Official drawings of the 2019 Mazda3 – keep in mind that at this time, we don’t know if it will be sold as a 2019MY or 2020MY in the U.S.A. and Canada. The new “3” will employ Mazda’s latest Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. The platform is said to be stronger while providing a much better ride quality. But the big news for the fourth-generation “3” is the debut of Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X gasoline enginefeaturing Spark Controlled Compression Ignition. This innovative four-cylinder unit combines characteristics of diesel and regular gasoline engines, using spark plug ignition to “control compression ignition”. In short, it ignites the fuel-air mixture similar to a diesel engine promising to combine the fuel efficiency of the former with all the benefits of a gasoline unit, without the emissions penalty. Mazda forecasts an output of around 190 horsepower with 170 lb-ft (230Nm) of peak torque from the 2.0-liter version. That puts it well above today’s 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G that delivers 155hp and 150 lb-ft (203Nm) and on par with the bigger 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G with 184hp and 185 lb-ft (250Nm). The difference here is that Mazda is targeting at least a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy and up to 25 percent less carbon dioxide emissions over the current Skyactive G engines. Now you know what caused the huge jam on PIE on 11th of Jan

Anyone got stuck on PIE last evening for more than an hour and half? A few of us in the team did so, no thanks to someone who swerved out at the last minute, causing an accident that required a huge cleaning-up effort from the authorities. Thanks to SG Road Vigilante, we now know what caused the accident which happened at PIE's Steven Road exit in the direction of Jurong, at 630pm. While the accident itself didn't cause any serious injury, it is obvious that the Mazda 3 driver was at fault. According to the comments online, it does look like he or she was trying to avoid a frontal collision in his/her own lane by swerving into lane 2 but that unfortunately meant that the 2 motorcyclists that were lane-spliting, had to fall due to such a move. Kudos to both the tipper truck and the Malaysian van for being reactive to what was happening in front of them! -
Unmarked Mazda 3 Traffic Police car nabs Malaysian bike

Now this is one heartening sight! Our local police force is working hard to catch bad-behaving vehicles on our roads! Seen on SG Road Vigilante is this video of an unmarked Traffic Police vehicle zooming up fast on the AYE towards Tuas to catch a motorbike on 13th of December 2020. We can't really see why the bike was being stopped but according to the source, it is a Malaysian-registered bike with a mini rear number plate. While having such a number plate is an offence in our sunny island, we thought the police might also be catching the biker for a speeding offence or having a loud exhaust. As for the rest of us, we now know when you see a white Mazda 3, it might not be a Private Hire Vehicle but an Unmarked Traffic Police car! -

We have no idea what to make of this. Shot on the 3rd of October 2020 at the junction of East Coast Road and Siglap Road, an accident occoured between a blue Mazda3 and a couple of motorcyclists. As we can see from the video posted by SG Road Vigilante, the Mazda simply veered slowly out of his lane before crashing into a Deliveroo and McDonalds delivery rider who were waiting to do a right turn at the junction. We are ashamed to say with it happening all very leisurely, the whole incident did looked slightly funny. Our apologies! Could the driver have fallen asleep while driving slowly or was he just playing with his phone and not concentrating on where he was going?

Also to share some information: Some of the new mazda 3 mild hybrid owners who recently collected since last december, regardless of trim/body(hatch or sedan), you might have realised that you have speed limit displayed on your active driving display (aka HUD). This feature is not officially available in singapore market. I have reached out to mazda for an official reply, unfortunately they could only explain that works are in progress to make that feature available.. Therefore, those who got the feature now could be erroneously activated by the technical team either from factory or from service centre, in my opinion as mazda refused to give a straight forward answer to this question.

Of course, a round of hazing is necessary to initiate the fresh blood, and we do so courtesy of the boot of the Mazda3! Just kidding. The Mazda's 444 litre boot space is apparently good enough to fit two Jons. But as with any family hauler, space in the rear bench is just as important, and does the Mazda succeed? With flying colours apparently! Those that keep up with our reviews will be well aware that the new Mazda3 has made great strides in interior quality, and likewise, our producers seems fairly impressed with the build quality up at the front. Hoping to see a hot version of the new sleek-looking Mazda3? Unfortunately, Mazda has declared that it has no plans for such a vehicle. According to Cars Guide, Mazda's head of Global Development and Product Planning Hiroyuki Matsumoto was asked about whether a high-performance Mazda3 could be a possibility. “We are capable of creating engine to answer such demands for more power, but at the moment we have no plan to do it,” he replied. It is no surprise that the company has no interest in performance version of the 3 despite the car's Program Manager Kota Beppu, recently saying that he would love to see the return of the Mazda3 MPS. While this is just a guess from us, it does seems like Mazda would rather concentrate its efforts on pushing itself more upmarket than spending money on making hot hatches. Meanwhile, closer to our shores, the new Mazda3 will be launching officially soon and will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine that is paired to a mild hybrid system.

