  1. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/653238/nissan-says-rav4-hybrid-economy-unrealistic/ Automakers are not above taking shots at each other for performance claims like real-world fuel economy. Most recently, Nissan took aim at Toyota's RAV4 hybrid indicating the fuel economy ratings on the popular small SUV are exaggerated. Case in point, the Nissan X-Trail e-Power uses a gasoline engine to recharge the onboard lithium-ion battery and gets an estimated 6.1 liters per 100km, or about 38.6 mpg. By comparison, the Toyota RAV4 uses a conventional hybrid system that delivers an estimated 4.7 liters per 100 km, or the equivalent of 50 mpg, a fuel economy increase of about 30 percent. Nissan indicates that the fuel economy differences between the two vehicles are not as far apart as the estimates suggest and believe the real-world performance is closer. "I think with the fuel economy, it's a tricky one. We'll leave it in your hands to do the real-world testing. But from a lot of the articles I've seen for RAV4 Hybrid, you can't get anywhere near 4.8 (liters per hundred kilometers)," says Aleksandar Pecanac, Nissan Australia's product manager for X-Trail. Nissan goes on to claim that its X-Trail e-Power system delivers a superior driving experience. According to Adam Robertson, deputy director of the Nissan Technical Center in Europe, the X-Trail drives "More like an EV, and we know from our experience with EVs that customers love it." Robertson goes on to say, "EVs have the highest level of satisfaction for acceleration, and that's not just the outright performance for a car like the Porsche Taycan. That's all EVs. "We also know that traditional hybrids have the lowest satisfaction. We wanted to capture the customer experience that they really like and bring that in with e-Power." The Nissan X-Trail e-Power launched last fall in Japan and Europe as an electrified version of the Rogue. The automaker has not yet indicated if and when it will bring the e-Power version of the Nissan Rogue to the US. Currently, Nissan's US website only mentions the e-Power on the Nissan Leaf.
  2. Would this come and sell well in Singapore? First Look: With the 2019 RAV4, Toyota gives its best-selling crossover a new rugged look http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/news/2019-toyota-rav4-preview-article-1.3900050 Considered the first-ever compact crossover, the Toyota RAV4 debuted in 1994. This brings up two thoughts: 1) that CUVs have been around much longer than the current sales craze indicates, and 2) how are there only four generations of RAV4 in 24 years? Well, the first-generation slogged through a 16-year cycle, but as consumer demands increased, vehicle life cycles decreased in retrospect. Which brings us to today’s world debut of the all-new 2019 RAV4. And the grandfather of the crossover segment is looking younger than ever: less cute ‘ute and more brute youth. Finally fashionable At first glance, the only indication that the new RAV4 is indeed a Toyota is its ever-familiar oval emblem. Outside of that, the crossover evokes brawn and strength—words that generally describe true body-on-frame trucks and SUVs rather than car-based, unibody crossovers. But the 2019 RAV4 is full of bold character lines, chiseled features, and a grille that looks just as annoyed to be sitting in traffic as you are. Even its fenders, which now feature squared-off black plastic cladding instead of body-colored metal look (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) appropriate and attractive. The new RAV4 will drop a trim (Platinum) but details for the full lineup are sparse. However, an XSE Hybrid model is all-new and with it comes standard two-tone exterior paint. A black roof is paired with shades of gray, white, silver, and a new blue to give the hybrid a distinctive exterior style but in an atypical hybrid way (i.e., not frumpy looking). Adventure grade models also receive the new double-color scheme but with a white roofline similar to smaller sibling CH-R. This is available only on black, blue, and a new of-the-land greenish hue called Lunar Rock. For 2019, with the Platinum trim gone, the Limited is left as the sole heir to RAV4 luxury. This top-of-the-line model is outfitted with 19-inch wheels and chrome accents to further distinguish its premium-ness. Tech and touchpoints Of course, the Limited receives more than just flashy alloys and shiny bits. Standard features include a power moonroof, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, a newly-designed 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a rearview mirror camera, which is a North American-first for Toyota. Similar to what is available on General Motors’ premium brands, Toyota’s Digital Display Rear Mirror looks and acts like a conventional rearview mirror but toggle a switch and it will also display a high-definition, wide-angle view of what’s behind the vehicle. The Limited doesn’t hoard all the fancy gear, though, as all 2019 RAV4 models will be equipped with Entune 3.0, which includes Verizon-powered Wi-Fi connectivity, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and Apple CarPlay integration. Available Entune upgrades include Plus for a larger 8-inch touchscreen and satellite radio or Premium, which adds navigation. Also available