  1. In light of the current Covid situation as well as the coming dry months with the haze coming, I recently had to do a presentation on this, so I figured I should the info here for all to benefit and also share, and others can contribute, discuss etc. 1 Firstly, I have no financial interest in the items I share.. 2 Second, what's an Air Purifier? An air purifier or air cleaner is a device which removes contaminants from the air in a room to improve indoor air quality. 3 What are the common contaminants? Before Covid, we had the Haze, and the keyword is PM 2.5 https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/indoors/air/pmq_a.htm These are particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5), refers to tiny particles or droplets in the air that are two and one half microns or less in width. Exposure to fine particles can also affect lung function and worsen medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease. Scientific studies have linked increases in daily PM2.5 exposure with increased respiratory and cardiovascular hospital admissions, emergency department visits and deaths. Then biological contaminants, which include bacteria, viruses and others like fungal spores. 4 So now the hot item is the Covid virus, which requires some of the finest filters known to man: BUT I want to emphasise, the key thing for Covid and general health especially for airborne / aerosol based infections, is the MASK. So before you rush out to buy that purifier, buy and wear that mask! And do your social distancing!
  2. Since domestic helper went back for home leave for a month, has been thinking of getting a water dispenser to reduce the hassle of boiling hot water and storing cool water and cleaning works. With a big family size, this seems very logical to have. Chanced upon the Fontan office dispenser awhile ago and was impressed with its look. It connects directly to water pipe and can provide hot and chilled water. But am looking at Fontan Home since I do not need a 6L hot water capacity. http://blondal.com.sg/products/fontan-home/ Then I came across this Tong Yang water dispenser at a neighborhood shop in Bedok that specializes in water dispensers. The shop stocks nothing but water dispensers. The model featured was touted at $938 with free installation. Set of 3 filters to be replaced annually at $120. The uncle was very confident of the product, throwing Mount-E hospital clinincs as his existing customers. And check online found it could be had for $688 with installation, so still looking around. Btw, this particular model has been rebranded by several companies, most notably Novita. http://www.lazada.sg/korea-tong-yang-water-dispenser-hot-and-cold-water-dispenser-with-best-water-purifier-3-magic-korea-water-filters-black-2486152.html http://www.courts.com.sg/novita-hydroplus-water-dispenserhot-cold-with-installation-np3360-h-with-installation-ip093855-m.html http://english.magic.co.kr/App/product/proDetail.asp?prdt_no=70&ctgr_no1=3&ctgr_no2=12&page=1&iMNum1=2&iMNum2=1 I would like to seek opinion from fellow forummers if you have any personal experience in using this kind of products. But please do not bring the Alkaline/ distilled/mineral water arguments into this thread. I only want a simple water dispenser with some filtration function that is able to run off a pipe and serves water and chilled water. Many TIA... Added: seems like the cold water function could be turned off, serving just rom temperature water.
  3. During my last oil change at my regular workshop, I noticed the labour prices have increased 50% from before. So I am thinking of embarking on my own oil changes. With the investment into the proper equipment required, I should be able to cover the costs in 2 or 3 oil changes. There is only one problem, I don't know where to dispose of the old engine oil. If there are any of you who are currently doing your own oil changes, where do you dispose of the old oil?
