Among the half a dozen or so soon-to-expire leases is one held by Automobile Megamart, which operates an eight-storey complex housing more than 100 new car companies, used car dealerships and parallel importers. Its 30-year lease runs out in 2026, and stakeholders have set in motion an appeal for an extension. Another affected property is the Opel showroom held by the Alpine group. Like all others interviewed, Alpine Group managing director Albert Pang said he intends to apply for an extension. "After Leng Kee, this is Singapore's motor belt," Mr Pang said, referring to the Leng Kee-Alexandra Road car showroom district. "Of course we want to stay if we can." Directly opposite his showroom is Sime Darby's Performance Premium Selection used car complex, which recently had its lease extended till 2040.

  3. Hi all, i just want to get attention from people that i realise a lot of direct buyer is actually same person who selling a lot of cars and same contact as other dealer. The reason is to manipulate the market to make people think that the used car price high sky is to blame direct seller who want to sell their car at high price infact the truth is dealer jack up the price, worse is the used car peice depreciation is higher than the current new car price even at $60-65k coe price tag. They realise that people who dun afford downpayment for new car will narrow down to used car search n hence dealer unethically appreciate all their assets that they bought in at low price previously by manipulating market cause they know ppl who does not have a choice will go for used car It is up to the buyer now to think twice n make clear calculation cause if u make purchase used car will always cause the used car market at high price due to dealer think no matter how high the depreciation u dun afford new car downpayment u come to used car n u pay something that is not worth moreover will need to pay for repair cost if the used car went wrong. Overall in actual the used car depreciation will be a lot higher than the new car. example new altis 10-11k depreciation 2006 altis 9-12k depreciation haven count the repair cost n the risk that the car might involve several accident i want to urge the dealer stop manipulate the market price, also sgcarmart do not allow not genuine direct owner to post their car sales under direct owner advertisement.
  4. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/manhattan-motor-in-turf-city-shuts-down-car-buyers-may-lose-tens-of-thousands-of?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&xtor=CS1-10#link_time=1512106715 Manhattan Motor in Turf City shuts down, car buyers may lose tens of thousands of dollars Manhattan Motor closed shop after leaving more than 20 buyers without cars which they have paid for. SINGAPORE - The names have changed, but the story is the same. Another motor firm has closed shop after leaving more than 20 buyers without cars which they have paid for. Manhattan Motor in Turf City, a sole proprietorship owned by used car dealer Lee Kum Kuen, had sold the cars to several buyers in the last month or so, collected the money, but did not transfer the ownership to the buyers. The finance or leasing companies which the cars are still registered with then proceeded to repossess the cars. Dentist Daniel Chan, 34, was among those affected. He bought a used Volkswagen Tiguan in November and collected the car on Nov 6. On Nov 15, he tried to renew road tax for the car, but could not. He contacted the Land Transport Authority, and was told that the vehicle had not been transferred to him. The car has since been repossessed, and Manhattan has closed shop. Asked why he did not buy from authorised agent Volkswagen Centre Singapore, which has a used car division, he said: "I didn't want to spend too much on a car. The (Manhattan) price was right. I did an internet search on the company and there were no bad reviews. "I've bought two used cars before, and never had a problem," he added. He bought the six-year-old car for $70,000 and paid $50,000 in cash. Volkswagen Centre Singapore said it does not have a similar car in stock currently, but estimated that one would cost around $50,000. Police said they have received "more than 20" reports from consumers regarding Manhattan Motor. "We are looking into the matter," a spokesman said. Auto Lease Pte Ltd, one of the companies that repossessed the cars sold by Manhattan Motor, had already towed back seven cars. "Four are still at large," said director Anthony Lim. Mr Lim said such cases have become "very common". "You don't need a licence to be a motor dealer," he said. "Buyers just have to be vigilant." The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) said it has received 14 complaints against Manhattan Motor since January, with 11 filed in the last two weeks. Executive Director Loy York Jiun said: "The complaints were primarily about the lack of transfer of ownership of the car to the consumer's name. "Some consumers feedback that despite having made full payment to the car dealer, their cars were repossessed as payment was not made to finance company. "Case is of the view that collection of payment by the dealer with no intention to fulfil their obligations under the contract is highly unethical and it is an unfair practice under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act. Consumers can seek recourse under the Act." But Case noted that “options are more limited in the event where a business ceases operations”. Manhattan Motor has not been contactable. Happening more and more often these days. Im sure its hurting all the other Parallel Importers as people lose faith in smaller dealers. what do you think can be done to stop this?
  5. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/debt-collectors-called-in-after-car-deal-turns-sour Mr Yee, 36, bought a Chevrolet Optra from Gold Automobiles in February, but it broke down a few weeks later after suffering problems such as faulty air-conditioning and a defective car key. Mr Yee said he bought it so he could drive his 60-year-old mother between their Ang Mo Kio flat and his aunt's Jurong home, as his mother is caring for his newborn cousin. He had the car towed back to Gold for repairs. "I haven't seen it since," he said. "To my horror, I realised two months later that the car ownership had not been transferred to me."
  6. Recently, I read from The Straits Times website that a Housing Board carpark at Bukit Merah estate is partly rented to a car dealer because it was underused. According to the report, the arrangement is the first of its kind and is extremely rare. HDB agreed to do so as the take-up rate for season parking is low there. It is indeed a clever move by HDB to generate income from a under-utilized carpark. Come to think of it, there are also other HDB carparks in Singapore which are underused. An example is the muti-storey carpark above, which is situated along Bedok Reservoir Road. The top level is often left empty, even late in the night. Other than renting to car dealers, the top floor of the carpark can be utilized in other ways. For example, the Residents