will be up to five USB ports, wireless device charging, and an all-new 11-speaker JBL sound system. Increased performance capabilities The 2019 RAV4 will be powered by two engines: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder paired with an 8-speed automatic, and a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder second-generation Toyota Hybrid System II engine mated to a CVT. Horsepower and fuel economy figures are not yet available but the automaker says consumers can expect improved, even best-in-class, numbers with the new model. Driving dynamics are said to have improved as well, particularly with the XSE Hybrid, which Toyota claims is the best-handling of the RAV4 lineup. The new hybrid features a sport-tuned suspension along with improved shock absorbers and springs. There also are three all-wheel-drive systems for the 2019 RAV4. Entry-level models can be optioned with the carryover AWD system, hybrids are available with AWD-i, and a new-to-Toyota dynamic torque vectoring AWD, which will be standard on Limited gasoline models and Adventure grade RAV4s. Featuring a rear driveline disconnect, the new torque-vectoring AWD system can send 50 percent of the engine torque to the rear wheels as well as distribute it to the left or right to improve handling. Additionally, when equipped with AWD, Adventure models are outfitted with Multi-Terrain Select as standard. The new system offers four driver-selectable traction modes (snow, mud, sand, and rocks) that can be adjusted on the fly. But performance isn’t the only priority in the new RAV4. For 2019, the lineup will be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, the automaker’s second generation of advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies. Standard on all vehicles, the technology package includes: pre-collision with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beam as well as new-for-2019 lane tracing assist (enabled only with ACC) and road sign assist (identifies and alerts to upcoming signage). The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will go on sale at the end of this year while hybrid models will follow suit in early 2019. We expect final specs and pricing closer to its on-sale date, if not sooner. 3. NOT in Singapore though. I will say it is a very darling move, given the differences between RAV4 and the new X-Trail (aka Rogue in USA). Or Nissan might be buying those super rundown unit to make its SUV feel better, which would not be a fair comparison so to speak. But I do see the opportunity that it can be done in Singapore, not Nissan vs Toyota though. The first pair that pop up in my mind was Kia Sorento and Mercedes GLB200 (since so many here are comparing these 2 apple and orange, just because both are "around" the same price point - I see lots of different though). But why Cycle and Carriage should consider doing this? Well since there are a pool of potential buyer looking at both models, allowing the test drive of GLB at Kia showroom and Sorento at C&C showroom might actually be a win-win situation, since buyer would be more likely to walk away choosing one of these 2 models represented by the same AD. Make sense? Nissan Will Be Offering Free Toyota RAV4 Test Drives To Sell More Rogues – Wait, What? Nissan is confident that the 2021 Rogue is far better than the Toyota RAV4, which is why they will be offering free test drives in the rival model to potential customers at its dealers this December. The automaker expects around half of its 1,074 U.S. dealers to embrace this unconventional strategy, which is not without risk, because “a percentage of customers are inevitably going to value the differences between the models differently than expected”, Tyson Jominy, J.D. Power’s Power Information Network VP, said, cited by AutoNews. The news outlet got its hands on a video message sent to dealers by Nissan’s VP of Sales and Regional Operations, Judy Wheeler, who said: “We know that when consumers check out the all-new Rogue side by side with the RAV4, they will be amazed by our standard, advanced technology, premium design… and, most of all, outstanding overall value.” Wheeler told AutoNews that “when you test drive our vehicle versus the major competitors, you’re going to end up purchasing this vehicle because it’s that much better.” Toyota already knows of Nissan’s strategy to use a rented RAV4 to try and sell more Rogues, and they are actually “flattered”. “We are confident their dealers and customers will appreciate the quality, value, versatility and safety features that have made the RAV4 the no.1-selling (compact) SUV in the United States”, said the brand’s chief of sales, Bob Carter. The unorthodox campaign is known internally as ‘Rogue Gone Rogue’ and is part of a four-month advertising push described by Wheeler as “the most robust marketing campaign in Nissan’s history”. The 2021 Nissan Rogue has an MSRP of $25,650. Power is supplied by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, making 181 HP and 245 Nm of torque, mated to a standard CVT and FWD – with AWD being a $1,400 premium on all grades. The 2021 Toyota RAV4, on the other hand, is priced from $26,050, and comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 203 HP and 249 Nm, paired to an eight-speed transmission, in the base model.
