  1. TL;DR - Cam-car's attempt to filter behind the McLaren Convoy was disrupted by a McLaren 720S that sped past to prevent overtaking. A perfect example of monkey on wheels. Watch this 33-second video to see how this cam-car tried to sandwich between two McLarens but almost got 'rekt'. So what happened? The cam-car signaled right with the intention to filter to the next lane behind the McLaren Convoy. However, his/her attempt failed as a McLaren 720S sped up to prevent the cam-car from cutting into the lane - which was not wrong of the 720S but the cam-car definitely thought otherwise. The space between the 720S and the Convoy was the safety distance maintained and it was unsafe for the cam-car to overtake in that situation. But of course, the cam-car was clearly unhappy about it. In case you didn't know how powerful the 720S is: It's a supercar for a reason. Online Chat: Seems that everyone felt that the cam-car was the one in the wrong; he/she should’ve waited behind the trailer until the 720S has passed before filtering. Guess the cam-car just self-sabotaged him/herself by sending this clip to SGRV...? Bottom Line Driving without due care or reasonable consideration for other road users constitutes aggressive driving that can cause harm to other road users - it pays to be extra cautious on the road! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. https://cnaluxury.channelnewsasia.com/people/bugatti-singapore-victor-kwan-wearnes-prestige-189451?cid=FBcna&fbclid=IwAR1uEuwJPFg_N5VKCgQAO-g6XgXR6WqIrgtqv5hXfpiBLxa9xTkD-IJLu8U A multimillion-dollar Bugatti sports car can’t even be legally driven on Singapore roads, so if the opening of its first showroom in Southeast Asia is not the ultimate flex, we don’t know what is. The French carmaker strictly produces only left-hand drives and you could scour the world and never find a right-hand drive Bugatti, assures Victor Kwan, managing director of Wearnes Prestige. Why, then, open a showroom here? “When you talk luxury, you think real estate, fashion, automotive… and Bugatti is at the top of luxury automotive, so to have a Bugatti showroom here is a significant moment for the Singapore automotive market and signifies Singapore’s status as a luxury hub,” said Kwan, who heads all the ultra-premium marques under the Wearnes distribution umbrella, including Bentley, Aston Martin, Alpine and Lotus across the region. The new showroom, one of only 30 Bugatti showrooms in the world, is it's second in Asia after Japan. The space was designed by Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, France, and boasts room for two of these achingly beautiful beasts. Currently, however, only one takes centre stage: The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, which can be yours but can’t be driven off the lot, for a super cool €3.1 million (S$4.98 million) for a base model without options. Now that’s a big chunk of change of Crazy Rich Asians proportions and owning a Bugatti (especially in Singapore) clearly puts you snugly in the league of one percent-ers. Or more like zero-point-five percent-ers. ==================== Thoughts on Bugatti opening a showroom to show off their sports cars that can't be driven in SG? 😮
  3. Over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of sports cars racing and speeding on the roads, especially late at night. While most of these drivers are experienced and often race without injury, it is not all that uncommon for them to get involved in a major accident. With one wrong move, these drivers might find themselves crashing their precious supercar beyond salvation. This then begs the question – Should there be a new class of license for sports cars? What is a sports car? Once used to describe two-seater cars with a soft top that are eligible for competition in the postwar era, the definition behind the term ‘sports car’ today seems to have faded into a rather grey area. For most consumers, a ‘sports car’ might be used to refer to any car that was manufactured by luxury automobile companies such as Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. While these brands are famous for their sports cars, Asian automakers like Honda, Toyota and Nissan are often referred to as 'bread and butter', and not deemed with the same high regard (even though these