2015 GT-R Nismo to sprint to 100km/h in two seconds flat?

We all know about the Nissan GT-R and its need for speed. Now the 'Godzilla' is all set to get wickedly faster with Nismo - the performance arm of Nissan - unveiling the GT-R Nismo. There have been no spy shots whatsoever, so the closest we could get are pictures of the GT-R Track Edition. The future Nismo version will be based on the 2014 GT-R and will feature a series of updates that will transform the 'Godzilla' into a real track machine, while keeping it perfectly suitable for the road. On the exterior, Nismo will work on improving the car's aerodynamics, so lower front and rear bumpers, wider wings and sill side skirts, plus a huge wing at the rear is to be expected. Inside the car, the GT-R Nismo will most likely get special suede-trimmed Nismo sports seats with red stitching, plus a redesigned steering wheel, pedals, gauges and gear knob. Under the hood, the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine delivers at least 20 horses more than the standard 550bhp. There have been rumours that the GT-R Nismo will hit 100km/h in two seconds. Wait a second. The current GT-R already does the century sprint in three. Wouldn't that mean that the GT-R Nismo will be able to outsprint a 1,200bhp Bugatti Veyron Super Sport over short distances? Well, as exciting as the GT-R Nismo is going to be, we're having a hard time accepting that it will be able to hit 100km/h in two seconds flat, at least on street tyres. What do you think? -
I believe owning a Lamborghini is surely a proud thing for pretty much everyone in the world. When you drive a car like the Aventador, for example, passers-by will most likely think that you're one hell of a successful person - besides the natural jealousy that follows after. It seems not everyone can contain their 'feelings' when they come across such successful people. The cyclist in the video is perhaps a good example. While the driver of the black Lamborghini Aventador is trying to pass the road, this cyclist simply stops right in front of the car. Even worse, the cyclist stares down on the owner and even scolds him. I can't seem to figure out if it's because the elderly cyclist thinks that others should respect him instead of him respecting others or that he thinks car drivers should always prioritise cyclists. Or, perhaps this cyclist just doesn't really like cars after all, which is why he is riding a bicycle in the first place?

