  1. What happened? Andre Low Jun Cheng was sentenced to 18 months’ jail and a driving ban of 10 years after crashing into a PAB (power assisted bicycle) rider with two children while speeding after drinking alcohol. He was heading home on Tampines road after drinking one-and-a-half glasses of cognac that night. The accident happened at the T-junction of Hougang Avenue 1, where the victim stopped his PAB on the second lane. At around 9.55p.m, Low continued accelerating while going straight, failing to notice the rider until too late, and crashed into the back of the bike. The victim was flung upwards and rolled on top of Low's car before falling to the ground. The collision wrecked the e-bike and ripped off portions of the Mini Cooper's front bonnet and bumper. Two cars that Low overtook while driving noted he was going fast. It was noted by the court he was driving from 70km/h to 93km/h, despite the speed limit of the area being 60km/h. Low called for an ambulance and the victim was taken to a hospital, but ultimately died from head and chest injuries. Mr Low was then arrested and escorted to traffic police headquarters after failing a breathalyser test. Police found that he had 45 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of his breath, higher than the legal limit of 30 microgrammes. He is considered a serious offender based on this number. The prosecution asked for 15 to 18 months of jail and a driving ban of 10 years. This is considered the mandatory minimum. His lawyers asked for a jail term of not more than 12 months instead, saying it was his client’s “first brush with the law”. Online chatter Many felt that the drunk driver was not punished harshly enough. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. What happened? An accident took place on 21 June 2023 at the junction of Hougang Avenue 3 and Kim Chuan Road, where a traffic police motorcycle hit a 58 year old man, resulting in his death. The police were alerted to the accident around 5.30 pm, and the two ambulances were dispatched to take 2 people to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The victim was unconscious, and died in hospital, whilst the 31 year old officer was conscious on the way. These are the only pictures available of the scene, and no information as to what led to the accident. Online chatter Some speculate as to what happened, as there is apparently an overhead bridge nearby. Some wonder what will happen to the police officer, calling for imprisonment to avoid double standards. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. All the interesting things happen over the weekend. Like this, for example. What happened? On 21 May, 2023, Hougang residents were greeted with an unusual sight. Motorcyclists. No, I’m not saying motorcyclists are unusual, but how many of them there were certainly was. Not to mention how they are all pushing their bikes alongside them instead of using them. Traffic police were there as well, seemingly keeping a watchful eye over the motorcyclists. We have no information or context on why they’re all rounded up like this so… someone misbehaved? Online chatter One netizen noted how it looked like a “walk of shame”, as if the motorcyclists were from primary school. A few also joked that a funeral was happening. Others just questioned what happened to cause the round-up. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. This has to be one of the most unique, one-of-a-kind accident you would have ever seen before. The aftermath of the accident might even be meme-worthy. Watch it here: What Happened? The accident occurred at around 7am, at Hougang Avenue 1. As the morning traffic started forming at a red light, a BMW 520i driver decided to perform an abrupt lane change from lane 1 (go straight/turn right lane) to lane 2 (go straight-only lane). Despite an oncoming Toyota Corolla approaching, the BMW driver insisted on squeezing through and changing lanes. Unfortunately, the Toyota Corolla driver was either not paying attention, not practising defensive driving, or simply not fully awake. And needless to say, the BMW and Toyota collided with each other. The BMW driver decided to react by swerving to the right for some reason. And as a result, the BMW grazed the side of a Honda Civic that was in front of it. The back-to-back accidents left all 3 cars perfectly aligned in a straight line, entirely blocking off other motorists from passing through. The jam must have been so bad at this junction, considering the morning jam + the jam caused by this accident. And also, can I just point out how bad I feel for the Honda Civic driver, who was patiently waiting at the traffic light but got implicated in this accident? Netizens' Comments I would love to watch him crawl out from the boot! I can totally imagine this😆 Helicopter