  1. People as old as me would have remember the iconic Renault 5 in the 70s to mid 90s. I am not going to comment on its reliability not performance, since I have no chance to be in one, but good news for the fans of 5. Thus cutie beast is making a come back, abeit as an EV. Patent images published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) show the subcompact model in its full retro-modern glory, which stays true to the concept car unveiled in January 2021. Compared to the concept, the production-intent revival of the R5 has lost the rear light bar on the tailgate to make way for a black trim piece. It has bigger side mirrors and traditional handles for the front doors instead of the sleeker ones on the concept that remained flush with the door panel. Mounted on the C-pillar, the handle for the rear doors is bigger now. The black roof and red accents indicate we’re looking at a high-end version of the small EV. It is worth noting the third-generation Renault 5 will be electric-only but won’t ride on a dedicated EV platform. The new hatch that’ll dust off a legendary moniker last used in 1996 will adapt the underpinnings of the Clio by sourcing as much as 70 percent of the hardware to slash production costs by nearly a third compared to the Zoe. The platform has been dubbed AmpR Small (formerly CMF-B EV). Unusual for a B-segment car, it's going to have a multi-link rear suspension, which should translate into sharper handling.
  2. Finally a major change in design language for the new Mini. This new Mini Electric look quite refreshing and modernized imo. The images were taken at a facility in China and posted to Chinese social media. In the photos, the undisguised Mini is accompanied by several other camouflaged models parked nearby. It has no visible tailpipe and a limited amount of air intake on the front end, which suggests that this is an electric model. The pictured model is badged with Mini’s “S” badging, designating that this is a higher-performance model. The other camouflaged Minis nearby all have the typical hood scoop of Mini’s S models, but the uncamouflaged version does not. These scoops are used for air intake, but electric cars need less air intake than ICE cars do, so the scoop is somewhat superfluous for an EV. The current Mini Cooper SE electric does have a hood scoop, however. The biggest exterior change is the rear taillights, which change in shape and pattern compared to previous models. They’re also connected by a horizontal black stripe across the whole rear of the vehicle. Current Mini models have patterns reminiscent of the Union Jack, the British flag, imprinted in their taillights. In the photos, it looks like a similar pattern might still be there but is obscured by vertical black lines covering it and by the triangular shape of the taillights. On the interior, the dashboard is a significant departure from current Minis. This new Mini has a flat, bare dash, no driver display, and a floating circular center screen as the main focal point of the car’s infotainment system. The dash has significantly fewer buttons, knobs, and switches than current models, though there are physical controls on the steering wheel and a few (stereotypically-Mini) switches underneath the screen. This lack of physical controls suggests that the circular screen will be a touchscreen. The small screen in front of the driver is a heads-up display, which is likely carried over from the current Minis.
  3. A nice update which retain the shape we are all familiar with, yet the design cues is catching up with the electric era. While the overall shape is immediately recognizable as a Mini, there are notable changes to the next-gen version. New oval headlights are larger with dual horizontal elements inside. They sit atop a front fascia that is smoother overall, lacking corner vents but brandishing a slightly larger grille surround with squared corners. At the back, the new taillights a departure from the current design. They are much smaller overall, switching from a rectangle to a triangle shape with the Union Jack still displayed when lights and brakes are activated. The lights are connected by a prominent strip of black trim across the rear hatch, and below, a new rear fascia incorporates vertically oriented reflectors in scallops on the edges. This is an electric model, so you won't find exhaust outlets. At this point, it's worth noting that electric and internal-combustion next-gen Minis will co-exist, and they will carry some unique styling cues to set them apart. Among other things, expect to see fender emblems for combustion-powered models, and of course, the grille will have openings for air to enter. Combustion engines will incorporate a 48-volt mild hybrid system for added efficiency. As for the Mini seen here, reports say there will be two EVs offered with different battery packs. The starting point will be a 40-kWh pack, with the up-spec SE model wielding a 54-kWh pack. That should give the new Cooper a range of around 240 miles under WLTP testing, which tends to be generous. Buyers will have a choice between 181 or 215 horsepower.
