  1. The two alleged Boston Marathon bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were tracked by the police with the help of Mercedes' factory fitted GPS system in the hijacked 2013 M-Class. Mercedes-Benz USA was asked to locate the SUV using the Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance function on the crossover's 'mbrace2' telematics system. The owner of the M-Class is a 26-year old man whose car was stolen at a petrol station. He informed the police that his car could be tracked by Mercedes' satellite system. Mercedes-Benz USA CEO, Steve Cannon, tweeted, "Just found out that our mbrace2 technology in the stolen Mercedes helped locate the Boston terrorists! Thanks to our amazing law enforcement." Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman, Donna Boland, confirmed that Mercedes turned on the tracking feature after authenticating the request. Lesson of the day - use a 'not-so-advanced' vehicle when committing a crime.
  2. Are you the kind who pokes fun at the male/female voice that comes with a GPS system, spewing mechanically accented directions at you on the way to a destination? Well complain no more!! Garmin has now introduced a record-your-own-voice feature for their navigational instructions on their latest GPS systems! Garmin says the PC-based application will take about 20 minutes to complete, but when you're done you can tell yourself when to turn instead of that computer generated voice that dominates directions. While the program will allow you to voice directions like "turn right in one quarter mile". Additionally, Garmin is releasing an ecoRoute cable that ties into your vehicles ECU to help you tread lighter on the gas pedal and record the results. Both programs will not work for 3xx and 6xx series navigation systems, but other Garmins should work just fine. If you've already got a Garmin GPS and want to get your hands on their latest program, do note that it will not work for 3xx and 6xx series navigation systems. So humour yourself and your friends the next time you plan on heading up north on a long weekend roadtrip. Heck, get your hands on a GPS for a friend's birthday and make sure you record the most irritating, nasal voice you can humanely manage before wrapping the bad boy up. Get the whole gang involved! Imagine "Turn right NOW!" in a heavy singlish accent or even "Turn left. Oh wait! Turn right! Wait...Ok I'm lost". Getting the GPS program for yourself? No better way to get sick of your loved one's voice by getting her to record her voice on it, throwing in sexual innuendos and pet names for good measure. Here's the list of GPS devices that are compatible with the new program.