helicopter~ ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 5. Regardless of your road experience, motorists need to practice defensive driving/riding at all times. Unfortunately, some motorists simply take things for granted. Watch it here: What Happened? A motorcyclist was riding straight as he approached the exit gantry of the open-air carpark at Hougang Mall. Just then, a white Mitsubishi Attrage began moving off from his parking lot. Despite the Mitsubishi Attrage entering the rider's path and field of vision, the rider did not seem to perform any braking manoeuvre and continued riding straight. The rider only came to a complete halt upon a frontal collision into the side of the Mitsubishi Attrage. After that, both motorists alighted from their vehicles and started blaming each other for causing this unnecessary accident. The Motorcyclist's Perspective From the rider's perspective, the Mitsubishi Attrage should have given way to him as he had the right of way since he was travelling straight. Furthermore, the Mitsubishi driver failed to check clear for traffic when exiting the parking lot. In other words, he should not have exited the parking lot as there was oncoming traffic approaching him (AKA the motorcyclist). The Mitsubishi Driver's Perspective From the Mitsubishi driver's perspective, the motorcyclist was still quite a distance away from him. Hence, he decided to move off from his parking lot. The motorcyclist should have given way to him as half of the Mitsubishi Attrage's body was already on the main road. IMO, I think this is a 50/50 matter - Both parties should bear the brunt for their actions. And may I add, how this accident could have been avoided easily? What do you guys think? Who has the right of way? Netizens' Comments Nuff said. Many netizens seem to be faulting the rider for his lack of defensive riding. I think so too! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  6. This has got to be one of the most puzzling incidents I have ever witnessed. Watch it for yourself below: What Happened? This incident happened along Hougang Ave 4. From the footage, a van is seen turning out from an HDB carpark when suddenly its door swings open and a man in red drops face-first onto the road. After the fall, the man remains unconscious throughout the rest of the video. It is not known what has caused the man to fall from the moving van. However, it was certain that he was not wearing his seatbelt securely. NGL, this incident reminds me of the introduction to Mr Bean. Regardless, I hope the man is fine and here's to wishing him a speedy recovery!🙏 Netizens' Comments You just had to... What if...this was what actually happened?😯 Very observant! That makes a lot of sense. ======== Receive a $10 PayNow for every submission we publish on Facebook! Simply WhatsApp us ➡️https://bit.ly/3c6JERA
  7. A truck driver was spotted forcing open the carpark gantry arm for a Malaysian-registered Lexus in an open-air carpark along Hougang St 61 on 1st June, at around 11:26 p.m. The video also showed screenshots of the truck driver having outstanding fines while the Lexus driver did not seem to have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) or any outstanding VEP fines. Netizens' reactions Several netizens quickly commented on the possibility of the Lexus driver having to push the arm due to the fact that it might not have an in-vehicle unit (IU) as it was a Malaysian vehicle. While the intentions behind forcing the gantry arm open were unclear, it is absolutely dangerous to do so without instruction from the appropriate authorities. Nevertheless, it isn't right to damage public property for the sake of skimping on a few dollars for parking!
  8. Uncle, where is your mask? On 24th May at 10:03 pm, a video was filmed of a camcar driver experiencing road rage after he had honked at a Mercedes S300L along Hougang Avenue 2. According to the camcar driver's statement, the Mercedes driver had cut into his lane aggressively while failing to signal, which led to the camcar driver hitting his horn to warn him. Immediately after, the Mercedes vehicle remained in front of the camcar and was seen dangerously braking suddenly multiple times. Additionally, once both vehicles reached a traffic junction, the Mercedes driver got out of his car and challenged the camcar driver by swearing and smashing his side window. This traumatized the camcar driver, who endured the violent behavior before driving off once it is safe to do so. Netizens' reactions With the recent implementation of stricter road rage measures in the Road Traffic Act, drivers who commit road rage will be disqualified from driving. What are your thoughts on this incident? Was the camcar in the wrong for honking or was this all just a product of another entitled driver throwing a tantrum?