Terminally-ill girl granted wish to ride in a hot pink bull

We came across a video recently, showing how Emilia Palmer, an eight-year old from Kimbolton, Herefordshire in England's West Midlands, got her wish to get a ride in a pink Lamborghini fulfilled. Emilia suffers from a rare lung illness, requiring her to constantly be on oxygen. She made a request through Rays of Sunshine, which is like the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and within days of receiving Emilia's wish, they found someone willing to donate a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster. The owner also allowed the charity to get super car resprayed in an eye-searing, matte pink. The hot pink bull was piloted none other than Top Gear's very own Richard Hammond, who dropped by at Emilia's home for a surprise. Let me get one thing straight. Personally I am not a fan of McLaren. I have nothing against the team, its Formula One drivers or the firm's awkward behaviour of naming its cars after fax machines. It's just like Manchester United vs Liverpool or Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer or Tiger Woods vs well whoever he competes with. However there are one or two things I admire about McLaren. Firstly, its futuristic, yin-yang inspired factory at Woking, U.K. Secondly, the automaker's approach to cars and the firm's obsession with implementing technology. I have mentioned a countless number of times in the blog, as much as I like cars and the science, art and engineering behind it - I like technology, gadgets and gizmos. As such I cannot think of any other automaker in this era (perhaps besides Audi) that harnesses science, technology and cars as well as McLaren. Ferrari is a front to sell road legal Formula One cars to fund their F1 programme while Lamborghini is a German engineered Italian on steroids and performance enhancing drugs. Pagani is a new kid on the block that is all about theatricality, flamboyance and art. McLaren celebrated - with pride - their 50th anniversary as a racing team. 50 years is a long time, but the British firm has only created five road going cars thus far, and all five have been blockbusters in their own right. We have the iconic and legendary McLaren F1, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the MP4-12 and 12C and now we have the long awaited and alien looking McLaren 'Designed by Air' P1. The McLaren P1, together with the Porsche 918 and LaFerrari, welcome the next generation of hypercars and motoring in general. They are from three different countries in one continent but they share a similarity - they are all hybrids. Unlike its predecessors, the McLaren F1, Porsche Carrera GT and Enzo Ferrari, they are not purely naturally aspirated. Each feature an electric motor of some sort to boost performance to an already capable internal combustion engine. http://dai.ly/x14g7to In the case of the P1, the futuristic looking vehicle is unlike anything I have ever seen. The aesthetics have time travelled 10-15 years from the future, combined with the technical limitations of today. It is powered by a substantially revised 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, coupled to a single electric motor, for a combined power output of 903bhp. Top speed is electronically limited to 350km/h, with the 0-100km/h standing start acceleration taking less than three seconds. The McLaren P1 will power from rest to 200km/h in less than seven seconds, and on to 300km/h in less than 17 seconds - a full five seconds quicker than the McLaren F1. Despite this, the P1 is also efficient with CO2 emissions less than 200g/km, and the ability to cover more than 10km in emissions free electric mode. Undergoing the final stages of testing before commencing on first customer deliveries soon, fellow self-confessed automotive and collector, Jay Leno, became the first man outside the development team at Woking, and Jenson Button, to drive the McLaren P1. The 12 minute video is pretty much split into two sections, a tour of the McLaren engineering centre that looks nothing short of a cathedral while the second part is Leno thrashing the all new hypercar on what I think is the Top Gear test track - who was gleaming with excitement every single minute of course. As mentioned at the start, I am not a fan of McLaren, but does that mean I should not be jealous? -
"What is the best car you've driven so far?" I always get asked this question whenever I am engaged in a conversation with my relatives or friends. Well, as a rookie in the industry, I haven't had the chance to try as many as other seniors have. My age notwithstanding. But what I can say for sure is that I don't have an absolute answer to the question but if you're interested, here is my two cents' worth. Firstly, every single car out there has its pros and cons, and in my dictionary, there is only near perfect. Same goes for us humans. And then it boils down to the personal preference about a car. You may love a Toyota 86 to bits, however, your other half may not like it because of the frequent 'get out to let others in' courtesy. Last but not least, on this hot and sunny island of ours, every single thing is helluva expensive. No, hold a second. Buying a car here is helluva expensive - if it ain't for the price, I may have gotten a wee bit nearer to having answered the question. Cars aside, one vehicle that I actually enjoy driving is a Suzuki Every. It is such an honest vehicle; it is just what it is - a van. Yes, the driveability may be like crap and powering it is only a mere 659cc engine but, seriously, who cares about the performance when all you need is a vehicle that allows you to get from point A to point B in a fuss-free manner? Heading to IKEA? No problem too, this 'kei' car can haul your furniture as easy as 1, 2, 3. Best of all, its compact size allows you to access cramped places easily, which is really common on this tiny red dot we call home. So what's the best car I've driven thus far again?

