  4. Canada Pension Plan Investment Board ("CPPIB") and Pavilion Group ("Pavilion") today announced the creation of a joint venture to invest in Pavilion Damansara Heights, a mixed-use development project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As part of the joint venture, CPPIB will commit approximately MYR485 million (C$170 million) for a 49% interest in the development. Representing CPPIB's first direct real estate investment in Malaysia, Pavilion Damansara Heights is a freehold development integrating corporate towers, luxury residences and a retail galleria. The development is located in one of the most prime and affluent locations in Kuala Lumpur, less than 10km from Petronas Twin Towers. It is well connected by a network of highways and strategically served by two upcoming MRT stations within walking distance to the development. "We are pleased to make our first direct real estate investment in Southeast Asia through this joint venture with one of Malaysia's most well-respected developers, the Pavilion Group," said Jimmy Phua, Managing Director and Head of Real Estate Investments Asia. "This joint venture fits well with our investment strategy as it provides us with a great opportunity to work with a smart partner in a high-quality real estate asset that will provide attractive risk-adjusted returns over the long term." Pavilion is an experienced local developer of commercial and residential projects and is one of the strongest and most well-established Malaysian retail developers. 6. The recent Tokyo Auto Show and the North American International Auto Show are considered by many to be two of the biggest auto events and at times these two could overshadow other not so well known auto exhibitions. At the 2013 Montreal International Auto Show, where not many were talking or reporting about, Honda showcased a promising concept car that was inspired by fixed-gear bicycles. The concept car you see here is simply known as the Gear Concept. The two door concept shows a highly stylish design and is equalised with levels of practicality. The design of the car also opens the option for future customisation. Honda has stated that the concept was inspired by a fixed-gear bicycle which results in a design that's both simple and utilitarian but at the same time it is also customisable, connected and full of personality. The sub-compact city car concept is targeted at the Gen-Y market segment. Dave Marek, design director at Honda R&D Americas, mentioned that the Gear Concept is fun and affordable, plus it will offer "everything that young urban buyers will want in a car." The Gear Concept looks smaller than the Honda Fit/Jazz and it is said to be up against other rival models such as the Fiat 500, the Citroen DS3 and also the Mini. Nothing was mention about the concept's engine and drive train or whether will the company have any plans to put it into production in the near future. But whatever it is; Honda, who is known for its stylish designs and good build quality, should just build this promising and stylish concept car.
  7. Unker Sam running out of countries to whack? 《联合早报网》 (编辑:王秘) Source: http://realtime.zaobao.com.sg/2012/09/jg120920_015.shtml *** Now angmo version: State Department: No secret plan to invade Canada By Ian Johnston, NBC News The U.S. and Mexico are not secretly planning to invade Canada, a State Department spokeswoman confirmed to laughter during a daily press briefing. 8. I've got a bit of business news to report. Looks like BMW has big plans for its 'i' sub-branding. The German automaker has recently invested in one Coulomb Technologies, a company based in California that provides electric-vehicle charging stations and software. Besides BMW, Coulomb technologies has development agreements with General Motors, Ford, Nissan and the luxury hybrid maker, Fisker. Coulomb's ChargePoint operates EV charging stations in more than 14 countries, including the US and provide EV customers, dealers and manufacturers with a range of cloud-based services. The services include charging station locations, payments processing and monitoring of energy use and costs. As you might be aware BMW will be launching its "i" sub brand that will focus solely on EV's starting next year starting with the battery-powered i3 city car. Interestingly among the latest investors in Coulomb is Toyota TsushO, a member of the Toyota Group. Recently BMW and Toyota signed a MOU to co-develop cars, so is a Toyota based i3 or a EV Yaris or iQ on the way? Time will tell.

  10. Back in September last year, there was a news report about thirteen supercars impounded in British Columbia, Canada for their involvement in street racing. The drivers of these cars have to pay a $196 fine plus an impound fee. On top of that, they might get their driving license suspended. Apparently, an eye witness informed the local police about these drivers late night activities. Two of the cars would block off a stretch of a road and the rest would do the racing. Some of the drivers involved were students from an exclusive boarding school and some did not even have driving licenses. In Canada, there are strict laws regarding street racing and dangerous driving and if found guilty of these charges, the authorities have the right to confiscate the cars and sell them off. Before I continue, here is the list of supercars that were impounded. 3 Lamborghini Gallardo 2 Nissan GTR 2 Maserati GranTurismo 1 Audi R8 1 Aston Martin DB9 1 Ferrari 599 1 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG 1 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Just after the impoundment was made, the local police have slapped them with only traffic charges (fines and a temporary seizure) as there was little evidence. But five of the car owners have been indicted due to evidence from an eye witness. The British Columbia Civil Forfeiture Office have decided to take further action by commencing in a civil action to confiscate the cars under Canada

