  2. So many brands of Smart TV and so many models in the market, see until blur... Some recommend only buy LG and Samsung, one salesman swear by Sony, another one say Phillips better, the more I listen, the more confused I get... If looking for an under $1500 55" Smart 4k LED TV (whether with inbuilt Android or not), what do you guys recommend? TIA
  3. Are LED lights subject to brightness checks? Sources: https://www.straitstimes.com/forum/letters-on-the-web/led-lights-on-cars-can-cause-momentary-blindness Many new cars are being fitted with LED lights. While LED lights come with benefits, such as being more energy-efficient, long-lasting and are cheaper, their main drawback is that they are too bright. Often, they can cause momentary blindness for drivers on the road. More often than not, many drivers on the road at night are tired after a long day at work and are eager to drive home quickly. Add to that the glare from these lights, and the driver's judgment may be impaired momentarily, leading to an accident. Does the Land Transport Authority conduct quality checks to regulate the appropriate use of such lights? Action ought to be taken against drivers who deliberately switch to their high beam to irritate other road users.
  4. Members, are we able to install such LED lights on our own? Or are there any workshops that could customize such lights for you? Can open door, then it will light up a not? Haha.
  5. So someone wrote into ST forum to say that "LED white lights make driving at night a hazard" https://str.sg/JBcA "As more vehicles and streetlights are installed with white LED bulbs, driving at night has become uncomfortable and hazardous. As a driver, I have often been momentarily blinded by the glare in my rear-view mirror from cars with such headlights. Alongside the road, the strong white glare from the streetlights becomes distracting for drivers as the brightness competes with the vehicle lights on the road. I noticed LED streetlights do not diffuse as well as the warmer, more orange streetlights of the past. Hence, there is high contrast between bright white spots and the dark background. In terms of area covered, the old lights seem to do a better job. I hope the Land Transport Authority will review the use of LED white lights on streetlights and regulate their use in vehicles." Do people generally feel that night driving is uncomfortable and hazardous with LEDs? Personally, I have no issues with LEDs in the rear view mirrors. Only time I get blinded is from the LED of the car in opposite direction, especially if I am going down-slope and the car with LED is going up-slope. As for LED streetlights, just brightens up the road, the orange lights are just too dim, really "pales in comparison". If LEDs are too bright, then why not install orange light for the F1 night race?
  6. To any one who knows about electricity. I want to change my LED ceiling light. So bought a new one. Powerpac brand. 2nd pic I opened up my old ceiling LED light and realised the wires are "built in" into the LED lamp. See pic. Can see that the light is burnt. Hence got to change. How do I remove the wires from the old light SAFELY?
  7. My roc is currently on halogen lights. Can I just purchase this to change the lights to LED? http://www.auto-lighting.co.uk/product-eng-5308-Interior-Car-LED-bulbs-replacement-kit-for-VOLKSWAGEN-SCIROCCO-9pcs-cool-white-6000K.html
  8. Any Bro knows where to install LED light strips for headlights? It's the fad these days. I saw some vehicles having the white "eye liner" day running lights in their head lamps. Some are new cars like the Audi, Mercs, Volvo. But some are after market. Anyone knows where to install? I bought mine online. But don't know who can install. Your help and comments appreciated. Cheers.

