  1. This Is The All-New 2020 Volkswagen Golf https://carbuzz.com/news/leaked-this-is-the-all-new-2020-volkswagen-golf 2019 promises to be a landmark year for Volkswagen, with the launch of the brand's first electric I.D. car marking a new era for the German automaker. Equally important for VW is the launch of the next-generation Golf this year. We know production is starting this June, but the only official images VW has released so far are some vague design sketches teasing what the 2020 Golf will look like. But thanks to leaked photos posted by Instagram user johannes.vag, we’re getting an early look at the all-new Golf ahead of its official reveal. The photos allegedly show the eighth-generation VW Golf virtually undisguised outside a McDonald's restaurant while the test driver stopped for lunch. Much like the 2020 Porsche 911, the new Golf’s design changes aren’t very dramatic since Volkswagen understandably doesn't want to mess with a successful formula since the iconic hatchback's inception in 1974. As expected, we’re looking at an evolutionary update compared to the current seventh-generation model. It’s still instantly recognizable as a Golf, but the new model appears to have sharper design lines and slimmer LED lights that match VW’s newer models. It also looks slightly longer and wider than its predecessor. The all-new Golf will be based on an upgraded version of the current model’s MQB platform. As a result, it will be significantly lighter and have a larger wheelbase than the current Golf, so it should offer a more spacious cabin and more trunk space. We’re also expecting the interior to get an overhaul, as well as more safety tech and a semi-autonomous system. Expect a range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel units available at launch, followed by mild-hybrid version and a new next-generation Golf R, which could have as much as 400 hp on tap. With production of the eight-generation Golf starting in June, a reveal at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March seems likely.
  2. <Toyota GR Corolla Teased with a Game of I Spy Toyota dropped a teaser on Instagram with tons of hidden clues about the upcoming hot hatch, which is expected to use a 268-hp three-cylinder engine. TOYOTA Toyota teased the upcoming GR Corolla hot hatch with an image shared on Instagram that featured hidden clues detailing the new model. The GR Corolla will be powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine as the global GR Yaris. The GR Corolla is expected to debut sometime next year and go on sale as a 2022 model in the U.S. Ever since Toyota debuted the GR Yaris hot hatch and said that it wouldn't be sold in the United States, we've been itching for a version of one that we could buy here. After all, Toyota needs something to compete with the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Volkswagen Golf R, and Hyundai Veloster N. Good thing Toyota isn't leaving us behind, because we're getting a GR Corolla soon. The company just dropped a teaser image on its Instagram account that give some hints of the new raucous hot hatch. WHAT WE EXPECT THE GR COROLLA TO LOOK LIKE. | ILLUSTRATION BY BEN SUMMERELL-YOUDE/FOX SYNDICATION | CAR AND DRIVER Naturally, the users over on the GR Corolla forum were quick to point out all the hints, which are scattered around an image of a standard Corolla's interior like a game of I Spy. GR stands for Gazoo Racing and is used on the Supra and the new GR86 sports car. The time indicated on the gauge cluster is G:16, which refers to the G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine that's used in the GR Yaris. The 268-hp output of that powerful engine's Japanese version is found on the climate controls in the teaser image. European versions make 268 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and the engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. That's not all. There's even a camouflaged GR Corolla hatchback in the background of the image (we tried to zoom in; you can't see much, sadly). There's a GR Four road in the navigation system, which refers to the advanced all-wheel-drive system that has Torsen limited-slip differentials in the front and the rear and an electronically controlled center differential. Look for more details on the new GR Corolla soon, as Toyota is sure to trickle out details about the new hot hatch before its reveal, likely next year, since it released almost all the details on the new Tundra pickup before its official debut.>
