  1. Hey all, I am doing a survey to understand more about the local luxury car rental market, and will appreciate your help with the poll above and comments. Will you rent a Porsche 911 (Type 997) or an Audi R8 (V8) for the above prices? Thanks in advance! Here are some photos of the respective cars: Audi R8 (picture below shoule be a V10 model but the V8 model is similar looking): Porsche 911:
  2. With the current R8 nearly halfway into its product life cycle, officials inside Audi are already discussing the new generation's powertrain. With electrification a large possibility, will we see the demise of its natural-aspirated V10 engine? Not so according a report by Autocar, which claimed that there are many in Audi that want to see it live on. The V10 is an icon, and a USP within the segment”, said Audi Sport’s managing director Oliver Hoffman. “With the current R8, our customers love this car. We are fighting for the V10, but [for the next-gen] it’s more or less a question of ICE or electrification, and which kind of engine is useful for it.” It also helps that Lamborghini is thought to remain committed to offering a V10 in the successor of the Huracan, which in turn a sister car to the R8. Hoffman added, “Lamborghini has to have a naturally aspirated engine, no other brand stands for NA like Lamborghini. We are working very close with the guys from Sant’Agata. The only way to develop such kinds of cars is to share the cost for development work and to have a very, very tough platform strategy.”
  3. According to Instagram user 'dreboog', what you see here might be the new Audi R8. In his post, he mentions that the scoop was from an anonymous Audi insider that had access to the car. Set to be officially revealed at next month's Geneva Motor Show, it is likely the above photo is the real deal and not some well executed new body kit job. Don’t believe? You might want to look at some of the spy videos of the upcoming R8 going through the Nürburgring and spot the similar design cues! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDUAtZHP8-s
  4. Anyone wanna enter the pearly white gates? This is your chance! Act fast before the time for you to do so is up! I'm sure this Dream Drive will give you a heavenly experience. Go off with a huge Bang! Haha!
  5. The Audi R8 V10 Plus. What a memorable experience. Not having driven a supercar before, I was intimidated by its width at first but soon enough, i gained confidence and boy oh boy, it was a lovely drive. This is definitely ranked pretty high up there as one of my all time favourite drives. I say so because I found myself missing that V10 note, the very responsive gearbox, the security of the quattro system and yes.. did i already mention the V10 note? Anyway, here are some unpublished photos of the feature where the R8 starred in. Hope you readers like it! The V10 Plus comes with harder spring and damper rates than the lesser V8 and V10 models. It rides pretty firm but never crashes into the bumps when going over the rougher stuff. Still pretty good considering it loses the magnetic system which the normal V10 gets. 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds and 0-200km/h in 11.3 seconds. Credit goes to the engine in the above photo. Plus variant means more carbon fibre parts inside and outside. All in all, 50kg of weight has been shaved compared to the normal V10 R8. Love the way the door handle protrudes towards the driver to allow him/her to open for the door easily. Some may argue that this makes the car feel dated but to me, only a proper handbrake is right. Fun ends at 8,700rpm. Paddles are a joy to use. B&O sound system performs well but the V10 sounds better actually! Sideplates finished in carbon. Sexy. LED headlights piercing through the thin mist on a very cool night..
  6. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=374426&DL=509 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro R-tronic Reg Date : 15-Jan-2010 No. of Owners : 2 Auction closing time : 4th Dec 2013 at 11:00 PM Audi R8 also can get repossessed. Judging by that there are no interior shots, the key could be missing. Which means that the car was hunted down and towed back against the owner's wish. Dealers will likely bid very low for just non-mass market cars. Good chance for those interested direct buyers.
  7. Recently, British magazine Auto Express pit the Audi R8 against the new Porsche 911 on a race track. These two supercars are actually distant relatives considering that both brands are under the Volkswagen Group's umbrella. The Audi R8 received a facelift in 2012 with the addition of a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission that replaces the six-speed automated manual R-tronic. At the other corner, the all new Porsche 911 has a rich heritage that dates back to 1963 and has been acclaimed as one of the world's benchmark sports cars. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is propelled by a flat-six, 3.8-litre engine with an output of 394bhp. In the 4S, power is distributed to all four wheels via a PDK dual clutch transmission. On the other hand, the R8 in this comparison test is motivated by a free-breathing 4.2-litre V8 with 424bhp. Like the 911, the R8 has an all-wheel drive setup. Whoever wins this group test, Volkswagen wins.
