  1. Edmunds.com, an American online resource for automotive information, pitted the fresh-from-the oven 2013 Lexus IS250 against the Cadillac ATS 2.0 and the compact luxury segment leader, the BMW 328i. The IS250 is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre V6 which is good for 204bhp. The 328i and ATS are both propelled by their respective 2.0-litre direct-injected, turbocharged four cylinder which produces 240bhp and 272bhp respectively. This is the third generation of the Lexus IS. However, will it be third time lucky against the BMW 3 Series?
  2. Recently, I blogged on two reviews involving the Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208 GTI. Now, Auto Express U.K. made a triple-threat match by pitting the Fiesta ST and 208 GTI against Renault Clio RS. In the previous reviews, the Fiesta ST was clearly preferred over its French rival. Can the American pocket rocket do it again? Like the other two members in this group test, the Clio RS is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine which is good for 200bhp and 240Nm of torque. However, it is the only car here with a twin-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. The Clio RS also takes the podium for being the priciest among the trio. Auto Express drives the cars through hundreds of miles over a range of routes ranging from motorways to towns to pick a winner. The Clio is the best in the drag race while the Fiesta is the fastest round the track.
  3. Recently, Evo magazine pitted the brand new Jaguar F-Type against its arch rival, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet at the Bedford Aerodrome circuit. The review is done by Tiff Needell, who is a British racing driver and television presenter. The F-type in the group test is powered by a 375bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6. The engine is mated to an eight-speed 'Quickshift' automatic transmission. At the other corner, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet is propelled by a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six that produces 345bhp. The seven-speed manual transmission sends the power to the real wheels. Although the British car has a horsepower advantage over its German rival, it is significantly heavier by 160kg. So, who is going to come out on top ?
  4. In a recent episode of Autocar, Steve Sutcliffe pitted the German supercar, the 2013 Audi R8 V10 against the Ducati Diavel. For readers' information, the Diavel is the second cruiser motorcycle from Ducati, an Italian company that designs and manufactures motorcycles. Ducati is owned by Audi. Weighing 234kg with a 162bhp, 1198cc two-cylinder engine, the Diavel has a power-to-weight ratio of 692bhp per tonne. At the other corner, the 5.2-litre, 542bhp R8 has a power-to-weight figure of 340bhp per tonne. Looking at the power-to-weight ratio, it looks like the Audi is at a disadvantage. However, this test takes into consideration both acceleration and deceleration of the two vehicles. Who is going to come out on top?
  5. Recently, British magazine Auto Express pit the Audi R8 against the new Porsche 911 on a race track. These two supercars are actually distant relatives considering that both brands are under the Volkswagen Group's umbrella. The Audi R8 received a facelift in 2012 with the addition of a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission that replaces the six-speed automated manual R-tronic. At the other corner, the all new Porsche 911 has a rich heritage that dates back to 1963 and has been acclaimed as one of the world's benchmark sports cars. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is propelled by a flat-six, 3.8-litre engine with an output of 394bhp. In the 4S, power is distributed to all four wheels via a PDK dual clutch transmission. On the other hand, the R8 in this comparison test is motivated by a free-breathing 4.2-litre V8 with 424bhp. Like the 911, the R8 has an all-wheel drive setup. Whoever wins this group test, Volkswagen wins.
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oapP8qzehI In a recent episode of Head to Head, Carlos Lago pits the Ford Focus ST against its arch rival, the VW Golf R. Not only that, the Focus ST has to face off against the Subaru BRZ subsequently, a situation which I will explain later on. Hence, the Focus ST is in a situation similar to a participant in WWE's 'King of The Ring' tournament. Can the hottest version of the Focus take the heat? Both the Golf R and Focus ST are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged power plant. The models in the test are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. Even their horse power ratings are quite close to each other - 256bhp for the German and 252bhp for the American. However, the Golf R has an AWD configuration while the Focus ST sends the power to the front wheels. As the stability control in the US Golf R cannot be turned off, it was replaced with the Subaru BRZ during the race track portion of the evaluation. This part of the test is conducted by Randy Pobst, a professional race car driver. He commented that the BRZ has probably the best balanced handling on the whole market right now. Tough luck for the Focus ST it may seem. Tighten your seat belts and watch the video to find out!
  7. [extract] With the launch of the 2012 BMW 3 Series, BMW has further cemented its position as the leader of the compact luxury segment. However, that was before the Cadillac ATS sedan went on sale. The Cadillac ATS was specifically designed to compete with the BMW 3 Series. In fact, this is Cadillac
