  1. Siaolang many many SINGAPORE – A 59-year-old taxi driver and his seven-year-old son were injured when a man hurled a rock at the cab’s windshield on Dec 10 evening. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the incident near 201 Boon Lay Way at about 7.50pm and two people were taken to National University Hospital. The taxi driver, who wanted to be known only as Mr Chen, told Shin Min Daily News that the attack took place at about 7.20pm. He was taking his son out for dinner at the time, the Chinese-language evening newspaper reported on Dec 11. As he was driving towards Boon Lay Way in Yuan Ching Road, Mr Chen said he saw a man who looked to be in his 50s or 60s trying to stop a private bus by waving his arms. But the bus drove past him. The man seemed to be in a security guard’s uniform and was carrying a backpack, Mr Chen said, adding that the man held an object in his hand. As Mr Chen drove past the man, he suddenly reached out to yank at the taxi door even though Mr Chen gestured that he was not taking passengers, Shin Min reported. The man looked very angry. It seemed like he was shouting and he looked very fierce,” the cabby said. The man then threw the object he was holding at the taxi. Mr Chen said he and his son were shocked by a loud noise and saw that a rock the size of a fist had shattered the rear windshield. Their hands and feet were cut by the broken glass, he added. The man ran away immediately, Shin Min reported. Mr Chen then called the police, who confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are under way. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/cabby-and-son-injured-after-man-throws-rock-at-car-windshield-in-jurong

  3. A widow who lost $280,000 after handing the money to an acquaintance to make a Chinese property investment has lost her legal bid to get it back. Madam Lim Choo Eng's husband died in 2012 when a Ferrari crashed into his taxi and she used some of the money she got after his death to invest in a plot of land in China, giving it to Madam Koh Siew Eng - including a $50,000 deposit within four days of meeting her. When she realised she had been tricked, she tried to sue Madam Koh for a refund - but Madam Koh contended that she was just a "mouthpiece" facilitating the transaction and had transferred the money to a third party in China who granted Madam Lim a sub-lease for the plot. In a judgment on Friday (Aug 23), a High Court judge dismissed Madam Lim's case, even though he found she was honest and he believed her testimony more than Madam Koh's. Justice Choo Han Teck said Madam Lim's claim of misrepresentation must fail as she had not pleaded that there was a contract, oral or written, between her and Madam Koh. "Although it seems to me that Lim appeared to have acted in reliance on Koh's representation, and might even have come to an agreement with her, none of that was pleaded and the court cannot write their contract for them," said the judge. Justice Choo will hear arguments on costs at a later date, but said he did not think Madam Lim should have to bear any legal costs for the case. Madam Lim's husband, Mr Cheng Teck Hock, died aged 52 after a speeding Ferrari crashed into his taxi at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street. The Ferrari's driver, Chinese national Ma Chi, also died in the accident. Mr Ma's insurers offered advance payouts for third-party claims while public donations poured in for Mr Cheng's family. In 2014, Madam Lim decided to invest some money through Madam Koh. The two women became acquainted through their respective sons, who were friends. Madam Lim said Madam Koh claimed to be a successful investor and offered her a joint investment opportunity to buy land in China which was to be redeveloped and sold for a profit. Between March and August 2014, Madam Lim transferred more than $280,000 to Madam Koh and Madam Koh's sister. In August 2014, Madam Lim and Madam Koh flew to China to meet Mr Lu Jinlin, who was supposed to lease the land from a village committee. He did not show Madam Lim the land because of "bad weather" but she was assured by Mr Lu and Madam Koh that she would get a stake. In March 2015, Mr Lu came to Singapore and signed a document granting Madam Lim a 70-year sub-lease for part of the land. Madam Lim did not get any more information about the deal and said it was only in 2017 that she realised Madam Koh did not invest in the land. Madam Koh said Madam Lim was always aware that she was only an agent; she denied having made claims about a joint investment. She said the money was transferred to Mr Lu and his family between April 2014 and October 2016. Madam Lim's lawyer, Mr Renganathan Shankar, argued that Madam Koh had orchestrated the entire scheme as she was aware of Madam Lim's finances due to the publicity surrounding her husband's death. He argued that Madam Lim was entitled to rescind the contract or to damages. But Justice Choo said Madam Koh was not a party to the sub-lease, a contract between Madam Lim and Mr Lu. The judge added that the sub-lease was "highly suspect". Unfortunately, the authenticity of the document was not challenged, nor did Madam Lim check with the land owners as to whether her sub-lease was recognised.
  4. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/rsaf-woman-helicopter-pilot-sues-cabby-for-at-least-4m-after-wrist-injury-in-accident?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&xtor=CS1-10#Echobox=1535985205 I don't think this is healthy at all if judge approved the damages that the RSAF pliot want to get from cabby due to cabby negligence in beating red light. Imagine if Judge approved, we maybe following USA footstep where a simple fall in Mcdonald due to floor is wet and Mcdonald can get sued for few millions in dollar. Not healthy at all. So hope judge to reject the 4million in damages and injuries but maybe instead only approved say 20k due to cabby is also wrong in the 1st place by beating red light. So the cabby also need to bare some consequences.

  18. SINGAPORE - An early morning shift left an unsuspecting cabby with deep wounds on his arm after passenger went on slashing rampage. The CityCab taxi driver, only known as Mr Tan, 58, picked up the male passenger at around 6.20am in Telok Blangah. He asked to go to Jurong West, reported Shin Min Daily News on Sunday. When they arrived at the destination, Mr Tan stopped near a waste collection centre at the foot of a HDB block. As he stopped the meter and turned around to collect the fare, the passenger took out a weapon and started to attack him. "It happened so quickly, and it was still dark. I couldn't see what weapon he was using," said Mr Tan. "When I tried to retaliate, he attacked me again." As the attacker did not take any valuables, the driver believes he had no intention of robbing him. Residents reportedly heard shouts in the area. One resident reportedly saw the attacker fleeing from the scene. It is believed that the taxi driver tried to give chase on foot, leaving a 20-metre blood trail. Blood stains were also seen on the right door and window of the taxi. Police have confirmed the case and are currently investigating. Shin Min reported that the police combed the area for about five hours, but to no avail. So far, no one has been arrested. 24. A cabby attempted to find fault with STOMPer Carol at a petrol kiosk for her parking too close to the taxi last evening (Mar 18). When a bystander came up and supported the STOMPer's cause, the cabby challenged him to a fight. The STOMPer wrote: "I stopped my car at a Caltex petrol kiosk at Jurong West around 7.30pm yesterday (Mar 18) for my two-year old daughter to drop off her dad's mail into the letter box as she enjoys doing that. "I parked my car in front of a Transcab taxi and was about to head into the kiosk store when the cabby confronted me about my vehicle. "He tried to pick a fight with me for parking too close to his taxi, making his vehicle unmovable. "When I told him that all he had to do is just reverse as there was no cars behind him, he continued arguing with me. "Am I supposed to park my car three feet away from his car and cause a hindrance to other vehicles moving out of the kiosk instead? "He even challenged a bystander, who sided with me, to a fight and accused him of siding with a woman so I asked the bystander to let me handle it as I didn't want to get the other party into any trouble. "The cabby even told me I should pay him for his time that was wasted; I told him, instead, that he should stay put while I call the police but the quarrelsome man drove off instead. "My daughter was so frightened she was crying in the car. "Is this the kind of cab drivers we want on the road? "What if he lords it over a meek woman or a tourist? "Will let Transcab know about this and hope they do something. "I feels people complain too much over trivial stuffs sometimes, but this incident is ridiculous and totally unnecessary."