  4. Ford is calling the 2019 Focus their most “accomplished and technically-competent Focus ever”, with the car boasting a new human-centric design philosophy meant to unite exterior styling with class-leading aerodynamics and a more spacious and well-built interior. “We wanted our all-new Focus to be a product customers fall in love with, and stay in love with,” said Ford Europe design director, Amko Leenarts. “Inside and out, our new design philosophy is about creating memorable moments of interaction that build and maintain the relationship between human being and machine.” By extending the wheelbase a full 53 mm, designers managed to position the wheels higher up into the sheet metal, thus reducing the perception of overall length and mass. Add the short overhangs and rearward cabin position and you end up with a dynamic-looking hatchback, one that is said to deliver “class-leading aerodynamic efficiency”. As for styling, even though Ford went with a recognizable front fascia, the rest of the car looks significantly different than the outgoing model, regardless of version. The all-new Focus can be ordered as a Vignale, ST-Line, Active and Titanium, in either 5-door or Estate form. The Vignale was given elegant ornamentation such as the satin aluminum finishes for the roof rails, fascia and rocker inserts, as well as a signature grille mesh. The ST-Line on the other hand looks more aggressive with its large diffuser and functional roof spoiler – it also comes with signature lower wing elements. Customers will be able to order their new Focus in one of 13 exterior colors, including Orange Glow, Desert Island Blue and the Vignale-exclusive four-coat dark Mulberry. The all-new Focus features a wide range of advanced technologies, among them Level 2 automation and several systems meant to make driving the car a more comfortable and less demanding experience. For example, Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies enhance safety, driving and parking, while ACC with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane-Centring will make long journeys less stressful. The ACC works at speeds of up to 200 km/h (125 mph). Then there’s the Adaptive Front Lighting System with Predictive curve light and Sign-based light. This tech pre-adjusts headlight patterns for maximum visibility before reaching a curve, intersection or roundabout. The new Focus is also the first Ford vehicle in Europe to feature a Head-up display (HUD). Other active safety features includes: Active Park Assist 2, Park-out Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Evasive Steering Assist, Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, Rear wide-view camera, Wrong Way Alert, Ford MyKey and Post-Collision Braking. Ford expects the all-new Focus to earn a 5-star safety rating during crash tests. They’re basing their expectations, in part, on the 40% increase in front crash load capability coming from the new C2 platform. Focus owners can choose between Ford EcoBoost petrol and EcoBlue diesel engines, said to meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards. They can be mated either to six-speed manual transmissions or a new eight-speed automatic. Opt for petrol and you’ll find yourself having to choose between a 1.0-liter EcoBoost (107g/km CO2) or a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost (122 g/km CO2). While the former is offered with 85 PS (83 HP), 100 PS (98 HP) and 125 PS (123 HP), the latter is more punchy at either 150 PS (148 HP) or 182 PS (179 HP). The diesel options are as follows: new 1.5-liter EcoBlue (91 g/km CO2) with either 95 PS (93 HP) or 120 PS (118 HP) – both offering 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque, and a 2.0-liter EcoBlue (112 g/km CO2) good for 150 PS (148 HP) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. Ultimately, it’s only the 125 PS 1.0-liter EcoBoost, 150 PS 1.5-liter EcoBoost, 120 PS 1.5-liter EcoBlue and 150 PS 2.0-liter EcoBlue units that can be mated to Ford’s new 8-speed automatic. Everything else will only work with a 6-speed manual. T.B.C.
  5. The Spanish cousin of the VW Golf is set to adopt a version of the dashboard first seen on the Cupra Formentor concept, featuring a tablet-like touchscreen display on top of the central air vents and a raised center console. The infotainment system will be all-new and will support over-the-air updates. The test car was fitted with an automatic transmission and featured a stubby gear selector between the seats, reminding us of the lever Porsche is using on the new 911. VW Group’s digital instrument cluster will also be present, at least on the more well-equipped models of the range. The next-generation Seat Leon rides on the updated MQB architecture and will become available with new 48-volt mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, in addition to more efficient versions of the existing TSI and TDI engines. The three-door bodystyle will be ditched, leaving only the five-door hatch and wagon models in the range. The range-topping Cupra Leon is also rumored to adopt not one but two powertrain options; the first one will be an all-new plug-in hybrid with 242hp (245PS) and an EV range of up to 31 miles (50km), while the second one will use the turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine with around 300hp.