brands produced some legendary sports cars like the NSX, Supra and GT-R) For the sake of this article, we shall define a ‘sports car’ as cars with a high-powered engine of more than 200 bhp, and generally seats two people. This includes a wide array of offerings, such as the BMW Z4, Porsche 718 Boxster and Alpine A110. More implementations for sports cars in SG Following the tragic Tanjong Pagar accident earlier this year, the government has installed more safety features to decrease speeding incidents along long stretches of roads. According to the Straits Times, road dividers, traffic lights and pedestrian crossings will be implemented. The Traffic Police has stepped up patrols and enforcement in the area as well to deter and detect similar traffic offences. The accident occurred after a speeding white BMW M4 Coupe, a powerful vehicle that produces 510 bhp and 650 Nm of torque, crashed into a vacant shophouse unit and burst into flames. All five individuals in the car were killed. Call for a sports car license Although the Tanjong Pagar accident has been deemed to be an isolated incident in the area, there have been more instances of sports cars getting involved in crashes all over the island. Some of these include: As much as I love fast cars, the reality is that there is nothing in life that would prepare any driver to pilot a rear-wheel-drive performance car that puts out close to 500 bhp. No matter how many years of driving experience one has unless it’s been in a high-powered sports car, it is a whole different ball game when it comes to a Mustang or a Miata. Like pilot licenses, where multi-engine planes and seaplanes require extra training and are add-ons to a standard private license, there should be a special class of driving license should be implemented for these fast vehicles. Drivers of all ages should be better prepared if they want to drive a sports car. Just my two-cents worth. Please don't roast me. --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. We’ll even give you $100 cash if you find a better offer elsewhere! 4. Hey guys ! Just curious and wanting to know cars that have a similar technology to what Formula 1 car has. The closest could ever get to a formula 1 car and why. Could be looks, technology, speed, all of the above? you name it. Personally my top 2 picks are the LaFerrari as it is as close as it could get to a F1 car for its technology, and Lexus LFA for its Screaming V10 sound.
  5. Hi everyone, my brother's current car is going to the graveyard soon (Honda Civic 1.6A) and he is looking to buy a sports car (PARF/COE) car with 7-8k dep/year. Since I do not drive a sports car myself, I casually suggested the usual models such as Civic Type R, Subaru WRX/WRX STI, Evo 10, Toyota MRS, Mazda MX-5, Mazda RX-8. 2/4/5-seater are fine as he does not have any children. Fellow drivers who are driving such models can kindly advise on the maintenance or any major issues driving these cars? Appreciate every reply! 🙂
  6. Lamborghini has revealed the new Huracán Evo Spyder in full ahead of its first public sighting at the Geneva motor show next week. The convertible supercar follows the launch of the Huracán Evo, an updated and more powerful Huracán coupé, late last year. It features the same 631bhp 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10, resulting in a 0-62mph time in 3.1 seconds. That's 0.2 sec slower than the hard-top model. The 201mph top speed is identical to the coupé, however, despite the Spyder's 120kg weight penalty. Much of that extra weight is down to the car's soft-top mechanism, using an electrohydraulic set-up to lower it in 17 seconds flat up to a speed of 31mph. Automatic pop-up rollover bars are hidden behind the seats, while the rear window can be retracted electrically whether the roof is up or down, allowing the car's engine note to be more prominent to those in the cabin. The Huracán Evo's range of new chassis technologies, including rear-wheel steering and four-wheel torque vectoring, transfer unchanged to the Spyder. Lambo claims the car's aerodynamic prowess, with more than five times the downforce and aero efficiency of the old Huracán, is also maintained, while cabin airflow is said to be "minimised" to assure a "quiet cockpit environment" - when the V10 isn't on song, of course.