Point a kid or teenager to the Chevrolet Camaro and they will probably just scream "Bumblebee!" Thanks to GM's association with the billion dollar Transformers trilogy (S$3.38 Billion in box office receipts to be exact), the retro Beetle was replaced with the fifth generation Camaro concept, and modified versions of it appeared in the sequels - much to the hatred of hardcore Transformers fans. But hey at least the sfx was awesome. The Camaro was envisioned as a competitor to the legendary Ford Mustang. But compared to the American stallion, the bowtie did not fare well in sales or recognition as a muscle car in its first year. Production commenced in September 1966, and the Camaro survived four generations until the model went out of production in 2002. After eight years of hibernation, the Camaro name was revived with the fifth generation (or post Transformers generation) armed with a new design and platform. I have to admit after years of viewing the mustangs, corvettes and challengers - it was refreshing to see the sharp and striking looking Camaro. Not to mention the larger than life heroic portrayal in the live-action Transformers trilogy aided the nameplate, especially with the younger audience. I am no expert in muscle cars, but if there is anyone out there who knows his muscle cars more than anyone else - it could be is none other than the self-confessed auto nut, Jay Leno. With 197bhp, 300Nm of torque and a top speed of 234km/h, a high performance version of the new 1.6-litre SIDI turbo engine will globally premiere in a Vauxhall Cascada at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The engine is one of the newly-designed Vauxhall four-cylinder SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) units and will join the existing 167bhp 1.6-litre SIDI turbo, available from its launch. The new power unit delivers 11 percent more power, including 300Nm maximum torque with overboost - 70Nm more than the comparable 1.6-litre turbo predecessor. At the heart of the SIDI turbo is a new engine block that can withstand a maximum combustion pressure of up to 130 bar in the cylinder. The block is made of grey cast iron with an aluminium baseplate. A different type of piston was also developed on top of a reduced compression ratio. The Shibetsu Proving Ground (SPG) in Japan is the birthplace of the original Lexus LS 400 and has been the top secret test track for new Lexus models. Recently, Lexus offered an inside look at it. The SPG opened in 1984 after six years of planning and building. Rumour has it that the scale of the construction was so large, the Soviets mistook it for a fort being created by the Japanese. Imagine the Soviets mobilising their troops..right.. Hidden behind heavy security and tall metal fences are five circuits, each varying in size and function. The longest of these is about 10 kilometres. The tracks are surrounded with tiny villages of buildings and facilities, used to assess and maintain all kinds of vehicles, ranging from production cars to highly confidential prototype models. A high speed circuit on home soil didn't take long to bear fruit for Lexus. Firstly, the SPG helped reduce costs. It also sped up the research and development process, with the majority of testing now done in-house. When it came to the LS 400, the proving ground's biggest contribution was helping to forge superb aerodynamics and an exceptionally quiet cabin environment. More impressively, the engineers could analyse and perfect the vehicle's acceleration, movement and noise at speeds as fast as 250km/h - impossible on the shorter domestic courses previously used by Lexus. The four other circuits at Shibetsu also have their own special features - such as tree-lined country roads - to help put vehicles through their paces. To examine the effects of certain road conditions on Lexus vehicles, more than 20 road surfaces unique to different regions and countries around the world, such as the German autobahns, have been duplicated and installed on several sections of the courses at Shibetsu. We wonder if there's a mini Nurburgring in the SPG? Well all in all, SPG brims over with everything the Lexus automobile engineer - they call them takumi - needs to hone the vehicles. Is this Area 51 for Lexus? Or perhaps they have another Area 52 somewhere else? The high performance Mercedes flagship sedan is powered by a direct-injected, twin-turbocharged 5.5-litres V8 engine which delivers 585 bhp and 900Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT sports transmission with three selections, namely "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual). Both the SWB and LWB S 63 AMG take only 4.4 seconds to reach 100km/h from standstill. The AWD 4MATIC model even manages to shave off 0.4 seconds from the century sprint performance. All models have an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The new S 63 AMG is up to 100kg lighter than its predecessor due to several weight saving measures. These include the usage of light alloy rims, aluminum construction for the roof and front panels, usage of carbon fibre for the spare wheel recess, among others. The lithium-ion battery itself already contributed to 20kg of weight savings. The S 63 AMG is equipped with Mercedes' AIRMATIC suspension which offers continuous damping adjustment. This enables the performance sedan to adjust better to driving styles and road conditions. The suspension offers two settings, namely "Comfort" and "Sport". A torque vectoring system helps to improve handling. High performance AMG ceramic composite brake, which weighs 20 percent lighter than stock ones, is on the option list.

The 2013 Skoda Octavia RS will be making its debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed. But before that, the Czech automaker has released the first official video featuring the RS in sedan and Combi body styles. On the exterior, the Octavia RS has subtle styling cues that distinguish it from the regular model. These include a blackened grille, honeycomb air intake, dual chromed exhaust pipes, red brake calipers and a rear spoiler for the sedan. The new generation Octavia RS is available with either a 2.0-litres TSI petrol engine producing 220 bhp or a 2.0-litres TDI delivering 184 bhp. Both engines are available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG dual clutch transmission. The petrol/manual combination sprints from standstill to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds while the TDI/manual version takes 8.1 seconds to do so. Sports Chassis is standard equipment on the RS, which makes the car sit 15mm lower than the standard Octavia. Electronic XDS differential lock is also a standard feature, which is part of the ESC electronic stabilisation programme. The XDS system improves wheel traction and reduces understeering during fast cornering.

Ferrari 458 Italia kills man and crashes into another car!

