  2. Yahoo : Singapore is third best ‘global city’, others have ‘long way to go’, property expert says KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — Malaysia’s capital and other cities behind Singapore in a “global city” ranking require significant improvement in a variety of areas before they are competitive against the city-state, world property consultancy firm Knight Frank said today. Its Asia-Pacific head researcher Nicholas Holt said aspiring competitors needed to be more transparent and encourage free market practices in order to keep up with Singapore, which ranked third in Knight Frank’s Global Cities 2016 report. “Singapore, it’s the transparency, it’s the ease of doing business, to set up a business, it comes in at the top in terms of setting up a business. “When you come into Malaysia, there’s a lot of red tape, uncertainty, thinking, ‘Is something going to happen?’ “So I think there’s quite a long way to go,” Holt said after launching Knight Frank’s Wealth 2016 report. He added that Malaysia needed to be more open to business ventures from abroad, a trait other major cities like Singapore, London and New York, have embodied and which enabled them to be successful. “So for KL to truly become an international and global city it would have to have lots of reform and it has to really capture demand from corporates and investors globally ahead from places like Singapore which would be a tough task,” Holt said. But Holt also noted that Kuala Lumpur was making various improvements to its infrastructure, such as the light rail transit (LRT) extension and the new mass rapid transit (MRT), which will get it closer to becoming a “global city”. Knight Frank later clarified that Holt was speaking on a global level and had not meant to comment specifically about Malaysia. The top two spots on Knight Frank’s Global Cities 2016 went to London and New York respectively. Hong Kong coming in fourth, followed by Dubai on fifth. Malaysia was not listed in the report which only ranks the top 10 “global cities” in the world. He added that Singapore also benefited when the former British colony returned to China as a special administrative region, creating an opening for the city-state to position itself as the preferred financial services centre in the region. "And then in 1997 Hong Kong went back to the Chinese; that was the opportunity for Singapore really to push their banking and finance and their wealth management centre outside of Hong Kong within Asia and now when people say 'Hong Kong or Singapore' they go with Singapore," he said. He added that instead of competing with Singapore, Malaysia could instead aim to complement the neighbouring country by focusing on other aspects like Islamic finance. According to the Knight Frank Global Cities website, the cities selected "explored the future of the built environment, and is intended to help investors, occupiers and city planners with their future business strategy." 10. Interesting device... But think it's very anti social to use it. I would kpkb if I'm in the receiving end. If need the space then spend money to buy Biz class tickets!! http://travel.asiaone.com/article/news/one-mans-right-is-anothers-wrong 1. What is a Knee Defender? A nifty - or annoying, depending on how you see it - pocket-size device, Knee Defenders are basically sturdy plastic clips.Costing US$21.95 (S$27.41), they come in a set of two, and exist to protect the sacred ground that is an airline passenger's leg room.Opinion on the Knee Defender is varied - some, especially tall people, adore it, while others have taken to label it as plain rude. 2. Sounds interesting. How is it used? Preserving your leg room has never been easier.Users first extend the seat table in front of them, before proceeding to clip one Knee Defender onto each of the table's arms. The Knee Defender can then be slid up and down the table arm, effectively allowing the user to "control" how far the seat in front can recline. The closer the Knee Defender is to the seat in front, the less reclining leeway the seat will have.To top it off, the Knee Defender website even has a printable "Courtesy Card", which manufacturers suggest the user passing to the passenger sitting in front, to inform him or her about the upcoming failure of their seat's recline feature. 3. Why would I need such a device? Aside from the obvious comfort of having sufficient leg room, the space that a Knee Defender gives can be used to, according to the product's website, work on one's laptop or engage in anti-deep vein thrombosis (DVT) exercises.Don't miss these... Knee Defender a hit after in-flight spatFlight diverted because of quarrel over legroom DVT, also known as Economy Class Syndrome, is a medical condition whereby a potentially dangerous blood clot develops in a person, as a result of limited space or movement.Of course, whether or not the Knee Defender is the best solution to these problems is another contentious topic 4. Who invented it? Ira Goldman, a 1.93m tall Washington DC resident who wanted to help fellow tall airline passengers deal with the problem of being "bashed in the knees over and over again". He first marketed the product in 2003. 5. What are airlines' policies over its use? News reports regarding the Knee Defender stem mostly from the US, although its manufacturer's website claims to have purchases from the "7 continents". According to an article in the BBC, the US Federal Aviation Administration has yet to ban the gadget, although most major US airlines, such as United Airlines, have. 6. Where can I buy one? Do you think the Knee Defender is for you? Are you ready to accept the death stares or scowls of disapproval that might result from your using it?
  11. I read that VW gearbox issues are due to the additives in synthetic transmission oil that causes malfunction in the electronics in hot and humid climate. This explains why such a large number of GB failures in Asia and not in Europe. The solution is to change from SYNTHETIC to MINERAL. Does this apply to other car makers gearboxes where synthetics are used ? What about engine oil then ?