  7. @kusje have spurred me thinking what exactly is a sports car? In today aspect, the line seems to be blurred out by quite a bit. So let's do a debate car by car. And we should start with the not here not there Honda Accord Euro R. From my understanding from Netcarshow.com. Honda produced 2 euro R variant, the CL7 and the CL1. I never include CL9 as it is the ang mo Acura version. Honda Accord EuroR The Honda Accord is an automobile manufactured by Honda, redesigned in 2003 and sold worldwide. Accords sold in Japan (and elsewhere in the world) vary greatly from the US models. In Japan, full-featured Accords are offered. Until 1997, the Accord bi-yearly facelift or four-year redesign was always released a year prior in Japan. Older generations of Accords such as the US 1990-1993 (4th Generation) was actually offered in years 1989-1992 in Japan, and 5th Generation from 1993-1996. Other differences were in features. The 1989-1992 (4th generation) offered in other countries received unheard of equipment for an Accord (until recently) such as a Navigation System, TV, mini-disc player, digital automatic climate control, traction control, Anti-Lock brakes, side-marker lights, heated mirrors, outside temperature gauge, an in-cabin air refiner, map lights, seat heaters, standard fog lamps, headlight washers, rear fog light, full-power seats, telescoping bumper pole, half-mast antenna switch. An Accord Si and Si-T model can also be found in some countries including Japan along with a "Euro R" trim in Europe. In 1998, a major redesign took place for the Accord for its sixth-generation, the largest Accord to date reverted back to its more conservative roots. The wagon was discontinued in North America but remained available elsewhere. Internationally, the Accord split into two distinct versions, one for North America, and another for sale worldwide. The models are often referred to as the Japanese and North American Accords. The larger North American model is based on the Japanese Honda Inspire, while Japanese Accord is sold in North America as the Acura TSX. The Accord was redesigned in 2003 without a size increase of a similar magnitude to the North American model. In comparison, clearly, the North American version is distinct from the worldwide model, being both larger and heftier. The F-series VTEC engines made its debut in the European and Japanese Accords, and the 90° C-series V6 engine was replaced by a more-compact 60° J-series unit for the US Accord. Honda offered the North American Accord in a number of Asian markets, with mixed sales. Both variants of the Accord are sold in Australia-the North American model and the worldwide model. The Japanese model offered a number of hi-tech features not seen elsewhere in the North American range, and minor adjustments to body styling. The Japanese Accord and Inspire also feature Honda's Intelligent Driver System or HIDS which feature safety enhancements such as the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and adaptive cruise So what you all think? Is Honda Accord Euro R a sport car? @chaosmyth @kusje @kdash
  8. SINGAPORE — Ferrari is Singapore’s top exotic car maker, at least according to 2014’s sales figures. Can the new 488 GTB pictured above keep the Italian brand ahead of its rivals? The new car is the Maranello-based carmaker’s follow-up to the 458 Italia. It has a turbo engine that hurls it to 200km/h in just 8.3 seconds. Ferrari says it comfortably exceeds 330km/h. That level of performance makes the 488 GTB the benchmark in its class, says Ferrari. MORE: Here’s another turbo Ferrari In Singapore, at least, Ferrari seems to set the mark when it comes to sales. The brand put 31 new cars in the road here in 2014. That’s far ahead of McLaren (which sold 11 cars in Singapore last year) and its more traditional rival, Lamborghini (with 10 cars sold). Will Ferrari’s switch to turbo technology power the brand even further ahead? source :
  9. my friend has this rare sports car, only one in singapore, he does not dare to service it at normal workshop because he scared those mechanics not well versed with the car and later cause more problems. does anyone know any reliable workshop that loves to tinker with those rare cars, e.g. classic vintage cars, kit cars etc. the mechanic must be willing to learn and most importantly treat it with care. my friend brought it to a previous workshop the last time and the mechanic spoiled his headlight cover because he simply did not know how to open it. i cannot divulge the exact car model because it will expose my friend and he is those low profile type. all i can say is it is a continental marque. thanks for the guru's advice.
  10. Just out of curiousity, if you had to choose all over again, what type of cars will you pick? This is of course choosen in your own current situation (be it expanding family, chasing a new chick etc...). It should also be within your own means...otherwise everyone will just pick 458 italia spider.
  11. According to a new study conducted by marketing research firm Harris Poll, most women think that men with fast or exotic cars are arrogant -- or worse, that they're insecure and compensating for their shortcomings. If you're looking for attention from the opposite sex, you should probably re-think your game plan. Harris' study was conducted online in March, fielding answers from 2,167 American men and women 18 and older. The survey didn't uncover anything especially interesting about men's opinions, although 38 percent said that women who drove fast cars were likely show-offs, and a small number -- six percent -- suspected those women were "emotional" (whatever that means). Among women, however, the findings were far clearer: 56 percent of women say that men who own exotic or fast cars are arrogant, and 17 percent see them as insecure. 48 percent say that a car is a reflection of a man's economic status. 46 percent say that a car reflects a man's image of himself. 32 percent say that a car can reveal what kind of family man a guy will be. In other words, among women looking for long-term relationships, a Lexus sedan may score you more points than a Lotus roadster. According to Lawrence Cervantes at AnastasiaDate (the site that commissioned the study), "It's no surprise that men fantasize about driving an exotic car with a beautiful woman in the passenger seat, but this new data proves that fantasy is better left for a weekend with the guys. When it comes to dating, women want a grounded man, and his car is a clear reflection of this." This shouldn't be terribly shocking. Several previous studies have shown that women tend to prefer frugal cars and that they're not drawn to high-end rides (except Porsches, for some reason). That said, we know that old habits die hard, and for some of you, giving up the hod rod simply isn't an option. If you insist on being "that guy", Harris offers a sliver of hope, because there are a handful of women who will be turned on by your car. According to the poll: 21 percent of women say that they've found a man more attractive once they've seen the kind of car that he drives. 10 percent say that they would date an unattractive guy if he had an exotic car. Those small numbers mean that the pickings will be slim, though, and the competition may be fierce. What do you think?
