Do you enjoy seeing entitled cyclists regret their actions? If so, watch the latest footage of that cyclist who hopped on a car’s bonnet, fresh off the press! What happened? On 2nd June 2023 at East Coast Road, cyclist Nicolette Tan Shi-En, 31 had a fight with driver Elaine Michele Ow, 49. The situation went viral as a short clip was circulating from an outside POV (point of view) showing the cyclist hopping onto the car’s bonnet. But here’s the real POV up close and personal! More personal than I would like to be honest but oh well, the lengths we go to entertain you guys. The video starts with the cyclist saying something about how the car was not supposed to overtake her. I can’t quite hear her words clearly so if one of you can comment what she’s saying that would be great. I would also like to say that you just know she’s a Karen just from her voice and body language. Of course, that's a generalisation but I am right for this occasion. The cyclist then goes off behind the camera and hits the car, audible through a loud bump picked up by the camera. Also mildly audible is her complaining, as well as her continuing to hit the car. This is also evidenced by the driver shouting “Don’t do that! Don’t ****ing touch my car!” Kudos to her for keeping somewhat cool up to that point. Ms Tan (the cyclist/Karen) also decided to call the police, before coming back into view to block the driver, even after the light turns green.The honking of other cars behind can be heard as her mouth gapes, looking as if deeply offended that the drivers behind were not alright with being held up. At this point, Ms Ow (the driver) has had enough and decided to drive off. Nicolette decides it is a good idea to keep blocking a moving car, and asks “What are you doing?” This picture sums up my thoughts: Ms Tan also decides it is a good idea to hop on the bonnet while the car is moving. She clearly had not thought this through as when the car kept moving, she exclaimed “NOOOO!” and “WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?”. While repeatedly slamming the windshield, no less. Because continuing to damage the person’s car, that you voluntarily jumped on, is a good way to convince them to stop moving. Elaine pulls into the lobby of a mall, where Nicolette can finally get off. However, she continues to hold on to a broken windshield wiper that she broke while holding on to the car. The self-endangerment is astounding. The video ends with people off camera telling Elaine not to drive “like that”, as if she can do something about the person still holding on to the car. According to the Facebook post, Elaine the driver was charged with “rashly endangering the personal safety of others for driving forward while someone lay on the bonnet of her vehicle.” Nicolette the cyclist was charged with “rashly endangering the personal safety of others by laying on the bonnet of a vehicle while in the middle of the road and obstructing the driver’s view.” She also faces another charge of obstructing others in a public way by blocking a vehicle from moving forward. Both women were offered bail at $10,000, and both women stated they intend to seek lawyers. If convicted of rashly endangering the personal safety of others, they each face a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to S$2,500, or both. Meanwhile, the penalty for the charge of obstructing others in a public way is a fine of up to S$1,000. Online chatter Netizens were frustrated at cyclists taking up road space also exhibiting such behaviour, as this is not the first time such a situation has occurred. On 8 April, 10 A.M, a cyclist at Clementi forgot his place on the road and tried to pull a very stupid manoeuvre. The cyclist, who I presume is named Clementi with the entitled way he was riding, successfully cut off the car on his lane during a green light for vehicles. However, he was less successful in the opposing lane, as a Suzuki Vitara was unable to stop in time and sent this cyclist flying. Let’s watch that again, it was pretty funny. A pedestrian crossing was also right beside the cyclist when he attempted this, so this accident could have been easily avoided if he had some patience and courtesy. But now he suffers some injuries, physically and to his ego. Hopefully the latter scars, for everyone’s sake. We can all learn from this runner on how to be unbothered by the chaos and negativity in life, to carry on and remain focused in the midst of uncertainty and adversity. I make it sound like a car almost crashed into her but hey, there was certainly a crash. What happened? On 2nd May 2023 at Woodlands Ring Road, a cyclist crashed into a motorcyclist turning right to enter a car park. Bro was zooming. If he did brake he might want to check the brakes work properly. There was no sign of jerking and it was a smooth ride to hit the motorcyclist. This led to the cyclist coming off his bike and tumbling onto the motorcyclist, who was knocked down in turn. Both parties were able to get up, although there is no audio to determine what words they exchanged