  1. Is this the first time resident are rewarded for something good they did? How can that be? They must be robbing our reserve, oh NO, will GST goes up again in near term? hahahaha Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/residents-to-be-rewarded-for-cutting-electricity-usage-during-peak-periods-under-new-pilot SINGAPORE – In a first-of-its-kind initiative to get households to help manage the load on the electricity grid, residents in homes equipped with smart meters will be called upon to adjust their electricity usage during peak demand periods. The initiative, called Residential Demand Response (R-DR), is targeted to start by the second half of 2024 and will tentatively involve about 1,000 households that have smart electricity meters provided by utilities firm SP Group, said the Energy Market Authority (EMA) on Tuesday. These households will receive alerts from the SP app to temporarily cut down or defer their electricity usage during demand peaks in the power system. Once alerted, participating residents can postpone their usage of high energy-consuming appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers, or adjust the temperature of their air-conditioner or turn it off. Demand peaks in the power system refer to peaks in electricity consumption by consumers, which tend to occur in the hotter months of the year and in the afternoons, when commercial and industrial activities are running at full speed. For example, there was an 8 per cent increase in peak electricity demand from 7.3 gigawatts (GW) in February 2023 to 7.9GW in May 2023, which was hotter than February. On May 13, the temperature in Ang Mo Kio hit 37 deg C, a level not seen in Singapore since 1983. Households contribute to about 15 per cent of Singapore’s total electricity consumption. Electricity demand and supply must be managed because if many consumers are using electricity at the same time, there is less supply and prices typically go up. Peak periods can also strain the systems that deliver power. Households that reduce their energy usage when alerted will receive financial incentives. While the initiative is planned to run for six months, other details such as the type of incentive will be revealed later as SP and EMA are finalising the programme. Announcing the R-DR pilot at the Asia Clean Energy Summit on Tuesday, Manpower Minister and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng said that consumers have a role to play in ensuring that the grid remains resilient, and that the importance of demand management is often overlooked when it comes to energy security. EMA chief executive Ngiam Shih Chun added: “Consumers can play an important role in saving energy by reducing their usage, which can help reduce carbon emissions from the power system.” EMA noted that the power system’s peak demand is forecast to rise every year over the next five years. The initiative helps to keep the power system running smoothly and more efficiently by working on both the demand and supply sides of the system, the agency added.
  2. Imagine you are fetching a neighbor to work and this neighbor gives you a bar of chocolate. If you get into an accident, the injured neighbor is not covered by your private car insurance and he/she sues you. This is because private car insurance excludes "hire and reward" usage. Carrying of passengers with payment in this case. Anyone knows which insurer is willing to extend private car insurance to cover "hire and reward" ? Buying commercial car insurance is out of the question because you are not running a business and the payment is low.
  3. Hi, On 22, March 2016, my car (Ssangyong) was seriously damaged due to a hit-and-run incident at Ikea Tampines; (Park Level 1; parking lot 230). We found some broken parts at the site of the accident which belong to a silver Daihatsu Terios or Toyota Rush. Please find enclosed the picture of a similar car. The Terios/Rush must be damaged on the left front bumper with dark grey scratches, it might be that the bumper is very loose as we found many clips and screws all over the accident site. In the enclosed picture, I have marked the missing piece and also where the Terios/Rush must be damaged. Actually, Daihatsu Terios and Toyota Rush are the same cars with the only difference being the company logo. Please have a look out to help to find the Terios/Rush with the missing part and dark grey scratches driving around. For anyone who can send me any information (such as an image of the car, car plate number, name of driver, video, etc) which eventually helps to find the culprit, will get a reward of 500,- SGD in cash. All information given will be treated with 100% confidential and will only be handover to the police. I will not reveal the name of the person who gives me the information without his/her permission even to the police. Please send me a message here on MyCarForum. Many thanks for your help in advance. 