  3. Is it a myth to change engine oil every six months? Recently, I have received a message from my buddy and asking if it is a myth to change engine oil every six month? So some of you might be wondering, during this covid-19 period, my car mileage is not maximised until 10K, and do I still need to do an engine oil change? The dangers of not changing your oil Oil will break down over time due to high temperatures in the engine (known as thermal breakdown). Because of this, the oil isn’t capable of providing the necessary lubrication for metal parts after an extended period of use. Without lubrication, the moving joints in the engine will start rubbing against each other and cause premature wear. Oil also has a limited capacity on how much particulates it can hold. By not changing the oil, particles already in the oil will begin to settle and cause corrosion. One of the biggest dangers of not changing your oil is sludge buildup. Sludge occurs when old oil begins to gel or solidify in an engine. When sludge begins to build up, oil isn’t able to flow freely through the engine and can cause oil starvation to crankshafts, bearings, camshafts, and other valve train components not be lubricated. In time, this can cause major damage to the engine and, in the worst situations, require an engine replacement or rebuild. Choose Motul H-Tech 100 during this period! 4. Hi all, With more advance ionizers and other car odor removal gadgets available in the market, i do wonder if those traditional ones are still in use such as; 1. Pandan Leaves And Bread (Heard that it will attract pests) 2. Rolls Of Toilet Paper / Charcoal (Some say that your car might catch fire if it was parked directly under the sun, esp for owners who do not drive often such as OPC cars) 3. Turn on the car heater with your windows down (There are claims saying it will spoil your air-con faster) Are these claims fact or myth? Which one is better? The advance gadgets, the traditional methods or both? Personally, i use both charcoal gels/blocks and ionizers to neutralise the smell after a Sunday affair from the market. Your opinions and views. Thanks. Cheers!
  5. The video might be 15 minutes long but its totally worth it. It uses actual facts and logic to get rid of the notion that lower speed limits is the way to go. So what's your take on this? Should the speed limit be raised to eliminate the hoggers?

  12. Just spoken to a TP recently. Asked a few questions. For those who always had this queries in mind. I hope I've answered it. 1)Is it true that a car traveling on expressway lane 1 @ 90km/h is lane hogging? A)Technically speaking, he is adhering to the speed limit, thus he's not consider road hogging. He is only road hogging when he travels below the stipulated speed. 2)Is TP flexible with +10km/h for speeding case? A)It's at officer's discretion. No hard and fuss rules. Benefit of doubt normally will be given for such instances. We all know the meter in the car always have +-5km/h. 3)Does it means once signal, he has the right of way to filter? A)To practice defensive driving/riding, drivers and riders are expected to give way to vehicle if possible. If possible means you need not jam brake and cause vehicle behind to take evasive action. To summarise, driver who wants to filter need to ensure he don't cause unnecessary slow down to vehicle on the other lane. Signal doesn't mean right of way, he can be fine for inconsiderate driver if he swerve into other vehicle lane and cause evasive action. 4)Is biker travelling in between cars legal? A)They are to form up like any other car. Lane split not only is dangerous to them, it's also dangerous to other driver. 5)Is it that TP nowadays deployed unmarked WRX? A)Yes.This vehicle are for enforcement purposes. Seems like what we all always thought is right may not be right. Especially on the lane hogging concept.

  14. http://./2010/03/10/ng-kok-lim-debunks-mah-bow-tans-myths-about-hdb-flats/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Mr Mah, I refer to your comments in parliament as reported by Straits Times on 6 Mar 2010. There are not enough HDB flats to meet demand You said it is a myth that there are not enough HDB flats to meet demand because the 13,500 flats built last year and the 12,000 flats to be built this year add up to be more than the approximately 23,000 flats in either Clementi or Jurong East. However, the 23,000 flats in either Clementi or Jurong East do not represent the demand for new flats. Ms Chua Mui Hoong reported in her Straits Times commentary on 11 Feb 2010 that there is a potential demand for 95,600 flats over and above those who have already clinched their flats or will be buying other properties. This demand for 95,600 flats far outstrips your supply of either 13,500 or 12,000 flats. Hence, it is not a myth but a truth that there aren

  19. Actor Christopher Lee to retain permanent resident status By Lynda Hong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 12 July 2007 2101 hrs SINGAPORE: MediaCorp actor Christopher Lee will retain his Singapore Permanent Resident status, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Fans of Lee have been concerned about his PR status after he was jailed for drink driving related offences. So the reply from the ICA should come as good news to them. The ICA has completed its review on Lee's case and decided to allow him to retain his PR status. He will, however, come under close observation. In making known the outcome of the review to the actor on Wednesday, the ICA said it would revoke its current decision should he violate the law again. Lee will be performing in a charity show for the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) this Sunday. Other stars taking part in the show include his girlfriend, Fann Wong. - CNA/yy