afterwards. However, the star of the show to me was the runner when all this unfolded just to her right. The camera footage is too blurry to tell if she turned her head or not but I assume a bike and motorcycle knocking into each other would make a fair bit of noise. However, she remained unfazed, and continued running at a steady rhythm. If she was wearing an earpiece I want to know what model because the noise cancelling on that must be insane. Online chatter People noted the runner continuing on her way, with some wondering if she knew what was going on at all. Ah bengs are just YPs who never grew out of it because they peaked in their youth and were never more loved or relevant since then. Therefore they continue to act like they did when they were young in order to cling to their scraps of “respect” and “adoration”. Because how else can you be as free and petty as this guy? What happened? A camvehicle had the misfortune of encountering an Ah Beng PAB rider on Yuan Ching Road last Sunday, 22 April. We can see in the footage that the Ah Beng was going fairly slow on the road. The camvehicle lightly honked twice while at a decent distance from the PAB. The camvehicle overtook the PAB before stopping for a bus. And that’s the last we see of the PAB. SIKE! The PAB Ah Beng shows up once more after two minutes! The camvehicle stops for 30 seconds in front of a red light and the Ah Beng uses his PAB to block the camvehicle. The Ah Beng gets off and tells the camvehicle to come out, as well as a bunch of stuff in Chinese to taunt the driver. After a while (for some reason not immediately) the driver calls the police in front of the Ah Beng who remains undeterred. Ah Beng gives the car’s front bumper a mild shove, at which point the driver has enough and continues on his way, calling the Ah Beng a CB to the police (yes he was still on call). So bro was fast enough to chase a vehicle down for 2 minutes, but couldn't go fast enough to not be a hindrance to traffic? This entire thing could've been prevented if he was just pedalling faster or NOT ON THE ROAD AT ALL. I must say I find Ah Beng’s determination impressive, if only for the wrong reasons. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has accepted the Active Mobility Advisory Panel's (AMAP) fifth review of the rules for road cyclists, which was submitted on Oct. 1. The review involved studying practices overseas, conducting public consultations and focus groups, as well as a survey. MOT stated in an Oct. 20 media release that the review was "timely" in light of the increased popularity of cycling recently, which has led to more interactions between cyclists and other road users, and in turn sparked concerns about road safety. According to Melvin Yong, the Executive Secretary of the National Transport Workers' Union, there were 572 traffic accidents involving bicycles in 2020, an increase of about 25 per cent from 459 accidents in 2019. Limiting cycling groups Currently, cyclists are allowed to ride in twos on the road, provided that they are not riding on a single-lane road, or in a bus lane during bus lane hours. AMAP has recommended that this should be allowed to continue, for cyclists' safety and visibility, which the government has agreed to. The government has also decided to adopt one of AMAP's recommendations to limit cycling groups to a maximum length of five bicycles due to space constraints on Singapore's roads. This means a maximum of five cyclists if the group is riding single-file, or a maximum of 10 cyclists if the group is riding two abreast. This rule will be imposed from Jan. 1, 2022. The government has also agreed with AMAP's list of best practices for cycling groups. While these are not mandatory, they should be followed where possible: Cycling groups to keep a safe distance of approximately two lamp posts (or around 30m) between groups, and Motorists to have a minimum distance of 1.5m when passing cyclists on roads. Increased fines Enforcement action will also be stepped up against errant cyclists. From Jan. 1, 2022, the composition fines for such individuals will be raised from S$75 to S$150. For more serious cases, the cyclist may be charged in court and face a fine of up to S$1,000 and/or a jail term of up to three months for the first offence. For a second or subsequent offence, the cyclist may face a fine of up to S$2,000 and/or a jail term of up to six months. Not the time to introduce licensing of cyclists The AMAP also studied whether whether cyclists should be made to register their bicycles and get licenses to ride on the road — a topic that has been raised over the years, and was brought up by former Temasek CEO Ho Ching in April. AMAP said in its review that there is "little evidence" overseas that such efforts are effective in deterring errant cycling and improving road safety, and described it as a "resource-intensive regime". Additionally, these measures could also hinder the take-up of cycling in Singapore, and would "disproportionately affect more vulnerable groups of cyclists, including seniors and individuals who