  1. Hi all, Let me do a poll here for this thread ... so post your feedback from here onwards ...
  2. ... where do they gather? Anyone got a link to their forum? Searching for "W124" here doesn't turn up much at all. While we're at it, if anyone here has a history of owning the W124 200E, it'd be great to hear about your experience, specifically what possible problems the car might have. I just bought one with COE extended till 2019 you see. While everything in it works fine now, I'd like to know what sort of stuff the car can come up with. Also, it came with a set of really good looking (at least I think so) 18 inch rims fitted, but I'm contemplating sourcing for the original 15 inch rims for it because 1) I can't shake the feeling that this isn't good for its suspension's durability, and 2) is the improvement in handling really worth the sacrifice in ride quality?? I haven't sat in or driven a W124 on stock rims before, so I have nothing to compare this with.
  3. Bro Mustank, specially for you. Since it is from MB, sure got Diesel option. Daimler's Mercedes-Benz arm continues the development work of their first mid-sized pickup truck and our spies were there to catch them in the act. Just like the Renault Alaskan, Mercedes’ new pickup truck is based on the underpinnings of Nissan’s NP300 Navara and will reportedly enter the market under the GLT moniker, starting from 2017. The car you see in the photos is a test mule still carrying a lot of the Nissan’s body panels but we can clearly notice the wider front and rear wheel arches. Unlike other re-badged examples we’ve seen, the GLT is being developed and designed solely from Daimler to meet the specific needs of its customer base in Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin America. The company gave us a good idea of how the final car will look like by releasing a teaser sketch image last year, along with the promise of high levels of utility combined with “the comfort, safety, and design of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car”. Mercedes still considers offering their new pickup in the US and if they do, the GLT will probably be made at Nissan’s factory in Mexico to avoid tarrifs. The company is also going to build it in Renault’s Argentinian facilities and at the Nissan plant in Spain for the regional markets respectively. Expect a range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with entry-level models getting a six-speed manual and the rest a seven-speed automatic gearbox, with power sent to all four wheels permanently.
  4. Mercedes-Benz to axe more than 1,000 jobs in cost-cutting drive source: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/nov/14/mercedes-benz-axe-1000-jobs-cost-cutting-drive-electric-vehicles Move blamed on heavy cost of investing in electric vehicles just as traditional car sales slow Mercedes-Benz plans to save €1.65bn (£1.4bn) by cutting more than 1,000 jobs in the latest sign German carmakers are struggling to make big investments in electric car technology. Carmakers around the world are spending billions on developing battery-powered electric vehicles but at the same time sales of internal combustion engines are slowing in the face of economic weakness and scandals over emissions. Mercedes-Benz’s premium cars division will bear the bulk of the job cuts, its parent company, Daimler, said on Thursday, with cuts of €1bn from its wage bill expected by 2022. Management and contractors will be particularly affected, while the vans and trucks divisions will together cut €650m in staff and other costs. “This will have a negative impact on our earnings in 2020 and 2021. To remain successful in the future, we must therefore act now and significantly increase our financial strength.” Daimler shares fell by 3% in early trading on Wednesday, to €51.97. It made earnings before tax of €10.6bn in 2018 but has given repeated profit warnings during 2019 and analysts forecast earnings before tax of about €6.3bn for 2019, according to average estimates from S&P Global Market Intelligence. As well as the global race for electrification, Daimler faces the prospect of further legal costs in relation to alleged breaches of emissions regulations. The scandal over diesel emissions cheating technology has also dented the rival German carmaker Volkswagen.
  5. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/23/business/daimler-earnings-expectations/index.html New York (CNN Business)Daimler, the German auto company that makes Mercedes-Benz, has slashed its 2019 profit expectations by hundreds of millions of euros. The financial downgrade, announced Sunday, is the latest fallout from the diesel emissions scandal that has rocked the German auto industry. The company said that "various ongoing governmental proceedings and measures relating to diesel vehicles" will affect the company's second quarter earnings. It said it expects an increase in expenses related to those proceedings. Daimler said its profit for 2019 will be close to last year's level. Shares in the carmaker declined 3.6% in Frankfurt on Monday. The stock has dropped nearly 20% from a recent high in April. German automakers have faced years of scrutiny regarding harmful emissions that diesel vehicles produce. That scrutiny stems from a 2015 admission by another German automaker — Volkswagen (VLKAF) — that it rigged millions of diesel engines to cheat on emissions tests. The revelation trashed confidence among consumers and regulators in diesel technology and cost Volkswagen tens of billions of dollars in recalls, legal penalties and settlements. ****** Lets see if there is a large an outcry from merc owners. Will the resale value drop and what will the second hand car dealer use. Merc no resale value. Buyer dont want to be associated with a brand with low integrity ?