  11. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/halogen-light-bulbs-to-be-phased-out-all-lamps-sold-to-be-as-10866584 SINGAPORE: In an effort to spur consumers to switch to energy efficient bulbs, the National Environment Agency (NEA) is raising what is known as the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) of light bulbs, which will effectively phase out halogen lamps. The agency is aiming for all light bulbs in Singapore to be, minimally, as energy efficient as LED bulbs from 2023 onwards, it said in a media release on Friday (Oct 26). Under the current MEPS regulations, halogen or incandescent bulbs, which account for about 5 per cent of all regulated lamps sold in Singapore, must attain a one-tick rating, and LED bulbs must attain a two-tick rating. From Nov 1, 2019, all bulbs, incandescent or LED, must attain a two-tick rating on their Energy Label when brought into Singapore for sale. Anyone who flouts the MEPS regulations when they come into force will be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding S$10,000. The NEA will also introduce two enhancements to the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) - more than 80 per cent of lamps sold in Singapore will be covered, and displaying of energy labels in all publicity materials, physical or digital, is now mandatory. These will take effect on Nov 1, 2019. “It is important for consumers to be able to differentiate energy-saving products, such as LED lamps, from less energy efficient products," said Mr William Song, the sales marketing head at LEDVANCE, a lighting supplier. "This allows them to make informed choices and benefit from the greater durability, light quality and lower energy consumption of LED lamps, which results in cost savings for families in the long run.

  14. Hi Bros Just got a new ride from Toyota with 5 year warranty. Does installation by wiring third party items like DVR recorder and Leg Room LED tied to door switch void the warranty under BM? I requested them to add on wires instead of tampering with the original wire in car. When I call BM they say anything you don't do with BM is void warranty. Any bro experience servicing from them? Will they inspect all these and be quick to indicate your warranty is voided? Planning to go next week. Thanks in advance.

  18. I am driving a MPV and when doing parking at a dimly area, difficult to see the parking lot marking lines on both sides. The reverse lights are not bright enough for such purpose and only shine at the rear. I had seen MPV's installed with LED light at both sides of the rear wheels mudguard and when they engage reverse gear, both side lighted up and can see the side lines of a parking lot. Any brother here got any shop(s) lobang to recommend for installation of LED light on rear wheels mudguard. Thanks for sharing.

I am wondering if the advertised philips LED x-treme ultinon or LED ultinon require any retrofit if I were to replace the headlights bulb? Any place to recommend to change them and will it pass LTA inspection in future? http://www.philips.com.sg/content/dam/master/lighting-philips/automotive/car-lights-apr/leaflets/LED_EN.pdf

  25. Interesting... I din know that a LED bulb can fit into our regular bulb holder. For over 100 years, the light bulb didn't evolve much, generally sporting the same, well, bulbous design ever since Thomas Edison gave us the original in 1879. Lately that's changed as LEDs and CFLs have challenged the conventional bulb, and now Philips is taking light bulb design in a new, flatter direction. The SlimStyle looks like a light bulb that's hit the gym. It emits light at a brightness equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb, but it's powered by an LED (light-emitting diode), meaning it consumes just 10.5 watts. It also has a rated lifetime of 22 years, so you can count the number of times you'd need to change the bulb in a human lifetime on one hand. See also: 14 Google Tools You Didn't Know Existed The most novel thing about the SlimStyle, though, is its design. At first glance, it looks shaped like a regular bulb, but when you look at it from the side you can see how slim it is. It still fits in a normal socket, so it's not overly thin, but it's definitely unusual — and easier to screw in. I got a little hands-on time with the SlimStyle. The light it produces is as warm as an incandescent bulb and it's extremely consistent, with no flicker. It feels more durable, too, with an exterior that's more like hard plastic than glass (though I didn't stress-test it). Unlike some of those twisty CFL bulbs, The LED-based SlimStyle is dimmable. LED lights are considered by many to be the most promising candidate to fully replace the incandescent bulb since they consumer far less power and don't have the trace amounts of toxic mercury found in CFL bulbs. Starting Jan. 1 they'll get a big boost when a federal law goes into effect that will make it illegal to manufacture or import traditional 60- or 40-watt incandescents. "Right now we're at a really exciting point because LED bulbs have started to break the $10 mark, and fall well below it once you factor in subsidies," says Sal Cangeloso, author of LED Lighting: A Primer to Lighting the Future. "We're still not at the point of mass adoption — it's not entirely clear where that is — but right now we have two significant factors coinciding: dropping prices and the the phase-out of 40W and 60W incandescents going into effect." The Philips SlimStyle bulb goes on sale January 2 exclusively at HomeDepot.com.
