  2. A 31-year old Singaporean driver had two police vehicles hot on his wheels in a 15km high-speed chase on Monday night, which spanned from around Punggol West to Shenton Way. He was eventually nabbed for driving while under disqualification, and for his rash act. The police had been conducting an operation along the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) when the man's car whizzed past. He was found to be speeding, but did not stop when signalled to do so by the police. Instead, he stepped on the gas and sped off. The police began their pursuit, which started along the KPE around Punggol West and moved to the East Coast Parkway (ECP). The chase ended after the car turned into a carpark along Prince Edward Road around Shenton Way, and the driver found himself cornered by the two police vehicles. His car finally came to a halt after colliding with the police car. Police investigations are ongoing Bugger. Trying to mess with Mata S80
  3. Buy a penthouse at V on Shenton and get a discount on an Aston Martin sports car? To celebrate Aston Martin Singapore's 20th anniversary, the British luxury sports car manufacturer is partnering V on Shenton to offer new owners of a three-bedroom or penthouse unit discounts on selected car models. Among the six models available for discounts are the V12 Vantage S launched in Singapore earlier this year and the Vanquish. V on Shenton, developed by United Industrial Corporation (UIC), is a twin-tower development comprising a 23-storey office building and a 54-storey residential tower. The mixed development is due for completion in 2017. To date, the project has sold close to 70 per cent of its 510 units of studio, one to three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, a spokeswoman from sales agent Savills told BT. Asked if the marketing campaign was targeted at moving the condo's bigger units, she said: "Sales are well spread across studio to three-bedroom. The two-bedroom units have been really popular." The condominium released mostly three-bedroom apartments and penthouses for sale in its second launch, she added. Of the total 510 units, 104 are three-bedders and eight are penthouses. Prices start from $3 million for a three-bedder (about $2,212 per sq ft) and $10.3 million for a penthouse (about $3,107 per sq ft). In this promotion available for April only, all selected Aston Martins will also come with options or accessories totalling up to $40,000, Savills said. "Cross collaborations with like-minded brands provide us with a good avenue to create new excitement in the market," the sales agent explained. Agreeing, Nina Lim, marketing manager for Aston Martin Singapore, said: "An Aston Martin combines three important elements: power, beauty, soul - these we see embodied within the architecture and vision of V on Shenton." V on Shenton show suites are located at The Gateway East Tower at 152 Beach Road.

  5. Singapore 'should nurture wealth creators, not just wealth managers' 04:45 AM May 17, 2012 by Cheow Xin Yi SINGAPORE - Singapore has to decide, going forward, whether it aims to be a "Jurong Island" or a "Shenton Way", said retired top civil servant Ngiam Tong Dow at a forum yesterday. Pitting the two models against each other and as metaphors of "wealth creators" and "wealth managers", Mr Ngiam expressed concern that Singapore might be nurturing more of the latter, at the expense of the former. "I believe that, while many Singaporeans are competent in our jobs, few among us are brilliant," said Mr Ngiam, the former Ministry of Finance permanent secretary, who is now Pro-Chancellor at the National University of Singapore. What would differentiate the wealth creator from a wealth manager, he felt, would include attributes such as tremendous reserves of energy, the ability to think out of the box and "seeing possibilities where others can only see rocks". Speaking to a group of around 250 engineering students, academics and industry representatives at NUS Engineering Auditorium, Mr Ngiam was asked during the one-hour dialogue why Singapore could not possess both wealth creators and wealth managers. He replied that a job in the technology sector has got more multiplier effects than one in the services sector. "Even if you take banking and wealth management, there's no reason why people should come to Singapore to manage their funds. It can be in the middle of the Indian Ocean with a computer. The barriers to entry are very low," said Mr Ngiam. Lauding the late Dr Goh Keng Swee's contribution to the wealth creation of Singapore, Mr Ngiam noted how Dr Goh, who was Defence Minister, had established Sheng-Li Holdings to build up Singapore's defence technology. Sheng-Li was later renamed Singapore Technologies (ST) Holdings. Under Dr Goh, Mr Ngiam said that ST engineers refurbished fighter aircraft and built battle tanks, which were comparable to others internationally. "After Dr Goh retired from the Government in 1986, there is no one to replace him as our wealth creator," he added. "The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation and Temasek (Holdings) are sovereign wealth managers for our national savings and reserves. They are not wealth creators." Temasek in particular, Mr Ngiam felt, is supposed to be a wealth creator, but are just being "fund managers". Going forward, Mr Ngiam said the direction Singapore takes will have an impact on its political, economic, educational and labour policies. Asked what Singapore can do now to nurture wealth creation, Nr Ngiam said: "The engineering faculty should be given more resources." Later, he suggested that the Government could provide funding for university final year students of any discipline to start their business aspirations. "At the end of the day, if 10 per cent succeed out of 100, there will be 10 future companies," said Mr Ngiam.
  6. Gang attacks motorist By Khushwant Singh ANGRY that a motorist had honked at him, Li Guoshing, 24, blocked and kicked the vehicle. He and 10 friends later attacked the motorist. On Thursday, Li pleaded guilty to both offences and was jailed six months for being a member of an unlawful assembly that attacked Mr Eric Lee Shi Da. For kicking the car, he was fined $2,000 and ordered to pay $700 to compensate for the damage he caused. Mr Lee, 28, was driving with a friend, when a group of men dashed across the road in front of Club Sabai Sabai at Shenton Way. Mr Lee had to brake abruptly and sounded his horn. Li walked up to the front of the car and hurled obscenities at the two occupants. When Mr Lee refused his challenge to come out, Li kicked the front of the car. After Li moved away, Mr Lee drove to a nearby car park and discovered that the front body kit along the bumper of his car was broken. He and his friend then returned to the area outside Club Sabai Sabai. As he was trying to settle the matter with Li, Mr Lee received a blow on his back and fell. Li and his group then punched and kicked him repeatedly, only stopping when the club's security officers intervened. He was later treated at the Singapore General Hospital for bruises on the head, neck and arm. A third charge of behaving in a riotous manner by repeatedly charging at a patron with a bottle in Club Sabai Sabai was taken into consideration by District Judge Lee Poh Choo when passing sentence. Two of Li's accomplices - Chang Pui See, 30, and Allan Low Seng Yoong, 35, have been charged but not dealt with. Source
  7. http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNew...908-236204.html Singapore's central business district, Shenton Way, was flooded this morning after a heavy downpour, according to a STOMP report. A reader CannotBeLikeThatOneWhat told STOMP he saw the flooding outside SGX Centre. He wrote in an email to the citizen journalism website: "I could not believe my eyes when I saw that Shenton Way was under water this morning outside SGX. "Could it have been caused by the new construction work next to Shenton House?" The National Environment Agency had warned of heavy rain on Wednesday, with heavy showers and thunder expected between 10.15am and midday. PUB says flash floods may occur in low-lying areas in the event of heavy rain. "The public is advised to exercise caution and look out for flash floods," the NEA said earlier on its website. There have been eye-witness accounts of other areas of Singapore being affected by heavy rain. STOMP reader Jin Jialat said there was high levels of water at North Bridge Road this morning. The heavy rain turned the staircase at his house into a "waterfall". "Super heavy downpour at North Bridge Road. I have been living here for over 20 years but this is the first time I see such flooding along my housing staircase." The Novena Square area also experienced heavy rainfall, AsiaOne reader Yeoh Wee Teck told AsiaOne.