  6. Honda's a genius in churning out state-of-the-art small cars. Here's why. The 2014 Honda Jazz is 4cm shorter but it offers 138 liters more cabin-space volume and nearly 13cm of extra rear legroom - compared to the predecessor. Here's how Honda engineers eked out extra room in a shorter car. For starters, Jazz's wheelbase has been stretched further apart by 3cm allowing its rear seat bench to move back outwardly by 7.6cm. Next, engineers made the centrally-mounted fuel tank located beneath the front seats thinner liberating more space for passengers but retains the same liter-volume as previous models. Plus, the new Jazz could be served in a hedonic shade of lemonade yellow to go with its packaging.
  7. The Opel Corsa is one of the German manufacturer’s best selling models, and now there’s an all-new sixth-generation model out, based around the same platform as the 2019 Peugeot 208. The two cars are mechanically very similar, but what they propose are two distinct visual packages - the 2020 Opel Corsa is the more sober and restrained of the two, so it’s probably pretty attractive to you if you prefer to be more low-key and not stand out as much as you would in, say, the flashier Peugeot 208. Aside from it sharing its underpinnings with other PSA products, the new Corsa also being offered in all-electric form for the first time. That model is called the Corsa-e and is motivated by a powertrain that is also shared with the new e-208). However, its platform sharing doesn’t affect the way it looks, and the 2020 Corsa looks like a current Opel model both inside and out. You can’t really spot the relation unless you know of it beforehand. The 2020 Opel Corsa’s new platform also helps it shed significant weight over its GM-Fiat underpinned predecessor and, in doing so, it has become quicker, more efficient, and better at going around corners too. Sitting inside, you’ll notice the much lower and sportier driving position as well as the feeling of being cocooned in the cabin - a feeling akin to that you get from a sports car. It even feels a bit sportier inside than its Peugeot-badged cousin. Heard the Opel Corsa will be on sale in sg soon...
  8. This week, we test drove ‘Hot Hatch’ from Hyundai. We had so much fun with 2019 Hyundai Veloster N. Is N good enough against Honda Civic Type-R and Golf GTi? If you haven’t you have to learn how to drive manual, because it is so much fun! With 2.0L turbo and 6 speed short throw shifter, it was a blast, let's meet the Veloster N. https://youtu.be/UU0W2FO2ISw 2019 Hyundai Veloster N -2.0T: 275hp (6,000rpm) / 260lb.ft. 9. Audi‘s next generation S3 model will also be available in Sedan form, featuring the same updated design and improved tech as its hatchback sibling. We can see loads of sporty-looking bits underneath this prototype’s camouflage, such as the chunky front and rear spoilers, large dual-spoke wheels and most of all, the quad exhaust pipe setup which points to this being anything but slow in a straight line. The new S3 Sedan will boast the same hexagonal grille and updated headlights as the rest of the fourth-gen Audi A3s. Still, the front bumper will feature bigger intakes, the profile will have more pronounced side sills, and the wheels will be bigger. At the rear, expect a slightly more elegant design compared to the current iteration, as well as updated taillights with modern graphics. The interior of the next A3, regardless of variant, will have a surprisingly angular design judging by previous images. The dashboard is also driver-oriented, and is expected to feature the automaker’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as the latest in infotainment software. Under the skin we expect a similar setup to what’s available right now, namely a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch and Quattro all-wheel drive, altough power and torque figures could increase from the current model’s 295 HP (300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). Its main competitor, the CLA 35, has 302 HP (306 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), so a slight bump is not out of the question. Since it’s possible we’ll see the all-new A3 and A3 Sedan debut before the end of this year, the more performance-oriented S3 will likely show up in 2020.
  10. According to Cars Guide, Hyundai is actively developing an all-wheel drive version of the i30 N hot hatch. As confirmed by Hyundai Australia public relations manager Guido Schenken, the brand had already planned for an all-wheel drive version of the hot hatch once the car was given the green light for production. Adding on, the head of Hyundai N Albert Biermann, has previously said that all-wheel drive was likely to prove to be a future focus for the manufacturer. That said, it is not clear when an all-wheel drive Hyundai i30 N model would go on sale nor do we know the all-wheel drive drivetrain will be seen in this generation of the i30 N or future ones. With an all-wheel drive system, Hyundai would be able to give its hot hatch more power with the additional traction, thereby allowing the i30 N to do battle with the hatches like the 345bhp Ford Focus RS.
  11. Somehow, NIssan March is the default choice of mine for compact hatch (except the current K13 model, which look kind of ugly). I have high hope for this coming soon soon model. Does it not look like a mini Qashqai from far?

