  1. Foreign pickpockets strike on bus: They cut pants to steal money from wallet STOMPer Kim Soon was a victim of a pickpocketing incident on Friday morning. He said a foreign commuter pretended to sleep beside him on the bus but later the STOMPer found his pants had been cut and money stolen from his wallet. Said the STOMPer: "This incident happened to me on Friday, around 9.40am. "Two men, who looked like they are from northern China, boarded bus 62 around Aljunied Road. Both are big-sized, about 1.75m in height. "They look in their 40s, with one sporting a shaved head and carrying a black sling bag. He sat beside me on the bus. "I did not feel them cutting my pants, but when the guy leaned against me to sleep, I could feel some body contact. "However, I was preoccupied with my thoughts and I was listening to music. "I only realised my pants had been cut and my money taken after they alighted from the bus. "As the bus is a loop service, they boarded the bus from the bus stop opposite about 20 minutes later, at 10.10am. "I recognised them and enlisted the help of the bus driver to close the doors so they would be unable to escape, but they got away before the doors closed. "I lodged a police report, but the bus does not have a CCTV camera installed as it is one of the older buses." The STOMPer described in an email: "Beware that there is a group of pickpocket crooks from China targeting passengers of single deck buses. "They will sit beside a passenger, whose wallet is placed at the back of the pants. "Then, they will lean with their shoulder agaist the seat and their back facing the targeted passenger. "While pretending to be asleep, these crooks will start using sharp object to cut the pants of the passenger and take the cash out from the wallet. "The whole process is done without taking out the wallet. "Thus, the passenger will not be aware that his valuables are being stolen! "Once the crooks get the cash, they will alight the bus immediately. "These crooks should be operating in pair and they speak in China accents. "One is doing the stealing and another one is sitting somewhere in the bus as a watchdog. "Be very careful and alert when someone is sitting beside you with his back facing you in a bus!"
  2. Ok my problem, the car dont idle very smoothly when it is not warmed up or when the weather is very cooling. Went to workshop A, plug in laptop. Boss straight away say 02 sensor need to change and quote me a price. As need to order the sensor, i went off without fixing first. Next day, went to workshop B, the boss plug in a handheld device. Then say is MAF sensor dirty or faulty, he proceed to clean sensor. Fix MAF sensor back, he say faulty. Must change. Tell me dont believe, you try with the sensor unplugged. Indeed the car was more powerful and run smoother. So which sensor is the faulty one? Workshop seems very confident it is the o2 sensor. But the maf sensor when unplugged really improved alot. Can anyone advise on this?

  5. Hi, I have less than 6 months to go (mid-Nov) before I need to scrap my car. Given the unstable market, what would be the best course of action? e.g. scrap car immediately and/or encash PARF/COE rebate? Wait for couple more months to enter second hand market? Thanks!
  6. basically i will summarise as easily as possible. we agree to deal a vehicle at price $88k and i am the seller. the deposit was $1k by check and we sign an agreement with this specific clause: the deal will only go through if they secured insurance for the vehicle. otherwise, the deposit must be returned. now they want to back off from the deal and they ask me not to bank in the check. the reason they gave was that the insurance they were quoted were too high. i have not told them that i intend to keep the deposit. they will obviously state that they have the right to get back the deposit because they did not secure the insurance. but i feel that that term did not state clearly. it was quite obvious that when someone say cannot secure insurance, it it because nobody want to insure. now the problem is many people want to insure, just that they feel too expensive. i rejected an offer at $87k because they gave me this deposit. now i ask the second offer guy, he say he bought another car already. i feel very lugi le. what do you guys think? should i bank in the check tmr? of course, my guess is that they should have already canceled the check. but do i have a case if i go CASE?

  10. Bros, maybe time to think of second- or third-hand rides... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_806066.html COE prices are unlikely to fall: Experts Published on Jun 2, 2012 WE NOTE that consumers in general are expecting a decline in premiums of certificates of entitlement (COEs) following the Land Transport Authority's announcement that it will pull back on its drive to crimp the growth of the vehicle population here ('Government answers call to ease COE crunch'; Thursday). In our analysis based on current deregistration numbers, despite the recent measures, the Category A quota - for cars of 1,600cc and below, and taxis - is expected to fall by some 40 per cent from current levels. It is unlikely the COE premium will decline for this category. Tan Wah Sern Executive Secretary Motor Traders Association -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHILE the revised COE quantum formula averts a worse situation, it does not address the system's boom and bust cycles. In view of the uncertain number of deregistrations until the end of this month, an objective way to assess the revised formula is to apply it to the present February-to-July allocation window. With annual growth allowance raised to 1 per cent in lieu of 0.5 per cent from August this year, and the temporary suspension of negative adjustments due to past oversupplies, the average number of COEs across all categories for each bi-weekly auction would be about 1,786 compared to the current 1,846. Some 627, 331 and 151 COEs would be available in Categories A (for cars with engine size 1,600cc and below and taxis), B (for cars with engine size above 1,600cc) and E (unrestricted) respectively. These numbers account for the lower provision of COEs in Category E from August. The average number of COEs in the forthcoming allocation window between August and next January will most likely be below 1,786 per bi-weekly auction due to fewer deregistrations this year compared to the second half of last year. Thus, the COE premiums can be expected to stay at their high levels. Singfat Chu Associate Professor of Analytics NUS Business School
  11. Dear God, Please make sure my boss reads this and concurs... [laugh] From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1199553/1/.html HR experts recommend pay rise By Saifulbahri Ismail | Posted: 06 May 2012 1631 hrs
  12. Hi all, Hmmmm, aftermarket headlamp bulbs... More power output... Brighter light, longer beam, whiter etc... (Not discussing HIDs) (talking about halogen/xenon gas filled bulbs) 12V/55W becomes 12V/90-115+W *Does this mean that the bulb is hotter? Which means that it will cause crack lines in the headlamp? I used before philips aftermarket bulbs 4+ to 5k so pretty white ($80+/pair). Very bright. Very expensive compare to china taiwan korean bulbs which cost below $20/pair, but seems just as bright... *seriously what's the difference besides the brand factor? And also I have heard white light will fail normal car inspection. But i have passed all my inspections with 4-5k bulbs... I almost tried 6k bulks but I think it will be very blue-ish and so I didn't wanna have use-less headlamps in heavy rain. I remember something fail on my inspection sheet abt headlamps on my previous car, but overall still pass and I renewed my road tax with the inspection cert. Present car is white lights (4k+) and I also passed inspection even with LED T10 bulbs. Or maybe 5k+ up then will fail. Any experience/knowledge to share? Many thanks