8. I am offering $1000 reward for anyone who can provide me with information leading to the whereabouts of the Orchard Road tissue auntie. It was reported in the New Paper about 5-7 years back that this poor auntie literally trudged her way from her studio flat in Bukit Merah or Redhill and make a 2-4 hour walk to Orchard walk just to sell tissue paper. The load she carried was about 5-10kg. After selling her ware, she trudged another few hours back home at night. The last I saw her was at the underpass ( not the underpass from Orchard MRT to lucky plaza side ) but think its the Shaw house underpass.. some 5-7 years ago?.. Damn I was so damn poor that time.. barely had money to survive. Facing a looming court case (some bitch framed me ) and I wanted to die. I saw the report in The New Paper while waiting to go court during that period of time and I spent about $30,000+ on my court case only to lose. Justice got no eyes and thats correct. I was damn down. I planned to die. But I saw this article, I saw this old lady and her grit and determination. I knew I will jump off somewhere within the next few days so I decided to give her ALL my money so that she could have a better life. I dont know Orchard well as I rarely go there. When I finally found her, I walked past her. She was unlike other tissue seller auntie. She was sincere and she was STANDING .. She looked frail and pitiful really. I cant describe it now. I walked to the ATM and withdrew $40 out of the $50+ dollars I had left in my only POSB account ( can someone who is familar with Shaw underpass advise if there is any POSB or DBS ATM there? ) ... I walked back to the poor auntie. I simply pushed the money into her hands, the $10 dollars, which were my last dollars of savings in my whole life. She was God damn happy.. She dint smile but she was relieved and extremely thankful to me. She couldnt say out a word... just point to the ground her wares and beckoned me to take the tissues. I knelt down and took 2 packets since she was so sincere. Old auntie probably dint know that $40 she was holding came from someone who had no will to live and from someone who was to die in a few days time. I took her two packet of tissue and smiled at her, turned my back on her and walked off. I couldnt help it but cry while walking back to the MRT station. I was so emotional after months of trials, attending courts, not working, zero morale, no future no anything. Totally at a loss in life. In the train, I told myself, na bei this poor auntie, no money, no family, no anything, yet grit and determination she got plenty. Save another day. I will survive and I will come back one day, rich. I made a promise to God that I will ensure this auntie stays at home to rest while I sponsor her daily should I surive this crisi without dying. . Yes, I lost the court battle, I lost everything and I had nothing. But I learned one thing - to survive. Now I m back. I have $100,000+ cash in my bank, I had two luxury cars, I had a good family. I stayed in a luxury condo and I owned several properties. I fought so damn hard. I perservere and I reached the peak. Please, anyone can help me? Is she selling tissue somewhere in Singapore? Or is she in old folks home? I hope the New paper team do something about it. Please help.
  9. mind you, that's $377k worth of gold !! this morning's ST front page had an article on a cabby who drove ard without knowing that one of his passengers had left behind a bag of gold in his boot worth abt $377k !! upon finding the pot, the cabby made an effort and returned the gold to the owner only to be given a tremendous reward of ...... $50 !! Even ComfortDelgro, which has nothing to do with it, except being the taxi company, decided to reward the cabby with $200 for his honesty ! even when someone returned my $110 pager when i lost it, i went from Tampines to Bukit Merah to collect it and gave the finder $20 !! but ironically, when i returned things to others, i never received any rewards b4.
  10. Hey you peasants, better go check your rented out house/condo/hdb/shophouse/etc for Mas Salamat! Don't say gov never give you money hor. Maybe he is hiding in your house!! If Mas salamat is caught. And you want to claim the $1million to yourself. The MIW will come out with cxxk and bull story. That they already received 10000 telephones calls that Mas salamat is spotted in Singapore. Then also the 10000 police/gurkars were sent out since april to search for Salamat. Not forgetting Ministar secret informers also give many tips leading to its arrest. The $1million after deduction for income tax, excise tax, entertainment tax, handling fees, bank transfer charges...left only $700k. Out of this, $500k goes to the police/gurkars/internal security ministry as they are the front line who risk their lives leading to the arrest of Salamat. Then the remaining $200,000 will be distributed to the 10,000 telephone callers who provided informations. Eventually each will get only $20, to be deposited in your CPF and can only take out after you reach 70yrs old!

  12. In Malaysia, catch a thief and win a new motorbike Fri Feb 16, 2007 8:12 AM IST KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's main ruling party has volunteered to help curb street crime, offering new motorbikes to gangs of illegal street racers if they spend their time catching thieves instead. Illegal racing and bag-snatch robberies are twin scourges of Malaysian streets. Bag-snatchers are usually men who grab women's handbags as they race past them on motorcycles, often dragging them head-first into the pavement and sometimes killing them. "Once they catch at least 30 snatch thieves, we will reward them with a motorcycle each as an incentive," Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, head of the party's junior wing, told the Star newspaper. The United Malays National Organisation party has tried to reach out to illegal racers, usually jobless or lowly paid youths, to persuade them to give up racing and join the party. "Instead of wasting their time, they might as well help police combat crime," Abdul Azeez said. http://in.today.reuters.com/news/newsArtic...ia-287963-1.xml if there is 30 snatch thieves to catch... it must b really rampant.