  8. After the Audi R8 China Edition, the German carmaker has unveiled another limited edition of the super car for the Chinese market. The body of this special edition R8 is painted in Nordic Gold color. Carbon fiber material is applied to external areas such as the front spoiler, rear wing and diffuser and side mirrors. The coupe wears 19" alloys with a titanium hue to complement the body color. In the cabin, the passengers get pampered by exclusive Alcantara sport seats. The interior door handles and gear stick get carbon fibre treatment. The Nordic gold accent is applied throughout the cabin. The limited edition R8 quattro is powered by the 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine developing 525bhp and 530Nm of torque. The engine is connected to the R tronic single-clutch automated manual gear box. The super car goes from 0 to 100km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds. Limited to only 30 units, the special edition R8 is going at 2,628,000 Yuan (S$518,542). With rising affluence in China, you can bet that this will not be the last dedicated R8 for the economic powerhouse.
  9. Audi has unveiled the R8 China edition specially designed for the Chinese market. Only 80 units will be produced, with the car knob bearing the serial number from 1 to 99. Audi skips all numbers featuring a 'four' because Chinese customers consider it as an unlucky number. The Audi R8 coupe is only offered in China with a 5.2-litre V10 engine churning out 525bhp and 530Nm of torque. All it takes is 3.9 seconds for the car to sprint from standstill to 100km/h. On the outside, buyers can choose to have the special Malibu Blue paint used for the body and Suzuka Grey for the side blades or vice-versa. Inside the cabin, the aluminum shifter is engraved with the R8 emblem and two Chinese characters. Other interior upgrades include leather upholstery with contrast stitching, Alcantara material for both the parking brake and steering wheel as well as Malibu Blue trimmings are featured all over the cabin.
  10. These billionaires made it to the Forbes list as some of the richest people in the world, but their choice of rides varies. For example, one house hardware entrepreneur drives a car that would only fetch about $1,500 (S$1,864), while a software mogul could sell his car for $4.4 (S$5.47) million. While some vehicles are considered dream rides others made the list due to the owners. Though the source of this article is new, it is unsure if these billionaires have changed their rides. Carlos Slim Helu is the world's richest man, according to Forbes Bill Gates' Porsche 959 Coupe, one of only 230 in the world Alice Walton, heiress of the Wal-Mart, second-richest woman in the world. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud, member of the Saudi royal family Ingvard Kamprad, founder of Ikea, worth $28 Billion Michael Bloomberg Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle Warren Buffet Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook Michael Dell, CEO Dell Computers Steve Ballmer from Microsoft with his Ford Hybrid Fusion Phil Knight, founder of Nike Francois-Henri Pinault, husband of Salma Hayek Laurene Powell Jobs, Widow of the Steve Jobs Eric Schidt of Google
  11. The handsome Audi R8 is expected to undergo a facelift and might be unveiled either at Moscow in August or Paris a month later. Looking at spy shots, the visual changes seem minimal. Expect full LED headlights, perhaps in a more striking design, a slightly revised front grille as well as new designed taillights which seem to have lost its distinctive quad, square-shaped outline and exhaust pipes from the R8GT replacing quad exhausts on the normal R8. Engine will be retained by the existing V8 and V10 units, however, expect an increase in performance. The 4.2-liter V8 engine will produce 444hp while the 5.2-liter V10 will 533hp. The R-Tronic transmission system might replace the seven-speed S-tronic. What do you expect/want to see on the refreshed R8? Can Audi still retain the sex appeal of the first model?