  16. Recently had a small dent on my fender thanks to my gf's fantastic driving... Went scouting thru the web for reasonable workshop for knocking and painting. From a few website, saw a few good reviews with a so call good quality dent expert in AMK autopoint. Went over to autopoint expert to ask for a quote, was shocked to find out for the dent, was quoted 130 bucks just for knocking, 280 for spraying the section of affected area. My dad fixed similar dents before for his ride and knows this is a cut throat price Decided to go over to my dad's regular budget wksp in sing ming for a quote. For both knocking and painting, sets me aside 180 bucks. Decided to go ahead and surprisely pleased with the results, even my gf who scratched the fender against the wall says its a job well done. Sure the so called expert may do better, but is it worth paying 2.3 times more for a simple dent and re-spray? With the result i got from a budget one, i couldn't even spot if the fender had been patched and re-spray before. Sorry for the rant, juz feel that some wksp is trying to rip drivers off with their so call repution for minor jobs. No one knows the integrity of the reviews anyway. Lastly, if ur gf is a kuku in driving, dun let them take control of the wheels not matter wat they say!!!
  17. What is 6 / 2(1+2) ? Is it 1 or 9 ? DAMN !
  18. Hi, I have a question for the election experts. Hopefully someone can enlighten me. Let's say I run as a candidate in Tanjong Pagar and the old man is leading the PAP. Halfway through the process, the old man ups lorry. Will I win the election by walk-over? If I recall correctly, a candidate, proposer, sub whatever nonsense they use to quantify their paperwork and salary, that is missing immediately voids the team fielding the candidates for the election. So what happens in the above scenario?
  19. Hi Guys, Below is my understanding... please correct me if I'm wrong Purchase of private property 1% to purchase the option 4% to exercise the option 3% - 5,400 for Stamp duty (must be done within 14 days of exercising the option) Now my question is this... when do we pay the remaing 15% of the downpayment to the seller? Is it 1 month or 2 weeks before the completion date? My impression was that it will be 2 weeks before the completion date and the 15% will be disbursed to the lawyer together with the 80% of the transacted price. But one of the bankers I approached said it is 1 month before completion.
  20. From the bumpy hosting of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to the Orchard Road floods, confidence in the public sector may have been shaken this year, according to some political observers. And in the year ahead, Singaporean residents will continue watching the government closely, in particular its measures toward housing and immigration. Yahoo! Singapore spoke to several political observers, as they took stock of this year
  21. I am driving a suzuki swift 1.5 aka ZC21... I used to have installed a illegal aftermarket exhaust and suddenly my engine light had turn on.. I went to a WS and they said something is wrong and told me to change back to my stock exhaust.. I am also using a HKS open pod filter.. the mushroom type.. Question regarding HKS: 1) Will my engine light turn on after I installed this exhaust? 2) Will I lose power to my pick up? as i heard aftermarkey exhaust are heavier.. 3) Will fuel consumption be affected? Thanks to those who reply back.. gladly appreciate it!
  22. hi all... i need to know does a mid muffler effect power?... ok i know the tail muffler straight through will probably add 1-2 maybe 2-3bhp over a stock muffler... lets say the tail muffler is already straight through... will a mid muffler affect the exhaust flow and decrease bhp? or no difference even if it was a straight through from the extractors to the tail muffler... thanks...

  24. Would like to pose a question to the legal experts out there. I know we definitely have more than a few legal eagles in this forum. Question is: Someone gives me a contract for work to be performed, those kind that go "...whereas it is hereby agreed that...". I and the other party initial/sign each page to indicate that we have sighted the page. But then at the end of it, the other party puts down his signature on the space reserved for it at the end of the contract. I don't sign the space reserved for me. Instead, I only do the initial/sign thing at the bottom corner of this page. Is this contract valid, though I didn't put my signature at the big blank reserved for it with my name, I/C number printed below, etc.? Or in other words, if I breach the contract, can the other party claim damages according to the terms stated in the contract?
  25. I always wonder....how come a normal 4 pot engine from a car....... will not sound as nice as a 4 pot engine on a big cc bike ? I mean even with an after market exhaust on the car.....it still loses out in terms of sounding as nice as a bike..... even if both shared the same engine cc
