Last night an online auctioneer sold off a Nissan GTR. But many sharp-eyed bidders noticed that the "winner" of this bid seemed to have the same GTR since 2018. Coincidental? As title suggests, the way we do our retail shopping is changing. Brick and mortar stores are failing. New malls are sprouting out in neighborhoods and even high profile ones like Jewel or Funan. But go to the established malls and you see the truth behind the retail trend. Footfall in malls are falling and that's because of the shift in the way shoppers' shop. First it was the physical retail store, then e-commerce in the form of websites (blogshops etc), after that Carousell took over and almost everyone I knew sold something online be it brand new or used. Now? The latest trend is Facebook Live Auction. This isn't something which recently started though. Facebook Live Auction has been around for a few years now but only in very recent times did it catch on in Singapore. Prolific sellers like Misshopper Boutique (S Hook Jiejie) whom recently found fame in the unique way she pitched her items to her viewers and also for being 'entertaining'. Subjective. Personally the very first few live auction house I started watching was maybe SG BlackMarket (presumably the first live auction house in SG). They stream every few nights a week for 3 to 4 hours at one time. They hawk electronics items, anime collectibles, action figures (Marvel, DC), Fortune Cat (Maneki Neko), Daruma etc. And the main point is, their items DO NOT COME CHEAP. I kid you not. A $15 item can close off at $50 or even more. They regularly close off their items in the $80 to $150 range, and that's per item. They're not cheap but people bid. Why? I would put it down to their auctioneer Lennon. He's funny and sarcastic and there are viewers who tune in just to watch him and subsequently get hooked on bidding too. After months of watching I never got down to bidding anything though I did try once for a Doraemon plushie. Their videos have since been deleted except for one of Lennon's. New auction houses are popping out almost everyday. A lot of these items are actually returned goods. Some may not come in boxes, some boxes may be damaged, some may be missing a controller inside etc. Hence the cheaper price you may be getting it for. Anyone of you here have bid for anything on Facebook before? What's worth it and what's not?

I was looking at the used car section for Auction Cars...... I wonder what is the definition of pre-owned car? I believe it is different from Auction Car. Auction Car will be repossessed car from the finance companies, right? I believe pre-owned car are previously test-drive vehicles at showrooms or leased car that is more than 6 years old from the AD. Am i right? I noticed there is another category of car that is only for Business Entities To Tender. It is not repossessed car. Why only business entities can tender? special COE? I ever saw a car own by a business with a COE value of $0. The COE still have few years left. I wonder why the COE value is $0.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The next James Bond movie will be delayed indefinitely due to "uncertainty" from the still unfinished auction of MGM, the movie studio behind the film series, producers said on Monday. The so far untitled movie, which will be the 23rd in the series about the British spy, had been due for release in 2011 or 2012. James Bond is one of MGM's most lucrative franchises. But Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of James Bond, said in a joint statement, "Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on BOND 23 indefinitely." The two producers added that they do not know when development of the film will resume and when it will be released in theaters. A representative for MGM could not be reached for comment. MGM last year began exploring a potential sale of itself, and sources said in March the company received a $1.5 billion bid from Time Warner Inc. It was the highest bid received for MGM, but still below the $2 billion or more that the storied Hollywood studio had initially hoped to receive, and it could still file for bankruptcy, sources have said.

CNA: Don't turn elections into auction of "goodies" says Minister Khaw Boon Wan SINGAPORE: National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Monday (June 2) warned against turning elections into an auction between political parties promising voters as much "goodies" as they can, with as low taxes as possible. He made this point during a dialogue at the joint World Cities Summit, Singapore International Water Week and CleanEnviro Summit. The topic of financing rapid urbanisation came up. Mr Angel Gurria, the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development had raised that a common way of financing urban growth is through taxes such as consumption tax, property taxes, or green taxes. Mr Khaw said it is natural for people to want more, but not want to pay higher taxes for it. He said political parties should not take advantage of this. "In all honesty, we must acknowledge most of our people would always want more, but would never want to pay more in taxes, and it's incumbent upon our part to be honest with our voters, because if every election is a mere auction between political parties to give as much goodies as they can with as little taxes they need to pay, I think democracy of that manner must lead to insolvency and eventually, political cynicism." Mr Khaw added there is no shortage of money to finance the development of infrastructure - the problem is a lack of sustainable good ideas which will benefit all sectors in a country. He said, as long as projects are bankable, there will be no shortage of funding. However, it is inevitable that governments may need to help finance some projects in order to help the poorer segments of the population. Mr Khaw also shared with delegates some lessons that Singapore has learnt. One is the importance of keeping the economy open. He stressed that protectionism has no place in Singapore. This is because in the case of Singapore, its domestic market is too small. Still, some observers say being small may have its advantages. Said CEO of Suez Environment Company, Mr Jean-Louis Chaussade: “Small cities are much easier to manage than very big cities where the problems are really complex due to the size. It's less in terms of technology; it's easier in terms of human resources, and human cooperation." However, Singapore faces additional challenges because it is a city-state. "Because the state consists of only one city, if the city fails, the country fails. So, for example, Detroit may be bankrupt but there are many other American cities can continue to prosper and America remains a major global power," explained Mr Khaw. Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection. This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats. Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.