  6. I can't decide which one, both are nice in styling in it's own design. Power wise definitely thumbs up on A5, C Coupe not too bad too. Need your kind comments on them, cheers!
  7. Ok now that the process has completed, I would like to share about my latest motoring experience. I have owned a 2015 Vellfire for a year, and due to many reasons I shared previously, decided to change it to 2 small rides. As I did not want to pump in much cash, I could only look at rides of upto $80k each. Good thing the Vellfire was offloaded at very good price, I eventually only need to pump in another $10k. Now what can you get for less than $80k? One thing I was not keen to go PI route again unless bopian. So the typically options if getting new rides are small japanese rides like Jazz or Note, or Korean cars like basic Elantra and K3. Then I also looked at used cars which I have never done before to see if any cars worth it. Eventually I fixed my eyes on 2013 B200 which would cost about $65k which are latest model but pre-facelift. My confidence grew after I visited a few used car dealers as the condition of the cars were really good for any 5 year old cars. The leather are basically still wrinkle free and all the internal panels and buttons are still in very good condition, unlike the jap rides I have had which look old after just 2 to 3 years. Eventually I settled on 2015 B180 which is essentially the latest facelifted model. As the 2 rides are for my wife and myself, my wife wanted to get a Jazz initially but she was put off by the Jan/2019 delivery timeline. She was not keen on Elantra/K3 after seeing them in flesh. After awhile, my enthusiasm on B180/B200 rub off on her and she decided to get a B180 as well. Now I will share why I think B180/B200 is a viable alternative compare to typical jap/Korean fares. For about the same cash outlay, it is 7 years of former vs 10 years of later. I am willing to forsake the 3 years to have better motoring experience. It is a Mercedes after all, though a lesser one so to speak. After doing test drive of Jazz/Note and seeing K3/Elantra in flesh, I am ok to give up 3 years of ownership for the B-class ride. I love the B-class ride as it is almost perfect for what I want in a small car - compact on the outside, spacious in the inside, and full of all the hi-tech features in a very safe and powerful package. Imagine century sprint of 9.1sec, assist parking, integrated TPMS, latest safety features, etc ,etc.. And best of all, it is still the latest facelifted model. And I also did abit of research on ownership cost. I used to think servicing and parts for Mercedes is going to cost much more, but reality is not really that bad. For servicing, C&C offers servicing packages of 3 and 5 servicing. For B-class, it cost about $810 for 3 servicing, and $1400 for 5 servicing. If you factor in servicing interval of 15,000km for Mercedes, 3 servicing would be more than enough to cover 2 years of servicing. This means before any replacement parts, servicing cost for my case would come to $810, which is actually lower than what I was charged for my previous jap rides over the 2 year period with 4 servicing. No doubt I have to cater more for replacement parts which is going to cost more now. And the road tax I have to pay for my B180s also cost lesser than the Vellfire, $740 + $740 vs $1800. But I have to pay more for insurance. Even for petrol also I have to pay more but not much more as the FC for Vellfire is about 7.5km/L whereas B-class should get about 12km/L sasily, so not much difference. And then I have to navigate the used car dealers to get the used B180. This part is the most tricky and dreaded as have read many horror stories. Eventually I would say I am just lucky as both cars were transferred within a week of taking over the rides after finalizing the finance part. I know I should have done more by checking service records at C&C before confirming the deal but I chose to belief the STA reports and test drives and everything look and feel normal. And after owning both rides for a week and 3 weeks respectively, I have been happy with them so far. I would not be willing to shell out the money for them brand new, but pleased tat able to get them now at about 50% off their past purchase prices. I would think they are good deals for 3 year old cars. The motivation has been to try something new as not getting young anymore. And if it does not pan out well, can just sell them away and get something else that is safer. Whichever way I see there is no harm in beating this path. And right now both my wife and myself are enjoying the rides very much as it really offer much more than the typical jap/Korean fares. And if both rides are still in good shapes 7 years from now, just need to renew the COE for another 5 years. Hope this will inspire more to do the same. My apologies for the long story, as impossible to do it in 1 or 2 paragraphs. Hope you enjoy this sharing. Cheers.

    Merc c200k

folks, my bro is looking to buy a used c200k, probably 07 or 08 model. Most of them have mileage around the century mark. he is fine with the mileage, but worried cost of major servicing, in particular for cars that either hit 100k or 110k, or after x number of years.. any benz drivers can offer when is a c class is due for major servicing and how much roughly? Cant advise him as i have not owned benz makes before.. thanks.