  3. After 2 long years, we can finally drive into Johor Bahru to do the things we love - pumping cheap petrol, eating delicious food and going for massages. However, not all of us deserve this privilege. Especially for reckless hooligans such as this driver: What Happened? The following incident occurred at a roundabout in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. A Singaporean Volkswagen Golf GTI was travelling at a fast speed and recklessly cutting lanes as he entered a roundabout. Just as he chiong-ed into the roundabout, he was caught unaware of an oncoming Malaysian MPV (?) to his left and collided with it. The MPV involved in the accident immediately pulls over to the side of the road. However, after the Volkswagen driver realised what had happened, he floors his accelerator and scoots away from the accident scene, committing a hit and run. What are your thoughts on such irresponsible drivers? Netizens Comments 😳😳😳 A short and sweet way to describe the GTI driver! I realised this too. Why ah?! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  4. 5 weeks' jail, 3-year driving ban for 2 men involved in illegal race in Lim Chu Kang Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/illegal-race-in-lim-chu-kang-lands-two-men-5-weeks-jail-and-a-ban-from Goh Tze Ming (left) and Khairulanwar Ismail were given five weeks' jail and a $1,500 fine each for racing illegally.ST PHOTOS: WONG KWAI CHOW SINGAPORE - They sped down Lim Chu Kang Road in similar cars and clocked almost equal breakneck speeds in their illegal race. On Tuesday (Sept 10), Goh Tze Ming, 37, and Khairulanwar Ismail, 26, were given the same sentence - five weeks' jail and a $1,500 fine each. They will also be disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for three years after their release. The men, who were both driving a Volkswagen GTI, had denied that they were involved in the illegal race, which took place on Dec 9, 2016. The pair also similarly claimed trial against the charge of illegal racing, an offence under the Road Traffic Act. During the hearing, Goh said that he had been rushing to go to the toilet, while Khairulanwar claimed that he was speeding because he wanted to check his engine check-light. Deputy Public Prosecutor Senthilkumaran Sabapathy rubbished the claims, calling them "illogical, unsubstantiated and unbelievable". He added: "It is simply implausible and fanciful that (they) happened to be speeding, at almost twice the speed limit and right next to each other, at a place where a race was ongoing at the material time." The court heard that the two men were arrested by Traffic Police (TP) officers during a sting operation led by Inspector Pardeep Dass, who had received intelligence that there was going to be an illegal race in the area. Together with two other TP officers, Insp Pardeep arrived at the scene in an unmarked car. The officers saw people standing around 40 vehicles parked along Lim Chu Kang Road towards Neo Tiew Road. At 1.07am, the cars driven by Goh and Khairulanwar were seen making a U-turn towards Jalan Bahar before coming to a stop side by side for about 10 seconds. Insp Pardeep then saw both cars speeding off at the same time. The TP officers were activated to pursue them. Goh was caught driving at 132kmh, while Khairulanwar had clocked 136kmh - nearly twice the speed limit of 70kmh. Both men will also start their sentences on the same date - Sept 19.
  5. Nothing new here. This is just another case of street racers causing trouble to the general road users. Shared among group chats in Whatsapp is a series of videos that show a Volkswagen Golf GTI mk5 owner being bombarded with hokkien vulgarities. No, we won't be translating what those words mean in case you are wondering... After some digging, we found out that the GTI driver who was being shouted at, and a Mitsubishi Evo X were zipping left and right through traffic along CTE on 9 Jul 2020 before causing a Toyota Hiace to crash and flip sideways into the bushes at the left side of the highway. We could see that the GTI sustained some damage to its front left hence the driver stopped. We assumed the Evo X driver did not stop and continued on its way. This is not the first time the GTI owner has been caught driving recklessly as you can see from the video above by ROADS.sg. Of course neitzens on facebook are bashing the reckless drivers as we can see from Thelocalsociety's FB page. What are your thoughts on such drivers? Let us know!
  6. Remember the black Volkswagen mk5 Golf GTI that was spotted racing on CTE at night with an Mitsubishi Evo X before causing a van to crash and flip? Here's a recent cum compilation video of the GTI causing havoc on our roads. As you guys can see these are some pretty reckless driving. A big no-no when dashcams are everywhere. And yes how could we forget the ever-increasing number of Facebook pages that shame bad drivers. Naturally, the comments section on SG Road Vigilante's page has its supporters slamming the driver. On a less serious note, the GTI is a pretty good point and shoot car with its fast-acting DSG box and turbo engine eh?
