  1. Mercedes-AMG GT R Discontinued After 2021: Report source: https://www.motor1.com/news/461538/mercedes-amg-gt-r-discontinued/ Order banks for the GT R will allegedly close by the end of this year. For several years, the hottest Mercedes-AMG GT you could get was the GT R. Then came the Black Series, which did more than just supplant the GT R as the hottest car in the GT family. It set a new record as the fastest overall production car at the Nürburgring, which is unreal for a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive machine. Now, it could be pushing the GT R out of existence. That's the word according to a video report from Allcarnews on YouTube, which states the GT R will disappear after the 2021 model year. The source is an alleged email sent to Mercedes-Benz dealerships stating the former GT flagship was discontinued for 2021. Furthermore, order banks for 2021 model-year GT Rs are said to close forever on December 29, with any existing orders not being converted to 2022. The email featured in the video looks legitimate, but we've contacted Mercedes-Benz for an official confirmation and we'll let you know if/when we receive that. At approximately $163,000, the AMG GT R isn't a cheap car by any means. However, it's in a completely different financial universe compared to the lineup's new flagship, the GT Black Series. Pricing for that car starts at $325,000 – nearly double the MSRP for the GT R. The extra cash doesn't give you double the horsepower, but the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 under the long hood is a completely different animal. Its flat-plane-crank design that redlines at 7,200 rpm and generates 730 hp (537 kW), all sent to the rear wheels. With gobs of aero tweaks, upgraded suspension, and a carbon fiber diet, it laps the 'Ring in 6 minutes, 43.6 seconds. As for the rest of the GT line, the base model just received a power boost to 523 hp (385 kW). That brings the GT much closer to GT R performance, and with the Black Series serving as the flagship, cutting some fat from the AMG lineup does make sense. The AMG GT family is also getting along in years, having debuted for the 2015 model year so don't be surprised to see more extensive changes in the near future.
  2. https://www.motor1.com/news/513982/2022-mercedes-amg-gt-4-door-revealed/ And the 63 models get a new adaptive suspension setup. You might not know it at first glance, but this is the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The company updated its performance sedan for the upcoming year, making minor changes to the exterior design and interior layout, plus Mercedes added a sharp new Manufaktur Exclusive Edition to the range and a handful of additional color options. The Manufaktur Exclusive Edition is a first for the GT 4-Door Coupe and makes its debut in the US atop the GT 53 model. The exterior wears a handsome shade of Rubellite Red metallic, joined by a silver chrome exterior package, and trim-specific 21-inch AMG wheels. The interior sports a Neva Grey Exclusive Nappa leather with Ash wood trim, and a new AMG Performance steering wheel. And all versions of the 2022 GT 4-Door get a new AMG Performance steering wheel with a twin-spoke design up top, drive mode dials, and seamlessly integrated buttons. Buyers can choose from Nappa leather or Nappa with Dinamica suede for the wheel itself, with heating available on six-cylinder variants and standard on V8 models. The rest of the cabin gets a variety of new interior leather options like Sienna Brown, Classic Red, Yacht Blue, Deep White, and the aforementioned Neva Grey. Shoppers can also splurge on Exclusive Nappa Leather in Titanium Grey Pearl with yellow contrast stitching, or Exclusive Auburn Brown Nappa leather with black diamond stitching. And for the first time, the GT 4-Door now offers a five-seat configuration with an optional rear bench. The 43 and 53 models use the same turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engines with EQ Boost as they did before, good for 362 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 429 horsepower (320 kilowatts), respectively. The GT 43 will hit 60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds, while the GT 53 gets there in a quicker 4.4 seconds. As for the V8-powered 63 and 63 S models, Mercedes-AMG says that it will release engine information at a later date. What we do know about the upcoming V8 model is that it will get a totally reworked adaptive suspension. The updated AMG Ride Control Plus now uses two pressure limiting valves to control the multi-chamber air suspension setup. One valve manages rebound damping, while the other controls compression damping. Mercedes says that the new suspension will make the GT 4-Door even nicer to drive in Comfort mode and a better performer in Sport and Sport Plus modes. The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door family will hit dealerships sometime later this fall. The company hasn't released pricing details yet, but expect an increase all around. The current GT 4-Door starts at $89,900 for the base 43 model.
