  1. Although there were 'casualties' in this incident, the man did end up stopping the bike. A confusing video showing a man kicking the bicycle of a young child as he free-wheels down a slope is currently going viral. In the video, the child, who is not wearing a helmet or any safety gear, attempts to free-wheel down a slope. While the slope does not look that steep, it is dangerous for any child (and adult) to ride a bicycle in public without some sort of protection. The child could be heard screaming (out of fear or joy?) as he goes down the slope. An unidentified man notices the little boy struggling to control his 'vehicle' and runs up to the speeding bicycle. He immediately kicks the bicycle to stop the child in his tracks. This works a little too well as the child flies off his seat and lands face-first on the pavement. Although the child did sustain some light injuries, the way he fell with his bicycle was hilarious. The man then looks back towards the camera's direction in search of the boy's parents. Before the video ends, the child could be heard crying from the pain. Netizens' reactions This video garnered mixed reactions from netizens, some of whom feel that the man could have used a better method to stop the child from getting hurt. While it has not been confirmed yet if the man is the child's father, his fast reaction is something to applaud. Maybe he plays football a lot? Honestly, I would have done the same thing to stop the kid from further harm. The injuries that he received from falling off his bicycle was just collateral damage. At least he didn't collide into a tree or gone off the path. I agree! While this video has been going viral for both the right and wrong reasons, it is always important to stop and help someone in need. While we might never know if the man is indeed related to the child, at least he managed to save him from a serious injury! ======== Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. Remember the time when a video of an LTA enforcement officer that stopped an offending PMD rider by giving the rider a good kick, causing the offender to fall off his PMD? Now, something similar is going viral in Malaysia. According to The Star, the incident happened in Sibu, a town in Sarawak, Malaysia where two police officers were conducting a spot check at Jalan Temple around noon. A motorcyclist that was approaching the road block decided to turn around to avoid them but failed to do so when one of the officers acted quickly by giving the biker a martial art-style kick. In the report, Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit explained that the offender works at the a hotel nearby and has several offences to his name. Other than not having a driving license and having a modified bike, its road tax has also expired and it was not covered under any insurance too. 46687388_923477234821643_832602979362855331_n.mp4
  3. https://mothership.sg/2019/12/enforcement-officer-kicks-pmd-rider-off-device-along-bedok-reservoir-road-to-stop-him/ New thread as I feel this is good discussion Enforcement kicks pmd rider off e scooter in order to stop him About 3 other officers chasing Right or wrong? I am of the opinion that the act of kicking the rider off at high speed is uncalled for What if rider head hits the kerb? Who is going to be responsible for the injuries? But at the same time, I secretly want to say "orbigood" I mean, how else to stop a speeding pmd rider trying to escape? Let's discuss
  4. LTA noted that ‘many commuters want to work and communicate while on the move’ in the Land Transport Master Plan. But free Wi-Fi service will not be available on trains during the trial. Come the middle of next year, commuters on the North East Line (NEL) can expect to have free Wi-Fi access on the go, under a trial by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) that is aimed at improving connectivity. The initiative was revealed in the Land Transport Master Plan 2013 released last week, with the LTA noting that “many commuters want to work and communicate while on the move”. The service would also be available on “major interchange stations”, but not during train rides. In response to TODAY’s queries, an LTA spokesperson said: “LTA will test the viability of Wi-Fi at underground stations on our MRT network to enhance wireless connectivity for commuters while (they are) waiting for trains. From mid-2014, we will carry out a trial by implementing Wi-Fi at stations along the North East Line and at major interchange stations.” The authority, however, did not specify what the major interchange stations were, adding that “more details will be provided when ready”. The trial is part of the LTA’s push for smart travel. In the master plan, the authority also revealed plans to improve its MyTransport.SG smartphone app in the next few years by rolling out services such as real-time bus and train-platform crowd updates to help commuters avoid congestion. Many countries in Asia have already started providing free Wi-Fi on their transport systems. Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway recently extended free Wi-Fi hot spots to all its stations, while the Tokyo Metro introduced a free Wi-Fi trial at 30 of its train stations this year. Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Transport and experts TODAY spoke to generally welcomed the trial, noting that smartphone connectivity is increasingly becoming part of a good travel experience. Pointing to a recent report on the decreasing number of free Wireless@SG hot spots, former journalist and technology blogger Alfred Siew said the provision of additional free hot spots “is always good”. “But ... it might be good to extend it to inside trains, because that is where commuters spend most of (their) time when they are travelling,” he added. But this would “cost more or take more time to wire up all the tunnels, compared with just wiring up the stations”. Regular NEL commuters had mixed reactions to what some termed as a “value-added” service. Marketing executive Elvis Chiu, 29, felt the LTA should first focus on ensuring transport operators get the basics, such as train reliability, frequency and customer service, right. “Meanwhile, the telcos and train operators can work together to improve the signals and bandwidth underground,” he said. However, senior executive W Lim, 27, welcomed free Wi-Fi on platforms, given spotty 3G service on the NEL. She said: “It can be quite frustrating when whatsapp-ing friends to confirm meeting places, so free Wi-Fi will certainly help on occasions like these.” Tourists like Ms Sophie Hennessy, 26, from Australia, said free Wi-Fi would be helpful in accessing navigation apps. “With free access, I can search for directions to reach my destination,” she said. Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Ang Hin Kee, who sits on the GPC for Transport, said the LTA must ensure the effort is not a “cosmetic one which cannot support, say, more than 50 people logging on”. He added that the service was unlikely to lead to a fare increase, since the investment is made by the LTA and not the transport operators. 6. From ST: By Christopher Tan Car buyers will get a small reprieve as a planned cut in COE supply from August will now be more measured. In an announcement following Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew's pronouncement on mitigating the COE supply crunch early this month, the Land Transport Authority announced three measures. One, the planned cut of allowable annual vehicle population growth rate will stay at the current 1.5 per cent till next February, when it will go down to 0.5 per cent. This rate, which is one of the determinants of COE supply, was originally to be cut from 1.5 to 0.5 per cent from August. Two, the claw-back of oversupplied COEs made in 2008 and 2009 will be further deferred to July 2013 - a delay of one year. The claw-back, which has been responsible for an average 7 per cent reduction in COE supply each month, will resume in August 2013. Three, the Open COE category will shrink. Currently, 25 per cent of certificates from each of the four other COE categories go towards making up the supply of Open COEs.
