It finally hit me that JB has finally reached "mall saturation point". The theme park is desserted!!! Crowd was very thin. Many shop units weren't even taken up!!! They said it's not fully open yet, my guess is the mall is just too big to be filled up. There were 2 floors entirely empty. Not to say the ground or 2nd floor are entirely taken. So some may think it's still work in progress, I went on a weekday but hardly see any contractors working to complete any unfinished/vacant units. So I deduce it's gonna remain like this or worst - current tenants calling it quit. Even Paradigm Mall is quite empty, but at least it look decent. Well, I wonder how these malls gonna survive in 6months or 1 year. Will see.

JAKARTA — Indonesia plans to move its capital to Borneo island from Jakarta, a crowded, polluted city on the north coast of Java island which is slowly sinking, the president said on Monday (Aug 26). President Joko Widodo said it was urgent that relocation plans commence, although the capital would not physically begin to be relocated until 2024 The new capital, which does not yet have a name, would be located in Borneo's East Kalimantan province, near the existing Samarinda City and the port city of Balikpapan, important for coal and oil shipments. "It is a strategic location at the centre of Indonesia, close to growing urban area," Mr Widodo told a news conference at the Jakarta state palace. Mr Widodo said moving the capital would cost 466 trillion rupiah (S$45 billion), of which the state would fund 19 per cent, with the rest from public-private partnerships and private investment. The price tag includes new government offices and homes for about 1.5 million civil servants. The president had earlier this month proposed to parliament to move the country's administrative centre to Kalimantan, the Indonesian side of Borneo island, a region known for rainforests, coal mines, orangutans and home to just over 16 million people. Environmentalist groups, however, have expressed fears that building a new capital amid swaths of forests in Borneo could imperil the habitats of endangered wildlife. The jungle island is home to numerous endangered species, including orangutans, sun bears and long-nosed monkeys. Jakarta is one of the world's most densely populated cities, home to more than 10 million people and three times that number when counting those who live in surrounding towns. The city is prone to floods and is sinking due to subsidence, caused by millions of residents using up groundwater. Mr Widodo said the burden on Jakarta and Java island was already too heavy, with the island home to 54 per cent of the 260 million population and generating 58 per cent of Indonesia's gross domestic product. The government will submit a bill, and the result of a feasibility study, to parliament soon to obtain approval for the new capital, Mr Widodo said. Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said land acquisition would start in 2020. Indonesia is not the first South-east Asian country to move its capital. In 2005, Myanmar's ruling generals moved to Naypyidaw, a town in hills some 320km away from the colonial era capital, Yangon. In the 1990s, Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad built an administrative capital in Putrajaya, about 33km from Kuala Lumpur. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/...ry_555894.html LAST year, there were 188 road fatalities, or a road death every other day, and driving along Lim Chu Kang Road on Monday morning, it was not difficult for me to see why. The speed limit of the road was 70kmh, and as I drove along, big trucks and lorries flashed past me, dangerously above the speed limit. Drivers who speed do not realise that they are part of a killing machine. Speeding is a fatal menace and should be much more policed than it is now. During my 45-minute journey from Kranji to Suntec City, I did not spot a single police patrol car or Traffic Police motorcycle. Speed traps are too few and far between, allowing irresponsible drivers to bolt and swerve on expressways unpunished. Alongside public campaigns on road safety, there should be more traffic policing vehicles to arrest the immediate problem of dangerous speedsters. It is also appalling to see the types of vehicles allowed on our expressways, and the manner in which they are driven: small motorcycles with unprotected riders in slippers zipping in and out of traffic, and lorries loaded with men and material zooming past speed limits. Singapore has stringent standards in licensing drivers, but such standards are futile if we let law-breaking speedsters threaten the lives of other road users and do not police such dangerous drivers. Fines and imprisonment may not be enough of a disincentive. The punishment which will effectively deter speeding is caning. And if a driver's speeding is responsible for a road user's death, then hanging is a fair punishment for killing someone. Ivy Singh-Lim (Mrs)