Hi guys, Am looking around used Mazda 3 and here are my observation on the 2nd gen, which I appreciate if current/ex owners can clarify 1) 2013 year have this "SP" and lower OMV/ARF of 16k, while 2012 year and earlier is around 20k. What caused the significant drop? 2) For the models 2012 and earlier, there is two trim level - "Normal" and "Luxury". I cant find any information online on the trim level difference, what is the extra specification found on Luxury? 3) Does either trim come with ESP?

Saw this car near Aeon Tebrau with the driver door damaged and parked on the kerb in odd position. Seen on 13Aug16 morning. Just trying my luck to see if the owner has lost the car or something else.

Helping a friend find witness for her accident. The following is her account. Anyone who witness the accident can please drop me a PM. Or alternatively, can help make a statement at any police station. Thanks. Accident on 9 April 2016, around 3.15pm, at a relatively busy cross junction between Commonwealth Ave West and North Buona Vista Road. My vehicle SGV 1821S was turning right on green traffic arrow towards North Buona Vista road and a vehicle number SJB92E just dashed straight and we collided at 90 degree. I was bleeding but I managed to hop out of car to the pedestrian side traffic lights. The other party (uncle in striped red and blue t-shirt in 1 of the left hand side of my pictures) only cared about snapping pictures of the accident. I hopped out and the uncle upon seeing me, shouted at me saying why I never slow down n give way to him. He claimed his lights was green. I told him that his lights couldn't be green as my green right turn traffic light was on and not even blinking. After which, he ignored me and continued snapping pictures despite I was bleeding and limping. His wife just sat inside the car fiddling with her phone and showed a black face. He didn't even try to call police. I struggled and call police on my own n asked for ambulance. The other party wanted to claim all against me and insisted all fault on me. I was sole driver with no car camera. The other party was with his wife and their car had no car camera too.There is a LTA camera at the cross junction but Traffic Police said they are not sure if the footage is working. I suffered 1 cm cut and 3 stitches on chin, swollen left arm with bruises and abrasions, 3 molar teeth chipped, and 4 broken toes on right foot. The other party and wife were totally unharmed. I am appealing to kind souls who had witnessed the accident. Thank you very much.

Hi, Am thinking of upsizing my new Mazda3 from 16" to 19", as i absolutely love the looks. Specific question is, if i am not a heavy foot and speedy driver, how big is the impact on take off, acceleration, and fuel consumption? Is the car going to be horribly sluggish? I am aware of the harder, noisier and bumpier ride. I just love the look. And there's an original Mazda 19" available at a shop. Original is 205/60-R16 , 16"x6.5 , offset 50. The change will be to 19"x7.0 , offset 50 and available tyre options at the shop are 235/35-R19 (-0.8%) or 225/40-R19 (+1.5%). Please advise. Many thanks.

Has a manual unlock button. Gramps got flustered and couldn't find it. Lucky for them it all worked out and we can have a laugh about it.

This is probably one of the more important head to head comparisons for this year as two of our mid-size sedan favourites come together for another round of battle. With sedans being Singaporeans' favourite body style, we decide which is the better car to own. With only 3bhp separating both of them, you would expect both to have similar performance. This was not the case as the Altis felt slightly livelier and has a better appetite for revs. However, the Mazda3 has a smoother powerplant and when paired with the responsive six-speed automatic, it still offers decent pace for most. While CVT gearboxes are known to 'slip' when asked to accelerate hard, the Altis's new Super CVT-i gearbox minimises the effect with good results. When it comes to the twisties, the Mazda3 is the clear victor with a nicely judged ride and a direct steering. The Altis fights back with better insulation when it comes to cruising at highway speeds. While not as agile as the Mazda3, the Altis is in a totally different league as compared to its predecessor, which had too cushy a ride. Inside, the Mazda3 scores again with its better fit and finish. Its impressive equipment, like for example, the Active Driving Display, the MZD Connect touchscreen system and its Commander Control knob elevates it into a higher class. However, the Altis still triumphs in terms of overall space. So which one is the better car? Read our full review to find out.

Mazda will recall 88,000 vehicles which are fitted with the marque's proprietary i-ELOOP energy recovery system. A spokesperson for Mazda USA has confirmed that up to 88,000 cars will be involved in this recall, citing the "control program that is designed to protect the capacity is reacting hyper sensitively when the alternator belt gets wet and slippage occurs". This will affect the car's acceleration, and in more severe cases the glitch will cause the engine to stall. However, the company has assured that no accidents or injuries has been caused by the fault. It is unsure if the models imported into Singapore are affected by this round of recall.
