When talking about car rivalry, most enthusiasts will think of Evos versus WRXs or 3 Series versus C-Class. These battles get pretty intense with manufacturers doing their best to be better on the road and on the track. While not really obvious in our local context, Ford's Mustang and Chevrolet's Camaro have been at war with each other since 1966. That said, General Motors maintains that it feels the rivalry is a very healthy one as it is 'driving force for constant improvement'. So with the Ford Mustang's 50th birthday around the corner, General Motors sent a happy birthday card starring the new Camaro Z/28 with the caption - "Here's to another 50 years of rivalry. Your friend, Camaro". We applaud the classy move by Chevrolet!

Chevrolet has confirmed it will stop selling cars across Europe at the end of 2015. The announcement came days after GM CEO Dan Akerson expressed his wish to put more distance between Germany-based Opel and the Bowtie brand. When the brand was launched in Europe in 2005, it focused on selling low-cost cars that were a little more than just rebadged, South Korean-built Daewoos. The business model was not popular and the company was hit hard by the economic crisis in Europe few years ago. Chevrolet tried to move upmarket and woo European buyers by focusing on its American heritage, but customers were not convinced by the company's new image and sales have been lingering at under 200,000 units with no signs of improvement. The final nail in Chevrolet's coffin came from Opel, GM's main European division. Most of the two companies' products are aimed at the same target audience and GM believes that shuttering Chevrolet will help Opel to return to profitability in its home market after years of crippling losses. Iconic Chevrolet models like the Corvette and the Camaro will continue to be imported with a Bowtie emblem but they will likely be distributed through Opel dealerships. Similarly, Opel dealerships will honor Chevrolet warranties and provide owners with parts and service. It is unsure how many jobs will be lost once Chevy's European arm shuts down.

Point a kid or teenager to the Chevrolet Camaro and they will probably just scream "Bumblebee!" Thanks to GM's association with the billion dollar Transformers trilogy (S$3.38 Billion in box office receipts to be exact), the retro Beetle was replaced with the fifth generation Camaro concept, and modified versions of it appeared in the sequels - much to the hatred of hardcore Transformers fans. But hey at least the sfx was awesome. The Camaro was envisioned as a competitor to the legendary Ford Mustang. But compared to the American stallion, the bowtie did not fare well in sales or recognition as a muscle car in its first year. Production commenced in September 1966, and the Camaro survived four generations until the model went out of production in 2002. After eight years of hibernation, the Camaro name was revived with the fifth generation (or post Transformers generation) armed with a new design and platform. I have to admit after years of viewing the mustangs, corvettes and challengers - it was refreshing to see the sharp and striking looking Camaro. Not to mention the larger than life heroic portrayal in the live-action Transformers trilogy aided the nameplate, especially with the younger audience. I am no expert in muscle cars, but if there is anyone out there who knows his muscle cars more than anyone else - it could be is none other than the self-confessed auto nut, Jay Leno. Sometimes in life, when you are looking for something or someone, you end up finding something else. That is quite natural as I strongly believe it has happened to many people at a point of their life. It happened to an American man who was searching for his birth mother and unexpectedly ended up with a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS that has been in the family for many years. Zach S from Virginia, United States; first saw the Camaro RS/SS in 2006 when he met his birth mother in Arizona after years of searching. During the meeting, both mother and son shared many stories and pictures. When Zach mentioned to his mother that he was into cars, his mother told him that his grandma's car was stored in the back yard under a tarpaulin. Under the canvas sheet was the 1967 Chevy Camaro RS that has been stored in the harsh conditions of the Arizona desert for more than twenty years. According to Zach, it was like a time capsule. The car was purchased new by Zach's grandmother from a dealer in Los Angeles. She ordered the car with the RS/SS package. It came with the RS package trimming and it was fitted with a 5.7-litre V8 engine that delivers around 295bhp. The car also came with a rare bench seat, automatic column shifters, power steering and hidden headlights. When Zach's mother passed away in 2008, he asked his brother whether if he could buy the vehicle but his brother was not willing to part with it at that moment. Two years later, Zach got a telephone call from his brother who said that he was ready to sell the Camaro to Zach. And so, Zach hired a company to ship the Camaro to his home in Virginia. Zach's grandmother have kept all forms of documentation of the car in a diary and he found out that the Camaro has never been titled outside of California. Zach has all the documents in the diary and it also included several other things such as a letter from the dealership's salesperson thanking her for buying the car and two speeding tickets from the same policeman in the same month. Zach intends to get the car fixed and drive it around for a few years before passing it down to his sister's children in order for the family's future generations to cherish and enjoy. 16 years after his beloved 1969 Camaro was stolen, Edward Neeley located his long lost car by chance while searching the internet for a car to replace it. Neeley calls the fact he found the car, which he had first purchased 30 years ago at the age of 18, "divine intervention". Although it's great to hear a story about a stolen car being reunited with an owner that loved it, this story isn't without a downside. What Neeley called "divine intervention" would likely be given a different name by the Camaro's current owner Brent Dockery. Dockery purchased the car for $16,000 4 years ago on Ebay without having any knowledge that the car was stolen. Since then he has spent a considerable amount of money ($10,000), time and effort restoring the Camaro. Below is a picture of how the Camaro looks like currently. The two men are currently trying to reach an agreement regarding the parts and money Dockery put into the car while he had it. So far it has been difficult, but Dockery concedes that the car will return home after 16 long years once the men find a way to settle the matter. Neeley understandably is overjoyed at the impending return of his missing Camaro after such a long time. Dockery plans to track down the person he purchased the car from in an attempt to recoup some of his losses.

A yellow flag at two upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races will generate some green to fight breast cancer. Chevrolet will make a US$200 donation to the American Cancer Society for each caution lap that a specially themed pink Camaro SS pace car runs in upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway. The Atlanta race begins 7:30 p.m. Sunday (televised on ESPN). The Richmond race is 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 (televised on ABC). Chevrolet's commitment to battling breast cancer won't stop on the track. In its centennial year, the brand is partnering with the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative leading up to October, which is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Chevy's Nov. 3 birthday. Other Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events will be announced later. "For 100 years, Chevy has been helping people along the journey of life in countless ways," said Alan Batey, Chevrolet vice president, Sales and Service. "But as we all know, sometimes life's journeys take detours or end too early. Together with our race fans, Chevrolet wants to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer, more birthdays and longer journeys." Currently, Chevy driver Jimmie Johnson (No. 48) is tied for the lead in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points. Johnson is the defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and winner of five consecutive championships.