  3. The new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S is not going to be the most affordable hot hatch on sale when it comes into town. So is it better than before? When the first A 45 AMG went on sale in 2013 locally, it was the fastest hot hatch in the market and everyone took notice. Fast forward to the present, Mercedes-AMG has launched the second generation A 45 AMG globally and CarWow had the opportunity to test it against its older generation. With 415bhp being churned out from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, the new car was always going to be faster than its 360bhp pre-facelifted predecessor. But is it also better to drive and live with?
  4. Lewis Hamilton recorded his first hat-trick victory of his career as well as in the Chinese circuit and, in the process, led the Mercedes AMG team to another dominant victory for the third consecutive time in the 2014 season. At the end of the 54 laps, Hamilton crossed the chequered flags 18 seconds ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg, in the other silver arrows, and 23 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari - the first podium finish for the Italian team in 2014, delivered in front of new Team Principal, Marco Mattiacci. Like in the previous two races in Malaysia and Bahrain, it was a leisurely cruise for the Brit after sprinting ahead of the rest of the grid, as the Mercedes team executed a flawless two-stop strategy. Besides a mild error before his first pit stop where Hamilton slid wide at Turn 14, it was an effortless race. Rosberg recovered from a poor start to aid in Mercedes' podium dominance once again, while Alonso defended the briskly charging Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo in the closing laps to secure the last spot on the podium. The other Ferrari at the hands of Kimi Raikkonen had a quiet race and managed a best of eight after starting off the grid in 11th. Felipe Massa's impressive start off the line was short lived after trying to squeeze into a gap too small for his Williams and banged wheels with his former teammate's Ferrari. After the minor incident and a botched first pit stop which involved a mix-up of rear tyres - the Williams driver crossed the line in 15th. His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, was also lucky to survive his first corner incident after making contact with Rosberg, who had a terrible start and had to fight past Massa and Nico Hulkenberg on the first lap to get into fifth. Defending champion, Sebastian Vettel, was once again outperformed by his teammate and had to settle for fifth. McLaren had another weekend to forget after its drivers crossed the line out of points classification in 11th and 13th respectively. The F1 circus heads to Barcelona in around three weeks, with Rosberg marginally leading the drivers' championship over Hamilton and Alonso at 79, 75 and 41 points respectively. In the constructors' charts, Mercedes with 154 points are clear of Red Bull and Force India with 57 and 54 points respectively.
  5. The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG Coupe will have its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in April 2014, as the most powerful member of the BlueDIRECT engine family. The 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine boasts an output of 585bhp and 900Nm of torque - linked to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission. This allows the performance Gran Tourer to accelerate from nought to 100km/h under 4.3 seconds, and on to reach a governed top speed of 250km/h. With a combined figure of 10.1L/100km - the two-door model is the most fuel-efficient model in its competitive segment. The S 63 AMG Coupe is lighter by 65kg - thanks to a lighter lithium-ion battery, forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimised braking system. Furthermore, the entire outer skin and the front end of the body are made of aluminium. There are two variants of the S 63 AMG Coupe - with rear-wheel drive or with AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. With the 4MATIC system, 67 percent of the power is sent to the rear axle and the rest to the front. For the suspension - the rear-wheel drive AMG Coupe is equipped with MAGIC BODY CONTROL, while the all-wheel drive variant features the AIRMATIC system with the adaptive damping system ADS PLUS. Inside the car, high-quality materials and fine workmanship are combined with a sporty, exclusive design idiom. The newly developed AMG sports seats offer the driver and front passenger optimum lateral support. One particularly exclusive model in the range is the S 63 AMG Coupe 'Edition 1', which will be available a year after market launch. Swarovski crystals in the LED headlamps (not the one above) lend the car an irresistible look, while the cabin is trimmed in exclusive nappa leather with contrast topstitching. The roof liner and the sun screens are in DINAMICA microfibre. Further features include AMG Exclusive floor mats, door sill panels with illuminated AMG lettering and a high-gloss black poplar wood trim. Also included is an 'Edition 1' branding on the sports steering wheel.
