  1. Day 3 of the trip. Woke up around 9:00am to great weather. (You can check out Part 1 and Part 2 for previous entries on this trip) Before setting off, I took one last stroll around the hotel's vicinity and the beach. One thing I learnt from this trip was time was way too tight. Even though I had a nice pool and a beach at my disposal, I never found time to go for a dip. Upon reaching the car after checking out, I was flabbergasted to find some dog poo on my windscreen. Great start to the morning I guess... Decided to go pass the dam and back on Jalan Teluk Bahang for one last blast of the B-roads as I wanted to try out the newly built second bridge that starts from Batu Maung which will then lead us back to the main land. Saw some gravel and did some unnecessary stuff while no one was looking... Doesn't the road look inviting? Note the drop on the right side of the road! More scenic views while descending from the hills.. Alas, bad luck struck again. Seems like the bridge was closed for some last minute maintenance upon arrival. Back to using the old bridge then. From then on, it was the long drive home. It rained at times, making the driving a bit dreary as visibility dropped and so did the speed. At least the occasional supercar and a good lunch brightened things up. Overall, the trip was a success and I would recommend everyone to try going up at least once. However there are a couple of things I would like to highlight to all readers. Firstly, it is a pretty long drive. Eight hours to be exact for a one way trip. Having another driver or stopping over at Kuala Lumpur would be a better idea. Secondly, a 3D2N stay at Penang is too short! I missed out on quite a few other attractions like museums and temples that were said to be worth visiting. Lastly, do a full check up on your car first before you do a trip. Unfortunately, I forgot and halfway through, I was out of gas for the air-con. Needless to say, it got pretty warm at times.
  2. Feeling a little cooped up with work a couple of weekends ago, I felt the need for a drive to reward myself after all the slogging. Knowing that Singapore has no ideal road for driving, I chose to head up North like many other car enthusiasts searching for some decent asphalt. After a call and a quick discussion with a mate, we made our way towards Desaru. Not knowing where to stop for good breakfast after using the Second Link, we stopped at some random coffee shop for some tim sum. Nothing fantastic to be honest. It was not long before we got on highway E22. Long and straight road equals huge urge to step on it. Okay, this was shot by my passenger when it was going downhill and I did not notice the excess pressure on the throttle. There was some no speeding involved. At higher speeds, the Ignis Sport remained surprisingly stable with no hint of floating. However, the close-ratio gearbox meant that the engine could never really settle down. The lowered suspension coupled with the car's short wheelbase also meant that it was not the best cross-country machine to be in. While not apparent on our smooth local roads, Malaysia's bumpy roads sure bounced me around in the Recaros quite a bit. A good example of badly paved roads. Notice the part where the road joins the bridge? I misjudged and went over it at high speed and oh my, I swear i had some air time! Totally did not expect that and I was definitely more cautious after this. Meanwhile, the F30 BMW 320i driven by my buddy looked like it was soaking up all the undulations very well. I did wish I was driving that instead. The iconic suspension bridge of highway E22. Pretty amazing to me. A quick turn into 90 and 92 brought us to The Pulai Desaru Beach Resort where we took a break. Chose not to nap despite the hammock looking very tempting. Not the calmest of seas but safe enough to play in. Soon we were on the move towards Sungai Rengit area to have some seafood lunch. This was where the Ignis Sport shined. Free of traffic, I soon found myself going at a decent pace. On these small roads with some blind corners, I was able to push hard as the steering fed vital information to me. Gearbox ensured the engine was kept on the boil. Stopped by the last part of road 90 for some photos... Pretty scenic actually.. Alright, I admit I was damn hungry and food photography was totally forgotten. Sorry people. Food was tasty enough for the price but nothing much to shout about. With nothing much else to explore around the area, we headed home. And now slightly familiar with roads on the return journey, let's just say I had even more fun going back!
