Recently a study was made on the concentration of people using a phone in the car, even while using a hands-free device. The study found that braking reaction time and driving skill were impaired in almost all motorists who took part in the study. Two scientists, Jason Watson and David Strayer, psychologists at the University of Utah, located in the land of cheeseburgers and fries, asked 200 volunteers to drive along a motorway in simulator. Braking reaction time, following distance, memory and the ability to do a simple sum were all measured. The subjects were then asked to repeat the process but this time they were asked to conduct a phone conversation which involved memorizing certain words and carrying out more mathematical problems.