  4. http://diamondwaterweb.com/products_dew.ht...PID=12373396929 i was looking at the above website... looks good anyone has tried or have links to better water filters..... thinking of getting a good one for my family any recommendations
  5. If this product was to be introduced 2 days later, I will definitely believe it is an April Fools joke. The New Air-Purifying Dyson Zone Headphones Are as Wild as They Sound Source: https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/the-new-air-purifying-dyson-zone-headphones-are-as-wild-as-they-sound/ Dyson's new Zone air-purifying headphone looks like something you'd see in a dystopian sci-fi movie. But it's a real device you'll be able to buy sometime this fall, Dyson says. For Dyson -- a company that's best known for its high-end vacuum cleaners -- it's the first foray into wearable technology. The Zone is a set of noise-canceling, over-ear headphones that "simultaneously deliver immersive sound to the ears and purified airflow to the nose and mouth," addressing the "urban issues of air quality and noise pollution." No word yet on pricing, but it seems safe to assume that these will cost more than your typical premium noise-canceling headphones from Bose and Sony, and maybe even more than Apple's AirPods Max headphones. There've been rumors that Dyson was working on such a device for years. Back in 2018, Bloomberg reported that Dyson was working on an air purifier-headphone combo and in 2020, Dyson applied for a patent for a new pair of headphones with a built-in air filter. "Air pollution is a global problem -- it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike or by public or private transport," says Jake Dyson, chief engineer (and son of the company's eponymous founder). "The Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air pumps. After six years in development, we're excited to deliver pure air and pure audio, anywhere." According to Dyson, the air-filtration component is a "non-contact" system, which means it doesn't touch your face like a mask but rather sits just in front of it. "The compressors in each ear cup draw air through the dual-layer filters and project two streams of purified air to the wearer's nose and mouth, channeled through the non-contact visor," Dyson explains. "Sculpted returns on the visor ensure purified airflow is kept near to the nose and mouth and diluted as little as possible by external crosswinds." Dyson says that developing a non-contact solution was crucial in order to avoid the "discomfort and irritation associated with full-contact alternatives." In the latest Dune movie, no one seems to be complaining too much about wearing filt-plugs in their noses to draw moisture from exhaled air back into their stillsuits for later drinking. But in the real world, people can have strong emotions about wearing anything on their faces, particularly masks. Dyson says to test the Zone, its engineers used a breathing mannequin named Frank that was fitted with medical-grade mechanical lungs and sensing equipment that replicated human breathing patterns in a controlled chamber. That sensing equipment measured pollution levels within the nose and determined "the filtration efficacy of those particles, which would otherwise end up in Frank's artificial lung." The mannequin was named Frank because it reminded the engineers of Frankenstein, a Dyson rep told CNET. On the audio side, Dyson says you can expect a premium listening experience with an accurate, neutral audiophile sound profile and proprietary advanced noise canceling. The headphones are also designed with comfort in mind, though Dyson hasn't announced how much the headphones weigh or what their battery life ratings are with air filtration and noise-canceling on. Each ear cup houses two motors, and Dyson says they're the smallest in any of its machines to date. The headphones connect via Bluetooth -- no word on what version number -- and can also be used to make voice calls.
  6. Well my 10 year old car got the COE renewed so am thinking of replacing the fuel filter, not oil filter, not air filter. The fuel filter is in the fuel pump near the fuel tank. CnC quote 600 to replace both the fuel pump and filer as it comes together in as assembly, should I change it, it is pretty ex but the filter should be already dirty.

  9. Hi all, currently I'm using the above mentioned for 4years, never done any cleaning before and now it had turned very dirty and black. Should I change it to a new one or is it worth to pay and get it wash and clean at some workshop? Anyone can advise the charges for cleaning?
  10. I got this cheap water filter system from MY. It has a dome ceramic on top, the some soil and gravel in the tube, and bottom of the filter is some volcanic rocks. You pour the tap water on top and the water will slowly drip downwards. There's the plastic tap for you to push to dispense the water for drinking like those we see at those normal bottled water drinking dispenser. Where in SG can I buy the replacement plastic tap? Anyone knows? I have bought it once in KL but now pecah again :(

  18. Having trouble with Isuzu diesel engine with euro 5 std exhaust emission. To keep exhaust emission clean, the DPF filters out exhaust. But theis DPF need to regenerate bpwith high temperate to burn off the dirty soot. Now the regen function cannot cut in. Check engine and regen light activtaed on oinstrument panel. This is the down side with euro spec diesel unit. Some uses DPF some uses Ad-blue (ammonia related) But is there any one with similar experience with diesel engine exhaust DPF filters?