  7. Thank you to MCF for picking me as a winner for the lucky draw to drive the Golf GTI for a weekend. Selected the available weekend slot from VCS, Fri to Mon. Met Amanda from VCS at 2pm on Fri to collect the car. Signed the agreement form and proceeded to take delivery of the car. Amanda gave me a very detailed brief of the car from exterior to interior, it was like I bought a brand new car. She handed the car over with full tank of fuel and there is no top-up required by me. And I was also surprised that VCS allowed me to drive the car to Malaysia. However I was not able to due to commitments in SG, attending NDP preview. First look at the Golf GTI exterior, it was stunning, looks big. Mine is white colour. The distinctive red GTI line across the front from head lamp to head lamp stands out, typical of the GTI heritage. The LED headlight and DRS was so beautiful, I liked it. The rest of the body was similar to the rest of the Golf cars. The rear lamps was nothing different to me. And this Golf GTI comes with front sunroof, thou I am not a fan of sunroofs.

  10. Was at VW Alexandra 1st week of Sep 2017. According to SE, Golf facelift (mk7.5) is already in Tuas, undergoing LTA homologation process. All SEs have already been there to look at the cars, with photos in their mobile phones. Spec sheets have already been drawn up, which I got a glimpse on SE's mobile phones. Some sketchy (I don't have complete picture) details: Current Golf 1.2 will be replaced with facelift 1.0 New 1.4 will again have two versions, named ComfortLine or TrendLine or HighLine or something. Facelift 1.5 is nowhere in sight. GTI and R is also in the works. Active Info Display is "deemed a high-end feature", and only available in the highest models: GTI and above. ACC (adaptive cruise control) is again nowhere in sight. Currently clearing Golf stocks (all ex-stock, limited colors) to make way for the facelifts. They shouldn't have any problems since Cat A just drop a massive 7K on 06-Sep 2017.

  12. One of the most iconic automotives of all times - the Volkswagen Golf - is celebrating its 40th birthday. We take a trip through the memory lane with a brief history of each generation. The Golf is a statement of progress, reflecting some of the most advanced technologies by the Wolfsburg automaker during each era. Replacing the aged Beetle, the Golf Mk.I saw daylight in 1974. But unlike its 'predecessor' who had a rear engine, rear-wheel drive layout (and likewise most of the other cars in the market), the Golf had an innovative transversely front engine driving its front wheels. The second Golf was introduced in 1983, together with a slew of technologies such as regulated catalytic converter, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and power steering. Also, for the first time, the Golf could be ordered with an all-wheel system. With the introduction of front airbags, Golf Mk.III heralded a new era of safety. Major advances in the body construction also significantly improved crash safety. Later in its lifecycle, a convertible (Golf Cabriolet) and an estate (Golf Variant) were also added to the family. The Mk.IV Golf saw the debut of ESC, and is the first to receive a Haldex clutch - termed Golf 4MOTION. Later on in 2002, the first direct injection (FSI) enginer was fitted to the hatchback. Also introduced was the top-of-line R32 hot hatch which was capable of a 250km/h top speed, which was also the first to feature the revolutionary dual-clutch gearbox (DSG). The Mk.V Golf adopted laser welding for its bodywork, which resulted in 35 percent increase in torsion rigidity. In terms of safety, side airbags were offered as an option for the first time - on top of six standard ones. The Golf also gets a tall list of equipment, such as new four-link rear suspension, seven-speed DSG, bi-xenon headlamps, panoramic sunroof - as well as the world's first twincharger (TSI) in the 2006 model. Volkswagen continued to work on the safety aspect of its icon with advances in its body rigidity, and the efforts paid off with a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating. More TSI engine variants were offered alongside the turbodiesel (TDI) engines. Park Assist - the automatic parking system which garnered much limelight - was also introduced in the Golf. Like its predecessors, the latest Golf had a keen interest in fuel economy and driving dynamics. A hundred kilograms were shed in the Mk.VII Golf, improving the fuel efficiency by as much as 23 percent. The turbodiesel Golf TDI BlueMotion sets the benchmark for efficiency, claiming a figure of 31.25km/L. In line with global trends, electric variants of the Golf - e-Golf and plug-in hybrid Golf GTE - were added to the family.