  12. Buy a penthouse at V on Shenton and get a discount on an Aston Martin sports car? To celebrate Aston Martin Singapore's 20th anniversary, the British luxury sports car manufacturer is partnering V on Shenton to offer new owners of a three-bedroom or penthouse unit discounts on selected car models. Among the six models available for discounts are the V12 Vantage S launched in Singapore earlier this year and the Vanquish. V on Shenton, developed by United Industrial Corporation (UIC), is a twin-tower development comprising a 23-storey office building and a 54-storey residential tower. The mixed development is due for completion in 2017. To date, the project has sold close to 70 per cent of its 510 units of studio, one to three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, a spokeswoman from sales agent Savills told BT. Asked if the marketing campaign was targeted at moving the condo's bigger units, she said: "Sales are well spread across studio to three-bedroom. The two-bedroom units have been really popular." The condominium released mostly three-bedroom apartments and penthouses for sale in its second launch, she added. Of the total 510 units, 104 are three-bedders and eight are penthouses. Prices start from $3 million for a three-bedder (about $2,212 per sq ft) and $10.3 million for a penthouse (about $3,107 per sq ft). In this promotion available for April only, all selected Aston Martins will also come with options or accessories totalling up to $40,000, Savills said. "Cross collaborations with like-minded brands provide us with a good avenue to create new excitement in the market," the sales agent explained. Agreeing, Nina Lim, marketing manager for Aston Martin Singapore, said: "An Aston Martin combines three important elements: power, beauty, soul - these we see embodied within the architecture and vision of V on Shenton." V on Shenton show suites are located at The Gateway East Tower at 152 Beach Road.
  13. The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG Coupe will have its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in April 2014, as the most powerful member of the BlueDIRECT engine family. The 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine boasts an output of 585bhp and 900Nm of torque - linked to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission. This allows the performance Gran Tourer to accelerate from nought to 100km/h under 4.3 seconds, and on to reach a governed top speed of 250km/h. With a combined figure of 10.1L/100km - the two-door model is the most fuel-efficient model in its competitive segment. The S 63 AMG Coupe is lighter by 65kg - thanks to a lighter lithium-ion battery, forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimised braking system. Furthermore, the entire outer skin and the front end of the body are made of aluminium. There are two variants of the S 63 AMG Coupe - with rear-wheel drive or with AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. With the 4MATIC system, 67 percent of the power is sent to the rear axle and the rest to the front. For the suspension - the rear-wheel drive AMG Coupe is equipped with MAGIC BODY CONTROL, while the all-wheel drive variant features the AIRMATIC system with the adaptive damping system ADS PLUS. Inside the car, high-quality materials and fine workmanship are combined with a sporty, exclusive design idiom. The newly developed AMG sports seats offer the driver and front passenger optimum lateral support. One particularly exclusive model in the range is the S 63 AMG Coupe 'Edition 1', which will be available a year after market launch. Swarovski crystals in the LED headlamps (not the one above) lend the car an irresistible look, while the cabin is trimmed in exclusive nappa leather with contrast topstitching. The roof liner and the sun screens are in DINAMICA microfibre. Further features include AMG Exclusive floor mats, door sill panels with illuminated AMG lettering and a high-gloss black poplar wood trim. Also included is an 'Edition 1' branding on the sports steering wheel.
