  1. Have to say that Kia is really stepping up the game. Basing on these silhouette shots, I think it 同父异母 (same father different mother) sibling, Hyundai Tucson, has no fight... The official teaser campaign for the 2022 Kia Sportage has begun. The new Sportage will be officially unveiled on 8 June 2021,which is exactly 1 week from now.
  2. The compact SUV segment is the probably the most competitive segment in the market today, with superb new entries such as the new CR-V (my personal favourite), new Tiguan, new CX-5, highly acclaimed Sportage, Tucson, facelifted X-Trail, Forester etc. And pricing in Singapore spans from SGD110k-ish for base versions of Forester/Tucson to almost SGD200k for the Tiguan R-line. Putting aside the question of which is best, I wondered which is best value. Because of differing AD margins, OMV games, and pricing dynamics due to strong brand loyalties, the car pricing in Singapore can be quite out of line with the rest of the world. I wanted to figure out, for instance, how fair is the SGD160k being asked for the new CR-V, Tiguan etc? Have set out the summary table in the spreadsheet link below, and the methodology below that. There are many possible methodologies, but this is a quick and dirty one that appears to provide reasonably defensible conclusions. Essentially, the quick and dirty conclusions appear to be:- 1. Median SUV is Nissan X-Trail, which is priced about at the average price of the segment for both Singapore and Australia 2. Best value compact SUVs in SIngapore are - Forester XT: Priced 8% above average in Australia and 9% below average in Singapore - Sportage 2.0 GT: Priced 7% above average in Australia and 10% below average in Singapore 3. For the new SUVs: - CR-V: the 7 seater CR-V is considerably better value that the 5-seater. - Tiguan 1.4: Not great value if priced at SGD160k. In Australia, this is priced below the equivalent X-Trail. - CX-5: Best value for a new SUV. It was an interesting experiment for me, so thought I'd share the conclusions above. Am not saying this is the definitive guide, but its a useful perspective. Spreadsheet link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nh8lN2guUJ6dh_Nt53i2zQMaW3wSCTB-v1lItsz88Z0/edit?usp=sharing Methodology:- 1. Australia pricing was used as the comp set because:- - Both RHD countries - Both countries import all the cars being compared, so no local content taxation distortions - All cars compared are non-luxury models, so no luxury tax considerations in Australia - All are Cat B cars, so no COE distortions in Singapore 2. Used mid to high spec cars for comps - Pricing range is between AUD35 to 42k - No point comparing poverty spec versions because the versions sold in Singapore are all mid to high spec 3. Compared cars using identical / similar spec levels in both countries - Had to make some manual adjustments for engine/features set differential in Australia for some cars 4. Used recommended retail price in Australia, and listed in Singapore - For Forester XT, last known pricing was about SGD127k, but other cars are mostly listed price - Can amend spreadsheet if anyone can provide updated numbers

  12. The European Registry must be a bigger thorn in the side of automakers than the likes of Brenda Priddy and her minions. After all, the new-vehicle images the Registry keeps in its database are devoid of camouflage, and the latest to show its face (and rear, and roof, and flanks) appears to be the 2011 Kia Sportage. Based on these images, the new Sportage looks to be a big step up from the friendly but aged current model. Underneath slick new sheetmetal that's in keeping with Kia's current family design themes, the Sportage will likely share much with the just-unveiled Hyundai Tucson. No word yet on when we'll see the trucklet's official unveiling, but given that Kia's usually good for a significant reveal at the New York Auto Show, we'll wager that at the very least, we'll see the Sportage's North American debut in the Javits Center in late March/early April. Stay tuned. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/16/europea...1-kia-sportage/ If the real thing looks like this, it's really fabulous, what ya think?

  15. In 2009, Hyundai and KIA had to recall 700,000 units of their models due to defective brake switches. Unfortunately, not learning from their experiences, these South Korean automakers repeat their mistake and this time, it's even worse. They now have to recall a total of 1.6 million units of cars they have produced due to the exact same problem. The brake switch defect may prevent the brake lamps from illuminating even when the brake pedal is actually stepped on. Of course, this is a big deal as it may trigger rear-end collisions. In addition to that, the defect may fail to cancel the cruise control feature while braking, prevent the push-button starter from functioning, and may even block the gear shift in the neutral position. Both KIA and Hyundai will start contacting dealers and customers of the affected models in June 2013 and will provide necessary replacements free of charge. The list of the affected models is as follows: - 2007 KIA Sedona - 2007-2009 Hyundai Tucson - 2008-2009 Hyundai Veracruz - 2007-2010 KIA Rondo - 2007-2010 KIA Sportage - 2007-2010 Hyundai Elantra - 2007-2011 KIA Sorento - 2007-2011 Hyundai Santa Fe - 2010-2011 KIA Soul - 2010-2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 2011 Hyundai Sonata - 2011 KIA Optima

Just a few questions on 2008/2009 Sportage 1) Is the engine using timing chain or belt? 2) does the steering able to adjust telescopic and elevation? 3) arm rest got 2 levels meaning got one deep part and one shallow tray for small items? 4) the keyword stock DVD can connect with reverse camera? 5) side mirror got electric folding and auto fold? 6) Roughly how much the additional front and rear bumper add on and side steps cost? 7) it seems the speedo meter got no temp meter leh. Can help as looking at a preowned unit.

  19. Hi all forum bros...I know this question is not new here but i still don't few comfortable about some questions. Maybe someone can convince me on really which SUV to go for. :( Understand from reading here that the FC and performance of both are similar......(am i right?) I went to C&C as well as Hyndai last weekend. Tucson selling at 62K and Sportage at $63.99K. At a lower price Hyndai is offering me a higher price (2K more) to buy my old car vs C&C. Off hand, i will save 4K if i go for Tuscon. I love the look of Sportage and don't mind paying for the 4K just to get it. But i am worried about the resale price that i will get when i want to sell it off in years to come. Anyone can advice please?
  20. But C&C missed out this one: KIA Cee'd How come? I don't mind to be a kiasi lang leh. [:p]
  21. They just keep getting better. These are the first official images of what the new Kia Magentis will look like and who is to say that it can be anything close to being ugly? These official images will be showcased at this year's New York Motor Show in April and will be released in American and Korean showrooms to consumers later in the year. No news yet about its arrival here in Singapore but that's always the case with new cars. We just cannot deny the fact that we are still too tiny and insignificant to the world. And that's a pity because I'm sure many potential car buyers, in this segment especially, will be looking forward to this particular model which sits in the large family saloon category, and more often than not for most Kias these days, they are affordable and value for money. Chief designer Peter Schreyer has not missed a beat with Kia's designs and this is no exception. The new Magentis is said to be longer, wider and lower than the outgoing model, and it also features a longer wheelbase. As for the engine, details are still under wraps but sources say that there will be a 2.0 litre petrol and diesel unit which will be the main powerplant for the Magentis with a chance of smaller capacity engines if there is sufficient demand. This will definitely be a car to look out for in the next 2 years or so as its release in Europe is scheduled to be in 2011. So maybe we'll hear from Kia then..

  24. Was driving toward Jurong along PIE at about 4.50pm on the outer lane (1st Lane) at a speed of 100km/h. When reaching the overhead bridge off Jurong Town Hall Road (PIE), spotted on my rear view mirror a "White Sportage" travelling very fast toward me. In no time, it caught up with me and was tailgating me for about 600 meters and I decided to pull to the centre lane to let it overtake. What do you know, he wave thanks .... A very kilat Sportage indeed with number SJH 6*** and it turn left to the direction of Coperation Road from PIE. Till we meet again along PIE ...........
