  1. Nissan has released a teaser image of the revived Datsun brand, showing the design cues of the front fascia. The image suggests that the first Datsuns will have a small honeycomb grille with a chrome frame. The headlights adopt an angular shape. According to Nissan, the Datsun models will have a strong independent brand identity. Late last year, a Nissan executive in Europe said that the Datsun models will share a platform with the Lada Kalina, a supermini produced by the Russian automaker AvtoVAZ and sold under the Lada brand. Lada will join the Renault-Nissan alliance with the vehicles sharing mechanical components. However, Nissan assured that Datsuns will have different exterior and interior styling. Along with the release of the teaser image, Nissan has announced that Datsun cars will be offered in South Africa, in addition to the previously planned markets of Russia, Indonesia and India. Nissan phased out the Datsun brand in March 1986. The Datsun name is most famous for the 510 (below), Fairlady roadsters and later the Fairlady (240Z) coupes.
  2. [extract] Four years ago, Renault-Nissan and Bajaj Auto announced plans to build an entry-level model for emerging markets. The result is the RE60, unveiled ahead of its debut at the New Delhi Auto Expo. Bajaj claims that the RE60 will be the world
  3. There has been a lot of talk lately about the recently inked strategic cooperation between Daimler AG and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. And we're not referring to the official agreements on the development of a new rear-wheel drive platform for small cars and the swapping of diesel and petrol engines between the two groups. Leaving aside recent rumors of a small Infiniti CUV based on the next generation of Mercedes' A / B Class, Japan's Best Car magazine is now reporting in its latest issue that the Infiniti M and G replacements (Nissan Fuga and Skyline in Japan) will share a common architecture with the Mercedes E-Class. Even though there's no official confirmation, the prospective move makes sense not only because Mercedes-Benz has already agreed to give Infiniti a range of four and six cylinder gasoline and diesel engines for its future models, but also because of the broader savings in vehicle development costs for both automakers.