  9. Hi all, Tried searching but can't get a comprehensive ans on this. Only managed to get bits and pieces of info here and there. I'm looking at getting a new E Class, not sure E200 or E250. Definitely PI as i find the sales service at CnC not that great and it's too overpriced compared to buying from PI. I have bought from PI before but only jap cars, never continental. I understand the general feedback from most people is that conti cars run on more electronics so there's a higher tendency for conti cars to have abit of electronic issues/replacements that need to be done from time to time even though Merc is supposed to be the best in terms of reliability for conti cars. So i have a few questions as follows: 1. Which workshop has one of the best equipment, experience in servicing Merc cars? Can they handle it if there are real serious issues or under what situations can i only turn to CnC for their help? (i hear names like MBM, Auto Spritz, Star Black etc) 2. If i turn to CnC, is the admin fee still $500 or has this changed? What other docs would i need? 3. Is the warranty and the workshop basically the same? Which warranty coverage is generally the most reasonable? 4. I'm not looking to pay the cheapest but just want to pay reasonable pricing to service the Merc. Which workshop would be best? Lastly, is the E250 worth getting over the E200? Seems like from Merc SG website, the specs look rather similar. Thx all
  10. Can find any thread related to the new A class (W176). Any bro or sis can share your review?

  12. Will like advice from fellow car enthusiasts for advice on the 3 cars: Which will you put your money in and why? (Thanks for giving me your reason!) I am aware that the 3 of them belong to different categories but their prices are pretty similar and imho, they all look good and each one with their individual ups & downs. WHICH is WHY I am caught in a dilemma in which to get. I had also test driven them, except the CLA250(not available for test drive) and am loving how the Jag handles and how wonderful the pull of the BMW is. Test driven the CLA180SB, underpowered and am not a fan of FWD, especially so for wagon driving. For my needs, it's basically a 4-5door family-type of car with a fun aspect, definitely. Not too shabby a price when I sell in 3-4years time. Jaguar XE CLA 250 Shooting Brake BMW 330i, F30 Thanks in advance for all your helpful inputs!
  13. Hi Guys, I am new to Conti rides. Have stucked with Jap rides for years. Recently the market situation forced me to liquidate my investments and fortunately I am not too late to pull out and made a little profits. Now, I have loved the look of the new C-class the first time I saw it and shopped around before deciding to get a 2nd-hand 2+ years old C200 Kompressor Avantgarde. It looked to be in great condition, well-maintained and has low mileage ( < 15k km/year) but i can never know what type of thrashing it has taken over the last 2+ years. So I decided to send it in for STA inspection. Should be receiving the results soon. Meanwhile, I have some questions below I hope someone will be able to help: 1) Exactly how exhaustive are these STA inspections? Do they look into all aspect of the car's health eg. encoutered accident before, swam in the flooded basement parking of Orchard road, badly thrashed? Any hints? 2) I was considering getting a new C180 with the 1.6ltr engine but felt that the 1.6ltr will be stressed more than the 1.8ltr engine. Hence, I settled for the C200 (it is also cheaper). I have already committed to the C200 in a hurry, I must say, due to the rising COE. Have i made a stupid decision? Be frank, but also be mindful that the price diff between the new C180 and the C200 is like $50K - $55k. Thanks guys.
  14. [at tachment=84264:6449565400.jpg]Dear bros, Almost time to change car! Been car hunting the past few months and now boil down to 3 cars. The third car is Jap so won't be talking about it here. As per topic, any views on these 2 beauties? Merc CLA - $179,800 BMW 316i Sport - $169,800 Both 1.6L Turbo with the merc churning out slightly more bhp. Merc compromise a bit of rear headroom and boot because of the coupe silhouette.
  15. Hi all, Was thinking of extending my current car's COE in 2015. However was adviced that since I want to extend, should get something that is reliable and better value. I narrowed down to the GS300 and E200 for their brand's reliability and comfort. Hope to get some comments here on which is a better car in terms of reliability, parts availability and workshops' familiarity with it. For mercedes, I am only aware of the good old w124 200E, 5spd, that is still running strong in many workhorses. The 1996 to 2003 w210 onwards seems to be less popular. For Lexus, I am only aware of the ES300 which is FWD and is a larger Camry-like car in other markets. I am looking at GS300 for its RWD but other than that not familiar with its characteristics. Appreciate any comments on the subject. Thanks in advance.
