The 58-year-old, who was wearing a grey shirt, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News said the 70-year-old cleaner had been told by his boss to go check out the river, after someone told the boss that he saw a body in the river. The cleaner told his boss and called the police after confirming that there was really a body. He told Shin Min: "When civil defence officers arrived, I saw them retrieving the body from the river with their bare hands. Last month, another old man also died in the river, and I didn't expect a similar case to happen today." Many were decomposing under the hot sun. Cleaners were seen wading through the river gathering the fish. Residents said that they spotted the dead fish at about noon on Tuesday. 12. http://news.asiaone.com/news/edvantage/river-valley-high-teacher-knocked-down-van-outside-school River Valley High teacher knocked down by van outside school AsiaOne Thursday, Nov 07, 2013 SINGAPORE - A River Valley High School teacher was hit by a goods van suspected of beating the red light near the school gate. Mrs Eileen Pua Jiu Er, 31, a chemistry teacher, suffered three fractures and was sent to hospital, Lianhe Wanbao reported. The accident happened on Tuesday, at a traffic crossing outside the school at about 12.15pm. Mrs Pua had been crossing a road along Boon Lay Avenue, just outside the school, when the accident occured. This morning, Mrs Pua spoke to reporters at the National University Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She said she was on her way home and had just started crossing the road when she suddenly felt something hit her forcefully. When she regained consciousness, she found herself lying on a hospital bed. "I saw the pedestrian traffic light turn green before stepping off the curb," she said. "I am a teacher, and I need to set a good example when I'm outside the school, so I definitely wouldn't cross when the light is still red," she told Wanbao reporters. She suffered multiple fractures all over her body, broken ribs and is expected to take at least a month to recover. Closed-circuit television footage was not able to determine if Mrs Pua had dashed across the road when the light had not yet turned green or if the van driver had beaten the red light. ------ Remember that earlier video - where the taxi jammed brakes after running red lights, and managed to stop before hitting the car? This van was not so lucky... hope the punishment is severe. Gotta teach drivers to slow down at amber and stop at red light; not to save a couple of minutes by running the red lights; but risking harming people.
  13. http://dai.ly/x151mnc Motorsports crash scenes are one of the most popular. While we are no sadists, these scenes usually add that bit of extra spice and drama to the sports. But of course, some are more spectacular than others. Let's start by saying even by rally crash standard, this is terrifying. All we can tell is that the driver locked up his brakes, failed to negotiate a turn, went straight into the barrier - and the rest is history. Fortunately, both the driver and co-driver are unhurt from the accident.
  14. Romantic meals right at the edge of the Singapore River will soon become a thing of the past at Robertson Quay and Clarke Quay, when new rules on outdoor refreshment areas kick in this week. Under new guidelines from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), diners' tables cannot be placed right by the riverside. The aim, it said, is to "free up the riverfront for public access". The new rules are effective immediately, but the URA said it would give operators "sufficient time" to clear the riverside tables. Outdoor tables on the side of the walkway away from the river can stay, and restaurants can also apply to develop second-storey extensions from buildings to create dining areas there. 15. How come nearly 3000 'Chu Pa Chieh' decendants landed in Shanghai River ..... Some believe that those pigs got some kind of virus and died. The farmer then dump them into the river. hmmmmmm............ can forget eating roasted pork in Shanghai for the time being while holidaying there ...... From Yahoo : Thousands of dead pigs found in Shanghai river Nearly 3,000 dead pigs have been found floating in Shanghai's main waterway, the Chinese city's government said Monday as residents expressed fears over possible contamination of drinking water. Shanghai's water bureau said over the last two days workers had fished 2,813 pigs out of the Huangpu river, which cuts through the commercial hub and creates its waterfront Bund district. In the southwestern district of Songjiang Monday, workers used long-handled rakes to pull the bloated animal carcasses, which were turning from pink to grey, out of the water onto a small boat, an AFP photographer witnessed. The stench of rotting pork hung over the river as workers dumped the partially disintegrating bodies into the hold. The dead pigs included both piglets and adults weighing hundreds of pounds, the Shanghai city government said. link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/plague-pigs-shang...-045722657.html

  22. Chinese mistresses jump into the river for BMW ANN - Friday, January 7Send IM Story Print Beijing (China Daily/ANN) - Two 25-year-old women who shared the affections of the same man in Jinan, Shandong province, China, jumped into the Yellow River in the hope of snagging a BMW. The pair were both mistresses of a man surnamed Wang, who had separately promised to buy each of them a BMW car. When the two women ran into each other on Jan 3, they began to quarrel about the car. One of them said she would do anything for Wang and jumped into the Yellow River to show she meant it. Not to be outdone, the second one followed suit. A passer-by surnamed Mi saw the two women, one of whom had cut her leg on an icicle, and pulled them from the river before calling their lover. Wang, a construction supplier from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, arrived at the scene with his wife, who denounced the two women and told her husband to return the BMW to her. An anonymous party reported the ensuing row to the police, who recorded the incident, and Wang paid Mi for rescuing the women from the river. This is so hilarious.

  25. SELVA EATING HOUSE. Located in between 5 stars chicken rice and 7-11. Please think twice before patronising this coffeeshop for indian food. It is a hyper fxxked up and fuming experience for me and my family on 4 jul 2010, 0030am. 3 of us sat down, waited for around 5 minutes no one served us the menu or ask what we want. Eventually the indian man came over after i stood in front of their stall for another few minutes and we ordered nasi goreng mutton w/o chili, kopi tarik and teh-O less sugar. They apologised no mutton so i changed to nasi goreng chicken w/o chili. The indian wrote our orders down. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the indian came back apologising that he forgot our orders. Annoyed, i repeated the orders clearly once again and the guy again wrote it down. The drinks came pretty fast. The Teh-O did not come with less sugar but was still acceptable. The Kopi Tarik was way too sweet. Couldnt finish the whole cup. The nasi goreng came after about 10 minutes, WITHOUT FORK & SPOON. I tried a few attempts to call the waiter but no one responded. So with more annoyance, i walked over to another table to get my utensils. Soon eneough i found that the nasi goreng did not came w/o chili. But damn, i was already too hungry to complain. So i decided to eat it anyway. Throughout my dining process, i kept chewing onto broken pieces of chicken bones (as seen in picture), though stomach filled with fury, still managed to finish up the nasi goreng. When billing, i decided to express my feedback to the indian man. I walked to the counter as i did not wanna create a scene. I recounted all the unpleasant service and quality of food, then demanded to pay only for the nasi goreng and to get a waiver off the drinks. I truly think this is not an unreasonable compensation deserved for a mood-spoilt customer. Guess what, the indian man insisted us to pay in full, although apologising profusely. So then again, didnt wanna create a scene & therefore paid him the rest and left. That left us a foul mood weekend night, especially after watching Argentina & Brazil lost in a row. Goddamned it.
