to withstand despite our very best efforts. Right from the start, the Workers party made Aljunied a national battleground. The fight became one between a Workers Party voice in Parliament and an Aljunied team with two ministers, a potential Speaker of Parliament, a potential minister and a most effective Town Council chairman. Though I wish the outcome had been different, Aljunied voters have made their choice. Many of my supporters asked me to stay on to win back Aljunied in five years time. I wanted to level with them and told them last night that it is better for a younger person to take on this important task. I'm already 57 years old and would be 62 by then. Naturally I would help to ensure a smooth handover. As we ended our campaign on 5 May, I talked about the importance of transforming PAP. This is a belief I've held for some time. It was not something I felt I could say when the campaign started. But, as the campaign went on, as we heard the growing cry from the heart, I decided to make it plain. Like it or not, we are entering a new phase in Singapore politics development. How we respond to it will decide Singapore's destiny in the 21st century. If George is so important, surely can arrange a by-election in any pap SMC for him to return?

I am really puzzled why the ruling party keep stressing that this chap is indispensable. You mean our efficient civil service will collapse, our woman will become maids overseas, FDIs will dry up & foreign reserves will kaput come May 7 if Georgie & his team did not win? We do not owe anyone a living & if he together with his team is being voted out fair & square, then the only gracious thing for the ruling party blokes is to accept defeat & move on. At least we can respect them for that. Don't tell me the capable A-Team cabinet, the existing ruling party backbenchers or even the newbies cannot even produce one new foreign minister, a new PMO minister or one new parliamentary speaker? George Yeo, if he is really that capable, can be easily employed by the GIC or TLC companies to continue to serve Singapore. Heck since he is so highly regarded in foreign relations, assign him to be a ambassador to improve our troubled relationships with other states such as Malaysia. We might even reap high returns & have unthinkable benefits if he can be a high commissioner in KL & manage to win them over! At least he & his team members when defeated could still seek refugee in GIC or TLC companies or civil service. What about opposition party members who lost? Do you think they have such luxuries? To me all these threats to Aljunied GRC folks is really really regrettable. The latest coming from an elderly statesman who still think open threats very effective in his era will work wonders in today's context. To the eligible voters of Aljunied GRC, the fate of our nation is in your hands now. If this chance is lost we may never have the chance to have our voices heard ever again because the ruling party would take it that the people have spoken & they still prefer the lightning team to reign. Mr Yeo, who is also MP for Aljunied GRC, hinted on the makeup of his team for the constituency. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a community event, Mr Yeo indicated that one of them will be the Assistant Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress, Ong Ye Kung. Another is current MP for Marine Parade GRC Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. "They're the existing five Members of Parliament who are going to stand again, I think. Plus Ong Ye Kung, who's been attached to us, and Faishal, who comes with Kaki Bukit which is a new addition to the GRC," Mr Yeo said. "Among these seven, five will stand as candidates for the PAP. That's my estimation." Mr Yeo added there's a possibility that one of his current MPs Yeo Guat Kwang may be leaving the Aljunied GRC team. "That's possible, because the portion which he is responsible for, most of it, is moving to Ang Mo Kio GRC," he said. "A part of it is going to Pasir Ris, and the landed property side remains with us. But the majority of the people he looked after will be moving to Ang Mo Kio, so it's entirely possible that he may move out. But we don't know for sure until Nomination Day." George Yeo Foreign Minister George Yeo has rejected claims the ruling People's Action Party is out of touch as "completely untrue". Speaking to Yahoo! Singapore in a frank and honest one-on-one interview, the 56-year-old Minister said, "I know what I do as an MP and what my colleagues do. We spend a lot of time just working with ordinary people... We can't solve all problems but we do what we can." He added, "So I would say we are more in touch than those who criticise us for being out of touch." Even as the Singapore economy shot out of the blocks from the 2008 financial crisis to a record 15% growth in 2010, concerns about the rising cost of living, competition with foreign workers and housing issues have dominated discussions both online and in coffee shops around Singapore. The year 2010 was also dominated by headlines surrounding the escape of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror leader Mas Selamat and recurring flash floods around several areas of Singapore. Asked about what kind of report card he would give the PAP for its performance over the last few years, Minister Yeo said it was not fair for him to assess he and his own PAP colleagues. "It's hard, I mean here you are putting me in a position of a student and I cannot be writing a report card on myself. But if you take a step back, and compare Singapore to other countries... in every country, what sets their success or failure in the end is politics," he said. But the Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC encouraged voters to look at the big picture ahead of the impending General Election. "If you are to rank countries, Singapore comes right near the top.
