  1. A Singaporean man has been charged with dangerous driving over a four-car accident in New Zealand that killed a motorcyclist. Lew Wei Kiong, 29, had been due in the Dunedin District Court on Tuesday (Dec 8) to face a count of dangerous driving causing death. Three new charges of dangerous driving causing injury were also due to be brought against him, reported the Otago Daily Times, but the case has been adjourned to Dec 22. Lew, who works at the Energy Market Authority (EMA), was involved in the accident along the state highway in North Otago, about 20km south of Oamaru, on Nov 29. EMA confirmed to Shin Min Daily News that Lew was an employee and that it was extending aid to two employees in New Zealand. According to stuff.co.nz, Lew was driving a rented Toyota and had allegedly crossed the double yellow lines on the highway to overtake a group of cars. He crashed into two cars and a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction. The passenger in the Toyota, who is also believed to be Singaporean, had to be cut from the car and was flown to Dunedin Public Hospital with serious injuries. Five others suffered injuries, while the motorcyclist, 39-year-old Craig Alan Chambers, died at the scene. New Zealand police had blamed the car crash on driver "inattention". The accident also reportedly reignited a debate over tourist drivers and the condition of roads in New Zealand, with Labour Party MP Damien O'Connor suggesting that poor road design could have led to the crash. He said that certain roads on the country's south island could be confusing for foreign drivers and clearer signage was needed. http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/australianz/singapore-tourist-charged-with-dangerous-driving-after-fatal-crash-in-new-zealand?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#xtor=CS1-10
  2. TL;DR - A lorry was seen going against traffic to overtake slower vehicles on a single lane. The driver then squeezes his way back onto its lane when the driver realises that there's oncoming traffic. Patience is a virtue. As responsible road users, we should always keep safety at the top of our minds. This lorry driver definitely did not. Watch this 44-second video to see why. What happened? A speeding lorry veered onto the path of oncoming traffic in an attempt to overtake slower vehicles in front. Needless to say, this reckless maneuver almost caused an accident with the cam car. The lorry driver then casually proceeds to swerve back into its lane without giving a hoot about the cam car. or the car in its rear. Let's hear from the netizens: Rouge style driving indeed. Seems like netizens are expressing their anger at the lorry driver, as any normal law-abiding citizen should. Please stay safe on the road, your families are waiting for you to celebrate many more new years together! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. Road works are becoming more of a common occurrence on our roads. This calls for drivers to be more aware of their surroundings, since the road barriers usually cut into a lane, making lanes narrower. Watch this video to find out what happens when a driver lacks such awareness when driving. Watch the video of the dramatic accident here: A Citroen MPV was unaware of the road barriers which were set up on Alexandra Road. The driver then proceeded to ram the barriers at a rather high speed, causing a rather violent 'explosion' of barriers. Worst still, the driver nearly smashed into construction workers who were standing nearby, almost causing a fatality. The dislodged barriers also nearly caused a passing motorcyclist an accident. Luckily, he was quick enough to jam brake, saving him crashing into the barrier. Turns out to be that the the motorcyclist was a really top dude, rushing over to the driver of the Citroen MPV to check if he was alright after tending to his own bike. In a rare moment of positivity on social media, especially on road accident pages, netizens also praised the motorcyclist for checking on the Citroen driver despite his own mishap. Another netizen however, pointed out that the driver of the Citroen might have been distracted by his phone. Please be reminded that using a phone while driving may cause you imprisonment of up to 6 months, a fine of up to $1,000 or both, if found guilty. If anything, let this video be a reminder to all that road conditions do change, and that however familiar we are of certain roads, it is unwise to be complacent or distracted when driving at all times. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. TL;DR – A cam car driver took to social media to shame a Subaru WRX for playing a brake check game with it. The driver even noted down the number (7 times) of brake checks performed by the WRX. Plot twist, the cam car driver isn’t so innocent either. The Facebook Post on SGRV Upon watching the video and reading the caption, one cannot help but think negatively of the Subaru WRX. Then you watch the video again, and you realise there’s more to it than what you see at face value. Here’s the video. The spark that fueled the fire Upon realising it was on a right-turn only lane, the cam car driver cut into the path of the WRX. Perhaps cam car didn’t signal its intention? Perhaps cam car did an abrupt lane change? Perhaps cam car was too near the WRX? Could be a myriad of reasons. But we can conclude that it triggered the WRX to act. Not just once, but SEVEN times On Count 7, cam car pretends to drive on a right-turn-only lane to throw the WRX off and changes lane at the last minute, but the WRX was ready for it and abruptly changed lane too. Online Chatter Sounds legit. Yes, both of them were driving recklessly. No argument about it. Schooled by a WRX. Naise. Very close. But, while most people would honk at cam car and calm their inner beast, the WRX driver went another way. When you post a video as a victim, but people call you out as one of the culprits. That’s golden. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  5. In this video that is circulating on Facebook, an Orange Lamborghini is seen to be driven dangerously on Raffles Ave, and is seen to be skidding across an intersection and cutting an SBS bus while doing a left turn. According to the timestamp in the footage, this took place on Saturday evening (8 May). Watch the video here: While attempting the right turn, the sports car lost control, skidded, then bounced off the kerb before accelerating off. Clearly, it looks like a wet day and the roads are slippery - We urge all drivers in these conditions to drive with extra care especially while turning at a junction. Later on, the Lamborghini driver made a dangerous, and illegal left turn, cutting an SBS bus at a traffic light intersection. This caused the bus to brake abruptly to avoid a collision with the italian sports car. Source: Google Maps Here's what netizens on Facebook have to say about the incident:

  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WJThbomts0 We have come across various types of messages advocating for road safety over the years. But Honda manages to pull off an innovative one with a short clip above. Remember: Don't text and drive.
  8. Dated 8 Jan 2014 1728-1740hour entering PIE towards Jurong via Toa Payoh PIE Exit. Irresponsible male driver driving dangerously between lanes and tail gating while smoking without regards to other drivers safety. He seems to be suffering from AHD with drastic body movement and hap-hazardly switching lanes. Do you or you know anyone who drive like that? Would like to know if this be reported to Traffic police?
  9. Imagine a doctor watching television while doing surgery or a student studying at Starbucks paying more attention to his coffee and the girls surrounding him rather than his textbooks. Distractions can cost lives (or grades), but when it comes to driving, its a whole lot more serious. There are many people out there on the roads texting while driving, talking on the phone, playing with their Ipods and most of them get away with it. None of them crashed into a side wall and died, neither did they get caught by the Police. There are laws banning drivers from using the mobile phone while driving and there is certainly sufficient evidence to prove that people do die from such usage, but isn't it the advancement of technology that's making us create more laws just to 'protect' the general public? Years ago before the mobile phone was invented, I wonder if there were people at the wheel trying to write notes or letters! What about laws to prevent that.. To me its all self inflicted. If you're not careful, you'll die, or get knicked. Apparently, the level of attention paid to driving while texting is almost the same as when the driver is drunk. I don't see how scientists got that result but its cold hard fact now. I'm not saying that texting on the move is good, I just think we aren't skilled enough as a whole human race to prevent the law from being implemented. Imagine a world where everyone can multi-task as well as females.. No accidents will happen because of such 'multi-tasking'. So bottom-line is: be responsible and leave that phone alone! Another big distraction is kids. Kids at the back of the car spilling food, crying, throwing their parent's Iphone around while playing Vege-Samurai or Angry Birds. I guess mothers have the natural instinct to try and pacify their child while the fathers just try to concentrate at one thing at a time because that's about all they can do. Men suck at doing more than one thing at a time unless you're a fighter pilot. Well, unless you're as strict as a Disciplinary Master, you probably will just have to bear with your kids at the back but other than that, driving is first priority because without concentrating on the road, the kids will be in danger. So let them bawl away all they want, you being the safe driver is what counts! Distractions are everywhere! Share some here and maybe some solutions as well to help our fellow motorists to keep the roads safer for everyone..