rely on bicycles for work and commute". According to the media release, the government concurs that licensing and registration of cyclists and bicycles respectively "should not be introduced at this juncture". Reiterating AMAP's statement, it said: "Besides affecting the majority of law-abiding cyclists, there is little evidence from overseas case studies and Singapore’s past experience that licensing of cyclists is effective in promoting road safety or deterring errant cyclists." It also acknowledged AMAP’s recommendation that all cyclists should be strongly encouraged to purchase third-party liability insurance to protect themselves from potential financial liabilities. The government stated that it will continue working with insurance providers and cycling groups to promote the take up of third-party liability insurance. In the meantime, to promote road safety and raise awareness of the new rules and guidelines, the government will continue to partner stakeholders in its public education and outreach efforts.

With so many videos of serious car accidents circulating around lately, you would think that drivers will learn to pay more attention on the road. Well apparently not for this reckless BMW driver who obviously has no concern about safe driving. Watch the 31-seconds video here and try not to rage: What happened? According to the caption of the video, the incident happened at Sembawang Road at around midnight last night. In the video, we can clearly see that the light has turned red at the 0:11 mark. Drivers and riders that can be seen in the video had either stopped or were slowing down when approaching the traffic junction. With the green light in pedestrian’s favour, the cyclist started to make his/her way across the road as would any of us. Just when the cyclist made about a quarter of his/her way across the road, SEVEN (7) WHOLE SECONDS after the lights had turned red, a BMW can be seen speeding on the middle lane into the frame of the video with NO ATTEMPT to slow down or stop. What the hell? Tragedy Strikes The speeding car smashed into the unsuspecting cyclist before coming to an abrupt halt. The high-speed impact sent the poor cyclist flying from his bicycle and onto the cold hard floor nearby. Yes, you read that right - BEHIND A FREIGHT TRUCK. And not that it changes anything, but the three cyclists were cycling in lane two instead of keeping to the left-most lane LOL. To be frank, it doesn't seem very dangerous...until the truck has to perform an e-brake for some reason. That's when matters will take a turn for the worse. There is an exceptionally high chance that the cyclists would rear-end the truck, either because of: 1) their inability to react in time due to the mere 1-second distance away from the truck; and/or 2) the bicycle's braking capability. A cyclist entering the CTE tunnel suddenly falls off his bike and onto the path of oncoming vehicles but manages to avoid causing an accident. Is this the work of a higher presence in the universe? 😱 A short clip of a cyclist cycling in the opposite direction inside a CTE tunnel shows exactly why there should be stricter enforcement of cycling restrictions and regulations. The clip starts with the camcar cruising down the tunnel, when the car in front of him suddenly brakes. It is then revealed that there is a cyclist in the tunnel going in the opposite direction. To avoid being hit by the car in front of the camcar, the cyclist suddenly stops as well, which causes him to accidentally fall off his bike. This gives the camcar a shock as he stops just in time to avoid hitting the cyclist, who immediately gets up and walks off. According to the driver, he claims that after this incident, he spots a second cyclist further down trying to enter the same tunnel as well. Are cyclists allowed on expressways and tunnels? While it is no surprise that cyclists are allowed to ride on the roads (given that they follow the rules and the proper code of conduct while doing so), it is often unclear if they are allowed to ride in tunnels and expressways. According to the Road Traffic Act - Road Traffic (Expressway Traffic) Rules, any bicycle that is equipped with an electric motor and may be propelled by human power or by the electric motor with which it is equipped, or by both, is not allowed in road tunnels and expressway tunnels. Additionally, according to the Road Traffic Act - Road Traffic (Expressways - Excluded Vehicles) Rules, users riding bicycles, tricycles, or trishaws are not allowed on expressways, including the KPE, MCE, and CTE tunnels. This is because the expressways are meant for other motorists travelling at higher speeds, and cycling on these roads may cause fatal traffic accidents as drivers attempt to avoid hitting them. Cycling on expressways is considered an offence in Singapore and can result in a fine of up to $2,000 or a jail term of up to 6 months, or both. So, the short answer to that question is no, cyclists are not allowed on expressways and tunnels. Current cycling regulations in Singapore With the Active Mobility Act (AMA) in place since 2018, it dictates a set of rules and code of conduct to enable safer sharing of public paths among various users. The active mobility devices governed under this act includes bicycles, power-assisted bicycles (PAB), motorised and non-motorised personal mobility devices (PMDs) and personal mobility aids (PMAs). NGL, I felt very heartened after witnessing what this father did for his family to ensure their safety: What Happened? A father stopped his bicycle to "block" oncoming traffic so that his family could cross the zebra crossing safely. However, the cam car driver he blocked wasn't too happy with his thoughtful act towards his family and decided to upload this video to social media and publicise his act. A Responsible Parent That's what I think. I would say it is entirely fair for the father to do what he did to safeguard his family's safety. Furthermore, that's a zebra-crossing. So regardless, any car would have to stop for the family to cross the zebra crossing. An incident at Mandai road resulted from a cyclist failing to keep to his prescribed lane, and then managing to rear-end a taxi and almost causing a chain of events that could have ended badly for the cyclist. The significant inconvenience that this cyclist caused simply because he was too irresponsible to abide by road regulations is ridiculous. It does seem like he doesn’t value his own life as well, given that not only did this inconvenience other road users, but definitely put himself in a lot of danger as well. While driving along Dunearn Road towards the City, the cam car driver encountered a cyclist clad in a pink shirt and a black backpack cycling in the middle of the road. Obviously, the cyclist woke up that day and chose not to give a damn by deciding to cycle in the dead of night without any lights or helmet. From a distance, the cam car driver started to flash his high beam at the cyclist to warn other motorists of his presence while also signalling to the cyclist that he (the cam car) was approaching. As the cam car driver closed up behind the cyclist, he started spamming his horn at the cyclist to show his displeasure towards the cyclist. The cyclist responded with some hand gestures to the cam car driver, likely indicating to the driver to go ahead and use lane 1 to overtake him. It was at this point that the cam car driver had enough and decided to give the cyclist a piece of his mind: In all honesty, the cyclist deserved to be reprimanded for his actions. If he chose to cycle on the road in the dead of night, the least he could do was to wear a helmet and attach some lights to the bicycle. As a result, the cam car driver sounded his honk at the cyclist to alert him of his reckless manoeuvre. I don't even know which is worse - the fact that the cyclist caused the collision or that he didn't check on the rider after the crash. In a video posted on Facebook just yesterday (29 March), an accident along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 shocks several netizens. In the video, the cam car driver merges towards the middle lane in the darkness of the morning hours. Despite it being a little after 6 in the morning, the dark roads were illuminated by streetlights and the cam car's headlights. Just up ahead, a cyclist on the outermost lane notices the cam car's presence and starts switching lanes. With his bicycle dancing between lanes, it became clear that the cyclist had recklessly switched lanes without checking. At this moment, a motorcycle travelling in the same lane came into view. Due to the cyclist's sudden lane change, the rider did not have enough time to react accordingly, resulting in a rather nasty collision. The impact threw the cyclist off his bicycle while the heavy motorcycle flew across the road. With his path blocked, the cam car slows down and stops beside the cyclist, who immediately stands up with his helmet and bag still intact and attached to his body. After dusting himself off, he gingerly walks to his mauled ride. While attempting to pick it up, the cyclist blocks the path of an oncoming white van. On the other hand, after being thrown off his own vehicle, the rider sits up as he surveys his surroundings. As the group went by a petrol station, they spotted the Toyota Altis turning out. After failing to give way to the cyclists and the cam car, the Altis immediately brakes after it turns out. This scares the cyclists, who swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the thoughtless driver. They could also be heard yelling 'Oi' at the driver in the video, which provoked him even more. Continuing on their route, both cyclists and the cam car sped up and overtook the car. The cyclists then looked back to check on the location of the raging driver as they hurriedly peddled. This upsets the Altis driver, who immediately sped up and recklessly merged into their lane - just to step on his brakes. His pride must have been seriously hurt as the cyclists deftly avoided his attacks, resulting in a second attempt to block them (and almost running one of the cyclists over).