  3. Introduced to the world in 2003, the Suzuki Ignis Sport is a performance variant of the normal Ignis. It was basically designed to provide owners with maximum smiles per buck without burning a hole in their pockets. The car we have here was beefed up with a number of modifications, including a body kit, firmer suspension and close ratio gear box. Moving inside, it was not hard to see why the car could be priced so competitively. The interior does feel a little plain compared to most basic cars today and you can forget about finding any soft touch plastics on the dashboard. That said, the cabin space is decent and the driving position is spot on. Suzuki definitely had only the driver in mind when they built this. Happy to report that the pedals are well-placed for heel and toe downshifts too. Lovely Recaro seats hug drivers tight when it comes to the twisties, which this cheery little car relishes. We aren't too sure about the yellow netting in the headrest though. Feels good to be shifting gears ourselves even though this particular car's gearbox does feel slightly tired. White face dials with blue back lighting was pretty cool back in the early 2000's. Even though we rev it for all its worth (wished it could rev higher than 6,500rpm), it returned a surprisingly respectable 13.5km/L. Again, nothing fancy here. Air-con is strong and cold even after all these years. Carbon fibre effect on centre console is a nice touch. Front and rear fog lamps a standard equipment. 2-DIN head unit produces decent sound but is usually not turned on as we rather listen to the engine sing. Little 15-inch wheels coupled with 185-width tyres provide a good balance of grip and slip. This Ignis Sport rides pretty hard as it was on aftermarket coilovers. But it is oh-so-chuckable in the corners. Turn-in is instant and the car resists understeer well. We also hear that it can lift its rear wheel in a corner when asked too. Owner had a Sebring exhaust fitted to enhance aural pleasure. This 1.5-litre engine came with variable valve timing, pushing out 108bhp and 140Nm of torque. Nothing special but the car weighs less than a tonne hence the century sprint is a decent 8.9 seconds. A BMC intake (and we suspect a lightened flywheel) makes the car feel faster than it says on paper. Sad to say, this car is into its last eight months of its 10-year COE lifespan and currently the owner has no plans to renew its COE due to the sky high COE prices now. We do hope it does find a new owner who is willing to give it a new lease of life!

  6. Suzuki Ignis How come this car is not so popular in sgp??? With a value-led pricing policy, excellent reliability record and a range of well packaged vehicles, it's a wonder Suzuki doesn't sell more cars in the UK. Recent models, such as the Liana, have taken the Japanese firm to new levels of dynamic ability and interior quality, and while it's still nowhere near the top of its class, the Ford Focus rival does a pretty good job of providing family transport for not much money. Similar things could be said of the original Ignis. Built to take on the Toyota Yaris and Ford Ka, it offered a surprising amount of space for less cash, and was a pleasant enough vehicle to drive, with handling and performance leagues ahead of other budget rivals. Now there's an all-new Ignis, driven here for the first time in the UK - and it adds more to the mix. Available as a five-door with a new 1.3-litre engine featuring variable valve timing, the car can hold its head up against rivals such as the Ford Fusion and Vauxhall Meriva - especially when you look at the cost.
  7. Anyone see it before in SG? Is a additional table kit which i believe it can be folded. http://www.suzuki.com.au/images/new_images/cars/Igacc2.pdf Part 99000-99048-k40. Maybe can fabricate if got picture of the kit...
  8. "Hi to ignis lovers, I believe most ignis drivers should have the same experience as me, driving this car is fun but the only setback was how come the gear shifting is like driving lorry. I have check around with other models of same make and their encounters are fine, quiet gear shifting experience. I have once raise this question to CM service advisor and answer was is like tat noisy can't do much the gear box is supported by a few wire so more cloggy.?? ** When I first test drive the car, it seems to be more smooth in transmission. Any brothers/sisters out there encounters the same or worse situation and happens to know a solution to solve it." http://www.suzukiclubsingapore.com/forum/v...opic.php?t=1190 Haha... I alway told my fren that i driving a pick up. Anyone know anyway to reduce the noise?