  14. The 4.4-litre V8 engine in the Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo Gran Coupe develops 540bhp and a high 730Nm of torque available between 2,800 and 5,000rpm. The bi-turbo lump is linked to a capable ZF eight-speed transmission with Alpina Switch-Tronic for a creamy power delivery. Bundled with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive technology, the B6 Gran Coupe blasts to the century mark from nought in a dizzying 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 318km/h - making it the fastest accelerating BMW Alpina to date. Direct injection and valvetronic contribute to the B6 Bi-Turbo Gran Coupe's low consumption and emission figures of just 9.6km/L and CO2 emissions of 242g/km in the combined cycle. Typical design features of Alpina blend seamlessly and elegantly into the contours of the Gran Coupe and accentuate its sporty, powerful appearance. In particular, the 20-inch Alpina Classic light alloy wheels complement the long, smooth proportions of the Gran Coupe. The front spoiler with integrated, slightly forward positioned splitter directs more air over and around rather than underneath the vehicle, thereby stabilising the front end at high speeds. The design of the front spoiler ensures the effective flow of sufficient air to various radiator modules of the performance cooling systems. The Blue Alpina instruments, hand stitched steering wheel in Lavalina leather and illuminated door sills are just some of the exclusive features of the Gran Coupe's interior. The stainless steel exhaust system with trademark twin pipes returns a deep exhaust note - while an optional titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic is also available.
  15. Building on the proven Boxster virtues of lightweight, responsive handling and a charismatic flat-six engine, the Porsche Boxster Gran Turismo Sport (GTS) features an optimised version of the proven 3.4-litre engine, which has been tuned to produce 330bhp and 370Nm of torque. Further emphasising the distinctive character of the GTS is the standard fitted Sport Chrono package and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). These offer the driver the opportunity to modify the damper stiffness and to change the throttle characteristics of the engine. In conjunction with the optional PDK seven-speed double-clutch transmission, the Launch Control function catapults the Boxster GTS from zero to 100km/h in in 4.7 seconds. The new GTS is the also first Boxster to offer the potential of maxing out at 280km/h via the standard manual six-speed shifter. More importantly, the GTS is Porsche's first mid-engined roadster to be certified according to the Euro 6 emissions standard, and achieves an overall fuel consumption of 14.6km/L, when equipped with the PDK, and 13.1km/L with the manual transmission. The Boxster GTS can also be specified with a new, optional sports chassis configuration that lowers the ride height by 20mm. From the outside, the new Boxster GTS features subtle yet unmistakable visual clues including black 20-inch Carrera S alloy wheels, with 235/35 tyres at the front and 265/35 tyres at the rear. A distinctively styled front spoiler and black finish Bi-Xenon headlights - with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) are standard. The cabin greets the occupants with sports seats and leather trim and akin to other GTS models, the interior ambience is refined with Alcantara elements.
  16. Since its debut in 2005, the Cayman has earned a particular reputation as a driver's car. With an improved engine and sharpened chassis - Porsche believes the Cayman GTS sets a new benchmark for sporting performance. The Cayman GTS is powered by a charismatic 3.4-litre flat-six engine, based on the lump from the Cayman S - but has been refined to churn out an extra 15bhp to 340bhp and 380Nm of pulling power. The standard fitted Sport Chrono package and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) offer the driver the opportunity to modify the damper stiffness, along with subtly changing the throttle characteristics of the engine. The Cayman GTS hits the century mark from nought in a brisk 4.6 seconds via the Launch Control function, when fitted with the optional PDK seven-speed double-clutch transmission. With the standard manual six-speed transmission, the car continues to a top speed of 284km/h. The Euro 6 compliant Cayman GTS achieves an overall fuel consumption of 14.6km/L and 13.3km/L, when equipped with PDK and manual transmission, respectively. Black 20-inch Carrera S alloy wheels are shot with 235/35 tyres at the front and 265/35 tyres at the rear. The ride height is lowered by 20mm when specified with a new, optional sports chassis configuration. The interior is furnished in standard leather trim while enhanced with Alcantara elements.