  16. Dear forummers, Looking to buy either of the above. Please advise which is a better buy. It seems like C180 commands at least 10K above the 320, while the 320 has a higher OMV than C180.... Any reason on the lower resale value of the 320 ? thanks in advance. :) .
  17. Hi Everyone, Care to share your thoughts on the new C200 or C250. Do you think its worth the dollar ? Thank you
  18. Hey guys, Im thinking of an e200 or e230 resale car. Most likely 2007 or 2009 yrs old. Haven test driven any yet. What do you think of the merc e classes? Is the e230 necessary? Also do merc cars hv problems generally after 5 yr mark?
  19. Mercedes C350 plug-in hybrid review 12 12 Hybrid C-Class offers a compelling mix of power and fuel efficiency Fuel economy test conditions give plug-in hybrids an unfair advantage in the company car taxation game, but used in the right way, the Mercedes C 350 Plug-in can be very cheap to run. It delivers a sharp turn of pace, too, and excels at being a refined, luxurious cruiser. Just look closely at how you’re likely to use it. It’s £3,465 more expensive than a C 250 BlueTEC diesel, which will prove more economical if you plan on covering longer distances. Pure electric cars aside, plug-in hybrids are the most economical and tax-efficient vehicles money can buy. They’re still expensive next to petrol and diesel-powered alternatives, but with Mercedes planning to launch 10 by 2017, you can expect prices to tumble. So, it’s up to early adopters to take the plunge, but fortunately, much of the C 350 Plug-in will feel familiar. Based on the C-Class saloon, it’s pretty much a no-compromise vehicle, although under the skin, the space for the 100kg lithium-ion battery pack cuts boot capacity to 335 litres in the saloon and 350 litres in the Estate (from 480 and 490 respectively). Both versions are also fitted with air-suspension to cope with the demands of the extra 200kg that the entire system adds to the kerbweight. Image 2 of 12 Image 2 of 12 Climb inside, and it’s business as usual. Last year’s new C-Class was a big improvement on its predecessor, and the plug-in hybrid uses exactly the same materials, plus fit and finish is excellent. The cars will be supplied in Exclusive or Avantgarde trim, so they’re well up the C-Class pecking order, with the addition of an air-con system that will pre-heat or cool the car thanks to its independent electrical power. The only hint of the state-of-the-art plug-in drivetrain is a small eco meter in the bottom of the instrument binnacle and the energy flow screen on the central tablet. Image 8 of 12 Image 8 of 12 Under the skin, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine’s 208bhp is augmented by an 80bhp electric motor that sits between the main unit and the transmission and can be clutched in and out. Total system power is 275bhp with a mighty 600Nm of torque, which is enough to give this 1.75-tonne car a 155mph top speed and a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds. • Best hybrid cars on sale That’s highly respectable for a sports saloon (the new C 450 AMG Sport is only one second quicker), and when you want to save the planet in E-mode, the electric motor and batteries deliver a 19.2-mile range at speeds up to 80mph. Image 1 of 12 Image 1 of 12 There are two main driving modes for the C 350. Hybrid mixes electric-only driving with electric boosting (petrol and electric motors together) and brake energy recuperation to give maximum economy. E-mode uses battery power alone for a limited range, plus you can select E-save mode, where the electric charge is saved for later in the journey; there’s also Charge, in which the petrol engine drives the car and recharges the battery simultaneously. Put your foot down, and this big Mercedes sprints forward as the electric motor pushes its big torque into the system at very low revs. The charge tails off a bit at higher speeds, but this is still a swift saloon. The ride is slightly better than the standard C-Class’, although that extra 100kg in the tail makes the car bob over regular bumps, while changes of direction are a tad less immediate. Image 10 of 12 Image 10 of 12 The drive systems offer a choice of Economy, Comfort, Sport and Sport+, which do pretty much what their names suggest. In Economy, the car will disengage the drivetrain and coast when conditions allow. The stiff suspension of Sport+ is a bit too much, though, so we preferred Comfort mode. Brake energy recuperation is most noticeable in the two sport modes, where the initial regeneration braking isn’t particularly well blended with the actual friction from pads on discs. Again, Comfort is the best setting for braking, as it’s more linear and the pedal feels more progressive, although at about 4mph, where the regeneration braking switches, it becomes jerky again. Key specs Price: £37,820 Engine: 2.0-litre 4cyl turbo plus electric motor, 275bhp Transmission: Seven-speed auto, rear-wheel drive 0-62mph/top speed: 5.9 secs/155mph Economy/CO2: 134.5mpg/48g/km On sale: May