  13. I am looking at getting a second hand Vios or Jazz. Anyone keen to sell to me or if you know of anyone who need to sell please PM me. Thanks!
  14. Is this a good family hatch back? Any reviews on this model?
  15. Honda's family hatch has been one of our nation's favourites. Now it seems that the time is ripe for it to transcend into the next generation. So how will the evolution fare? The third generation of the Fit will come in a total of four variants - the 13G, 15X, hybrid, and RS. The 13G is fitted with a 1.3-litre DOHC i-VTEC, mated to either a five-speed manual or CVT (with optional paddle shifters). On paper, Honda claims that the 1.3G is capable of returning 26km/L, with part credits to its new CVT gearbox. The 15X comes with a 1.5-litre under the hood, with a choice of six-speed manual or CVT gearbox. The new engine utilises Honda's direct injection technology for better performance, and is said to be 10 percent more powerful than the one it replaces. The hybrid, as always, packs the most amount of tech gizmos. It features a new one-motor i-DCD Sport Hybrid system that is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. When moving off from stationary, the system engages EV mode to improve fuel efficiency. Three driving modes are available - EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive. The hybrid claims an impressive fuel economy of 36.4km/L. If you asks us, the interior of the new Fit looks simple, yet appealing. The hybrid will get an snob gear stick that looks like it was taken from a spaceship - and we like this special treatment. The standard petrol-driven Fit, on the other hand, will have a redesigned fuel tank that gives more space to the cabin. From this picture it seems that rear legroom has been enhanced by quite a bit. Then, there is the RS variant for the boy racers. While we are sure it wouldn't outrun any of the hot hatches out there, it sure looks the bit. Of course, there is the question of whether the RS will even land on our shores. That said, the rest of the range should make their debut in Singapore somewhere in the mid of next year. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
  16. It is an expected move from Volkswagen - a more potent, all-wheel drive variant to top the Golf range. But now it has got almost 300bhp from the redeveloped 2.0-litre lump taken off its GTI stablemate. Is this VW's hottest hot hatch yet? 2.0-litre. Four cylinders. 296bhp. 380Nm. 5.3 seconds. These are the figures from the latest Golf R. In comparison, the Mk7 GTI has 220bhp and 350Nm of torque. That is almost 80 more horses in a similarly-sized hatchback. While the weight of the new R is not disclosed yet, we expect the Haldex four-wheel drive system to put a toll on the R at the scales. Then, the fifth generation of the AWD system promises up to 100 percent torque transfer to the rear axle - all done in fraction of a second via the Haldex coupling with help of an electro-hydraulic pump. Some cool tech there. To us, the previous gen Golf R was mind-blowing enough with 256bhp and 330Nm of torque. But then, we bet it was only right for VW to increase the power figures as it is the natural way to showcase its progress - as with any car manufacturer. Then, we would gladly have the twin-centre pipes (which we thought was the iconic symbolisation of the R) over the quad pipes, any day, anytime. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this wouldn't be a mere figure-boasting exercise.
  17. Putting aside COE, which one you will choose? Photos grep from sgcarmart review front: back: interior: i30 cost 20k more but more features - 7 airbags compared to 2 only - rain sense wiper - cruise control - sun roof - driver electric seat - integrated reverse camera
  18. An old episod of TopGear seems to say the previous Tpye R 3dr is better than the current one.... i have only driven the previous one breifly, no chance on the current one yet. Any bros know anything about which generation of hot civic hatchback, or even the 4dr is the prefer one?
  19. Hi All, WTS SUPER LUX LED Tail light set for i30 Hatch. Anyone interest pls email me [email protected] Tks
  20. gorgeous hatch to launch in Europe. not sure if coming to Singapore yet. Chevrolet has revealed the first photographs of a new hatchback version of the Cruze. It will be unveiled at the Paris motor show at the end of this month, and the five-door car will join the existing four-door saloon in Chevrolet showrooms in the middle of next year. Although the two models look similar, the hatchback stands out from the saloon with its coupe-like roofline. The range of engines and trims will mirror that of the saloon, although the new hatchback will be launched with Euro V-compliant engines, which will find their way into the saloon in due course. Exact details of the car and its specifications will be confirmed nearer its on-sale date, so there is no confirmation of whether every detail of the show car
