  3. What's so sh*tty about it? Well to start with, our CPF minimum sum increase (announced somewhere else today). They have just lost a fortune with ML/BoA, and what's left of the proceeds from dumping BoA, is not used to buy this. Wonder if they have already lost their reversed Midas touch yet?
  4. SMRT has confirmed an order of 570 new buses, which includes 332 MAN 12-metre buses, 40 MAN articulated buses, and a total of 201 Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 double deckers. This the new livery of SMRT ADL double deckers to be launched soon As part of the initiative to increase bus capacity on longer routes and bring greater comfort to the commuter’s bus journey experience, SMRT has confirmed the delivery of over 570 buses. Orders are confirmed for 332 MAN 12-metre buses, 40 MAN articulated buses, and for the first time, a total of 201 ADL Double Deckers. This is the largest fleet renewal and growth initiative by SMRT to date, and re-affirms the company’s commitment to offering commuters the highest standards in safety, reliability, care and comfort. A first batch of about 30 buses will be delivered to SMRT’s bus depots in June 2014. The vehicles will undergo further tests including functional, systems and road tests before joining SMRT’s existing fleet of over 1,200 buses to serve commuters from July 2014. SMRT Buses will be introducing the rest of the fleet progressively till end 2016. The addition of the ADL Double Deckers in particular will help ease crowdedness during peak hours, particularly on longer routes with high passenger loads. Together with other bus orders, these new vehicles will replace older bus models, and address the need for more bus trips and better bus service levels. Mr. Benny Lim, Senior Vice President for SMRT Roads said, “We are very excited with this major fleet expansion and renewal initiative. Expanding our existing fleet with ADL Double Deckers and MAN buses will enable us to better address increasingly dynamic road conditions, and ensure enhanced capacity in handling increased ridership. We look forward to bringing passengers even more comfortable and reliable rides.” Of the over 570 buses that SMRT has confirmed delivery for, 218 are introduced and funded under SMRT’s participation in the Land Transport Authority’s Bus Service Enhancement Programme. http://www.mynewsdesk.com/sg/smrt/pressreleases/smrt-buses-enhances-strategy-for-fleet-growth-and-renewal-double-deckers-among-confirmed-delivery-of-over-570-buses-979666
  5. Wah sei........ http://focusweek.my/Article.aspx?ArticleId=15485 In a shocking but not altogether unexpected move, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has declared Langkawi an independent state, determined to see it gain developed nation status and achieving Vision 2020, after losing all hope in Malaysia ever doing either. He explained that he had to take this drastic step to ensure that at least some part of Malaysia would be able to actualise the glorious vision he had earlier spelled out for the nation. “With Malaysia under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak going to the dogs, I see that this is the only way for me to see my Vision 2020 realised, by making my own country and pump-priming it to developed nation status,” he said. The self-declared leader explained that he bought the entire Island and its surrounding waters from the Kedah government for an undisclosed but undeniably hefty sum. “Ya I already kau tim with my son and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir. He agreed and I have the deed with me,” said Mahathir. When asked what would be the basis for the economy of the new nation of Langkawi, Mahathir said that the island nation would capitalise on its proximity to the human trafficking routes to set up human trafficking theme parks and education camps, copying the idea of a brilliant Malaysian minister.

  7. Published on May 12, 2012 By Amanda Tan Member of Parliament Lee Bee Wah has invested in a small apartment in the east. The Nee Soon GRC MP bought a unit at upcoming condominium 91 Marshall for a sale price of $826,000. This was revealed in a Singapore Exchange filing by Tee International, in which she is an independent and non-executive director, on Wednesday. The filing said she was given a 2.4 per cent discount. Tee Homes, a wholly owned unit of Tee International, is developing the 30-unit freehold project in Katong. Based on the floor plans, Ms Lee's fourth-floor unit is a 570 sq ft two-bedder. This works out to a price of $1,449 per sq ft. Smaller apartments have become more popular in recent years, given the lower absolute price and a higher rent giving a better yield. The condo is near Dakota MRT station and has only one block offering units ranging from one-bedders to penthouses, which are on the fifth floor. The project is within walking distance of Tanjong Katong Primary School and is near places such as Parkway Parade and East Coast Park. Property agents said 91 Marshall, which is expected to be completed by 2016, is likely to be launched in the middle of this month. The show-flat is not ready yet. Ms Lee, being the interested person in this transaction, abstained from the audit committee's and board's review and approval process in respect of the proposed sale. The audit committee found that the number and terms of the proposed sale are 'fair and reasonable and are not prejudicial to the interests of the company and its minority shareholders'. The board was similarly satisfied. When contacted, Ms Lee declined to comment on the purchase