  4. For discussion purpose, any comments on the abovementioned Jap SUVs? Please try not to compare with conti SUVs.
  5. Hi, Thinking of getting either model. Any bros here can share your fuel consumption of both models? Any problems facing both models? Advise is welcome! Thanks.
  6. Hello everyone, I'm currently driving a Nov '05 Optra and wishes to upgrade to a SUV. I have done my sums and have shortlisted these 4 '07/08 models: 2007 Mazda CX-7 2.3 Turbo with Sunroof 2008 Nissan Murano 2.5 with Sunroof 2007 Toyota RAV4 2.4 with Sunroof 2007 Honda CRV 2.4 with Sunroof Please give me your honest feedback as to which model I should pick. As I am looking at about 7 year old rides, I am more concerned about their reliability. Fuel economy is less of a concern for me as my fuel bills are paid for by the company that I am working for. My brain tells me to go with RAV4 or CRV, but my heart prefers Murano and the CX7 for their added amenities. Thank you in advance for your kind advice! (:
  7. The current generation Toyota RAV4 has been around since late 2005 and many felt that it is about time Toyota releases a new model for it. In recent months, several images of the supposedly new RAV4 were leaked onto the internet. Toyota denied and refused to comment about the leaked images but it seems that the leaked images resembled very much like the real thing which was unveiled at the recent LA Auto Show. The fourth generation Toyota RAV4 made its world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and the car will be made available by early next year. The new model will come in a variety of powertrains that will aid in engaging a true driving experience. One of the engines made available is a 2.5-litre four cylinder unit which produces 176bhp and 233Nm of torque. The V6 engine option previously offered will be discontinued. The standard four speed automatic transmission will be replaced with a six speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. The first and second gear ratios are optimised for urban driving. In order to keep engine revs lower at highway speeds and also enhance fuel usage, the fifth and sixth gears will be overdrives. The new RAV4 comes equipped with new technologies such as Sport Mode. These are enhancements made to suspension performance and the optimisation of the electric power steering. The spring rates and shock absorbers have been tuned to aid the vehicle's handling characteristics. The driver selectable Sport Mode also sharpens the transmission shift timing and action and also the throttle response. The electric power steering assist gives a firmer feel and better response to input. All new RAV4 comes with eight standard airbags and equipped with Toyota's various safety systems such as traction control, anti-lock braking system, enhanced vehicle stability control and smart stop technology. 13. Hi all, Just got a used RAV4J and realised the rear tyres are uneven hence causing "humming" noise when traveling. The original tyre is Bridgestone Dueler 215/70-R16. Any tyre brand/model to recommend if I were to stick to 215/70-R16? Also, if I were to upgrade to 17" rims, any advice for me? Shall I get 215/65-R17, 225/65-R17 or 235/60-R17? Thanks for reading my post. Have a pleasant day!

  17. I have a friend driving a 2002 RAV4 3DR paying about 1k installments per month. I have been encouraging him to change car as soon as he can, based on criterias 1 of the choices is Colt-Version-R (manual version now selling for about 64K) Should he change car, or remain driving the RAV4 that is old and depreciates a lot every year?
  18. Hi all, thinking of changing rides but can not decide which model. current ride is suzuki and very sastify with the build quality and the realibility so far (3 yrs). and service of champion is ok too. been looking on Stream for it's MPV purpose, but also always like to own an SUV. i know it's not apple to apple but perhaps car owner here can help to give feedback and opinion, i going to travel malaysia a lot thus need a safe and comfort/quiet long distance drive, cruise control is a ++, and big cargo space is a must ! 1) stream - for it's lower price and occasionally seven-seat config 2) Rav 4 - it's a toyota that i never own or drive b4, i'll not get from Borneo but PI rather....again, for it's lower price, but i need advice on reliable PI for toyota. 3) Vitara - i like the look, and i trust suzuki. but at the same time, i'll want to try other makers.... i'm yet to test drive all 3 cars but i'll..... thanks all in advance.