There will be an excellent opportunity to get lost in the '80s at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. A 1986 Ferrari Testarossa driven by Michael Jackson in the 1987 Pepsi commercial "The Chopper" will cross the block along with hundreds of other desirable cars. The black Testarossa was converted into a drop-top Spyder by the R. Straman Company of Costa Mesa, California for its television appearance. Behind the seats is a 4.9-liter flat-12 producing 390 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque and red valve covers--hence the name Testarossa, which means "red head" in Italian. Barrett-Jackson didn't list mileage, but the car reportedly received a significant overhaul in February 2013. The Testarossa is a quintessentially '80s car. With its wide, wedge shape and cheese grater-like side intakes, it still makes quite a statement. Whether that statement is positive or not is unclear. Built from 1984 to 1991, the Testarossa was probably best known as one of the stars of Miami Vice, It's even pretty fast by modern standards: it can do 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 180 mph. Granted, that's not even enough to outrun that other Ferrari supercar of the Reagan era, the F40. The Michael Jackson Testarossa joins a horde of other celebrity cars at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, including Simon Cowell's 2008 Bugatti Veyron, the Hudson Commodore from Driving Miss Daisy, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII driven by the late Paul Walker in 2 Fast 2 Furious. -
Many of us here would know who Bill Cosby is and would remember his hit TV sitcom, The Cosby Show, which aired during the 1980s up till the early 1990s. But many do not know that Bill Cosby also has a taste for fine luxury automobiles. The vehicle you see above is actually a 1970s Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 which was once owned by the comedian and was a part of his car collection at one time. The Ferrari was recently put up for sale on eBay with a starting bid of $37,500 (S$47,408). In the eBay listing, the seller who is from San Antonio, Texas, mentioned that Bill Cosby was the only owner of the car. It is possible that the seller is a dealer who deals in cars formerly owned by famous people. You might ask if there is any proof that Bill Cosby used to own this Ferrari. Situated within the interior of the car is a plaque which stated that the car was specially prepared for the actor and it was imported by a company known as Milano Imports. It was known that this particular Ferrari model was never officially imported by the local Ferrari dealerships and it was assumed that Bill Cosby ordered the car through the above mentioned company. The Ferrari is in a very good condition and judging from the pictures, it clearly shows that Bill Cosby knows how to look after his fine cars. The Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 was produced during the 1970s with around 500 units manufactured. It was fitted with a 4.3-litre V12 engine which produces 320bhp and the engine was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. That may not sound much nowadays but with the car's celebrity status, the starting bid is just a steal.

CCS said the action by the traders not to outbid each other created the false impression that the winning bids were actually the result of a fair and competitive bidding process. This resulted in lower bids for the motor vehicles for the government agencies whose public auctions were affected. The infringements were conducted over a period of three years from January 2008 to March 2011. The traders have been fined some S$180,000. The CCS said investigations started in May 2010. It received information from various agencies, including the Land Transport Authority, the National Environment Agency, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Customs and the Singapore Police Force. Investigations showed that the traders entered into an agreement to refrain from bidding against each other at public motor vehicles auctions held by the government agencies. A sole bidder, usually Pang's Motor Trading, would bid for the vehicles after which the traders would conduct their own "private" auctions for the vehicles that were earlier won at the public auctions. The difference in the bid price of the vehicles between the public auctions and the "private" auctions would be put into a common pool and shared amongst those present at the "private" auctions. Pang's Motor Trading was fined the most, S$50,733. It was followed by Tim Bock Enterprise, which was fined S$37,795. Most of the other traders -- namely Auto & Carriage Engineering, Gold Sun Motor Vehicle Charter & Rental, Hup Lee Second Hand Auto Parts, Kiat Lee Scrap Vehicles Centre Pte Ltd, Minsheng Agencies, PKS Scrap Vehicle Centre, Seng Guan Auto Parts and Seng Hup Huat Second Hand Auto Parts -- were fined S$8,000. The remaining two traders are Kiat Lee Machinery Pte Ltd and Yong Soon Heng Auto Parts, who were fined S$17,566 and S$8,977 respectively.

The 1972 classic film - Godfather - was set during the 1940s and 50s and it featured numerous classic vehicles. Two of the cars used in the movie are set to be auctioned off next month at the Bonhams Scottsdale auction. The pair of Lincoln Continentals that will be auctioned off are of two different variants. One is a Continental Limousine and the other one a Continental Coupe. The Lincoln Continental Limousine was used in the movie's wedding scene and also used by the enemies of the Corleone family. Only 295 units of this variant was built in the 1940s and this will give people an idea of how rare and exclusive this variant is. The Continental Limousine was fitted with a V12 engine and it is mated to a three speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car was restored before filming began and the current owner has kept it in a climate-controlled storage area ever since he got it. The other car is a Continental Coupe which was used in one of the movie -

Folks, few years ago, there was this wonderful website-Yahoo Auction, which facilitated selling of 1st-hand or pre-owned goods within Singapore, meetup at MRT stations for transaction, without a need to pay a single cent for admin. The web-traffic was excellent too. But this great website has closed down few years back. Do you know of any good website which is equivalent to Yahoo Auction? I think ebay is not as user-friendly.

It seems the story about buying a big boat and get a free car isn't the only two-in-one deal pitched recently. We have another one where you now go to an auction, buy a 1935 Bentley and get the company that made the coach built body for free. In those days, people usually buy a chassis and then end up fixing a body from one of many coachbuilders. This was especially the case with people buying Rolls Royces, Bentleys and the now extinct British car brand Alvis. Coachbuilders like HJ Mulliner, Park Ward, Gurney Nutting, Vanden Plas and Hooper all vied for the same piece of action, making bodies for the car brands stated above. Of course in the days of separate chassis and body construction it was easy and the business thrived. But since the incorporation of the monocoque chassis by almost all major car manufacturers and also by luxury car manuafacturers, coach building has slowly dissappeared. At the most the companies are limited to interior trimmings and changes to the front grill and fenders at the very least. Some larger ones still have bespoke manufacturing facilities but the jobs a few and far in between.