  12. Owning or seeing a car that is beyond 20 years of age is something rare on this island and even if you get to see one, it would probably be in a poor condition. In a small Canadian town there are two 20 year-old cars that were left untouched. Want to know more? Read on. In Oakville, Ontario there is a BMW dealership that has been abandoned for more than two decades. Inside its showroom lie two mint-looking BMW cars, frozen in time. Local reports showed that this particular dealership had its licence revoked, for unknown reasons, in 1988. The company shifted to Toronto and set up a new dealership there which closed in 2002. The owner seems not interested in selling the place, including its inventory and had left everything behind intact. Located inside the showroom are two cars, an E28 5-series and an E24 635 csi, in rather mint condition. Probably some parts have given way, such as rubber seals and other mechanical parts. An interesting find was that the 635 csi has only double digits on its odometer. The interior design of the showroom and the furniture left inside also suggests that they were something from the 1980s. And that is not all; around the back is the workshop left behind similar to the showroom. Inventory, tools and parts remained completely untouched. It is as though as this is the place where time has forgot. Photo credit : Jalopnik
  13. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...928-302037.html Youth unremorseful at being nabbed for speeding above 200kmh VANCOUVER, Canada - A group of young Chinese drivers, stopped by police on charges of speeding, have claimed that the Westerners were jealous of Chinese driving high-powered cars. Witnesses claimed the group, driving Maseratis, Lamborghinis and Mercedes, were travelling at speeds upwards 200kmh, according to a Vancouver Sun report (see pictures below). The report said the police caught up with the convoy and impounded all the vehicles, which were worth more than CAD$2 million (S$2.5 million) in total. However the drivers, all under the age of 21, were only individually charged with a CAD$196 ticket and penalty points for driving without due consideration for others. Canadian police's traffic services superintendent Norm Gaumont said that there was a lot of disappointment that the drivers only faced CAD$196 fines. But there was not enough evidence to charge them with the more serious offence of dangerous driving. Said Gaumont: "We don't have police officers who observed the offence and we don't have lasers and radars that have the speeds. "We have to really depend on third-party individuals who had called in" According to the report, the incident began when the police received multiple calls about expensive vehicles that were racing down a highway. 13 flashy cars in total were seen driving at high speeds - a Ferrari, three Lamborghinis, three Nissans, two Maseratis, two Mercedes an Audi and an Aston Martin. The report also mentioned that at one point two drivers appeared to be driving side by side to hold up traffic and free up racing space for other cars. Six drivers still had their novice licences and only one driver was the registered owner of the vehicle he was driving. After their cars were impounded the drivers appeared to be in a good mood. One even asked if he could have his car towed to his home because he had a trip planned the next day. Reports in Chinese media recounted that none of the drivers showed any regret or remorse. One couple was seen smiling and taking pictures in front of their cars while the police was towing them away. Impounded cars worth $2.5 million - What happens if this happen in Singapore ? Will our local "Ah Seah Kia" behave the same way ?????

  15. China rejects pork imports from U.S., Canada Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:47 AM ET BEIJING (Reuters) - China has rejected shipments of pork kidney from the United States and of spare ribs from Canada after finding traces of a banned growth agent in them, in the latest volley of cross-border accusations over product quality. The Xinhua news agency cited the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) as saying that the 18.4-tonne shipment of frozen kidneys and the 24-tonne shipment of frozen pork ribs had been returned to the exporters by local quarantine officials in southern Guangdong province. The growth agent ractopamine, commonly used in the United States, is at the centre of negotiations between U.S. and Chinese officials over the pork trade. China has banned use of ractopamine and refuses to import pork containing it. Richard Raymond, the U.S. Agriculture Department's undersecretary for food safety, said on Thursday following meetings with the AQSIQ that he hoped Beijing could change its stance on ractopamine if Codex Alimentarius, an international food safety body, could endorse tolerance levels for it. China has highlighted several quality concerns over U.S. products in recent months, in apparent response to complaints in Washington about the safety of Chinese exports ranging from toys to toothpaste. Beijing is also taking steps to clean up its own manufacturing sector, whose reputation has been tarnished by recent product recalls, including for lead-tainted toys. Separately, Xinhua said that authorities had reprimanded dozens of factories in eastern Zhejiang province after finding that 40 percent of the children's clothing they produced did not meet quality standards. The district where the factories are located, in Huzhou city, makes one fourth of the country's children's garments, Xinhua said. It cited the local quality supervision administration as saying their "quality index" was at its lowest since 2003. The garments had problems with their dyes, fiber content and stitching, Xinhua said, adding that none of the companies involved exported their products. The inspection was part of a nationwide campaign to improve product quality and food safety in the wake of the recent scandals, it said.