Not so long ago, I tried to remind you to keep away from a country such as Russia. Thing is, the people - well mostly - seem really reckless there, especially while driving. It isn't that hard at all to find videos to prove this theory. Now, another incident - a tragic one too - has taken place in which I believe quite a number of people wonder how the country actually functions. While it may seem just like another car crash, this one is a lot more awful. In the video, we can see a Ferrari 458 Italia rear ending a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Judging from the fact that the rear bumper of the Mercedes was entirely ripped apart, I believe you have a good idea regarding the speed the Ferrari driver must have been driving at the moment. Amazingly, though, neither the Ferrari driver nor the Mercedes driver got seriously hurt. Yet, what was really tragic was the fact that the Italian supercar had actually knocked over a pedestrian, Nariman Gaynulov, 62, before crashing into the said Mercedes. As it turned out, the man driving the Ferrari 458 Italia is Larion Vuokila, 23, son of Alexander Zajonc, a Russian billionaire. Despite not getting seriously hurt, Vuokila was taken to the hospital soon after the incident. However, he tried to escape but has now been arrested by the police. I am not really sure what actually happened to Vuokila seconds before the crash. Was it that he tried to beat the red light? Or, was the crash triggered by Vuokila losing control of his supercar? BMW has launched the M5 Nighthawk special edition specifically for the Japan market. Only 10 units will be built. On the outside, the Nighthawk is painted in 'Frozen Black'. The 20-inch alloy wheels, grille, door handles, mirror caps and exhaust tips are finished in dark chrome. I believe this is a car that The Dark Knight (Batman) would love to drive. The leather seats and door panels and dashboard are tastefully finished with a bright Sakiru orange shade. One can also find the usual M Performance carbon trimmings in the cabin. The M5 Nighthawk is equipped with the Competition Package which boosts the output of the 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 from 552bhp to 567bhp. Mated to a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission, the high-performance sedan storms from standstill to 100km/h in a mere 4.2 seconds. The package also includes new coil springs, damper calibrations and anti-sway bars. These adjustments resulted in lowering of the car by about 10 millimetres, which lowers the center of gravity and body roll. The new M5 special edition model is priced at 18,200,000 Yen (S$229,283) in Japan.

Here's one piece of advice I'm sharing with you again, if you own a convertible with a soft top, please refrain from parking it somewhere without any surveillance. Well, it's for your own safety. You see, you might end up being one unfortunate owner whose car roof got slashed. Yes, it happened! The Audi R8 GT Spyder you are about to see in the video no longer has its proper soft top as it used to. It seems that maybe, someone envies the owner of the car for being able to afford such an expensive car while he/she can't. However, it was very unfortunate for the owner as the Audi R8 GT Spyder is the most exclusive R8 in store, there're only 333 examples of it, you know. With that being said, whoever is capable of affording such a car must have an exclusive sense of joy and pride. With the roof slashed now, it seems that there'll no longer be such a sense, or will there? Well, the owner of the car takes things easy, it seems. To fix the slashed roof of his super car, the owner simply counts on tapes and a plastic garbage bag! It seems that all that matters to the owner is that water won't pour into the car when it rains. -

The annual CATS Classified Car-nival took place at the Singapore Expo on 7th July. The event showcased both new and pre-owned cars, car-related accessories and other services. In addition, there was a Race Queen Pageant, games and what's a carnival without free goodies! While I was at the event, happily snapping away photos, I indulged in a packet of Oregon Fresh potato chips and a can of Orchard Fresh Grape Float that were distributed freely. The Motor Sports Association (MSA) was delighted to welcome more than 2,500 visitors to the inaugural Go Motorsport Live! at Silverstone, and can confirm the event will return in 2014. Staged at Silverstone last Sunday, Go Motorsport Live! was created to demonstrate just how easy it can be for people to get involved in motor sport. Visitors from all over the country attended the free six-hour show featuring a wide range of over 50 displays from motor clubs, teams, championships, manufacturers and other organisations. Most areas of the sport were represented from circuit racing and karting to drag racing and rallying, among others. Exhibitors reported excellent interest and engagement from the attendees. For example, one Oxford Motor Club staged an AutoSolo to showcase this entry-level discipline's huge appeal and more than 500 free passenger rides were provided during the day in a selection of unmodified road cars. Jaguar C-X75's twincharged 1.6-litre engine may enter production

Although the Jaguar C-X75 did not receive the green light for production, its twincharged 1.6-litre engine is still being developed and could make it to production. The power plant, developed by Cosworth, is conceived initially as an F1 engine. On the adaptation of the engine for a road-going model, Cosworth's principal engineer, Andy Ball, said, "We've being doing development engines. We're still partnering on this. Italian firm Icona will make its U.K. debut at Salon Prive

Here is a new supercar maker to take note of - Icona from Italy. Well they are not exactly new, having been around since 2010, with the launch of the electric concept car - the Fuselage. The Fuselage was a finalist at the 27th Festival Automobile International in Paris in the World's Most Beautiful Concept Car competition. The Italian firm was founded by Italian members and is led by an Italian director. The headquarters for the automaker is in Shanghai while the car is made in Italy. Icona has recently developed their second car - the pretty wicked looking Vulcano - which will make its U.K. debut in September at Salon Prive. The Vulcano coupe seats two and was unveiled in Shanghai earlier this year. The one-off is powered by a V12 Hybrid reaching up to 950bhp, capable of a top speed of 350km/h and a quick century sprint timing of nine seconds. The Vulcano was engineered by world famous former Scuderia Ferrari technical director Claudio Lombardi.