  17. Ever since firing its CEO Dany Bahar in June 2012 and reporting a near $200 million loss, Lotus has sought to find solid footing. One way the British marque planned to achieve this was by entering the motorcycle business, promising to deliver a Lotus "hyper bike," built by German race team Kodewa and the Holzer Group, by the turn of the year. The storied sports car maker has become more of a branding company than the automotive innovator it once was, enlisting others to do the heavy lifting while licensing the Lotus name for the sheet metal. This was evident in the 2010 IndyCar season, slapping Lotus logos on the carbon body that covered the Honda powerplant (they did enter an engine in 2012, although I'm not sure Lotus wants to be reminded of that). In Formula One, the Lotus F1 team is powered by Renault, and according to Lotus' most recent press release, the C-01 bike "is not designed, engineered or produced by Group Lotus" at all. It remains another licensing deal where Lotus plays consultant, with Kodewa producing the bike and Holzer handling development. The glorious retro exterior was designed by Daniel Simon, the man behind the awesome glow-in-the-dark blue "Tron: Legacy" bike. It features carbon-fiber and integrated titanium, along with aerospace-quality steel. Powered by a 2-cylinder, four-stroke V-twin motor delivering 200 hp, weighing a tick under 400 lbs., the C-01 promises to be as racy as the Lotus name depicts. Only 100 bikes will be produced, and Lotus is yet to reveal pricing. (Translation: Outrageous.) A range of colors will be available, from the John Player Special black and gold from Senna's early years to the legendary British racing green from Jim Clark's latter. The Martini livery looks more Lancia than Lotus (Lotus had a darker background on its Martini F1 car), but it's nonetheless sensational. No word on whether luminous Tron blue will be an option. Does it matter that it's not technically a Lotus? Well, that depends on your view. What we know for sure is it's about as stunning a motorbike as one could imagine, which isn't surprising given its designer. It may not have the strongest business, but Lotus still knows how to get attention.
  18. Audi launched its flagship performance series line, the RS, with the Audi RS2 Avant twenty years ago. To pay tribute to the founding model, Audi will launch a special edition RS4 Avant Nogaro from early 2014. Although previewed through digital media, the car will celebrate its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, finished in Nogaro blue and carrying exclusive equipment. Like its forefather, the customised Nogaro blue pearl effect paint finish is the most noticeable visual signal of the anniversary model. Originally, the RS2 Avant was optionally finished with an exclusive Nogaro blue hue, recalling the two victories achieved by Frank Biela on the Nogaro circuit in the French Touring Car Championship of 1993. The RS4 Avant Nogaro houses a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 powerplant that delivers 450bhp at 8,250rpm, with a peak torque of 430Nm available between 4,000 and 6,000rpm. The lump propels the RS4 Avant from nought to century in a brisk 4.7 seconds before climbing to a governed speed of 280km/h. It sips 10.7L/100km - for a CO2 equivalent of 249g/km. In the sporty interior, Audi offers two different upholstery versions. In both cases, the side sections are covered with black Valcona leather, Alcantara synthetic fibres for the centre sections and door trim inserts are coloured either black or Nogaro blue. A modern classic: the Audi Avant RS2 from 1994 The Audi RS2 was the first RS model from Audi, and also the brand's first high-performance model to combine everyday usability with a dynamic character. Audi developed the RS2 in cooperation with Porsche, with assembly occurring at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Its appearance alone was indicative of the power it held within. The front bumper featured powerful air inlets, and the grille was painted black. The rump of the RS2 Avant was dominated by a thick horizontal band of light that emphasises the width of the vehicle. The force fed 2.2-litre five-cylinder engine delivered a modest 315bhp and 410Nm of torque and sprinted to the century mark in a respectable 5.4 seconds and reached a top speed of 262km/h. A six-speed manual transmission delivered the power to the quattro drivetrain, which had a manually activated locking differential at the rear axle. Fast forward twenty years later and the Audi RS6 Avant, the most powerful car in its lineup, is armed with 560bhp and a dizzying 700Nm of torque from a 4.0-litre V8. Dubbed the everyday supercar, the RS6 Avant completes the sprint to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds - 0.7 seconds quicker than a V8 powered Audi R8.