  21. From BT: IS tropicalisation a myth? Do cars sold in Singapore have to be modified to prevent overheating or other climatic problems? This question is often raised whenever the subject turns to parallel imports, which are not brought in through authorised distributors dealing directly with the factory. For example, BMW cars are said to require a bigger radiator and different engine cooling system to cope with the warmer weather. Authorised distributor Performance Motors Ltd declined to comment when asked about this. But most motor traders and grey importers claim the hot weather and road conditions here are not an issue for most modern automobiles. 'That may have been a problem 15 years ago when we were importing used cars from the UK,' said one parallel importer at Automobile Megamart in Ubi. 'But now, the new cars we bring in do not need any modifications.' The manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz, one of the most popular brands targeted by parallel importers here, agreed. 'Our cars are set up for worldwide temperatures, with large radiators and seamless provision for all types of cooling,' said a DaimlerChrysler spokesman. 'If any adjustment is needed, it is for the cold, not for the heat,' he added, referring to the cold weather packages available for Mercedes-Benz cars bound for snowy countries. In fact, the only modification Mercedes-Benz has made for Asia was for the road conditions some 20 years back. For example, cars sold in Malaysia came with higher springs and taller tyres because of the bad roads then. 'But these are no longer necessary today,' he said. One authorised distributor of another European marque said there is no difference between the models made for Europe and those he gets. 'If anything is changed, it's in the software, not the hardware,' he said. 'The program settings for the automatic transmission, for instance, can sometimes vary from European cars because of our start-stop driving conditions.' No tropicalisation seems to be required for Japanese cars either. A spokesman for Ricardo Cars, which specialises in grey imports of Toyota, said he has not heard of Japanese cars having an overheating problem. 'Maybe it's because the climate conditions in Japan are a bit closer to South-east Asia,' he said. 'In fact, some Japanese cars can be ordered with 'cold area specs' to handle fog and frost.' He added that some features in these JDM - or Japan domestic model - cars are actually more suitable for use in tropical countries. 'Some cars have dark tinted windows which are perfect for blocking out the sun,' he said. 'But sometimes, these darker windows have to be changed because they may not meet the Land Transport Authority's rules on visible light transmission.' But a spokesman for Borneo Motors, the authorised distributor of Toyota and Lexus, emphasised that JDM models are different from their export versions. 'When a Toyota is built for the export market, there are certain differences, such as a heavy duty aircon and heavy duty rubber seals,' he said. He added that while such changes may vary from model to model, there are other more important tweaks for different specifications such as emission standards and compatible petrol. 'You can't just take a domestic model and ship out for use elsewhere,' he said. But when it comes to issues related to climate, one well-known German marque summed it up best when it said its cars do not have to be modified before they are shipped out. 'All Porsches undergo extensive testing in all kinds of climate zones,' explained a representative of Porsche Asia Pacific. 'Therefore a special tropicalised version is not necessary.'
  22. Read this post from the US-based Nissan Forums, and thought it was well said and put. Backpressure is a bad thing and I'd thought it be good to be more accurate in future representation.... : ========================= Anyways, I noticed something that really was getting on my nerves something fierce that people kept saying. "The GA motor needs backpressure to run right." B*LLSH*T! Whew. Sorry. I had to get that out of my system. On any car, with ANY size engine, BACKPRESSURE IS BAD. Re-read that kids. BACKPRESSURE IS BAD. The fact that the GA loses power with piping bigger than 2" has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH BACKPRESSURE. It has to do with EXHAUST VELOCITY!!! When your exhaust is traveling through your piping, it is spinning around the outer diameter of the pipe. If the pipe is too small, it can't get out fast enough, and it causes backpressure, which, if you've been reading, is a BAD THING. If the piping is too big, the gasses can't swirl out fast enough, causing, you guessed it, BACKPRESSURE. If the piping is just right, the gasses swirl right out and in fact help suck out the exhaust gasses that are exiting from the engine. Let's recap. BACKPRESSURE IS BAD. Properly tuned exhaust systems let the exhaust gasses flow right out, creating NO BACKPRESSURE.
  23. Hi Guys Does putting nitrogen gas in tires really enhances performance of the tire? This debate has been ongoing about the necessity of paying more for nitrogen and thus getting more performance out of it. Is it really essential? Can the driver really feel the difference? (Race cars aside). Please provide your personal hands-on experience. Thanks.