  13. Just wondering aloud whether such an idea will work and if it is legal in the first place. It will remove the 'in betweens' and hence any mark ups. Both parties agree to and sign a mutually binding agreement and go in with eyes open.... Say I have a large car and wants to downgrade to a small car, whereas another car owner wants to upgrade to a bigger car. Normal case would be trade in or sell car and then get the car of one's new choice. But of course going through dealers for new cars means high costs outlays where one may not or do not want to make. Second hand cars? One may still buy a lemon or meet unscrupulous second hand car dealers. But if there are two willing parties, once their new car preferences meet, they can negotiate on price differential based on a mutually agreed terms such as a older/smaller car paying some cash delta for a newer/bigger car. Of course there will be many variables, such as make and model, age, number of owners, cc, condition, mileage etc, but so long both patties agree, would that be workable? Each party can then agree for the other to send the prospective car to each's car workshop for pre exchange checks. The inspection results would be factored into the final sum to be paid by ome to the other. Each also find his own loan (if required), and insurance. Each foot own transfer fees. How? Can work? Or too complicated?
  14. http://www.carbodydesign.com/news/2005-07-...-fiat-stilo.php After the Fiat and GM divorce, the Italian industry is planning to create a network of subsidiaries and sub-contractors. In this perspective, the new Fiat Stilo, which will be presented by the end of 2005 and will go on sale within 2006, should be produced in partnership with the Austrian contractor Magna Steyr, that will engineer the design of some parts. This is the first time the automaker has hired a non-Italian contractor to develop a new model. This choice was taken to reduce the development times, as Sergio Marchionne (Fiat) said. In the meantime the current prototype did not convince Fiat vertices, so a new design is likely to be introduced for official presentation. This prototype of the 2007 Fiat Stilo, designed by Centro Stile Fiat under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, did not convince Fiat managers and could be modified (Source: autoblog.nl) Topless panda , FIAT500 etc....are here : http://www.mitoalfaromeo.com/gruppofiat/futuro.html

  18. Reading through some posts here, I found that quite many of the forummers here actually paid out of their own pocket for road incidents that are no fault of theirs. Claiming from insurance affects their NCD too. These usually occur when the defaulting party at fault lied in the reporting, no guts to admit or ran away etc. I never understood how these people can be so low life. They should just own up, pay up and move on with their heads held high like a man. Anyway, has these kind of incidents happened to you before? where you need to pay for the mistakes of others? I guess its just part and parcel of driving?

  20. Yahoo news report : Taking free items in bulk is criminal misappropriation By Kheng Leng | Posted: 10 May 2012 2055 hrs SINGAPORE: People seem to be helping themselves to more than what they need at self-help counters at fast-food chain McDonald's. At a McDonald's outlet in Tampines Mall, people took napkins, sauces, or even free drink refills in bulk, and paid no heed to warnings by staff. Although it is not considered as theft, the actions amount to criminal misappropriation. Those found guilty could be jailed up to two years, fined or be liable to both. - CNA/ck Sure Singaporean did it or FW.... cos I had seen prc women doing it... I take only what is needed and return the extra if not used (sugar or coffee mates) .....
