  1. I created this thread just for the BMW 3 series, many threads were opened on variants of 3 series but I thought be great to have one just for the 3 Series variants. Ever since I had a E46 I have always loved the 3 series more than any car I owned. This video sums up what this model is all about, practical, well balance, well sized sports saloon. I'll do a write-up on a ride soon enough. Hope other owners do the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ildXLLfm23o
  2. Finally, a respite from the SUV assault. And what a break! In our latest video review, we test the latest G20 BMW 3 series! As it turns out, the car comes with BMW's latest Comfort Access 2.0, and, as you can clearly see from the pictures, it leaves both out hosts mighty pleased! (What kids 🤪) On the interior, the car also sports Julian's favorite feature... a remote charging point! We test boot space with our patented aunty trolly... and it seems like something has Julian troubled? But of course, the whole point of the 3 series is its sporty and engaging drive. Those with keen eyes will note that the car is already wet from the rain, so guess what happens when we take the BMW out! Watch the full video here to see what shenanigans our presenters get up to!
  3. Lexus hit the right note with the GS, and the IS here is no exception. Of course, the Japanese marque didn't come all the way without a mission, and that is to topple the highly regarded 3 Series off the throne. With help from the BMW M division, the current 3 Series (codenamed F30) wears an M Sport kit to muscle up its already stout appearance while the Lexus IS' visual drama is further accentuated with the F Sport body kit, which sees it put on a more pronounced front lips and bigger, nicer looking rims. The F30's interior is unmistakably bimmer, carrying the usual hues from the Bavarian marque, such as the driver-centric cockpit and the orange-lit instruments, which boast a simplistic design and are easy on the eye. The IS, on the other hand, charms with its intrinsically-styled cabin, with the space-age driver's display that was inspired by the marque's halo car - the LFA. As a whole, it feels like more effort was spent in putting the IS' cabin together, though it feels slightly more cramped than the F30. The F30 320i packs a force-induced 2.0-litre in-line four engine, and is coupled to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. On the other hand, the IS250's 2.5-litre V6 strictly relies on atmospheric pressure, and dispatches the drive via a six-speed automatic gearbox. Off the line, the 320i's sumptuous low end torque enables it to get up to pace quicker - 7.3 seconds for 0-100km/h compared to 8.1 seconds in the IS. The concise and well-weighted steering of the F30 provides talkative feedbacks, making it fun and engaging to drive. But the IS' V6 packs the linearity and creaminess that the bimmer's in-line four lacks. The biggest downside of the IS, however, lies in its price point. Still, the IS is a more complete car than the F30. And from our point of view, it is definitely a force we would like to be reckoned with.
  4. BMW Asia together with the local distributors of the German marque - Performance Motors Limited (PML) - locally launched the all new 3 Series Gran Turismo (GT) last week. The car is a looker, it has typical BMW dimensions and trademark design characteristics that does not fall from the existing 3 Series family. BMW claims, the 3 Series GT combines the Sedan's dynamic, sporting genes with the practicality and versatility of the Touring body style. Personally, I think the car suffers from severe personality disorder(s). I have nothing against the car or the potential buyers or even the brand. With a guy who possesses mild traits of OCD, I am just confused with is the sole purpose of the 3 Series GT and not to mention I do understand the whole trend of 'hybrid' multitasking products. Let me put it this way, you belong to one of the affluent classes (or getting there), you have a successful job, a small family and a decent pay that allows you to buy the above mentioned car despite the stringent loan restrictions and rules. On a simple night out with friends or extended family members you display your new metallic and leather possession
  5. [extract] The BMW 3 series is a remarkable and highly successful car line that dates back to the legendary BMW 2002. While the current F-30 3 series, in its sixth generation, looks largely different to the 2002 or the E21 3 series, a tuning company in Hungary decided to pay homage to the E30, which celebrates its 30th birthday this year. TMCars design have conceived a body kit that could modernize any existing E30 stock car that is stylish enough for the

  7. [extract] Recently, Ford introduced the 1.0L Ecoboost 3-cylinder engine in the Ford Focus. If you are surprised at how a 3-cylinder lump can power a car the size of a Focus, you may fall off the chair to learn that the new BMW 3 Series could get 3-cylinder engines in the next couple of years according to BMW

  9. The king of compact luxury sedan is set to be reborn in about 2 years' time. Expect exceptional aerodynamics with a Cd figure of around 0.24. Turbocharged units will be in full circulation at BMW by the time the new 3 Series hits the streets. We may see a 1.5L three-cylinder petrol turbo engine delivering about 150hp (112kW) while their diesel counterparts are likely to offer around 300Nm of torque. The 8-speed automatic gearbox that makes its debut in the 7 Series will find its way into the upcoming 3 series. My personal opinion is that BMW is making a wise move to downsize the engine capacity and employing turbocharging technology to compensate for lower capacity. This is going to be an industrial trend. Just look at the success story of VW's 1.4 TSI units that have won numerous awards over the past couple of years. Ford has just introduced their 1.6L Ecoboost turbo powerplants and Hyundai group is set to release their 1.6L Turbo engines in 2010 too. Such a move by automakers benefit a market like Singapore whereby road tax are tied to engine size. In addition, a lower capacity engine usually implies better fuel efficiency. From the video, the outline of the new 3 series appeared rather conservative. I hope that it will not end up looking like a baby 5 series and has it's unique styling clues. This is vital in order to take on it's good looking competitors such as the Alfa 159, Audi A4 and Lexus IS250.
  10. When the latest BMW 5 series dropped its cover in recent months, everyone was raving about how it looks much better than the previous model, how its better equipped, more fuel efficient and the list goes on. However, that's just the beginning. Because this is what the new 3 series will probably look like, and I must say, it looks pretty good. Underneath the bold, masculine lines along the side panels and that aggressive looking hood which kind of reminds me of the previous 5 series, lies a whole range of new engines and more efficient 3 cylinder units. The cabin even has integrated wifi! This is set to be the most advanced 3 series BMW has ever built. So as you can see, the new stuff in the 5 series wasn't just a flash in the pan, BMW are set to revamp their interior equipment on the smaller model as well. In terms of the way it looks, its a whole lot better than the previous model which was rather 'safe' and boring due to the sheer extent of criticism that the 5 series had to take, the 3 series suffered in terms of style. However, the new model doesn't look shy or conservative. It looks bold and sharp, especially with those enlarged kidney grilles. Under the bonnet, making its debut will be a 1.5l three cylinder petrol engine boosted with turbo chargers and its going to produce roughly 150bhp which is rather remarkable for an engine of that capacity. There will also be stop-start energy recuperation thanks to BMW's EfficientDynamics system which will save fuel and keep our wallets heavier for longer. What I really like the most about this new 3 Series is the integrated Wifi system. This allows the driver to have up to the minute traffic information from the internet, which will save time by avoiding traffic jams and the usual congestion's that plague most Singaporean motorists. The new BMW will be released early 2011. So will the new BMW 3 Series be a winner? I have absolutely no doubt about it.