  9. A Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe has been caught doing 'Boom Boom Boom' noises in one of the HDB carparks along Hougang Street 61 early in the morning last night. This has not gone well for him as videos of him revving his car that has been tuned to make "pop and crackle" noises has gone viral. s.MP4 According to unnamed sources, it seemed that the green CLA Coupe owner has been approached by home owners staying nearby for the noise pollution and a fight ensued. The police was called in and the CLA owner looked like he has been charged for causing hurt a.k.a Penal Code 323 as we can see from the Whatsapp screenshots. He was intoxicated too but was not charged for drink-driving as his female friend was at the wheel.

  11. All bro & sis, I know this is a long shot but if you were at the junction of hougang ave 4 and hougang st 51 around 12noon on 13 May 2017 (Saturday) and witnessed/recorded the accident that my family was in, much appreciated if you could contact me. Long story short, my family was on right turn lane on hougang st 51 turning into hougang ave 4 towards imh when BM came (from opp direction on hougang st 51) and hit my family's car VW on the left back passenger seat which caused the car's left side airbag to be activated (this showed the intensity of the impact). We have no idea what BM's story is and dont want to speculate. My family's car does not have a in-car cam (yesyes, i know, we should get one and we will!) Any help given will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! (pictures attached. BM stopped at the place where i took the picture and VW was not moved at all after the impact. We were so grateful that VW did not hit the divider. The end result of that would be nasty)

  21. HUAT AH! SINGAPORE: An executive maisonette in Hougang has been sold with a record Cash-Over-Valuation (COV) of S$225,000, about five times the average COV paid for such properties. COV is the cash premium buyers pay for a resale HDB flat. The flat is located at Block 237, Hougang Street 21. According to property portal SRX, the 148 square-metre maisonette was sold on October 16 for S$900,000 including COV. Property analysts said it is not the norm. They believe this flat commanded a premium because it is situated right next to a neighbourhood park, within walking distance of food centres and an MRT station, and also a buyer who is willing to fork out a large sum of money. ERA Realty's key executive officer, Eugene Lim, said: "It also takes a certain kind of buyer who would be willing to pay this price. An example would be someone who is downgrading from private property. Perhaps he has cashed out his landed property, looking for something with a similar feel as landed property, with upstairs, and downstairs. But, having sold his landed property for huge profit... this COV may not a big sum to him." With more HDB flats commanding exceptional prices in recent months, analysts MediaCorp spoke to say prices appear to be climbing. Analysts said some will fetch high prices if they command premium views, sit in a well-connected estate and meet the right buyer with the ready cash. HDB data shows an average of 2,000 to 3,000 executive flats are transacted every year. For the first 10 months of 2012, about eight such flats were sold for S$900,000 and above. There are more than 65,000 executive flats in Singapore, including maisonettes. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1233468/1/.html

  24. http://singaporemind.blogspot.com/2012/05/...stand-firm.html Despite the attempts at character assassination. ...despite the estate upgrading carrots....despite the biased mainstream paper coverage....despite sending in the PAP big guns, the PM & DPM, to campaign for their candidate...the people of Hougang did not waver. In 1991 the Hougang people decided to vote for an opposition representative and they knew something the rest of Singapore did not know, they saw something the rest of us could not see. 21 years ago, before the Internet was widely used, before bloggers and the social media existed to pierce holes in our blindfolds so that we could see through the propaganda, the people in this small section of Singapore already saw a different vision from the rest of us. When you see this vision and start walking towards it, you will not be distracted by the little potholes, the little dirty tricks played by unethical politicians, their seductive promises and material temptations. For 21 years, the people of Hougang have walked this long journey despite having to suffer deprivation and threats. This long journey is a journey towards a democratic Singapore. Without democracy, there will be no future for our children for we will not be able to shape our own destiny. This is a journey away from our dark authoritarian past towards a vibrant democratic future. The PAP has tried to gain their support by using pork barrels, propaganda, and threats...but these are precisely the undemocratic things the Hougang people are walking away from - the more the PAP uses them to get their votes, the further the Hougang people will walk away from the PAP. Once a people know what they are doing is right and just, there is nothing you can do to force them off their path. On Thursday, I went to the Hougang rally and climbed up one of the blocks next to where the rally was held to snap this picture. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S8-qCeDWKbE/T8FS...oto+%282%29.JPG As I climbed up the block, I noticed that it was very clean. I also noticed that most people staying in the block had left their wooden doors open, to let they air in, were relaxed at home with their families watching TV. The tens of thousands of people who have gathered the open field in Hougang were from other parts of Singapore not Hougang. See... the people of Hougang don't have to go down to the open field to hear the messages and be convinced to do the right thing - they already know which road to walk and what path they are taking so they gave the standing space at the rally to their fellow Singaporeans. Singaporeans came looking for inspiration in Hougang to bring it back to their own corner of Singapore. Today we have a govt that does not listen to the people. Does not act in the interest of ordinary citizens. It does what it wants then uses propaganda and pork barrel carrots to make us vote for them. They use their authoritarian powers to suppress their opponents and character assassination as a tactic to bring down their opponents. As they do this, we can see how much our fellow Singaporeans have suffered - the elderly who are made to work at an advanced age, the large segment of workers with low stagnant wages, the high burden put the sick and their families. We look around and see our beloved country losing its identity and changing in ways we do not want it to change. We see little progress in our political system as other countries in Asia such as S.Korea, Thailand, Taiwan transform theirs to be free and fully democratic moving away from old authoritarian ways. I sense many people were worried when "Yaw-gate" broke and the frivolous Png-gate was created and played up that many people in Hougang would waver and succumb to the upgrading promises Desmond Choo dangled before them. After observing them for 21 years, I was confident they would stand firm so I last Tuesday I wrote " <http://singaporemind.blogspot.com/2012/05/you-dont-have-to-tell-hougang-how-to.html> You don't have to tell Hougang how to vote" . The people of Hougang can already see with great clarity where the PAP govt will take this country unless real change takes place. The PAP govt has demonstrated time and again that there will be no change if the people are seduced by estate upgrading and do not vote against them. Once you see the same vision as the people of Hougang, you will have their revolve to take right path and not waver. 21 years ago, Hougang was just small SMC, a little dot on the map of Singapore but the people there knew that this long journey starts with each one of us taking a tiny step in the right direction...and if we work together these tiny steps will eventually add up to be a leap forward. There are many who will distract us, discourage us, misinform us, threaten us and lure us away from our path with tricks ...when that happens, ask yourself what would happened if the Hougang people had yielded to these tricks and carrots yesterday - our nation would have been taken backwards and the small progress we made since GE2011 would have been undone as the PAP will interpret an Hougang victory as an endorsement of their policies and stop the already slow trickle of changes to improve the lives of ordinary Singaporeans. The rest of us have a lot to learn from Hougang to put our country's interest above our own local interest and understand there are more important things than facilities on our estate. By voting for the opposition, the people forego the wet market and other facilities that the PAP dangled in front of them ....they have to travel to Kovan to do their marketing, But no change can come without sacrifice if they had succumbed to the divisive pork barel tactics of the PAP, it will be a great loss not just for Worker's Party but for Singapore. Each political party and MP should be elected on how their ideas and policies will benefit Singapore and Singaporeans ..and not how much money they can redirect from national coffers to use as carrots to obtain votes, That the PAP continues to use such tactics that divide and harm the country tell us they have not changed fundamentally. The people of Hougang inspire all of us to fight against this and do what is good for our country. A friend of mine sent this to me. May be some of us here may have already read the above article. I must say : 后 港 人 有 种 后 港 人 有 骨 气 正 所 谓 威 武 不 能 屈.