  19. The Toyota FT-1 is a daring design study that will be unveiled in Detroit, U.S.A, which signals the direction of Toyota's future sports car designs. The FT-1 aims to show what can be achieved when the focus is creating a sports car design that will truly excite. The FT in the FT-1 stands for 'Future Toyota' while the number 1 in the nameplate represents the ultimate. The project started nearly two years ago at Calty Design Research, Inc. (Calty), Toyota's design centre in California, U.S.A. The team was inspired by history - with the team, referencing several sports car in Toyota's sports car heritage - going as far back as the 2000GT coupe, released in 1967. In addition, the concept draws inspiration from Calty's more recent sports car concept work such as the FT-HS and the Lexus LF-LC. The bold and sharply styled face suggests powerful performance while dynamic air-intakes, exhaust ports and a McLaren P1 like - retractable wing at the rear - give physical form to the Toyota FT-1's optimum aerodynamic performance. Meanwhile, the cockpit's wraparound windshield and side glass openings are a distinct nod to the design of the legendary Toyota 2000GT. Furthermore, the A-pillars have been positioned as far back as possible to provide increased cornering visibility. The interior is highlighted with an ergonomic cockpit that aims to solely focus on the driver and enhance his/her driving experience. A delta-shaped display zone surrounds and integrates the driver to provide an exhilarating feeling of connectedness with the vehicle. An F1 inspired steering wheel and a colour heads-up display keeps the driver's attention at bay to what he should be doing best - driving. Apparently Toyota's new approach to design will see the marque trying to produce cars that connects more deeply with customers, generating a more satisfying ownership experience that complements the firms legendary reputation for quality, dependability and reliability. Having said all that, ,lets be honest here for a minute. Toyota - being Toyota - can pen concepts that rival the likes of masterpieces from Italy, but their actual production car would resemble nothing like their penned artwork. Remember what happened to the 86, or even the latest Corolla (American spec) ? Having said so, the mildly anime like FT-1 looks drop dead incredible and Toyota will have a global best seller if they can materialise this vision.
  20. Subaru recently announced that they will be releasing a track-ready BRZ straight from the assembly line. It is known as the BRZ RA Racing and this version is made exclusively for the Japanese market. Just like any other track or racing versions of the BRZ (or Toyota 86), the BRZ RA Racing is fitted with essential items a person needs when he/she hits the racing tracks. Luxurious comforts such as air-conditioning and stereo players have been left out and replaced with a six-point roll cage (with sidebar), a four point FIA certified racing harness and new floor mats. The BRZ RA Racing was designed with braking performance in mind. The front end receives brake ducts and both front and rear brakes get ventilated discs. The car also receives a Torsen limited slip differential. Removable front and rear tow hooks are placed for easy transportation tasks. In the engine bay, the only additional item is an air-cooled engine cooler and it is clearly seen at the left side of the front snout. Main reasons why the 2.0-litre Boxer engine is left untouched is because that most track enthusiasts would prefer to use their own racing components or parts. As mentioned above, the Subaru BRZ RA Racing is made only for the Japanese market and it is priced at around US$31,500.
  21. Almost a year ago, BMW and Toyota signed a memorandum of understanding which will see both auto companies working together on lithium-ion battery development. A few months later, they expanded that agreement and part of it includes the architectural development of a new lightweight sports car. Just recently, both companies have officially confirmed that they will collaborate on a mid-size sports car. Other parts of the expanded agreement also include the development of a fuel cell system and research on lightweight technology. Both companies hope to complete these researches and developments by the year 2020 and with a prototype by 2015. If the research done on the lightweight technologies goes well, the new mid-size sports car might be the first to get such technology, which includes reinforced composite. The recent collaboration between Toyota and Subaru yielded the rear wheel driven Toyota 86/Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ. With this new collaboration with BMW, we might just see a new Supra and this new model will obviously be marketed above the 86/BRZ segment. As for BMW, they are busy with its electric i cars, the i3 all electric city car and the i8 sports coupe, which are slated to release in the near future. Toyota is well known for its hybrid and fuel cell technologies while BMW is known for being experts in sports cars development. And it is clear that both companies could benefit from each other

But it seems that Nissan has finally given the green light for the new car, the R36 GT-R, and has set a launch date for 2018. This new report would give the current R35 GT-R a ten year model lifespan and it ties in with the comments made by the R35
  23. When it comes to exotic sports and GT cars, many would say that the Italians make the best ones. But some would argue that the British are good at it too.
