  1. The latest Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is no doubt the spiritual successor to the original 300SL 'Gullwing' Coupe and Roadster. The styling of the current coupe is debatable though the gullwing doors are still cool and is a refreshing change to butterfly doors like on the McLaren or the trademark Lamborghini Scissor Doors. Yet one professional clay artist from France has used his free time to create his own vision of a modern-day 300 SL. Slimane Toubal, is no stranger to automobile design, having worked with several automakers like Audi, Honda and more recently, at PSA Peugeot-Citroen's China office. Toubal commented on his designs, "I expected the design study to replicate the original 300SL though it looks more SLS AMG based." He has designed both a coupe with the classic 'Gullwing' doors and a hardtop roadster. Design Credits: Slimane Toubal
  2. Sometime this year, there were rumours that Mercedes-Benz was seriously considering a two-door performance model as a possible rival to Porsche's 911 and they might also revive the SLC model (codename R190) name and use it for this particular application. Now it seems that the automaker has been given the green light to produce it which is slated for production by 2015. Not many details were revealed about the new SLC except for its powertrain. Initially rumoured to use one of AMG tuned engines, the front-engined SLC will feature an all-new 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine instead. The new engine is part of Mercedes' future generation engines. These new engines will have a 500 cubic centimetres per cylinder displacement. This means that Mercedes-Benz could either use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre V6 or a 4.0-litre V8 engine in their future cars. Expected horsepower will be lower than the SLS AMG. Not known to us is what badge will the SLC use as nowadays Mercedes car labels have long lost the bearings of the actual capacity under the bonnet. (For example, the new E250 has a 1.8-litre engine) The new SLC will also be smaller in size compared to the SLS AMG. It will first be offered as a coupe and a roadster version will be offered if demands are high enough. The car will utilise Mercedes' current 7-speed dual clutch transmission and expect much light weight parts, such as aluminium, to be utilised interiorly. The original SLC life span didn't last long compared to other Mercedes Benz's models and a revival will increase the automaker's model line-up and place them in fierce contention with rival German manufacturers like Audi and BMW. 3. Talk about technological advancements and Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars will tell you that this creation, the SLS AMG E-Cell, is the most technologically advanced car in its 125 year history. The super car will be put into production in 2013 and instead of the conventional 6.3L V8 petrol powered engine, the SLS AMG E-Cell will have four electric motors which generate 392kW and 880Nm of torque. To put that into perspective, the Tesla Roadster which is not fuel cell powered but battery powered, produces 270Nm of torque and it already goes like a stabbed rat. Now the SLS E-Cell will reach a 100km/h from a standstill in 4 seconds. That is an incredible achievement for a car this size and weight. 4. 2014 is the year to look forward to if you're ogling over this new BMW. Its called the Z9 and its set to take on the mighty Mercedes SLS AMG and Audi's R8. Problem is.. isn't that a bit late for BMW? The well received Merc and the awesome Audi have been lauded upon for their engineering excellence and for their impeccable style. And now, its BMW's turn. The Z9 is meant to replace the now extinct Z8 which was nothing special. Now this, truly looks the part as BMW's flagship supercar to take on the big guns. It will be made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) to save weight which will make the Z9 very light and very strong. It will be an accumulation of BMW's technological and engineering feats with the platform based on the 5, 6 and 7 series. Touchscreen on the interior will be standard and the dash will be cutting edge unlike the retro-inspired Z8. Overall, I think the Z9 looks gorgeous.. Under the hood will lie a new 4.4l twin-turbo sourced from the next M5 and it will develop a heart-pounding 600hp! And of course, it will be equipped with a dual clutch gearbox which will send the power to the rear wheels through a torque vectoring M limited slip differential. Irritatingly, a stop-start will be standard with this car, just like Porsche's Panamera. But it will have brake energy regeneration which I guess would have come from BMW's history in F1. And thats a good thing. An electric version will be on the way as well to rival Audi's e-tron and Merc's electric SLS. Imagine having a drag race with all 3 electric cars, it will be the most deafening silence ever from 3 supercars. And thats the sad fate we all have to face if we want to save our dying Earth..