  6. As the five red lights went off at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit in Australia yesterday afternoon, the high-revving, high-octane sport of Formula One entered a new era. Lining up on the grid were probably some of the appalling (and vulgar) cars the highest class of motorsports has ever witnessed. 22 turbocharged 1.6-litre hybrid racers set off, but only 15 saw the dance of the chequered flags. Felipe Massa's debut in his beautiful, Martini-liveried Williams ended short due to Kamui Kobayashi's clumsy accident in his Caterham with the former in the first lap. In addition, the season opener saw both Lotus cars, the second Caterham, Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes and Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull lost to various technical issues - including total loss of power for the quadruple champion. Ferrari and Torro Rosso were the only works team and Renault-powered team, respectively, to complete the Grand Prix without major hiccups. Mercedes' display of strength was only tainted by pole sitter Lewis Hamilton's retirement on lap three due to a misfiring engine - and it was the sole Mercedes powered car that was lost to a technical issue. Despite the drawbacks, the German national anthem was heard in all its glory once again during the podium ceremony - but for the first time since June 2013, it was compatriot Nico Rosberg (who also coincidentally won the British GP last June) who took the honours. Rosberg denied Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren's rookie, Kevin Magnussen, a place on the top spot of the podium in a style of domination akin to Vettel. Rosberg steered clear of Australian Ricciardo by 24.5 seconds while Danish driver, Magnussen, marked an impressive debut on his maiden F1 outing by not only finishing third but also ahead of his teammate - former world champion Jenson Button - who rose up the grid from starting at tenth. The Ferrari 'dream' team of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen had a decent race - although nothing memorable after finishing fifth and eighth respectively. Post race, the season opener became a nightmare for the defending quadruple champions after second-place finish Ricciardo was disqualified from the race. The decision came about after his car was considered to be in breach of fuel flow regulations. According to a FIA sensor which was fitted to the car, the Red Bull exceeded the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100kg/hr, and after over five hours of negotiations - the stewards eventually ruled the car was run illegally. According to the ruling body, the car was not only in breach of the fuel flow regulation but apparently the team was found not to be compliant with technical regulations throughout the event. Naturally, Red Bull has made clear its intentions to appeal the decision.
  7. Mercedes-AMG (Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach) GmbH has reported 2013 to be its most-successful year with up to 32,200 AMG models sold. The German firm recorded strong demand in its three biggest markets U.S., Germany and U.K., last year driven by new products and the extension of its distribution network. Among the factors driving this growth was the broad introduction of the 4MATIC, all-wheel drive system, and the introduction of the facelifted E 63 and CLS 63 AMGs. There was also increasing demand for AMG’s SUV models and the new compact cars - the A 45 and CLA 45 AMG. The product offensive is rounded off by the recently introduced S 63 AMG. Through the introduction of the CLA 45 AMG Mercedes-AMG was able to steadily increase its sales in the USA market, with a growth of around 20 percent. AMG’s two main European markets, Germany and the U.K. posted strong sales, despite the overall market weakness in the EU, and exceeded their 2013 sales targets. The dynamic growth has been made possible by the expansion of the product range and entering attractive new segments. With the sporty A 45 AMG, the CLA 45 AMG and the GLA 45 AMG, Mercedes-AMG is offering three new entry-level models to reach out to new target groups. All three models are equipped with 4MATIC technology and the world’s most powerful four-cylinder production engine. Later this year, AMG plans to enter a new segment with a sports car it has fully developed itself. Founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, today, the former two man company employs a workforce of more than 1,200 at its plant in Affalterbach, and over the past 47 years has become the technological spearhead and a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG.