  9. LONDON - A US car enthusiast has bought James Bond's famous Aston Martin car, complete with ejector seat and revolving number plates, at auction in London for more than four million dollars. The 1964 silver Aston Martin DB5 was driven by Sean Connery when he played the fictional British spy in the films "Goldfinger" (1964) and "Thunderball" (1965). US collector Harry Yeaggy flew into Britain for Wednesday's sale and outbid his rivals to buy the car for 2.6 million pounds (S$5.3 million). Click here to find out more! This was less than its pre-sale estimate of more than five million dollars. Yeaggy said the car's new home would be in a US museum - but beforehand he planned to "have a bit of fun" taking the car for a spin around the streets of the British capital. "We're going to fire the car up and drive it round the streets of London tonight. We're going to have a bit of fun with it," he told BBC television. The US collector said he had taken a last-minute decision to fly into Britain for the auction, and confessed to being surprised that an American came out on top in the sale. "I thought a European would buy it. But I guess they didn't appreciate Bond as much as we do," he said. The Bond movie car was sold by its US owner, Pennsylvania broadcaster Jerry Lee, who bought it for 12,000 dollars in 1969. The proceeds will go to his charitable foundation. It is fitted with the full complement of operational "Q-Branch" gadgets, and auctioneers RM Auctions dubbed it the most famous car in the world. The car is also equipped with machine guns, bullet-proof shield, tracking device, removable roof panel, oil slick sprayer and smoke screen, all controlled by "toggles and switches hidden in the centre arm-rest". "The machine guns, as you can see, do come out of their intended place. As far as I know, they don't shoot bullets, but then again, I haven't tried," Don Rose, a car specialist for the auctioneers, told AFP. The gear stick top flips up to reveal the red ejector seat button. It also has a homing radar and a telephone mounted inside the driver's door panel. The car has been on tour over the past five months, with appearances in Britain, Germany, Monte Carlo, New York and Hong Kong. Admission to the sale in Battersea, south London, required the purchase of an official auction catalogue available for 50 pounds. Purchase of the car, lot 197 in the sale, also included a stay at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica, the original Caribbean estate of Ian Fleming, the British author who created James Bond. A custom-made suit woven with gold thread made by the tailors who dressed Connery as Bond was also thrown in.

  14. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Owners/Buy...0121-45869.html Raymond Lim can now say taxi fare hike is helping more Singaporeans to own cars. Good strategy actually. More people buy cars, pay COE and ERP, and LTA may just be able to raise internally the $500 million that LHL refused to give LTA to build a new HQ.
  15. Extract from Yahoo News "Wednesday November 24, 11:29 AM Singapore's GIC buys 5 pct of Malaysia's Proton http://sg.rd.yahoo.com/SIG=12agucl28/M=318...101268169172554? KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The Government of Singapore Investment Corp Pte Ltd (GIC) has bought a 5.04 percent stake in Malaysia's Proton Holdings , emerging for the first time as a substantial shareholder of the carmaker, Proton said. GIC is a state investment firm which manages Singapore's foreign reserves and holds a wide range of mainly blue chip assets from Japanese and Korean real estate projects to U.S. bonsd an equities. Proton said in a statement late on Tuesday that GIC bought a total of 27.6 million shares or 5.04 percent in the company at an undisclosed price. Proton shares were up 3.3 percent at 9.30 ringgit ($2.45) by 0303 GMT. Proton said the deal was done on November 9, the day Japan's biggest trading house, Mitsubishi Corp. said it was not looking to sell its stake in Malaysian carmaker Proton in the wake of Proton's move to link up with Germany's Volkswagen AG . Mitsubishi Corp, a founding member of the Proton project to develop a Malaysian car-making industry, still owns 7.93 percent of the state-controlled carmaker. The Malaysian government owns 45 percent. Speculation about the future of Mitsubishi's stake resurfaced late last month when Proton, Malaysia's biggest carmaker with around half of the local market, struck a deal to assemble Volkswagen cars in Malaysia for sale in Southeast Asia. Volkswagen did not take an equity stake in Proton under the deal, but industry analysts say this may follow. Under the deal, the first Malaysian-assembled VW models will be launched by the end of 2005, generating sales of over 15,000 units in 2006. " So GIC is confident in MY car maker?