  7. Not sure if this incident really happened during the recent Bersih 3.0 demonstration in KL or somewhere else but the many dark uniformed security personnel were rather brutal against the defenseless guy in purple. They were punching, kicking and using cane to whack the living daylights out of the purple shirted bloke. Warning: The video footage at the end was rather graphic and showed the brutality committed against the poor man. Watched it at your own discretion. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ps_bash_up.html This Urban Jungle Posted on 02 May 2012 Police or hooligans? Malaysian cops gang up to whack, cane and kick man in public STOMPer AO was appalled by this video of uniformed Malaysian policemen punching, kicking and caning a man in public. He wonders if such violent acts from just over the Causeway could ever happen here. The incident is believed to have occurred during the Bersih 3.0 demonstrations that took place on Apr 28 in Kuala Lumpur. Thousands of people had gathered near Merdeka Square to challenge electoral rules in light of upcoming elections in Malaysia. Another video showing a police car losing control and ramming into a crowd of demonstrators also surfaced on the internet earlier. STOMPer AO wrote: "I do not want to say anything, just watch the video and make your own judgement! "What are human rights? "What if this were to happen in our own country? They are acting like GANGSTERS!"
  8. Hi all! What do you guys/gals think of the idea of a 'kick' button concept to kick trolls out of threads? In online multiplayer games, the other players in a session can kick a player out if the player was deemed detrimental to the progress of the game. So in MCF we probably allow participants to kick a troll out of a thread but we can refine the idea to only kick when all the other participants or up to a certain number prior to the troll's first post in the thread pressed the kick button on the troll's post. I came up with this after reading so many worthwhile threads stained with troll droppings and killed off further interest and discussions. Please feel free to comment. Cheers!
  9. Those around my age will surely remember the infamous "kungfu kick"... http://sg.yfittopostblog.com/2011/03/04/i-...s-eric-cantona/ What a thing to say at the Sports School, but anyways, that's Cantona being true to his character. Looking back at the incident, he could've just retaliated verbally against the crystal palace fan. Words against words, and let the fan be the one who's provoked enough to jump over the barricade and into the field... But I guess some of us would be able to sympathise - we each have our own "Cantona moment", over-react (on hindsight), but definitely have no regrets!
  10. Hi All I recently changed from Bridgestone RE001 to Dunlop Sport Maxx (not TT). This morning, roads all wet as was raining. I noticed dat with the dunlop, when i jam brake just a bit, the ABD kicks in quite easily. With my RE001, only once did my ABS kick in and that was in a really hard braking situation (in fron of with the 5 cars not so lucky and got into a chain collision, i escaped). Does this mean the dunlops not so good cos lose grip more easily triggering the ABS. Quite scary. All constructive info/opinions welcome. Thanks.
  11. As age catches up, I realise that I am driving more sensibily and more patient on the road. The every hand wave `thank you' to those who gave way to me makes me feel even more so to be a responsible driver. Hey, I'm no angel too. I had my fair share of making mistakes on the road and irritating other road users with my irresponsible driving habits, just like many of us. Well, isn't it true that its always the fault of others and never yourself when it comes to road aggression? I feel that we should start to think of our habits on the road and what our actions may cause to others, especially when the holiday seasons are coming, drinking merrily and driving crazily. Its time to help each other make the roads safer and don't be the cause of accidents. Everyone has a family. Think for others please. If you are the cause, and if someone dies or seriously hurt, their family will be heartbroken, and you will regret forever. So, before you attempt another one of those bad habits, I hope your thoughts are out for the road users you are affecting. I like to start a list of bad habits most of us are guilty of and hey, maybe its a good idea that our New Year resolution is to change all that :) If you agree with me, please add to the list, anything that irritates you on the road. Hopefully all of us will be sensible and start thinking and responding positively on the road. Happy Driving!! The list of bad habits by motorists:- 1) road hogging 2) drivers who follow too closely behind 3) those who likes to swerve in and out, bloody dangerous! 4) fog lamp users (seriously, your cars dun look more macho, but more irritating) 5) those who likes to brake hard 6) those who likes to slow down near to an accident, and itself nearly causing an accident. 7) those who r lazy to put signal lights while turning on the second turning lane which is meant also for going straight 8) those who fails to stop when turning and allow pedestrians to cross the roads first. Major potential accident! 9) those who do not like to turn on headlights in covered carparks, but strangely turn them on at night haha. Honestly, most covered carparks are dimly lit, day or night. 10) those who likes to show off when there are ladies in their car... and they may not like it. Pls add to this list and share with everyone :)