  8. The all new GLA 45 AMG expands the extensive SUV lineup to five models, and is the third vehicle to feature a rather small four-cylinder turbocharged engine, in a bid to appeal to a younger motoring demographic. The AMG front apron with front splitter and the 'twin blade' radiator grille provide athletic highlights while the distinctive AMG lettering between the louvres of the radiator grille will become a standard feature on all future models - to easily identify the AMG bretherens from stock cars. Personally I think AMG is just trying to replicate what BMW or Audi does with their 'M' and 'RS' badges respectively. The side sill panels with matte titanium grey inserts, the 'Turbo AMG' insignia on the front wings and the aluminium roof rails lend the compact SUV a special touch. The diffuser insert with matte titanium grey trim and the rectangular chrome-plated tailpipe dominate the aesthetics of the rump. I don't know why but I think the hatchback shape works better with the GLA than the A-Class? I have not been a fan of modern Mercedes styling but I think the GLA is more attractive than the X1 and the Q3 from BMW and Audi respectively. Although it is not as funky as the Juke, it carries the A-Class desgn language well, albeit in a slightly chubby body that well complements the 'urban SUV' look. The speed sensitive three-spoke sports steering wheel ensures high steering precision and agility, while stopping power is provided via vented, cross-drilled brake discs highlighted by grey or red brake callipers. The hand-assembled 2.0-litre turbo with an impressive 360bhp and adequete 450Nm of torque, helps the GLA achieve its century sprint in a brisk 4.8 seconds before climbing to a governed top speed of 250km/h. The GLA 45 AMG comes with variable AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard for optimal traction. Under normal conditions, the GLA 45 AMG transmits power to the front wheels, but when conditions require, the torque is split between the front and rear axles to a 50:50 ratio. The SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed sports transmission features three distinct transmission modes, a double-declutching function and a 'Race Start' function for the best off-the-line acceleration. The shift times in manual mode 'M' and sport mode 'S' are similar in character to those on the range-topping SLS AMG GT! That is a pretty cool feat isn't it? The GLA 45 AMG is not all focused on performance though, as it returns a decent 13.3km/L while emitting 175g/km of CO2, on top of complying with Euro6 emissions standards. As in all AMG models, the interior boasts high quality appeal, combined with sporty flair and exclusive equipment features. Sports seats are finished in Artico faux leather and Dinamica microfibre with contrasting topstitching while the instrument panel is adorned with brushed aluminium. Expressive and exclusive: the GLA 45 AMG 'Edition 1' Along with the GLA 45 AMG, an 'Edition 1' model is also available offering a high-gloss black Aerodynamics package with larger front splitter, additional flics in the front apron, and rear aerofoil for an uncompromising racetrack feel. The silver grey/red AMG racing stripes on the vehicle sides are complemented by red highlights and perfectly matched red painted brake callipers. The AMG Night package is also part of the standard equipment, as is the 'Edition 1' badge on the front wing. The interior is dominated by the colours black and red while an E-SELECT lever is embossed with the AMG emblem along with the addition of the ‘Edition 1’ badge on the AMG DRIVE UNIT.
  9. 30 years after his father claimed victory, Nico Rosberg took the highest step of the podium at the Monaco Grand Prix - fighting off stiff competition from title defender Sebastian Vettel. Rosberg - a resident of Monaco - managed to fend off Vettel till the end while Webber completed the podium despite sustained pressure from Hamilton. A pit stop strategy worked well for the Red Bull team to leap ahead of Hamilton, during the first safety car period - trigged by Massa at lap 30 who managed to replicate a crash similar to Saturday
  10. You know what they say, "Do whatever you want, just don't get caught!" Unfortunately (or thankfully, perhaps), these teenage car thieves in the United Kingdom don't seem quite knowledgeable about such a saying. Instead, these thieves just seemed so proud of their 'stealing' ability that they even shot pictures of themselves with the cars they had successfully stolen. What amazes me more is that they even posted the pictures on Facebook, a world renowned social media, and on their phones! This led the local police to catch them red-handed, or should I say, 'bread-handed' (you'll see why). It's a real 'shame' to the world of Grand Theft Auto. Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, it reminds me of the action adventure packed car theft game, the latest trailer of which will be shown on 30th April 2013. Alright, let's get back to topic. To be honest with you, these teenagers, aged from 18-23 years old, were quite an expert indeed. Comprising eight members, they managed to successfully steal nine high performance sports cars that were, and still are, very expensive. Porsches, Range Rovers, BMWs, and a Mercedes Coupe worth
  11. Mercedes AMG has just taken the wraps off the all new 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine for the 2014 Formula One season. The engine will replace the current naturally aspirated 2.4-litre V8 unit in order to comply with the revised engine formula. Mercedes' new F1 engine is expected to produce about 600bhp with the assistance of two electric motors that features a new energy recovery system (ERS). One of the motors provides an additional 161bhp to the car while the other helps to spool up the engine's turbo or topping up the batteries. Alongside with the announcement of the new engine, Mercedes AMG has also announced the extension of its supply agreement with Sahara Force India F1 team. Under the deal, Mercedes will supply Force India the internal combustion engine with ERS, transmission and all associated ancillary systems. Mercedes' revealing comes after Renault, which is the first to show off its new F1 engine under the new regulations. It develops about 750bhp.