  13. Recently, we chanced upon a comparsion article where a few of the current and best hot hatches went head to head with each other. What caught my attention was that Volkswagen’s Golf GTI was faster in a straight line to 100km/h and 160km/h as compared to its peers; the Megane 265 Cup and Focus ST. That said, the tested GTI had the Performance Package and DSG, which meant around 227bhp (7bhp more than what we get locally). A little digging on the net revealed that owners of the new GTI have little or no problems keeping up with modified previous generation GTIs. Could it be that Volkswagen underrated the GTI’s output? We estimate it might actually be producing around 250bhp. On another note, if you need more power, one can always opt for a tune up from Oettinger. They claim to be able to make your GTI produce up to 350bhp with the help of a sport exhaust system, new intercooler and new custom air intakes. We believe they will also be changing the mapping of your ECU to help optimise the available potential from the latest EA888 engine. Other upgrades available include Oettinger’s aerodynamic package, which consists of a front spoiler with separate splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear roof spoiler. In addition to the sonorous exhaust system with twin tailpipes either side, the strikingly designed roof spoiler with open R-Flaps provides a sporty stance.
  14. This year's Geneva Motor Show was a dream for many petrolheads, thanks to the presence of a new McLaren and a new Ferrari hypercar, a new Porsche GT3, a new Alfa and a crazy Lamborghini.. thingy.. I'm sure you guys know Chris Harris from the Drive channel, who was fortunate enough to visit the show. Besides his opinion on some of the show cars at Geneva, je gives us a review of the facelifted E 63 AMG. Oh and did I mention he dislikes the Veneno?
  15. Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled a Polo concept known as the Polo R WRC Street Concept at the annual GTI meeting in Worthersee, Austria. The production version is now ready and as initially confirmed; the car will go on display at the upcoming 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen has released images of the car which is now known as the Polo R WRC and the car will be produced in limited numbers and it is considered to be the road version of the Polo R that will participate in the World Rally championships. The final product was heavily inspired by the concept shown at the GTI meeting. The Polo R WRC looks more aggressive and beefier than the Polo GTI, all thanks to the reshaped bumpers and wider stance. 18 inch rally inspired wheels are fitted on all four corners of the car. At the rear, the car receives a trunk mounted spoilers and dual chrome exhausts tips. The Polo R WRC is available only in white with grey and blue stickers placed on the front hood and at the side of the car. In the interior department, the front seats are fitted with bucket seats and the seats are wrapped in a mix of leather and alcantara. A three spoke steering wheel and aluminium pedals complete the racing look. The Polo R WRC is the most powerful street legal Polo that the company has ever built. The car is fitted with a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine and it is the same unit from the Golf GTI. The engine makes around 220bhp and with a torque of 350Nm. The car completes the century sprint in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 240km/h. As mentioned above, the Polo R WRC will be built in limited numbers and Volkswagen will built only 2,500 units of it.

  17. Peugeot has released the full details of its brand new 208 GTI concept ahead of its official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show come 6th March. The concept will be very close to the production model that will follow in less than a year's time. The power source of the concept is the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine inherited from the RCZ THP 200. It churns out 197 bhp with 275 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The century sprint is estimated to be completed under 7 seconds. To distinguish itself from its lesser brethren, the exterior gets a new body kit, larger 5-spoke alloy rims, brushed aluminium GTi Concept logo on the grille and quarter panels, which is a nice design element that I hope to see in the production model. However, the overall design still lacks the aggression that is expected of a car sporting a

    French GTI unveiled

Peugeot has pulled the curtains of the 308 GTI and it has been more than 10 years since the French marquee brought out a GTI in this class of vehicle. The Peugeot 308 GTi will be powered by the same 1.6 litre THP, 200ps engine that will be featured in the RCZ coupe model, making it a credible competitor to the VW Golf GTI, which pumps out 211ps. The THP engine which is fitted with a twin-Scroll turbocharger and a high pressure direct-injection system with Variable valve and timing injection technology, produces 275 Nm of torque. It come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 7.7 seconds while fuel consumption is rated at 6.9 liters/100 km and CO2 emission is 159 g/km. A sound system technology has also been employed to make sure the engine rumble provides for just the right sporty sound that customers will be looking for. The GTI