  12. The usage of turbocharged engines is getting pretty rife in the last decade or so. The main reasons for this are exhaust emission regulations and also the positive highway mileage that turbo-ed engines offer. Lamborghini is one automaker that has always used high displacement, naturally aspirated engines in their cars and they have no intentions to change that. During an interview with Autocar, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman mentioned that he does not see Lamborghini using turbocharged engines in this decade but he also said that it could happen in the near future. In addition, he stated that the future can take its own path when fuel regulations are involved and any development along those lines must be consistent with the DNA of Lamborghini. Winkelman added that the next generation Gallardo is set to be launched in around two years time and it should not come with a turbocharged engine. However, there are rumoured reports of Audi working with Bentley on a turbocharged V8 engine to be used in the next Audi R8 and the engine might be used on higher performance cars within the Volkswagen Group. Although turbocharged engines are used heavily on most of Lamborghini
  13. The current Audi R8 has been around since 2006 and the German automaker has decided that it is time for a change. Audi has projected a release date for the next-generation R8. The hard-top version will be released sometime in the second half of 2014 and the following year for the convertible version. Audi R8 GT Spyder Audi has revealed some details about the next-generation R8 and it seems that the company is taking a progressive approach to it. The next-generation Audi R8 will feature a two engine line-up and they will be naturally aspirated. The new engines will be enhanced versions of the 4.2 litre V8 (for the base model) and the 5.2 litre V10 (for the high performance version). Expected power output for the V8 engine is around 450bhp (414bhp). The V10

  16. -Project Kahn Audi TR8- Recently Project Kahn previewed its reworking of the Audi TT. It basically looks like an R8 with the R8 side panels in a different colour and all so much so that they have named it the Project Kahn Audi TR8. It does look good in all of its photo enhanced glory doesn't it? But we have to note that this isn't the first Audi TT that was done up to look like its bigger brother. We already have Caractere doing the same thing with their Audi TT bodykit and we also have Niche Design doing the same thing. I suppose this shows that at least a good number of Audi TT owners actually cannot afford to buy the Audi R8 and end up modifying their TT for good measure. Or bad measure. Or whatever way so that they can achieve their goal in a slightly warped sort of way. Now this is similar to those that end up making their BMW 3 or 5 series into the M versions of their car. Of course some of them end up just changing the rear badging to achieve this goal. This is actually the cheapest way of 'achieving' their dreams, and the fastest way to be laughed at by a true motorhead. Or if you're talking about the lower end of the scale we have people doing up their Proton Saga into Subaru Impreza and it isn't even the same brand! The thing is, why won't anyone who actually owns an Audi R8 decide to turn it into a TT? Now this would be a really interesting project for people like Project Kahn or any of the Audi tuners. Imagine Project Kahn selling the R-TT; an Audi R8 with an Audi TT aping bodykit. It would be fabulous. Imagine cruising down the autobahn in the R-TT and then some insignificant little Volkswagen Golf GTI giving you the 'Get out of the way' flashing headlights and you simply floor the throttle and leave the puny Golf and its driver wondering what the heck just happened. Or if a Mercedes Benz C63 AMG owner would be so humble to remove his car's AMG and '63 ' badges and stick on the C180 'Blue efficiency' badging instead. It would be a Mastercard moment indeed to watch those pesky Toyota Camry drivers on the Malaysian highways thinking that they've got a big car and that they're pretty fast. I suppose this will only happen if the owners of the higher powered Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz would become 'humble' and be willing to step down an imaginary notch to pull a really fast one on others. Let's hope that someone affluent enough reads this and is totally willing to do what I've just suggested. So if you're rich and you couldn't care less about your Audi R8 looking like a TT, you should be the one doing such a thing. Everyone is making cheaper cars into more expensive ones so it will be something unique indeed if someone did it the other way round. -Niche Design Audi TT- -the original Audi R8 - Imagine if this was rebadged as a TT! -
  17. Project Kahn has a new styling package for the Audi A5 which draws its inspiration from its bigger brother, the Audi R8 supercar. Take a look at the front and rear bumpers and you can clearly tell the 'R8-ness' in the bodykit. But if you drove a Project Kahn Audi A5, the only thing that would come to my mind is that you can't afford an R8, ergo the bodykit (much like another company's R8 kit for the Audi TT I suppose). So if you agree with my train of thought and think that this car is actually a poor man's R8, you may just as well stop reading this article and move on to the next. But if you don't actually care what I think of the Project Kahn Audi A5 and think that it is absolutely drop dead gorgeous, then read on. The Project Khan A5 gets new ala-R8 bumpers front and rear (which includes a a diffuser

    Audi R8 Spyder

There was always a group of people who thought the Audi R8 looked a little odd, disproportionate, and boring when put side by side with its cousin the Lamborghini Gallardo. It drives brilliantly, has a Lamborghini engine but those blokes still thought, nah.. its still just an Audi. I think Audi has silenced those critics with this one. The Audi R8 Spyder is simply gorgeous with a much better looking side profile without those 'awful' carbon fibre blades. Instead, they have been replaced by sharp slabs which cut into the Spyder's side with the air vents exposed, slightly reminiscent of the Lamborghini Gallardo. /center] Another problem with the R8 hardtop is that the engine's a little quiet when you are embraced by Audi's excellent insulation materials. Now though, you can fully enjoy the soundtrack of the Lamborghini-sourced 525bhp 5.2 litre V10. The soft top takes just 19 seconds to transform the Audi into a raging animal and even though the Spyder is 476 pounds heavier than the coupe, it still manages to hit 100km/h in 4 seconds. This car is mental! And it's not just all show on the exterior and no go when it comes to the interior. Audi say that the leather for the seats are coloured with pigments that reflect the infra-red components of sunlight which makes the seats 20 degrees Celsius cooler... With that kind of attention to detail, it can only be German.