  12. Like Jeremy Renner's character from the Academy Award winning film - The Hurt Locker - the Red Bull and Mercedes AMG racing teams were clouded in tension as their drivers were getting increasingly frustrated by team orders and driver rivalry. More than skill or strategy - frustrations between team mates and radio messages spilled out the plot of the Malaysian Grand Prix from the end of the middle stint. In the Mercedes AMG camp, Nico Rosberg missed a podium appearance by obeying instructions to not challenge his team mate and personal friend - Hamilton - from Team Principle Ross Brawn. The eventful and tense Malaysian Grand Prix could have ended in disaster for the Austrian-U.K. racing team. Defending champion Vettel ignored team orders - which post-race claimed he was unaware of, and 'stole' a rightful win away from Webber by racing him unexpectedly. At that stint of the race Webber was 'coasting' his car to the end of the race and wasn't prepared for an attack by his team mate. Vettel's radio message from his team could not have been sharper or clearer to the millions of motorsport enthusiasts the world over as he crossed the finishing line, "Great job Sebastian, it looked like you wanted it more. But still there'll be some explaining to do." The green room and podium were showing a multitude of emotions as all three winners felt glum, gloomy, anger, frustration, disappointment and remorse. Despite all the tension, the race staged its fair share of incidents - starting with Alonso whose race ended at the end of the first lap, after his mildly damaged front wing broke off completely and sent him skidding into a gravel trap. Force India retired both their cars after a pit stop error involving a wheel nut. Button retired as well while his team mate Perez contributed two points to the team by bringing home his McLaren in ninth. Nostalgia hit third place winner Hamilton during a pit stop as he 'accidentally' pulled in at his former team - McLaren's - pit box. The McLaren crew were all set to receive Button before Hamilton came in on lap seven. Fortunately Hamilton completed his pit-stop in the right garage and resumed his fight for the lead. Last week's race winner Raikkonen and the Lotus team in general seemed to lack pace despite finishing a respectable seventh behind his team mate. Massa on the other hand finished a credible fifth in the sole prancing horse after a weak start and a surprisingly unimpressive middle stint. At the end of the race Vettel leads the drivers' championship at 40 points while Kimi Raikkonen and Mark Webber trail the German at 31 and 26 points respectively. On the constructors championships, Red Bull is leading at 66 points while Lotus and Ferrari are currently tied at 40 points as the F1 circus heads to China in three weeks.
  13. Mercedes Benz has officially previewed the AMG version of the recently launched C-Class Coupe. The car, officially called the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Coupe is the C-Class coupe on steroids (engine as well as a slightly more aggressive bodykit) and it comes with a normally aspirated 6.2liter much like the one found in the SL63, CLK63 previously and not the latest 5.5liter V8 twin turbocharged AMG lump found in some other Mercedes Benz AMG cars like the latest CLS63 AMG. I am surprised, I thought the new C63 Coupe would also succumb to downsizing in cubic capacity due to environmental concerns, but it looks like AMG is as mental as before, and I like it. So, AMG gives a one finger salute to those expecting it to be politically/environmentally correct and keeps the manic normally aspirated monster of an engine. The 6.2liter normally aspirated V8 engne in its latest specification will produce 451bhp and about 600Nm of torque. This is definifely more than what its closest normally aspirated rivals make (think BMW M3 and Audi RS5). Of course, there is no substitute for cubic inches as they all say and the Mercedes V8 certainly outguns the 4.0liter and 4.2 liter lumps that the BMW and Audi have respectively. It also adds to a whole lot of road tax too as it is more than 2000cc over the BMW. But that is the price to pay for some Awsomely Mega Grunt. Isn't it. And that extra cc's add megabass too. If you've heard an AMG V8 on song, you'll instantly want one. I want one and the heck with being politically or environmentally correct all the time. Being a little mental is good. Anyway, the awesomely mega grunt that the C63 Coupe makes allows it to hit 0-100km/h in 4.5seconds even with its seven speed Speedshift Automatic transmission
