  2. From September, the professional jobs networking site LinkedIn will pilot a new job-matching platform in Singapore that focuses on candidates’ skill sets, rather than educational qualifications and past job titles. This is to give jobseekers a better shot at gaining access to new employment opportunities. The Skills Path initiative, supported by the National Jobs Council, will allow applicants here to complete skill assessment tests unique to the job roles they are applying for, so as to demonstrate their competencies. They therefore do not need to rely solely on their traditional qualifications to get a foot in the door. Employers may then evaluate candidates based on their skills rather than judge them solely on their degrees, job titles and networks to fill a vacancy, LinkedIn said on Saturday (Aug 14). For a start, the pilot platform will feature one job advertisement each from eight different companies that have already come on board the initiative, with plans to get more companies to join. The employers are: Property developer CapitaLand, OCBC bank, food delivery firm FoodPanda, NTUC Enterprise, pharmaceutical company Zuellig Pharma, and e-commerce sites Carousell, Lazada and Zalora. They will put up job advertisements for six selected job roles, including customer service, data analyst, project manager and sales development, LinkedIn said. Jobseekers who are interested in finding career opportunities via Skills Path may do so by setting their profile status on LinkedIn to #OpenToWork. https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/linkedin-launches-singapore-job-platform-focused-more-applicants-skills-education-past-job-titles Any LinkedIn users here? How many of you actually pay for its premium account?

  5. Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Jul 15, 2011 Woman avoids jail over forged diploma By Selina Lum A 25-YEAR-OLD Chinese national will not have to go to jail after all. Initially sentenced to four weeks' jail for providing false information about her educational qualifications while applying for a work pass, Pan Hongling was on Thursday handed the maximum $15,000 fine instead. In allowing her appeal against the jail term handed down by a district judge in May, Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong noted that since she never started work here, nobody had been deceived except the system. In December 2008, Pan paid 1,500 yuan (S$280) to an employment agent for a forged certificate from Dalian University, which stated that she graduated with a degree in accountancy. Through the agent, an online application was submitted to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to obtain an S Pass for her to work as an assistant accountant in a carbon fibre company. Pan later signed a form declaring that the particulars of the forged diploma were true, and the pass was issued. Omigosh, from this incident, I can't help but feel that now PRC also enjoys preferential judgement. To me, a forgery is still a forgery regardless whether the forger started work or not. And I wonder how many out there and getting away with it.
  6. DIPLOMA-HOLDER Joyce Wong had six job offers shortly after completing her media and communication course in May. Two months later, the 20-year-old started work as an account executive at an advertising agency. Her monthly pay is $2,000, higher than the average starting salary of polytechnic graduates. Meanwhile, degree-holder Lynette Tillai, 23, has had little luck since she returned in June on graduating from the University of California, Berkeley. The psychology graduate applied to 10 local firms - mostly in the social services sector - but was rejected or ignored. The stark contrast in their fate is a reflection of how the downturn has been kinder to polytechnic than to university graduates - across all age groups. This picture emerged in the latest Manpower Ministry report on the job market in the third quarter.
  7. Guys, Need an advise from those whom have sign up or graduated from this course. I am from Logistic field of work and planning to switch to Aerospace as I believe it has a better job prospect in the near future? Am I correct to say this? So I intend to sign up for the 3 year part time Diploma in Technology (Aerospace) from Ngee Ann Poly. Is the Diploma the same as those whom studied a full time 3 years? If after graduate, do you think I can be in a suitable position to secure an Aerospace job? I am 28 this year and by the time I will be 31-32. Does age matters in securing a job in Aerospace line? I do not want to make the wrong move and hope to have a better future. Hope to hear advises from you guys.
